Opis:
The scientific information computer system at the library of the Technical University of Gdansk is presented. The system includes: computer system for catalogue information and publication supply, APIS-ZB; information system on scientific research at the Technical University of Gdansk, APIS-NB; and network system for provision of databases on CD-ROM InfoWare, CD/HD. The basic system functions, as well as the prospects of their development are presented. The problem of using the Internet as an information source and supply tool is discussed. Common tasks of libraries at technical universities in Poland which would facilitate scientific information transfer between them, are stressed.

Opis:
The article is the outcome of the author’s stay at the Polish Library in Paris in 2000 for the purpose of examining collections of paper-based objects and the state of their preservation. The Library gathers works by Polish authors connected with France as well as those by artists originating from the French, English or Italian schools. The article discusses assorted factors affecting changes of the physical and chemical properties of paper. The rate of those transformations depends on external and internal factors. Further on, the author considered ways of minimalising the impact of those factors by means of suitable conditions of storing the collections. Another topic, alongside prophylaxis, was conservation intent upon restoring the “original appearance” of paper-based collections.

Opis:
Collegiate book collections from the Old Polish period – and the presented one belongs to them – are quite poorly described. In the case of Kurzelów we are in a rather good situation, since a fragment of the list of books that belonged to the collection in 1765 has been preserved. The inventory consists of 45 items, some of which contain a few books bound together. It seems that the discussed set of authors and works is typical, as far as the circle of collegiate and parish clergy is concerned. Taking this into consideration, it is proper to ask the question if the books were used by the local clergy in their pastoral work, and in the education process in the Kurzelów Collegiate school. Although an attempt to answer the question is hypothetical in its character, it still allows one to form a view of the level of teaching in the local school and of the intellectual formation of the Kurzelów clergy that did not differ much from other, similar centers of intellectual life of the Old Polish epoch.

W artykule opisano rodzaje ozdób stosowanych na mapach ziem polskich począwszy od drugiej połowy XV wieku, zwracając szczególną uwagę na kartusze. Dokonano próby ich klasyfikacji zarówno pod względem budowy i charakteru ornamentów jak i spełnianej funkcji.
Cognitive and practical roles of maps have always been accompanied by the need to make them esthe-tically attractive. Originally pictures filled unchartered territories, substituting or complementing map's contents. With the development of geographic knowledge and growing density of contents, ornaments moved to the descriptive section, adding to its esthetic value and often acting as an extra source of information. Ornaments evolved with the development of art in particular periods, following tendencies and fashions of the time. Evolution of the art of ornamentation can be observed on the example of cartouches, which are most typical of ornaments. Cartouches can be grouped according to the main type of ornamentation they contain, their main motif. They can be: brass, floral, zoomorphic, anthropomorphic (with mythological characters, figures of saints, allegorical and historical scenes, portraits) with military, architectural and heraldic motifs. In the main field of a cartouche there was usually a map title, the name of the author or addressee, the date and place of publication, scale and additional text. Therefore we can recognize the following types of cartouches: title, legend, dedicational, scale, commentary and mixed. Sometimes the function of cartouche was performed by other ornamental elements, most commonly in the form of drapes, stone boards or obelisks. Some maps were surrounded by an ornamental frame, which might contain panoramas of cities, visages of people in regional outfits, portraits, historical and mythological scenes and floral motifs. In contemporary research on historic cartography ornamentation is perceived not only as a decorative element. It constitutes a major map identification factor - it helps to distinguish particular editions and printings, helps to establish dates and edition sequence. Elaborate ornamentation disappeared from cartography in the early XlXth century, when practical function of maps, drawn according to increasingly precise measurements began to dominate the decorative function. Gradually the role of the main decorative element of maps was taken over by the elaborate lettering used for non-cartographic contents.

„Wahazar” Publishers from 1992 issues in Russian translation „Collection of the Polish Literature” and from 2003 - bilingual „Polish-Russian Poetic Library”. These series (as well as „Collection of the Serbian Literature” and „Serbian-Russian Poetic Library”) form integral part of the Slavonic library, which’s aim is to make united information-field and to resist primitivization of the whole-Slavonic cultural space. Research, artistic and enlightening activity of the Publishers is the element of constructive alternative in the epoch of aggressive chaotization of the world, serves for communication upon new-arisen prohibitions. Productive existence of this publishing utopia shows, on a level with large number of other facts, that in spite of onset of dehumanizing globalization, in spite of guided devaluation of culture texts - nowadays increases the tendency to form open community of Slavonic (and wider - East-European) cultures, which is not subjected to ethnic patterns, ideomyths, negative inertia. New times could become the stage of really friendly contacts between the peoples - without pauses, conceals and distortions, the stage of continually coming news about things which are important and lasting, not artificially played up, marginal and ephemeral, about those true things which can help to consolidation - not frittering away.

The present study contributes to the extensive research carried out on the mediaeval musical culture in Poland, particularly in the Pomeranian Region. This paper is not only a monographic elaboration on Ms. Mar. F 405 code. Additionally, it attempts to determine its position against a background of various other kinds of Polish and European liturgical and musical tradition. The antiphonary contains both de tempore and de sanctis breviary chants, including commune sanctorum compositions. It is certainly a second part of a two-volume antiphonary (the first part containing Advent, Christmas and Lent is unknown), as it begins with Vespers from the office of the Lord’s Resurrection’s Sunday. The code is not complete. The fact that a lot of pages are missing, including the colophon, makes it impossible to read some offices and hinders to determine the time and place of the antiphonary’s origin. The book is bound in oak panels coated with skin. There are some other characteristic features noticeable in the book’s construction, for example some practical devices in the form of metal corners and bars, a separate spot serving to fasten the book to a stand and a lack of stamps which were first used in the 15th century. These qualities indicate the 14th century as the time of the book’s origin. The code was written in Gothic minuscule commonly used in the middle ages (called also a texture) on parchment folios (having some features of the northern parchment: “charta theutonica”). The ornamentation of the code is rather simple and strictly related with the divine office (liturgy of the hours). Liturgical chanting was recorded in a rhombic notation, called Gothic, which is monophonic, generally typical of the diocesan chorale. The comparison of Ms. Mar. F. 405 with the Teutonic codes (F1, L6 and L10) and the diocesan antiphonary from Bamberg (the 12th century) makes it possible to ascertain their repertoire similarity. In the musical layer, the code is not a monolith, however its tonal profile fits within the diocesan practice much better than within the monastic tradition. It is possible to notice the impact of the latter practice mainly in the chants of the 4th and 7th tone. Undoubtedly, it is evidence of the mediaeval practice of an intermingling of different kinds of liturgical and musical tradition. The place of the manuscript’s origin remains an open question. The script might have been created both in Gdańsk, and outside the city’s borders. Numerous arguments associated with this matter indicate mediaeval Toruń, as it was at that time an energetic center of culture and craftsmanship. The Ms. Mar. F 405 was written six hundred years ago and it seems that at this point we have to make do with mere suppositions.

The paper presents proposition of regular expressions engine based on the modified Thompson’s algorithm dedicated to the Polish language processing. The Polish inflectional dictionary has been used for enhancing regular expressions engine and syntax. Instead of using characters as a basic element of regular expressions patterns (as it takes place in BRE or ERE standards) presented tool gives possibility of using words from a natural language or labels describing words grammar properties in regex syntax.
W artykule zaprezentowano propozycje mechanizmu wyrażeń regularnych w oparciu o zmodyfikowany algorytm Thompsona dostosowany do przetwarzania tekstów w języku polskim. Prezentowane wyrażenia regularne wykorzystują słownik fleksyjny języka polskiego i pozwalają na budowę wzorców, w których elementami podstawowymi są wyrazy języka polskiego lub etykiety gramatyczne, a nie znaki (jak to ma miejsce w klasycznych wyrażeniach regularnych standardu BRE czy ERE).

Strängnäs Cathedral, located in an old town 80 km from Stockholm, houses a rich 17th cen-tury library. In the collection are mainly spoils of the Thirty Years’ War, including Polonica. Altogether, the library stocks 2000 volumes comprising 4000 titles, most of which are writ-ten in Latin and German. In addition to theological dissertations and Bible translations are books on such subjects as law, history, philosophy, medicine, mathematics and grammar. The Polish collection, which was brought over mainly from Olomouc, is relatively small, but early and not known well. On the author’s initiative, it is now being studied within the auspi-ces of the project “Polonica in the Cathedral Library in Strängnäs”.
