Koncentrują się szczególnie na zamieszczonym w tych kanałach dorobku z pedagogiki międzykulturowej w języku polskim. Przedstawiają wyniki analizy ich zawartości oraz propozycje dotyczące upowszechniania polskojęzycznego dorobku pedagogów międzykulturowych.
The article presents the circumstances of disseminating scientific achievements in the Internet on the basis of open access. The authors present the channels of disseminating the scientific output, such as Google Scholar search engine and social networking service for scientists and researchers Academia. edu and ResearchGate.net. The authors’ attention is particularly focused on the achievements of intercultural pedagogy in the Polish language included in these channels. They present the results of the analysis of the content of these social networking services and suggestions for the dissemination of the Polish achievements of intercultural educators.

Tematem artykułu jest sytuacja kursów języka i literatury polskiej na uniwersytetach w Ameryce Połnocnej. Zmniejszająca się liczba studentów zainteresowanych zajęciami z kultury polskiej, będąca wynikiem wielu czynników, prowadzi do ograniczania kursów. Sytuacji nie pomaga łączenie wydziałów slawistycznych z germanistycznymi. W ostatnich latach wzrasta natomiast zainteresowanie tematyką polsko-żydowską, co może pomóc w rozwinięciu np. lektoratów językowych nie tylko jako kursów skierowanych do odbiorców poszukujących tożsamościowych wartości języka, ale także polszczyzny jako języka świadectw Zagłady Żydów.
This article discusses the current situation of courses in Polish language and literature at North American universities. Diminishing interest in Polish culture, caused by a variety of factors, has resulted in limited offerings of courses on this subject. The common fusion of Slavic and German Departments in North America does not help to reverse this trend. In current years, however, there has been a growing interest in Polish-Jewish themes. This, in turn, might lead to a renewed interest in Polish courses; for instance, the Polish language can be taught not simply with heritage students in mind but also as an important language for reading Holocaust testimonies.

Opis:

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań, które zostały przeprowadzone w 2017 r. Ich celem było określenie pozycji języka polskiego jako przedmiotu wśród uczniów szkół podstawowych i średnich. Wyniki badań nie zaskakują, ale też budzą duży niepokój brakiem zainteresowania uczniów językiem i literaturą ojczystą. Uczniowie nie uznają języka polskiego za przedmiot ważny i rozwijający ich osobowość. Niska świadomość treści przedmiotowych każe zastanowić się, czy rzeczywiście uznają potrzebę ich poznawania i przywiązują do nich wagę. Może to dziwić tym bardziej, że język polski jest przedmiotem maturalnym. Możliwości pozytywnych zmian przeciwdziałających istniejącej sytuacji autorka upatruje w szeroko zakrojonych i kompleksowych badaniach uczniów, ich rozwoju, potrzeb i zainteresowań. Wyniki tych badań powinny stanowić podstawę wszelkich zmian i reform.
The article presents results of the research conducted in 2017. It aimed at estimating how important for students of primary and secondary schools are Polish language lessons, in comparison to other subjects. The results are not surprising, however, they evoke a serious concern, since the students present lack of interest in their native language and literature. They do not perceive Polish language classes as important, nor do they reckon that these classes have any impact on their personal development. Poor knowledge of the material discussed in class raises a question if students feel that they should learn it at all, or how important it is to them. It may surprise even more, since the Polish language is also one of the subjects at the Matura exam. The author sees a chance to positively counteract the current situation in broad and comprehensive researches concerning the students, their development, needs and interests. The results of such research should be treated as a base for all the changes and reforms.

Opis:

The article entitled Self-study in Polish language teaching in view of challenges related to school reform and the opinions of eighth graders concerns the issue of self-education and the issues that emerged after the school reform introduced in September 2017. Particular attention was paid to the difficulties faced by teachers in the field of theoretical and practical preparation of students for the process of independent learning. The following were analysed in detail: a) the areas (both general and specific) noted in the compulsory educational documents; b) survey statements from 126 eighth grade students. The assumption was made that respondents have for a year followed the guidelines of The new general education curriculum for primary school, while they will, in June 2019, be the first graduates (taking the eighth-grade examination) of an eight-year primary school. The material acquired allows an assessment of the state of self education in Polish language teaching a year after the introduction of educational reform.

Artykuł jest poświęcony konfrontacji wczesnych prac Z. Klemensiewicza (głównie Składnia opisowa współczesnej polszczyzny kulturalnej, 1937) i N. Chomskiego (głównie Syntactic Structures, 1957). Autorzy tych dzieł wywodzą się z różnych nurtów lingwistycznych – pierwszy z lingwistyki strukturalnej, drugi z lingwistyki generatywnej. Mimo to w ich ideach da się zauważyć istotne zbieżności. Chociaż nie ma podstaw, by uważać dzieła Klemensiewicza za bezpośrednią inspirację dla Chomskiego, wygląda jednak na całkiem uzasadnione twierdzenie, że różne szkoły myśli lingwistycznej nieraz były dosłownie o krok od zapoczątkowania paradygmatu generatywnego.
The article focuses on the early works of Z. Klemensiewicz (mostly Składnia opisowa współczesnej polszczyzny kulturalnej, 1937), and N. Chomsky (mainly Syntactic Structures, 1957). These authors come from different linguistic paradigms: structural linguistics, and generative linguistics, respectively. Despite that, their ideas have strong similarities, and although there is no reason to consider Klemensiewicz’s work as a direct inspiration for Chomsky, it seems quite reasonable to argue that different schools of linguistic thought were at times literally one step away from pioneering the generative paradigm.

This article presents two publications in the area of Polish stylistics, which are considered representative of this field of study and embracing the latest developmental tendencies: Przewodnik po stylistyce polskiej [A Guide to Polish Stylistics, 1995, ed. Stanisław Gajda], and Przewodnik po stylistyce polskiej. Style współczesnej polszczyzny [A Guide to Polish Stylistics. Styles in the Contemporary Polish Language, 2013, ed. Ewa Malinowska, Jolanta Nocoń and Urszula Żydek-Bednarczuk]. This works shows the development and the specific features of the Polish language stylistic research, as well as the most important qualities of the aforementioned publications. In the final part of their article, the Authors make an attempt to shed light on the phenomena, problems and directions presented in both publications in the perspective of the German language linguistics studies.
Dwa polonistyczne ‚cicerone‘ po stylistyce polskiej: Kilka uwag z perspektywy germanistycznej Artykuł przedstawia dwie publikacje z zakresu stylistyki polonistycznej, uznane za reprezentatywne dla tej dziedziny i prezentujące jej najważniejsze tendencje rozwojowe: Przewodnik po stylistyce polskiej (1995, red. Stanisław Gajda) i Przewodnik po stylistyce polskiej. Style współczesnej polszczyzny (2013, red. Ewa Malinowska, Jolanta Nocoń / Urszula Żydek-Bednarczuk). Praca ukazuje rozwój oraz specyfikę polonistycznych badań nad stylem, zaprezentowano także najważniejsze cechy charakterystyczne wymienionych publikacji. W ostatniej części tekstu autorki podejmują próbę naświetlenia z perspektywy germanistycznej zjawisk, problemów oraz kierunków rozwoju dyscypliny dyskutowanych w artykułach obu tomów.

My statement is about different concepts of Polish language and literature, which stem from official educational documents and from discussions between experts in the field. My analysis Szkolna polonistyka w poszukiwaniu modelu wiedzy przedmiotowej [27] focuses mostly on the last three education reforms (core curricula from 1999, 2008 and 2017) and points out a very apparent change in the proposed positioning of a student against knowledge (from subject orientation in 1999 to indisputable dominance of subject focus in the last core curriculum).

Artykuł zawiera komentowany przegląd wydanych w Polsce podręczników, samouczków i gramatyk do nauki języka staro-cerkiewno-słowiańskiego oraz opracowań leksykograficznych, stanowiących dowód refleksji naukowej nad językiem oraz kulturą kręgu Slavia Orthodoxa. W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiono prace wykorzystywane w praktyce dydaktycznej szkół wyższych, szczegółowo omawiając niemal wszystkie pozycje wydane od początku XX w. – niezależnie od ich aktualnej dostępności i popularności. W drugiej części opisano kilkanaście publikacji słownikowych, leksykograficznych i leksykograficzno-encyklopedycznych. Analizie poddano różnorakie metodologie oraz dobór tekstów (np. teksty liturgiczne, teksty wybranych zabytków języka scs) i zjawisk źródłowych (obyczaje, rytuały itd.), stanowiących podstawę słowników, jak również specyfikę konstrukcji haseł i komentarz autorów poszczególnych edycji. Aneks artykułu stanowi wykaz bibliograficzny niemal 50 tytułów. Из творческой лаборатории палеослависта-переводчика: польскоязычные научные пособия и лексикографические работы Статья содержит комментированный обзор изданных в Польше учебников, самоучителей и грамматик для изучения старо-церковно-славянского языка, а также лексикографических работ, иллюстрирующих научный интерес к языку и культуре сферы Slavia Orthodoxa. В первой части статьи представлены публикации, используемые в дидактической деятельности высших учебных заведений, с подробным комментарием практически всех позиций, изданных с начала XX в. – независимо от их актуальной доступности и популярности. Во второй части описано несколько словарных, лексикографических и лексикографическо-энциклопедических публикаций. Проанализированы различные методологические подходы, способ выбора текстов (напр., литургические тексты, тексты избранных памятников старославянского языка) и культурных феноменов (обычаи, ритуалы и пр.), которые легли в основу словарей, а также специфика конструкции словарных статей и комментарий авторов конкретных изданий. В приложении к статье приводится библиографический список около 50 заглавий.
The paper presents a commented review of published in Poland textbooks, self-study books of Old-Church-Slavonic and lexicographical studies, being an evidence of scientific reflection on language and culture of the Slavia Orthodoxa area. In the first part of the paper, there are presented studies (mainly textbooks) used in practice of teaching process in universities; neverthless of their current availability and popularity, almost all of the titles edited from the beginning of the 20th cent., are described. The second part is devoted to a detailed description of dictionaries, lexicographical studies, and various kinds of encyclopaedias. Different methodological approach, selection of source texts (liturgical ones, particular codices etc.) and cultural phenomena (customs, rituals etc.), being the data base for the studies, as well as specificity of entries’ construction and their authors’ commentary are presented and analyzed. The appendix is a register/list of almost 50 titles of translatory aids of both mentioned above groups.

The introduction of compulsory teaching of a foreign language in the early years of education is the most important development in recent accounts of foreign language teaching. This paper discusses the issue of using the term norma językowa (a language standard) in the Polish prescriptive literature of the fi rst half of the 20th century. It shows how this terms was developed and how the concept behind it had been called before this name was fi rst used. It also points to the terms naming the groups of language users referred to by the language enthusiasts of those days, originally as recipients of warnings against language errors, and then as those who should propagate language culture. Hence, terms such as warstwy wykształcone (the educated class), inteligencja (the intelligentsia), osoby posługujące się polszczyzną literacką (people using literary Polish) are discussed. Finally, the criteria for evaluating the linguistic elements (the usage, language of writers, tradition) applied at that time are indicated.

Celem niniejszego tekstu jest próba rekonstrukcji statusu, rangi i roli przedmiotów realizujących treści z zakresu językoznawstwa polonistycznego (wiedza o języku, kultura języka polskiego, pragmatyka językowa itp.) w kształceniu uniwersyteckim, ale poza filologią polską. Ogląd badawczy obejmował dwa obszary: dokumenty (wybrane karty przedmiotów) oraz reprezentacje społeczne wskazanych przedmiotów w obrębie dwóch głównych uczestników procesu uczenia się: studentów i wykładowców. Wnioski pokazują, że zajęcia rozwijające kompetencję komunikacyjną i pragmatyczną są oczekiwane w programach studiów, ale powinny być sfunkcjonalizowane, ściśle ukierunkowane pod kątem zawodowym i metodycznie interesujące.
The purpose of the present paper is to reconstruct the status, rank and role of the subjects implementing the content related to Polish linguistics (language studies, Polish culture of language, linguistic pragmatics) in university education, but outside Polish philology. The research review covered two areas: documents (selected syllabuses) and social representations (conceptualizations, opinions, impressions, expectations) of the indicated subjects within the two main participants in the learning process: students and lecturers. The conclusions show that classes developing communicative and pragmatic competence are expected in the study programmes but should be functionalised, professionally focused and methodically interesting.

The article presents the history of Polish language, literature and culture studies at University ‘Paisyi Hilendarski’ in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The beginnings of Slavic Studies at University of Plovdiv date back to 1978. In 1991 the separate profile of Polish Philology was formed. Nowadays the majority of the faculty are members of the Department of General Slavic Linguistics and the History of the Bulgarian Language.

Dzięki rozkwitowi studiów polonistycznych na terenie Chin przyjeżdża nad Wisłę coraz większa grupa chińskiej młodzieży akademickiej, która kształci się na specjalistę od polepszania relacji obu krajów. Niniejsze badania zrealizowane metodą wywiadu stanowią próbę wstępnego zapoznania się z opiniami młodych polonistów Chińczyków o języku i kulturze, których uczyli się podczas swojego pobytu w sercu Europy.
Chinese project “One Belt One Road” has strengthened the cooperation between China and Poland, which in recent years has aroused considerable interest in Polish language and culture among Chinese universities. Thanks to dynamic development of Polish Studies in China, more and more Chinese academic young people come to Poland to be cultivated into experts in improving relationships between both countries. This research, which was conducted by the method of interview, attempts to show how Chinese young students of Polish Studies regard the language and culture they learned during their stay at the heart of Europe.

Contemporary Contrastive Studies of Polish, Bulgarian and Russian Neologisms versus Language CorporaIn the field of Slavonic linguistics contrastive studies of neologisms occupy little place, the newest words are insufficiently described and classified. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the need for contrastive description of the newest lexis and checking exclusively one of many possibilities of obtaining Polish, Bulgarian and Russian neologisms. Language corpora, as this possibility is in question, are not the only source from which the author obtains her research material, yet a growing interest in corpora has inspired her to also use this method. The author wants to show the reader to what degree language corpora can help in building the thesaurus of Polish, Bulgarian and Russian neologisms. Making an attempt to confront a collection of neologisms of contemporary Polish, Bulgarian and Russian language, the author points out the need to standardize the description (identical for each of the analysed languages), which she intends to propose in another publications on neologisms in Polish, Bulgarian and Russian language. The application of contrastive method to three different but related languages from the Slavonic group will help, in her opinion, to discover more mechanisms of new words coming into existence and examine the newest derivative processes and their productivity.

Polish glottodidactics becomes one of the “tools” in the public diplomacy efforts made by the Polish government at various levels using various means. The cooperation and integration of Asian specialists in Polish studies raises the global prestige of the Polish language and develops polonophony.

Prescriptum zatytułowane Polonistyka nie tylko po polsku wyjaśnia genezę powstania wielojęzycznego numeru „Postscriptum Polonistycznego”, który wieńczy 30-lecie międzynarodowego charakteru czasopisma. 30 lat temu w piśmie – wtedy jeszcze będącym biuletynem Szkoły Języka i Kultury Polskiej Uniwersytetu Śląskiego – ukazał się pierwszy artykuł zagranicznej polonistki z Republiki Czeskiej, Haliny Klimszy. Niniejszy tekst bardzo krótko relacjonuje dzieje umiędzynarodowienia treściowego periodyku oraz etapy rozwoju, które doprowadziły do przekształcenia biuletynu w „pismo krajowych i zagranicznych polonistów” i do ostatnich decyzji redakcji o dopuszczeniu publikacji także w języku angielskim. Prescriptum stanowi objaśnienie motywacji stworzenia niniejszego numeru jako zbioru polonistycznych tekstów w językach ojczystych/pierwszych autorów-polonistów zagranicznych. Chcieliśmy i chcemy, by wiedza o interesujących zjawiskach i badaniach polskich i polonistycznych dotarła także do osób ciekawych świata, które w różnych krajach z powodu bariery językowej nie mogłyby jej nabyć. Pamiętamy też o młodym pokoleniu polonijnym, które nie zawsze już zna język przodków.
The Prescriptum entitled Polonistyka nie tyko po polsku [Polish Studies not only in Polish] explains the origin of the multilingual issue of “Postscriptum Polonistyczne” that crowns the 30th anniversary of the periodical as an international publication. It was thirty years ago, in fact, that the journal, back then still a newsletter of the School of Polish Language and Culture at the University of Silesia, featured the first article by a foreign Polish studies scholar, Halina Klimsza from the Czech Republic. This text provides a very brief historical account of how the periodical became internationalised, describing the stages of its development that led to the transformation from a newsletter to a “journal of Polish and foreign Polish studies scholars”, and reporting on the editors’ most recent decisions to accept papers for publication also in the English language. The Prescriptum explains the motivation for creating this issue as a collection of Polish studies texts in the native/first languages of the foreign Polish studies scholars who wrote them. We wanted and still want to make sure that knowledge about interesting phenomena and research from Poland and in the field of Polish studies can reach all those who are curious about the world and who would otherwise not be able to obtain such information in their respective countries due to the language barrier. Moreover, we keep in mind young members of the Polish diaspora, who do not always understand the language of their ancestors.

Tezą artykułu jest, że całość powinna być skorelowana z polskim i ukraińskim systemem szkolnictwa. W końcowej części autor przedstawia sugestie działań poprawiających funkcjonowania polonistyk.
The author discusses several aspects of Polish studies in Ukraine: problems of definition – which form of the education can be considered Polish studies, presence of Ukrainian Polish studies in the academic life in Poland and in the world, the quality of language education, practical training of the future teachers, coordination of the activities of various Polish centres. The article also presents the concept of the integration of Polish studies with Polish education in Ukraine. The thesis of the paper is that Polish language and cultural education should be correlated with the Polish and Ukrainian education systems and closely linked to the unified testing of student achievement. In the final part of the article the author discusses suggestions of actions to improve the functioning of Polish studies.

Mental and emotional verbs in semantic and syntactic descriptionThe main issue of this article concerns relations between the semantic plane of the sentence, which is presented by means of notions of predicate argument structure, and the plane of formal realisation of this structure. The existing attitudes to the studied verb classes are presented. Then rules governing the model of description used are specified (the article has been written within an elaborate scientific grant concerning Bulgarian, Polish and Russian). Obligatory semantic features of both classes are pointed out, followed by an elaboration on the scope of analysis of semantic and syntactic phenomena. This scope is determined by basic semantic sentence categories on which comparative, including contrastive, research is based. Drawing on examples of particular units studied, I then discuss the effectiveness of the analysis which enables comparing differences between sets of sentence structures allowable for each class studied. Those differences stem from semantic differences typical of those classes. Czasowniki mentalne i czasowniki emocji w opisie semantyczno-syntaktycznymTematyka artykułu dotyczy relacji między płaszczyzną semantyczną zdania, ujętą w terminach struktury predykatowo-argumentowej, a płaszczyzną realizacji formalnej tej struktury. Zarysowane zostały dotychczasowe podejścia do opisu badanych klas czasowników oraz sprecyzowano ustalenia dotyczące zastosowanego w artykule modelu opisu (artykuł powstał w związku z realizacją obszernego grantu dotyczącego języka bułgarskiego, polskiego i rosyjskiego). Wskazano obligatoryjne dla obu klas cechy semantyczne oraz scharakteryzowano zakres analizy zjawisk semantyczno-składniowych. Zakres ten wyznaczają podstawowe semantyczne kategorie zdaniowe, których badanie stanowi podstawę dla porównań, także porównań konfrontatywnych. Zaprezentowane zostały przykłady opracowania wybranych jednostek oraz wskazana skuteczność analizy, która pozwala ukazać różnice między zbiorami dopuszczalnych dla każdej z badanych klas struktur zdaniowych. Różnice te wynikają z charakteryzujących te klasy różnic semantycznych.

Professor Tadeusz Skulina (1929–1992) was born in Katowice but from the Second World War he was connected with Great Poland. Also in Poznań, he studied Polish Studies and following his graduation became employed at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań where he completed the consecutive stages of his scholarly career. As a disciple of Professor Władysław Kuraszkiewicz he conducted research on the Polish language of the Old-Polish era and of the 16th century. His doctoral thesis (1964) was devoted to historical phonetics and historical dialectology but soon he changed his scholarly interests and entered the field of Slavic studies, especially East-Slavic languages. In his habilitation thesis he discussed the question of the Old-Ruthenian anthroponymy. This thesis, published in 1973, was the first original, so extensive and detailed thesis about the Old-Ruthenian names. As we know, in the period following the receipt of his habilitation degree Professor Tadeusz Skulina had plans to prepare a monograph about Polish feminine onomastics. He had pursued this for years, however, unfortunately, never managed to prepare a synthesis. He only left an unfinished editorial draft of this book. Apart from research activities, Professor Skulina was involved in didactics and also performed responsible administrative functions at the Institute of Polish Philology, was a member of numerous scholarly societies. For his achievements, he received many awards and honours. Professor Tadeusz Skulina died in 1992 after a long and emaciating illness. The scholarly achievements he has left inspire the successive generations of researchers. He also left unfinished written works and ideas which he never managed to realize.

The aim of the article is to analyse the inflectional errors in texts written by Slovenian students of Polish Studies in Ljubljana. The collision of two grammatical systems (in this case: Polish and Slovenian) leads to numerous mistakes. As a result the inflectional errors appear in both spoken and written texts. The incorrect forms have been analysed in the article and the reason for their occurance described. Special attention was paid to mistakes that can result from the influence of the Slovenian language. The analysed material was gathered by the author of the article herself and it comes from the written works of the Polish language students from Ljubljana. The analyses aim to explain the reasons for the errors. This should result in reflection on the effective methods of teaching that could prevent the occurance of such errors.

Opis:

The author undertakes the topic of the Polish language education undergoing constant reform. She refers to the fact that the reformers disregard established didactic conclusions and take into account neither the students’ needs nor the subjectivity of both young people and teachers. She indicates restrictions imposed on the spheres of school leeway and, at the same time, the expansion of the prescribed duties. Additionally, she points to the school curriculum overload. While underscoring the flaws of the literary mandatory readings’ chronological ordering, she elucidates that the contemporary perspective, which have been introduced in teaching, is largely ostensible. What she proves is that editors of new Polish language school books simply multiple requirements towards teenage students and their humanist formation. She denies the purposefulness of teaching multitude of terms to students, and reminds us that such a rote learning trains memory but does not teach one how to think. She describes the petrification of knowledge of language and omission of communicative learning, which both stem from the core curriculum and the conservatism of handbooks. She is convinced that what is genuinely important may transpire at school outside the core curriculum and the scope of school books.

The article contributes to the discussion on the interpretation of processes taking place in the contemporary Polish language from two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic (ahistorical, to be precise). The author draws attention to the problem of not accounting for the achievements of diachronic linguistics, which is visible in the studies devoted to the analysis of the language used by the contemporary Poles. This leads to a situation in which the same research questions are not infrequently examined and interpreted in completely different ways in synchronic studies and those dealing with the history of language. Sometimes the differences are so vast that coherent scientific discourse becomes disabled. Enriching the investigation of the processes occurring in the contemporary Polish language with conclusions drawn from analysing historical sources is thus an important claim. Considering the diachronic perspective could be particularly beneficial for discussing the issue of the norm. Since a number of problems with language correctness result from tendencies and processes which have been happening in language for centuries, only becoming acutely aware of them can bring a change in understanding codification and the linguistic norm.

The aim of the present paper is to disscuss the elision of language sounds in loanwords transferred from German into Polish in the 20th century. Only those loanwords of German origin are examined whose time of transfer into Polish could be clearly indicated and whose etymology could be found.

Opis:

The first university programme in Polish studies in China was launched already in the 1950s. The foundations laid by a few generations of specialists in Polish studies from Beijing Foreign Studies University permit the development of successive programmes in Polish studies in other Chinese academic centres. They use the support of the PRC government, which has been implementing a dynamic foreign policy addressed to the Central and Eastern European countries for a few years now. One of the new centres offering innovative programmes in Polish studies, which are combined with the economic and international path, is the Sichuan University in Chengdu, supported by the University of Warsaw. This paper describes the formation of the Polish+ programme in Chengdu and presents the details related to the curriculum of the studies, which inspires other Chinese higher education institutions to introduce similar specialties in cooperation with the greatest Polish higher education institutions.

The article describes some main problems that Bulgarian students meet during their study of Polish language. The main mistakes in usage of Polish prepositions are grouped in several typological categories and the possible reasons for those mistakes are briefly described. The article is based on a corpus of mistakes made by students that study Polish at the University of Veliko Turnovo. The analysis allows to classify the main difficulties in acquiring Polish prepositions and to build conscious strategy that allows avoiding them in the process of teaching Polish language.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie walorów, jakie niesie nauczanie języka polskiego jako obcego/drugiego poprzez teksty kultury, zwłaszcza literaturę współczesną (przytoczono fragmenty takich książek jak m.in. Bezmatek Miry Marcinów, Rozdeptałem czarnego kota przez przypadek Filipa Zawady, Prymityw. Epopeja narodowa Marcina Kołodziejczyka). Artykuł podpowiada, w jaki sposób za pomocą tekstów literackich możemy mówić o polskiej przestrzeni lokalowej i krajobrazie miejskim (mieszkaniu, domu, regionie). Nauczanie poprzez literaturę, mimo że bywa ona niekiedy trudnym narzędziem wymagającym obróbki, jest doskonałą metodą przekazywania wiedzy o języku oraz realiach, krajobrazie społecznym i kulturze. Literatura jest, zdaniem autorki tego artykułu, niezbędnym elementem w procesie glottodydaktycznym.
The article aims to present the advantages of teaching Polish as a foreign/second language through cultural texts, especially contemporary literature (the study quotes excerpts from such books as Bezmatek [No-mother] by Mira Marcinów, Rozdeptałem czarnego kota przez przypadek [I’ve trampled a black cat accidentely] by Filip Zawada, Prymityw. Epopeja narodowa [Primitive. National epic] by Marcin Kołodziejczyk). The article suggests how we can talk about the Polish domestic space and urban landscape (apartment, house, region) through literary texts. Teaching through literature is an excellent method of conveying knowledge about language and reality, social landscape and culture. According to the author of this article, literature is an essential element in the glottodidactic process.

Acculturation and language proficiency have been found to be inter-related both from the perspective of second language acquisition (Schumann, 1978, 1986) and socio-psychological adaptation in cross-cultural contacts (Ward, Bochner, & Furnham, 2001). However, the predictions as to the effect of a particular strategy on success differ, with assimilation believed to create most favourable conditions for SLA and integration for general well-being. The present study explores acculturation patterns in three expert users of English as a second language, recent Polish immigrants to the UK, in relation to their language experience. The qualitative data were collected with the use of a questionnaire and analysed with respect to language experience and socio-affective factors. The analysis aimed at better understanding of the relationship between language learning in a formal context and language use in a natural setting on the one hand and the relationship between language expertise and acculturation strategy choice on the other. The results show that in spite of individual differences, expert language users tend to adopt an assimilation rather than integration acculturation strategy. This may suggest that attitudes are related to expertise in English as a second language in a more conservative way than advocated by cross-cultural approaches.

Często trudno jest zrozumieć pojęcie studiów polonistycznych za granicą. Autorka prezentuje polonistykę w stolicy Europy. W artykule omawia przypadek francuskojęzycznego Wolnego Uniwersytetu w Brukseli (ULB). Prezentuje polonistykę jako część slawistyki. Wskazuje ograniczenia wpływające na program nauczania. Opisuje niejednorodność studentów: ich różne pochodzenie, wykształcenie i reprezentowaną wielokulturowość. Przedstawia również program studiów oraz środki i rozwiązania ułatwiające optymalizację jednoczesnego nauczania języka i literatury. Wśród wykorzystywanych rozwiązań są nowe technologie, pobyty za granicą i spotkania z osobami mówiącymi w ojczystym języku. Podsumowując, nakreśla proces uczenia się studentów zagranicznych w Brukseli i trudności w nauczaniu, jakie mogą napotkać akademiccy nauczyciele na europejskiej uczelni. Proponuje środki zaradcze pomagające w przezwyciężaniu problemów edukacyjnych.
It is often complicated to understand the concept of Polish studies abroad. The author presents Polish Studies in the capital of Europe. In this Article the case of the French-speaking Free University of Brussels (ULB) is discussed. The author introduces Polish Studies as a part of Slavic Studies, then develops the limitations that this issue has on the program of teaching. The writer profiles the heterogeneity of the students: showing their differences resulting from their origins, backgrounds of knowledge, and the presence of multiculturalism. Then, the study program is explained, as well as the means and solutions facilitating the simultaneous teaching of language and literature Among the solutions are propounded new technologies, stays abroad and encounters with native speakers. In conclusion, the author outlines foreign student’s learning process in Brussels and the teaching difficulties that academic teachers may encounter in European faculties. She provides remedies found to overcome these educational issues.

The primary aim of the article was a reflection on the choice of a coursebook for the Polish language course at Italian universities. The first part of this paper describes the specifics of Polish studies in Italy and focuses on conditions influencing the choice, such as: the profile of the student, type of course and the educational context. The second part presents classifications of manuals used for Polish language courses in Italy. This classifications are accompanied by a list of criteria which help to select some particular groups of manuals.The secondary aim of the article, which is presented in the last part, was to introduces an e-learning platform E-LOCAL supporting a Polish language teaching as an alternative, modern and customizable coursebook.

The purpose of this article is to present the academic profile of Professor Alina Kowalska and to commemorate her as a researcher engaged in scholarly work at the University of Silesia. She was among the people who built the Institute of Polish Studies in Katowice (and earlier in Sosnowiec) from the ground up, and therefore determined its character. Her research interests pivoted around two mutually intertwined issues: the evolution of the general language and evolution of the Silesian Polish in particular. Over time, she started to pay more and more attention to the issues of the Silesian region. Her works were characterized by diligence in language documentation and by research objectivity.

The article contributes to the discussion regarding the state certificate Since the new legislation in 2015 was introduced, the number of for-eign sessions of the state certificate examinations in Polish as a foreign language has significantly decreased. The article aims to show the impact of the amended legal provisions on the availability of the certificate examinations outside of Poland and, consequently on the level of knowledge about them among potential candidates in Italy. The article is based on the results of the survey conducted by the au-thors among the students of Polish studies in Italy.

W artykule przedstawiono sytuację, wyzwania i problemy współczesnej chińskiej polonistyki. Przez ponad 50 lat na terenie Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej funkcjonowała jedna polonistyka — na Pekińskim Uniwersytecie Języków Obcych (Beijing Foreign Studies University), na której kształcono przyszłych tłumaczy, pracowników ministerstw i dyplomacji; Katedra Języka Polskiego na PUJO funkcjonuje do dziś. Od 2009 roku wzrasta w Chinach zainteresowanie nauką języka i kultury polskiej, a polonistyki są tworzone na innych chińskich uniwersytetach, co jest efektem między innymi współpracy Chin z krajami Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej oraz inicjatywy Jeden Pas, Jeden Szlak. W roku akademickim 2020/2021 w Chinach języka polskiego można się uczyć na dwudziestu uczelniach. Dynamiczny rozwój studiów polskich w Chinach stawia przed nauczycielami, studentami oraz instytucjami rządowymi wiele wyzwań.
The article presents the current situation, challenges and problems of Polish studies in China. The oldest department of Polish studies in the PRC was established in 1954 at the Beijing Foreign Studies University and has been functioning to the present day. For over 50 years, there was only one department of Polish studies in the China mainland. However, since 2009, more Chinese universities have started to establish departments of Polish studies. As a result of the China – Central Eastern Europe Cooperation and the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative, the China – Poland relation has been developing dynamically in recent years. Today, in the academic year 2020/2021, 20 Chinese universities offer Polish language programs. The development brings excellent opportunities as well as great challenges for Polish studies in China. Teaching Polish as a foreign language in China, a country remarkably distant in language and culture from Poland, can pose not only entirely new problems but also open new possibilities for further research.

Opis:

This paper examines the Polish translation of the Official Guidelines for Basketball Referees approved by the International Basketball Association (FIBA). It addresses the notion of specialist languages and indicates that the official guidelines for basketball referees possess some characteristics of a specialized text. Referring to translation competence, the article suggests that a non-professional translation of the guidelines can lead to their misinterpretation and, as a result, can influence the course of a game. The article concludes with implications for further theoretical and empirical research on the translation in question.

Koncepcja Leksykonu emblematów kultury polskiej została opracowana na warsztatach naukowych, które odbyły się we wrześniu 2019 roku na Uniwersytecie Fryburskim w Szwajcarii we współpracy z Katolickim Uniwersytetem Lubelskim Jana Pawła II i Uniwersytetem Łódzkim w ramach grantu przyznanego przez Swiss National Science Foundation.W artykule przedstawione są projekt tytułowego leksykonu i rezultaty warsztatów. Autorka koncentruje się na wymiarze glottodydaktycznym konkretnych propozycji hasłowych, omawia również kwestię zastosowania przykładowych ćwiczeń, które w perspektywie pragmatycznej stanowić mają rozwinięcie i uzupełnienie haseł. Stawia też pytania o najlepszy sposób ekscerpcji materiału leksykograficznego.
The article is a part of a “two-voice story” – with Magdalena Smoleń-Wawrzusiszyn – about the Lexicon of emblems of Polish culture.The concept of the lexicon was developed at a scientific workshop held in September 2019 at the University of Freiburg in Switzerland in cooperation with The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and the University of Lodz as part of the grant awarded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The article presents a draft of the above mentioned lexicon and the results of the workshop. The author focuses on the glottodidactic dimension of the specific proposals for entries, and discusses the usage of sample exercises, which in a pragmatic perspective will develop and complement the entries.She also poses questions as to the best way of finding the necessary lexicographic material.

W artykule skupiam się na możliwości wykorzystania plakatów Ryszarda Kai z serii Plakat – Polska na zajęciach z języka polskiego jako obcego (drugiego), ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem problematyki ekologicznej: katastrofy klimatycznej i zaśmiecenia planety. Wybrałam plakaty Kai, ponieważ cieszą się one ogromną popularnością wśród turystów odwiedzających Polskę, są cenione przez historyków i krytyków sztuki, a ponadto widzę w nich potencjał dydaktyczny wart wykorzystania w nauczaniu języka i kultury polskiej. W artykule opisuję własne doświadczenia dydaktyczne, przedstawiam propozycje ćwiczeńjęzykowych i komunikacyjnych oraz sugestie zagadnień kulturoznawczych, które mogą zostać poruszone na zajęciach jpjo na różnych poziomach zaawansowania. Wybrałam 10 obrazów związanych z obszarem nadmorskim: Bałtyk, Sopot, Chałupy, Ustka, Krynica Morska, Kąty Rybackie, Żuławy, Nadmorze, Łeba oraz Zalew Wiślany. Na początku artykułu przybliżam sylwetkę artysty. Następnie wskazuję miejsce plakatu w edukacji, zwracając szczególną uwagę na możliwość użycia teorii metafory kognitywnej w odniesieniu do analizy i interpretacji plakatów. Analizę i interpretację wybranych plakatów oraz proponowane ćwiczenia językowe wpisuję w nurt humanistyki ekologicznej. Artykuł może być pomocny dla lektorów jpjo, ponieważ zawiera propozycje konkretnych poleceń, ponadto wskazuje na możliwości łączenia treści zawartych w programach nauczania z dyskusją o aktualnych problemach.
In the article, I focus on the possibility of using posters by Ryszard Kaja from the series Plakat - Polska [Poster – Poland] in Polish as a second/foreign language classes, with particular emphasis on environmental issues: the climate catastrophe and littering the planet. I chose Kaja’s posters because they are very popular among tourists visiting Poland, they are valued by art historians and critics, and I also see their potential in use for teaching Polish language and culture. I describe my own teaching experiences, I present proposed linguistic and communication exercises, and suggest cultural aspects that can be addressed in PFLclasses at different levels. I selected 10 images related to the coastal area: Baltic Sea, Sopot, Chałupy, Ustka, Krynica Morska, Kąty Rybackie, Żuławy, Nadmorze, Łeba and Vistula Lagoon. At the start of the article, I introduce the artist. I subsequently indicate the place the poster holds in education, focusing particularly on the possibility of using cognitive metaphor theory in relation to the analysis and interpretation of posters. My analysis and interpretation of selected posters and the proposed language exercises fit within the framework of green studies. The article can be helpful for teachers of PFL, as it proposes specific instructions, and also shows how content included in curricula can be combined with discussion of current issues.

Reviews of the latest research papers on the comparative syntax of Ukrainian and Polish languages are discussed in the article. The syntactic parallels in two languages are described in the monographic works of famous Slavicists. The analysis of scientific works on syntactic connections of Ukrainian and Polish languages is worked out in monographs, textbooks, numerous articles.

The article presents the diversity and scope difference of Polish and French linguistic terms appearing in works devoted to the language feminization. The author quotes the terms most often used in Polish and French literature on the subject, discusses their scope and tradition of use. Different ways of understanding the concept of feminization are analyzed. The aim of the article is an attempt to organize the terminological chaos faced by researchers who want to conduct contrastive research on multilingual material. The problem encountered in comparative research involves establishing a common scope to which the terms refer and interpreting the differences. The question arises whether Polish and French researchers, when using freely the terms nazwy żeńskie/les formes féminines/féminisation, really mean the same thing. The author tries to answer the question of how to compare Polish and French exponents of femininity, especially for the purposes of quantitative lexicographic research, and whether Polish male lexemes with immobilized inflection should be considered female names in comparative research, analogically to French epicene nouns? Perhaps due to the lack of semantic symmetry between the terms, one study should develop different criteria for the analysis of Polish and French lexical material.

Opis:

This article presents various layers of vocabulary constituting lexis of the Tatar tefsir, i.e. the translation of the Quran to the Polish language of the northern borderland, performed in the 16th century by Tatars of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Most emphasis was put on the northern borderland, separated on the basis of criteria adopted in the literature of the subject. Selected vocabulary was arranged alphabetically. A context was given in which it occurs and a semantic characteristic was provided on the basis of lexicographic sources – Polish and the East Slavic Languages. It was found that Tatar tefsir contains words previously not described or present in other historic assets of north-eastern borderland. This is particularly true with respect to forms borrowed from the East Slavic Languages, including hybrid forms. What is more, it is characterised by the existence of Old Polish lexis, including names of people performing activities which were not recorded in dictionaries, and other, words used infrequently and in specific text types. Tatar tefsir is also a perfect source for historical studies of Slavic-Oriental relations.

Niniejszy tekst stanowi pokłosie konferencji zorganizowanej w ramach projektu VF pt. The V4 Humanities Education for the Climate, która odbyła się 11 marca 2021 r. online. W obliczu coraz gwałtowniejszych zmian klimatu wpływających na życie nas wszystkich również glottodydaktyka polonistyczna nie może pozostać obojętna. Aktualnym problemem staje się to, w jaki sposób zaangażować ją do celów humanistyki ekologicznej. Autorka artykułu próbuje znaleźć odpowiedź na to pytanie na płaszczyźnie lokalnej, analizując materiały przeznaczone do nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego powstałe z myślą o odbiorcach uczących się tego języka na Słowacji. W drugiej części tekstu formułuje rekomendacje dotyczące wzbogacenia wspomnianych pomocy o dalsze treści środowiskowe. Podstawę dla powyższych badań stanowi przede wszystkim Rozporządzenie MNiSW z dnia 26 lutego 2016r. w sprawie egzaminów z języka polskiego jako obcego, a pod względem identyfikacji treści leksykalnych – Kompetencja leksykalna uczących się języka polskiego jako obcego w świetle badań ilościowych. Aneks 2 (Seretny, 2011).
This text results from a conference organised as part of the VF project entitled The V4 Humanities Education for the Climate, held online on 11 March 2021. In the face of the increasingly intense climate change affecting the lives of all of us, Polish glottodidactics cannot remain indifferent either. A topical issue is how to harness it for the purposes of green studies. The paper seeks an answer to this question on a local level by analysing materials intended for teaching Polish as a foreign language created for students learning it in Slovakia. The second part of the paper contains recommendations on how to expand such aids by adding further environmental content. The basis underlying the above research is primarily the Ordinance of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 26 February 2016 on examinations in Polish as a foreign language, and in terms of identifying lexical content, it is provided by Lexical competence of learners of Polish as a foreign language in light of quantitative studies. Annex 2 (Seretny, 2011).

Opis:

Michał Amszejewicz in Dykcjonarz, which was a record of vocabulary of foreign origin used in the Polish language in the middle of the 19th century, recorded more than eight hundred lexical units (838 in 633 entries, which comprise 511 monosemes and 122 polysemes with two or more meanings) present in the lexis as a result of interference between the Polish and the German languages. Their functional allocation is diversified, with specialist lexis being dominant. Analysed vocabulary in the middle of the 19th century was functionally allocated to various areas of activity, firstly to crafts – 155 lexical units (18.5%), next to military and its organisation – 93 lexical units (11.1%), merchant’s profession and its specifics, commercial and financial aspects – 72 lexical units (8.6%). The remaining 518 lexical units (61.8%) are scattered in the lexicon of another several dozens of specialties, such as rafting, mining, metallurgy, forestry, meteorology, gardening, fine arts and others. Until the beginning of the 21st century, out of 838 analysed lexical units a diversified life cycle was preserved by 321 (38.3%), and 517 (61.7%) were transferred to linguistic archives of the Polish Language. In analysed vocabulary of German origin, actively used in the most recent Polish Language, biased lexis is dominant – in terms of terminology and style; less frequently these are words with a neutral character, regarded as basic vocabulary. Analysed Germanisms have also undergone semantic changes, i.e. specialisation, generalisation, metaphorisation and partial transformations. Germanisms in the Polish Language of the 19th century are a cultural and linguistic fact, which is characterised by certain specific conditions, also in terms of the time of their use and functionality, which has been emphasised on numerous occasions by their researcher – Bogusław Nowowiejski.

Opis:

Polish studies in China have a history of over 65 years. The oldest centre of Polish studies was established in Beijing (Beijing Foreign Studies University) in 1954. In the last decade, several centres teaching Polish language and culture have emerged in China. The development, implementation, and modifications of the curricula of teaching Chinese students Polish constitutes an important issue and a major challenge for centres of Polish studies in China. This article discusses the latest curriculum of teaching Polish at Beijing Foreign Studies University, with the oldest Polish courses in China, and presents the strategy and methods for implementing the curriculum using the example of translation classes. I shall answer the question of what role in the Chinese-Polish exchange Polish studies in China can play, and what the objective of producing Polish studies graduates in China is and how that is fulfilled.
Studia polonistyczne w Chinach posiadają ponad 65-letnią historię. Najstarsza polonistyka powstała w Pekinie (Beijing Foreign Studies University, Pekiński Uniwersytet Języków Obcych) w roku 1954. W ostatniej dekadzie powstało kilkanaście ośrodków uczących języka i kultury polskiej w Państwie Środka. Opracowanie, wdrażanie i modyfikacja programu nauczania języka polskiego chińskich studentów stanowi istotną kwestię i duże wyzwanie dla chińskich polonistyk. Niniejsza praca skupia się na omówieniu najnowszego programu nauczania języka polskiego na Pekińskim Uniwersytecie Języków Obcych (PUJO), gdzie funkcjonuje najstarsza polonistyka, jednocześnie przedstawia strategię i metody wdrażania programu na przykładzie zajęć tłumaczeniowych. Autorka próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie, jaką rolę mają odegrać polonistyki chińskiew wymianie chińsko-polskiej? Jaki jest cel wykształcenia kadry polonistycznej w Chinach i sposób jego realizacji.

Najważniejsze dzieła Brunona Schultza i Witolda Gombrowicza zostały przetłumaczone na język japoński już w latach 60. XX wieku, głównie przez Yukio Kudō. Zostałem uwiedziony do tego stopnia przez te japońskie teksty, że zdecydowałem się porzucić literaturę francuską na rzecz polskiej literatury współczesnej. W 1974 roku przyjechałem do Polski na staż podyplomowy jako stypendysta rządu polskiego i podjąłem studia w zakresie literatury i języka polskiego na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim. Podczas dwuletniego pobytu w Krakowie mój obraz literatury polskiej przechodził różne fazy. Szybko minęła ta, która była ugruntowana na znanych mi wcześniej japońskich przekładach, potem rozpoczęło się moje „polowanie” na obiecujących autorów polskich nieobecnych jeszcze w światowej literaturze. Tak odkryłem pisarza płodnego, ezoterycznego i trudnego – Teodora Parnickiego (1908–1988). Niniejszy esej jest opisem mojego „przedzierania się” przez polszczyznę w owych czasach.
The major works by Bruno Schulz and Witold Gombrowicz were translated into Japanese in the 1960s, mainly by Yukio Kudō. I was enchanted by those Japanese texts to such an extent that I decided to abandon French literature and switch to Polish contemporary literature. In 1974, I came to Poland on a post-graduate fellowship of the Polish government, and I began studies in literature and the Polish language at the Jagiellonian University. During that two-year stay in Krakow, my view of Polish literature changed several times. The phase well established in the Japanese translations I had known ended quickly. Then I began to “hunt” for promising Polish authors not yet present in world literature. I thus discovered the prolific, esoteric and difficult Teodor Parnicki (1908–1988). This essay is my description of my “penetrating” the world of the Polish language at that time.

Gatunki to wytwory kultur, odzwierciedlające potrzeby i praktyki społeczności, które je wytworzyły. Ucząc cudzoziemców języka polskiego jako obcego powinniśmy zapoznać ich z wieloma polskimi gatunkami wypowiedzi, zalecanymi w programach do nauczania języki polskiego jako obcego. List motywacyjny to stosunkowo nowy gatunek w polskim kontinuum mowy, przejęty po przełomie 1989 r. z kultury anglosaskiej. Jest to gatunek złożony, czerpiący z innych, takich jak list urzędowy, podanie, list reklamowy, życiorys. W artykule przedstawiono opis gatunku zgodnie z koncepcją wzorca gatunkowego Marii Wojtak, obejmującego cztery aspekty: strukturalny, pragmatyczny, poznawczy i językowy. Dynamika gatunku wpłynęła na powstanie wzorca kanonicznego oraz wzorców alternacyjnych i adaptacyjnych tej odmiany listu. Genologiczna definicja listu motywacyjnego mówi, że jest to krótki tekst (maksymalnie jednostronicowy) o ściśle określonej strukturze, którego celem jest skłonienie odbiorcy (pracodawcy) do zatrudnienia nadawcy, pokazuje on sferę życia związaną ze środowiskiem pracy i edukacji, zwykle wyrażony jest w sposób schematyczny i szablonowy (wzorce uzualne są często kopią wzorców normatywnych). Cudzoziemcy powinni poznać wszystkie cztery aspekty opisu tego gatunku dla efektywnej komunikacji w polskim środowisku językowym i kulturowym.
Genres are products of cultures, reflecting the needs and practices of communities that have created them. Teaching the Polish language to foreigners, we should make them familiar with numerous Polish genres of speech, recommended in programmes of teaching Polish as a foreign language. The cover letter is a relatively new genre in the Polish continuum of speech, adopted from the Anglo-Saxon culture after the transition in 1989. It is a complex genre, deriving from others, such as the official letter, application, advertisement letter, and CV. The article presents a description of the genre, according to the genre pattern by Maria Wojtak, including four aspects: structural, pragmatic, ontological and linguistic. The dynamics of the genre resulted in the creation of a canon model, alternative variants and adaptive variants of this type of letter. The definition of the cover letter in terms of genre studies states that it is a short text (maximum one page) with a strictly defined structure, aiming at making the recipient (potential employer) hire the sender, it shows the sphere of life related to the world of labour and education, and is usually expressed in a schematic and clichéd manner (usage patterns are often copies of normative patterns). Foreigners should learn all four aspects of description of this genre of speech for effective communication in the environment of the Polish language and culture.
