Opis:
Early traces of Psychosomatics in fiction and particularly in drama can be found in pathbreaking texts by Friedrich Schiller, Georg Büchner, and Arthur Schnitzler. These medical doctors pay close attention to the mind-body problem. They transfer their observations into poetry, creating world literature. As sons of doctors, they rebelled against their fathers as well as some of the dominant concepts of medicine and society. Friedrich Schiller. It were the plays about freedom: „Die Räuber“ (1782) „Don Carlos“ (1787) and „Wilhelm Tell“ (1804) which established Friedrich Schiller’s fame; Schiller, son of a surgeon (Wundarzt), studied medicine at the military academy in Stuttgart. Before the successful premiere of „Die Räuber” in Mannheim, the budding regimental doctor has drawn up three academic studies dealing with philosophic, physiologic, and psychosomatic issues. Georg Büchner. The playwriter and private lecturer Georg Büchner can be considered a precursor of Psychosomatics within scientific medicine. His father was a surgeon and the district doctor of Darmstadt. Georg Büchner’s fierce debates about the issue of the Biedermeier-attitude led him to become a revolutionary. His most important plays are „Dantons Tod“ (1835) and „Woyzeck“ (1836). Arthur Schnitzler. Towards the end of the 19th century, the doctor, dramatist, and storyteller Arthur Schnitzler who was the son of a laryngologist in Vienna linked Literature and Psychoanalysis to represent processes of the inner life. These efforts were based on his works about hypnotic and suggestive therapies of functional (psychogenic) disorders. He developed with Lieutenant Gustl (1900) und Fräulein Else (1924) the narrative form of the „internal monologue” for the German language. The article introduces 33 poets, doctors, rebels, for example, Francois de Rabelais and Johann Christian Günther, John Keats and Justinus Kerner, or Alfred Döblin and Rainald Götz. In the 20th century, poets and doctors like Harriet Straub, Charlotte Wolff and Hertha Nathorff, who were engaged in the women’s movement, joined them. These writers have a unique sensorium to perceive what might be significant for them as doctors and poets, what art and medicine are about, and what effects their lives because it affects them. Whichever observations and adventures they transform into literature: it is the medical work that provides experiences about life and pain.

This paper focuses upon some of the female poets in Kurdish literature who have played a major role in establishing Kurdish women’s poetry and their poetic texts, and how their voices become deeper and more feminine. The study will encompass the earliest Kurdish female poet from the classic period -Masture-y Ardalani (1805–1848), one of the most prominent Kurdish poets - and four poets from the modern period, namely Diya Ciwan (b. 1953), Kazhal Ahmed (b. 1967), Nezend Begikhani (b. 1964), and Mahabad Qaradaghi (b. 1966). The existence of feminine poetry in Kurdish literature is considered new born, but in fact the real emergence of women’s poetry in Kurdish literature dates back to the early 1990s, aTher the liberation of southern Kurdistan from the Saddam Hussein regime. Additionally, it is important to note that the Kurdish political and creative history is not without women’s presence.

Opis:
This essay contextualises Shakespeare as product of a field of forces encapsulating national identity and relative cultural status. It begins by historicising the production of national poets in Romantic and Nationalist terms. Lefevere’s conceptual grid is then used to characterise the system that underpins the production of Shakespeare as British national poet, and his place within the canon of world literature. The article defines this context first before moving onto the figure of Shakespeare, by referring to various high status texts such as the Kalevala, the Aeneid, The Faerie Queene and Paradise Lost. The position accorded Shakespeare at the apex is therefore contingent upon a series of prior operations on other texts, and their writers. Shakespeare is not conceived as attaining pre-eminence because of his own innate literary qualities. Rather, a process of elimination occurs by which the common ascription of the position of national poet to a writer of epic is shown to be a cultural impossibility for the British. Instead, via Aristotle’s privileging of tragedy over epic, the rise of Shakespeare is seen as almost a second choice because of the inappropriateness of Spenser and Milton for the position.

Opis:
The explorative study hereby presented is based on in-depth interviews with 16 renowned Israeli writers of prose and poetry. The aim of the study is to examine the identity-stories of these masters of the written word. By the term "identity-story", we relate to the self-reflective or "arspoetic" sides of the life stories our interviewees presented, the hows, whens and whys which had brought them to realize their identities as their cultures' authorized authors or poets. Thematic analysis of these stories, conducted in the spirit of the Schutzian Phenomenological-Interpretive approach, reveals an interesting interplay of two seemingly contradictory core meta-themes - identity-creation and identity-discovery. The present paper is focused on the identity-discovery meta-theme. Unlike the identitycreation meta-theme, which illustrates active, deliberate and conscious processes of identity construction within the social world, the identitydiscovery meta-theme is based on narratives that detect the belief in the feasibility of a transcendental revelation of a given identity, whose roots lies beyond the ties of time and place.

Opis:
This essay is dedicated to an eminent Polish émigré couple in Great Britain, Krystyna Bednarczyk (1923–2011) and Czesław Bednarczyk (1912–1994) who organized one of the most influential cultural centres in London starting in 1950. They initiated their publishing venture by editing small poetry collections written by young Polish poets in exile, illustrated by talented artists. The company was registered by the U.K. authorities as the Poets’ and Painters’ Press. In 1954 they rented a unit under the Arches near Charing Cross and Waterloo and turned it into a successful printing house which eventually closed in 1992. Polish writers from all over the world became their clients, as well as a number of British and other authors and publishers. From 1966 until 1980 they also printed and edited a quarterly magazine of poetry, prose, translations, graphics and artworks. Its 57 issues had contributions from over 100 Polish writers, including at least 30 native Polish poets. The essay is mainly based on published memoirs by Czesław Bednarczyk and unpublished correspondence between the editorial couple and their writer-clients. The author cites positive and negative opinions of Krystyna and Czesław Bednarczyk’s works from various sources, including well known names such as Czesław Miłosz and Jerzy Giedroyć.

This paper highlights the way in which some Latin American women poets from different decades of the twentieth century, and from different countries, approached the territory of desire and pleasure, at times vindicating it by revealing how patriarchal culture denied them their expression, both in life as in literature, at other times, simply and decisively, proclaiming it without any kind of restriction. To this goal, significant examples of poetic approaches, emphases, and different tones are provided throughout the article.

Kashubians, the ethnic group living in the Pomerania region for hundreds of years and speaking its own language, has created its own culture and tradition, also literary. The Kashubian literature, although barely a hundred-and-fifty-year-old, has a quite considerable output, especially of poetic works. Poetry conveys what is important and most intimate for a given community. Reading this literature, we can discover Kashubians’ most cherished values recorded in it. During less than one hundred and fifty years, they have turned out numerous collections of poetry, several anthologies as well as many works published in the papers or special issues. Yet, the history of this literature has never been fully analyzed and the contemporary poetry criticism is almost non-existent. Among the poets contributing to the panorama of the latest Kashubian poetry there are several women. Three of them: Krystyna Muza, Ida Czaja and Bożena Szymańska deserve a special attention, and the achievements of the latter will be briefly outlined here. When analyzing their poetry, I examined the themes, space in which they put their lyrical “I” and their characters, as well as the poetics of their works. Poetry is a space in which they discover and create their identity. They define it in relation to their own self, to another person, to the highest values.
