    Opis:
    Optical low-coherence tomography is a measurement technique for non-contact and non-destructive investigation of materials inner structure. Nowadays, this method is highly applied in medical treatment especially in dermatology and ophthalmology. During our research we have developed an optical low-coherence tomography system with polarization state analysis for structure examination of a broad range of technical materials. In this paper we present our recent measurements including polarization sensitive analysis. Those measurements were taken for semitransparent and highly scattering materials like polymer layers and polymer optical retarders, anticorrosion protective coatings or abrasive paper. We proved that with the aid of developed polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography system it is possible to investigate birefringence principles of materials as well as to improve visualization contrast of cross-sectional images.

    W artykule zaproponowano zastosowanie optycznej interferometrii niskokoherentnej w diagnostyce powłok ochronnych. W badaniach wykorzystano optyczny tomograf koherencyjny wykorzystujący interferometr w konfiguracji Michelsona. W układzie pomiarowym użyto podczerwone źródło promieniowania o krótkiej drodze koherencji, którym był światłowód fotoniczny pobudzany erbowym laserem femtosekundowym. Zastosowano detekcję zrównoważoną niewrażliwą na zmiany polaryzacji przez badany obiekt. Przedstawione wyniki pomiarów pokazały, że można tą techniką diagnozować powłoki ochronne bazujące na farbie zawierającej silnie rozpraszające lub absorbujące pigmenty.
    In this paper, the use of optical low-coherent interferometry for diagnosis of protective layer is proposed. We have used an optical coherent tomography (OCT) system which was based on Michelson interferometer. During our research, a super-continuum infrared light source based on photonic crystal fiber stimulated by a femtosecond erbium-doped laser was used. Balanced and polarization-sensitive detection was employed. Obtained measurement results demonstrate the ability of our system to diagnose high scattering or absorbing protective paint layers by the OCT system.

    The optical coherence tomography is an optical measurement technique used for investigation of wide range of scattering or semitransparent materials. The optical coherence tomography enables surface and subsurface examination of different types of materials to be performed in non-contact and non-destructive way. Our research have been concentrated on optical coherence tomography systems with polarization sensitive analysis. Such a combination of optical measurements methods improves optical coherence tomography visualization contrast and also delivers some extra information about investigated devices. However, applying polarization sensitive analysis is associated with problems related to the use of ultra broadband optical sources. We have managed studies on the improvement of signal processing method. According to obtained results the problem of signal processing method in polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography can be solved by the use of the spectroscopic analysis. In this paper we present a brief discussion about the polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography measurements supported by spectroscopic analysis of backscattered light from investigated device.

    Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is one of the most rapidly advancing techniques. This method is capable of non-contact and non-destructive investigation of the inner structure of a broad range of materials. Compared with other methods which belong to the NDE/NDT group (Non-Destructive Evaluation/Non-Destructive Testing methods), OCT is capable of a broad range of scattering material structure visualization. Such a non-invasive and versatile method is very demanded by the industry. The authors applied the OCT method to examine the corrosion process in metal samples coated by polymer films. The main aim of the research was the evaluation of the anti-corrosion protective coatings using the OCT method. The tested samples were exposed to a harsh environment. The OCT measurements have been taken at different stages of the samples degradation. The research and tests results have been presented, as well as a brief discussion has been carried out.

    The formulation and algorithmic aspects of nonlinear thermo-elasticity are reviewed in the paper. The attention is focused on coupling due to thermal expansion and temperature dependence of elastic model parameters, and on the consistent linearization of the ensuing nonlinear set of equations for two-field finite elements. Non-stationary heat flow, static loading and small strains are assumed. The solutions of some benchmark examples, obtained using the developed finite element environment FEMDK, are presented. The formulation has a more general application domain in the context of arbitrary coupling of a nonstationary diffusion proces and momentum balance.
    W artykule przedstawiono sformułowanie i aspekty algorytmizacji dla nieliniowych problemów termosprężystości. Skupiono się na problemie sprzężenia wynikającego z rozszerzalności cieplnej oraz zależności parametrów materiałowych od temperatury. Przeprowadzono konsystentną linearyzację nieliniowego układu równań opisującego rozpatrywany problem i zaproponowano dwupolowy element skończony. Rozważania dotyczą niestacjonarnego przepływu ciepła przy założeniu statycznego charakteru obciążeń mechanicznych oraz małych odkształceń. Przedstawiono rozwiązania wybranych żądań benchmarkowych. Obliczenia wykonano przy użyciu rozwijanego środowiska obliczeniowego FEMDK, opartego na metodzie elementów skończonych. Zaprezentowane sformułowanie może mięć bardziej ogólne zastosowanie dla dowolnego przypadku sprzężenia niestacjonarnego procesu dyfuzji z problemami opisywanymi przez równania bilansu pędu.

    The results of calculations using local density approximation and generalized gradient approximation: the total energy depending on the volume of the unit cell, the distribution of the total density of states and the partial contributions of electronic orbitals in the band structure of Tl4CdI6 and Tl4HgI6 crystals are shown in this paper. The spectra of the real part of the dielectric permittivity, the spectra of the imaginary part of permittivity, the reflection spectra and the absorption coefficient of both crystals are obtained using the Kramers–Kronig method. A comparative analysis of theoretical calculations with experimental data is carried out. Substantial influence of electron–phonon broadening is shown.

    This paper presents measurement of shielding effectiveness for 50Hz electric and magnetic field while using different materials (ferromagnetic/diamagnetic), that varies between structure (net/solid sheet; open/close shields), intensity of EM field (phenomenon of saturation to magnetic materials) and frequency spectrum (50Hz field with higher spectrum). Wide-range frequency analysis for EM field was also taken into account in order to present distortions in measurements, caused by High Voltage Impulse Generator.
    Jednym ze skutków działania wysokonapięciowych urządzeń elektroenergetycznych jest wytwarzanie pól elektromagnetycznych wokół swoich konstrukcji. Pola te mogą negatywnie wpływać na organizmy żywe oraz zakłócać funkcjonowanie innych urządzeń elektrycznych i elektronicznych znajdujących się w pobliżu. Rozwiązaniem tego problemu jest zastosowanie odpowiednich układów ekranujących urządzenia wytwarzające pole elektromagnetyczne lub osób i urządzeń które są narażone na oddziaływanie pola. Ze względu na swoje przeznaczenie, klatki ekranujące pole mają różne formy konstrukcyjne i są wykonane z różnych materiałów w celu zapewnienia wymaganych parametrów przy obniżeniu kosztów ich wykonania. Problemy związane z występowaniem nienilowych zależności w stosowanych materiałach, duże gabaryty urządzeń oraz wymagania dotyczące kompatybilności elektromagnetycznej powodują iż projektowanie takich klatek jest skomplikowanym zagadnieniem technicznym. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości ekranowania pól elektromagnetycznych, wytwarzanych przez różne urządzenia elektroenergetyczne. Porównano wyniki pomiarów tłumienia, wykonane dla ekranów o różnych konstrukcjach i zbudowanych z różnych materiałów.

    Five polymers dispersed liquid crystalline (LC) films were fabricated using photo-polymerizable monomers with different lengths of carbon chains. These LC films have shown different electro-optical (EO) properties. Through their SEM pictures, the relationship between the linear electro-optical effect and the mesh size of the polymer network was explored. With the increase of number of photo-polymerizable monomers, the mesh size of the polymer network would become larger. So the liquid crystal molecules would be easily oriented in the electric field and therefore, the threshold voltage and saturation voltage would decrease. The open state response times were also reduced and the off state response times would be extended. The DFT simulations have shown principal role of the ground state dipole moments in the observed electro-optical efficiency.

    Two Chlamydomonas reinhardtii CW15 populations modified by an excess of copper in growth medium were obtained: a “Cu” population that was continuously grown under the selection pressure of 5 μM Cu²⁺ (for at least 48 weeks) and the “Re” population, where a relatively short (9 week) exposure to elevated copper, necessary for acquiring tolerance, was followed by a prolonged period (at least 39 weeks) of cultivation at a normal (0.25 μM) copper concentration. Cells of the Cu population were able to multiply at a Cu²⁺ concentration 16 times higher than that of the control population at a normal light intensity and at a Cu²⁺ concentration 64 times higher when cultivated in dim light. The potential quantum yield of photosystem II (FV/FM ratio) under copper stress was also significantly higher for the Cu population than for Re and control populations. The Re population showed only residual tolerance towards the elevated concentration of copper, which is revealed by an FV/FM ratio slightly higher than in the control population under Cu²⁺ stress in dim light or in darkness. We postulate that in the Chlamydomonas populations studied in this paper, at least two mechanisms of copper tolerance operate. The first mechanism is maintained during cultivation at a standard copper concentration and seems to be connected with photosynthetic apparatus. This mechanism, however, has only low adaptive value under excess of copper. The other mechanism, with a much higher adaptive value, is probably connected with Cu²⁺ homeostasis at the cellular level, but is lost during cultivation at a normal copper concentration.

    Distributed measurement often relies on sensor networks. In this paper, we present the construction of low-coherence fiber-optic Fabry-Pérot sensors connected into a quasi-distributed network. We discuss the mechanism of spectrum modulation in this type of sensor and the constraints of assembly of such sensors in the network. Particular attention was paid to separate the signals from individual sensors which can be achieved by cavity length-based addressing. We designed and built a laboratory model of a temperature sensors network. The employed sensors are low-coherence Fabry-Pérot interferometric sensors in a fiber-optics configuration. The extrinsic sensor cavity utilizes the thermal expansion of ceramics, and the sensors are addressed by the different lengths of the cavities. The obtained test results show that the signal components from each sensor can be successfully separated, and the number of sensors could be expanded depending on the FWHM of the light source.
