    Opis:
    François Guizot was the most important collaborator of king Louis Philippe, a clever political thinker and a brilliant historian. But finally, in 1848, all his political conceptions and ideas failed completely. This article tries to explain why this happened. François Guizot was one of the most – or even the most – influential French politicians of the 1830s and 1840s. Especially after 1840, when he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was in fact the most powerful member of the French cabinet. He was also a clever and sagacious political thinker, one the leaders of the liberal opposition against the Bourbon government of Charles X. But, over time, his liberalism became more and more conservative, and his government – impervious to the changes, new tendencies and ideas of the French society. Guizot’s foreign policy changed in the same direction – from the ‘entente cordiale’ with Great Britain, based on the liberal character of both countries, to a dynastic vision of international relations, looking for an alliance with the conservative court of Vienna. Therefore Guizot could not have foreseen the revolution of 1848, and when it came, he was absolutely unable to understand it. His political career collapsed completely and irremediably.

    The article presents biography understood as a representation, using Frank Ankersmith’s concept of „rendering justice” to the past, Philippe Lejeune’s referential pact, and Michał Paweł Markowski’s typology of four ideologies of representation. Biography as a representation refers to the very essence of the issue (representation) and textuality, therefore a dedicated subchapter is devoted to literary ways of creating the past. Finally, in paper’s ending part, the issue of re-presenting as embodiment of the author in a symbolic frontier is brought forward, along with the problem of the relationship between the author and the reader.

    In many foundries, numerical simulation is used to determine the origins of different defects as this tool allows the acceleration of the design process. However, the databases provided by different software do not seem to tally with the actual properties of the material. In fact, every foundry uses a different grade of steel and varying mixtures of sand. An evaluation of the impact of different material properties showed the importance of measuring every physical property to improve the database of the software. Following this, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the gap between numerical simulations and the results obtained through experimentation. This experiment, called thermal analysis, consists in measuring the solidification and cooling of a cylinder filled with liquid steel. After the calculation of the steel properties and a simulation with real experimental parameters, a comparison between each cooling curve was realized. This comparison shows that the calculated properties provide a simulated cooling curve which is closer to the experimental curve than the properties in the original database. We did not explore all of the metal properties in this study, but the modification of the sand properties was explored, together with the thermal conductivity of the steel and sand. These other measurements will be obtained in a future study.
