This study investigates the perspectives of young women with disabilities in Jordan, focusing on their self-regulation. 16 young women, aged 18-22, with visual (VI), hearing (HI) impairments and physical disability (PD), were recruited using a snowballing technique. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, which were analysed thematically. Two main themes emerged where findings show that disability affects self-regulation where there was an overlap between local cultural perspectives in understanding disability of young women, disability and gender in understanding self-regulation of women with disabilities. Disability and gender also influence women with disabilities self-regulation with respect to self-learning, setting goals, self-evaluation, self-monitoring, making decisions and self-reinforcement. Findings will add to the current debate and efforts to understand disabilities in women and lay the groundwork for initiating a campaign in Jordan concentrating on the importance of self-regulation in young women with disabilities.

Over the past four decades of research on school bullying have produced an extensive body of knowledge about the nature of this phenomenon, its determinants and consequences. Bullying has been examined and explained in individual as well as in contextual terms, and from a wide range of different theories and research methods. In the literature, it can be found some attempts to sort out scientific approaches to bullying.In this article, which should be treated as review-style essay, I will present two complementary approaches to analyzing school bullying, namely (1) person-oriented analytical approach which focuses on analyzing of individual traits and characteristics of children involved in school bullying, and (2) processual analytical approach that emphasizes the processes involved. These approaches were distinguished based on the review of Polish and foreign literature on school bullying.

Agriculture in Russia is in the process of restructuring and overcoming the production and economic crisis. Measures undertaken in order to make agricultural development more dynamic are only partially successful. The level of agricultural production is still lower than in 1990-1991. Particularly strong difficulties can be observed in attempts to accelerate development of animal production. In conditions of rapid increase of people’s income, increase in production achieved in last few years did not bring the reduction of dynamics of increasing food imports nor did it improve the country’s food self-sufficiency. As a result Russia becomes a bigger and bigger importer of agricultural and food products, especially of animal origin. Analyses indicate that even full implementation of tasks written down in the programme for the development of agriculture for 2008-2012 and satisfying assumptions concerning the improvement of country’s food security, would not lead to Russia’s food self-sufficiency even in 2020. At the same time Russia, due to low level of development of animal-origin food production, is a large and growing exporter of cereal, oil plants and oil. Russia’s entering into WTO and the financial crisis can hamper development trends in Russian agriculture. Simultaneously, however, these factors can also limit dynamics of the national demand for food. Such conditions may cause further increase of export of vegetable products.

The meaning of “bioenergy therapy” is very contentious. It is also very different valued – as total negative or total positive. As a phenomenon “bioenergy therapy” is very difficult to estimate, but real problems are connected with her interpretations, because they are often loaded with pseudo-religion, pseudo-philosophy or pseudoscience. In the face of danger to link such parapsychological phenomenon with occultism or magic exists also a big danger of demonic using and interpretation. Theology has the task to judge critically from their own view “bioenergy therapy” and to show soberly positive possibilities of such therapy and risks connected with her.

The paper presents theoretical considerations on the role of dialogue in ICC development and assessment and the model for ICC assessment as a practical application. It is argued here that the application of the idea of dialogue in a Bakhtinian sense may constitute a theoretical framework for ICC assessment since this kind of dialogue involves the presentation of a variety of opinions or ideas. The model for ICC assessment, as it was developed for the purpose of the author’s unpublished PhD dissertation, is presented in this paper. The model includes various types of tests that can be incorporated into ICC evaluation. The final part of the discussion attempts at showing the points of convergence between DA approach and the dialogic approach to ICC assessment.

The term “new media” should be considered in accordance to the temporal and spatial context, because something “new” could be “new” only now and here or would be “new” only someday and somewhere, and not forever and everywhere. Therefore it is necessary to take into consideration that hundreds years ago the press was “new”, in the 20th Century the radio and television became “new media”, and today the term “new media” means, above all, the Internet, mobile telephones and other digital media. Nevertheless, R.D. Wimmer and J.R. Dominick describe the term “new media” in broader context, taking into consideration also different implications of the ICT to the human and social life. There are many different aspects of the “new media” that need to be investigated, and many of them are subjects of many studies realized by scientists from different countries. They research the impact of the “new media” to the traditional mass media, the influence of the Internet on politics and the political marketing, but also other social, economical and communicational aspects of this complex phenomenon. It is important also that the “new media” are useful tools for the researchers on every stage of any scientific investigation. There is strong need to investigate the “new media” in different contexts to understand better the new modern reality.

The time perspective has been the subject of various studies aimed at understanding human behavior.Our goal was to extend the growing literature in this field by studying the role of time perspectives in shaping online behavior among digital natives. 569 digital natives at the tertiary education level completed self-report forms assessing two major processes: time perspectives and online behavior. Adverse time-perspective biases were found to be related to rude, harsh, and distrustful online behavior. Present-oriented people displayed a high amount of online activity, while future-oriented ones showed a more functional approach to Internet use. Pastpositive and past-negative orientations occurred concomitantly with different levels of affability online. We discuss the findings and their limitations, along with suggestions for future research in this field. As it is possible to modify time perspectives, this study may contribute to the development of methods aimed at preventing undesirable online behavior and improving individuals’ well-being.

Miasta konurbacji rybnickiej identyfikowane były jako ważne ośrodki wzrostu społeczno-gospodarczego. Odkrycie węgla kamiennego w latach 50. XX w. spowodowało gwałtowną industrializację, urbanizację i w konsekwencji monofunkcyjny rozwój obszaru. Współcześnie obserwuje się pewną dualność uwarunkowań demograficzno-społecznych i gospodarczych. Miasta stoją w obliczu wyzwań spowodowanych zmniejszaniem się liczby ludności, będącym wynikiem silnego odpływu migracyjnego. Z drugiej strony sytuacja ekonomiczna jest relatywnie korzystna, co sprzyja modernizacji gospodarczej obszaru. Górnictwo węglowe powoli traci swoją dominującą rolę i następuje dywersyfikacja gospodarki. W opracowaniu wskazano perspektywy rozwoju ośrodków miejskich konurbacji rybnickiej na podstawie ich potencjałów określonych w dokumentach strategicznych miast.
The cities of the Rybnik conurbation used to be regarded as important centers of socio-economic growth. The discovery of coal in the 1950s lead to rapid industrialization, urbanization and, consequently, monofunctional development of the area. At present, a certain duality of demographic and social, as well as economic determinants is noticeable. The cities are facing challenges due to declining population, which is a result of strong migration outflow. On the other hand, the economic situation is relatively favorable, which is conducive to the economic modernization of the area. Coal mining is slowly losing its dominant role and is being followed by diversification of the economy. The study indicates perspectives for the development of urban centers in the Rybnik conurbation based on their potentials identified in strategic documents of the cities.

The rapid development of technologies and the increasingly strict international shipping regulations help to explain a significant decrease in shipping losses over decades. However, the number of accidents attributable to human errors, in which communication failures represent one third, has not been reduced proportionally. Under the Manila Amendments 2010, it became a compulsory requirement for every company to ensure that seafarers can communicate effectively. Communicative competence of seafarers has been of vital significance in modern shipping. A majority of merchant ships in international voyages are manned with multicultural and multilingual crew. It is not only the multilingual but also the intercultural character of mariners that leads to miscommunication on board. Additionally, communicative competence involves psycholinguistic, strategic and pragmatic aspects. The concept of communicative competence is relatively new in the context of maritime education and training in China and there is a dearth of research dealing with Chinese seafarers' communicative competence. Through an empirical study, this paper aims to fill in the gap by investigating the current status of Chinese seafarers' communicative proficiency from linguistic, intercultural, psycholinguistic, strategic and pragmatic perspectives to understand their strengths and weaknesses in their English communication. Based on the findings of quantitative data analysis, recommendations are finally made to improve Chinese seafarers' communicative competence.

Financial efficiency is one of the basic categories used to describe the state, functioning and development possibilities of various types of organizations. The essence of the financial efficiency, content and tools evolve constantly. The same goes for agriculture. Although this sector still observes the domination of classic accounting measures and ratios, describing past accomplishments not linked to market appraisal, new concepts arise gradually, which suite the contemporary conditions of farming as well as the goals and expectations of farmers themselves. The above induces the implementation of financial efficiency measurement patterns based on economic profit and cash flows. Such patterns feature reference to the process of value creation, thus treating farms as financial investment and subjects of investment decisions.

Opis:
Hybrid synchronous and asynchronous language learning remains under-explored in writing class. The purpose of this study is to describe learners’ perceptions toward hybrid synchronous and asynchronous language learning model in EFL writing. A qualitative case study was employed. The respondents were undergraduate learners in English major. The research instruments were close-response questionnaires and semi-structured interviews in the academic writing course. Findings showed that psychological and social factors were crucial in the learners’ online writing. It revealed that teachers needed to provide comprehensible input, challenging group-work activity, and constructive feedback during online writing. Hybrid synchronous and asynchronous language learning enhanced writing competence, but it encountered a problem with internet connectivity. The study discloses that hybrid synchronous and asynchronous language learning has the potential to teach EFL writing.

Previous research has shown the importance of time perspectives (TP) in future-oriented decision making. However, the possible associations between time perspectives and seeking out psychological help in need have not been examined extensively, especially taking further influencing factors into consideration. Therefore, this study aimed to assess associations between personal time perspectives, stigma, socio-economic factors, and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help (ATTSPPH) in a sample of adults in the general population in Hungary (N=273) aged 18-84 (mean=28.47, SD= 10.31). Multivariate regression analyses found that attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help were inversely associated with stigma, and residing outside of the capital city and positively associated with female gender. None of the time perspectives were associated with help-seeking. The results are discussed regarding the importance of mental health in Hungary.

Celem pracy jest zaprezentowanie koncepcji biogospodarki od strony teoretycznej i praktycznej. Przedstawiono sposoby definiowania pojęcia, istotę biogospodarki, przesłanki jej rozwoju, teoretyczne i praktyczne korzenie biogospodarki, rozwój historyczny w Europie, w Stanach Zjednoczonych, rozmiary wyrażone w wielkości produkcji i zatrudnieniu. Omówiono powiązanie biogospodarki z koncepcjami teoretycznymi agrobiznesu, gospodarki żywnościowej, dyfuzji innowacji i teorią rozwoju zrównoważonego. Wykazano także jej powiązanie z treściami rozwoju regionalnego. Z drugiej strony, wykazano powiązanie koncepcji z praktyką programowania strategii rozwojowych oraz realizacją polityk branżowych w Unii Europejskiej. Zaprezentowano zarys europejskiej strategii rozwoju biogospodarki, jej filary oraz plan działań na rzecz biogospodarki. W zakończeniu wskazano na kierunki i znaczenie biogospodarki dla rozwoju sektorów gospodarczych, rozwoju regionalnego i badań naukowych.
The paper presents the theoretical and practical view on the concept of bioeconomy. It presents methods of the term’s definition, the idea behind it, reasons for its development, its theoretical and practical roots, historical development in Europe and the US and its volumes expressed in production and in employment levels. The paper discusses the links between bioeconomy and the theoretical concepts of agribusiness, food economy, diffusion of innovation and sustainable development theory. Its connections to regional development issues were also demonstrated. Additionally, the paper shows the concept’s connections to the practice of programming development strategies and implementation of sector practices in the European Union. The author also presented the outline of the European strategy for bioeconomy development, its pillars and action plan for bioeconomy. Finally, the paper indicates the directions and significance of bioeconomy for development of the sectors of the economy, regional development and research.

Dealing with the legacy of the discourses of neo-liberalism and new managerialism on the current framing of leadership discourse provides the background to this paper. Increasingly there are strong indications at policy level that the intention of recommendations are very closely aligned to the neo-liberal worldview evidenced by the uncritical acceptance of neo liberal infused language among many key stakeholders. This paper calls for leadership development programmes that will provide for critically informed and engaged leaders who can position themselves as key mediators and evaluators of these reductive policy proposals. To this end it is necessary to make leadership and what constitutes leadership practice more explicit and to cease confl ating it with management so that the knowledge and understanding of leadership within the domain of education can develop fully. This process creates an imperative for a greater engagement with the theoretical fi elds and disciplines linked to education within leadership preparation and development programmes with more encouragement for leaders to continue to masters and doctoral levels so as to build capacity within the leadership community to mobilise the rich and diverse knowledge-base underpinning education to critique and challenge.

This paper reports on the results of interviews conducted with ESP teachers examining their attitudes towards different aspects of online language teaching. The aim of this case study is to investigate how confident the teachers feel while teaching online in synchronous mode and to examine whether this emotive attitude is in correlation with their prior experience in both formal and informal online environments. It also aims to establish correlations between the respondents‘ attitudes towards the degree of difficulties and challenges pertaining to teaching all language skills in an online education context. The findings derived from the analysis of the respondents‘ answers point out to the need to investigate the possibilities offered by digital technologies in order to help learners enhance their language skills and competencies.

Towards new perspectives in terminology research in Poland Terminology as a discipline of linguistics is developing in dynamic and diverse ways in Francophone countries. The multiplicity of ideas is the result of the gap between the onomasiological approach proposed by Eugen Wüster, the founder of modern terminology and the semasiological approach defended by linguists for whom not the notion, but the term is the main subject of terminology. The author proposes to reconcile these two methods needed for terminological research in the full sense of the word. In this way she contributes to the development of terminology in Poland through the proposed methodology, as well as the subject of study which is the denomination of the conceptual structure ‘family’ in French and Polish.

Making optimal decisions in the context of economic integration with the European Union requires a creation of the harmonized information system within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. Therefore, the official statistics plays a more important role in questions related to improvement of statistical methodology, establishment of information resources, development and implementation of the common standards of statistical data provision and sharing. It is evident that such an information system must be created with consideration for capacities of national statistical systems of the Eastern Partnership member countries. Presently, the cooperation between the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Statistical Office of the European Communities has become fairly stable. The Belstat regularly provides the statistics on the following topics: foreign trade, demographics and annual data reflecting socio-economic development of the country (Eurostat questionnaire for countries with economies in transition). The global assessment of Belarusian statistics, carried out in 2007 by Eurostat, showed that Belarus has a comprehensive, consistent, and well established statistical information system which includes all statistical domains allowing for provision of comparable data in most areas. One of the possible directions for developing the information sharing and creation of the harmonized information system is the use of SDMX international standards (sharing of statistical data and metadata) which are used in the European Statistical System and define a general information model, technical specifications and formats of structured aggregated statistical data and metadata. Today, within the framework of the State Programme of Creation of the Integrated Information System of State Statistics of the Republic of Belarus, organizational and technical solutions designed to maintain a common metadatabase and a summary information database are under development, with XML format used for data presentation.Based on Eurostat’s experience of development and implementation of standards, the creation of the harmonized information system within the European Partnership must include stages for analysis of national information systems, employed approaches to metadata structure description, definition of techniques for data conversion in order to meet requirements of technical part of the standard, development of appropriate software for conversion. It is evident that the creation of the harmonized information system within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, first of all, requires a detailed coordination between statistical offices of the programme’s member countries.

A reading of many recent publications shows that theoretical concerns in the field of linguistics have declined, even though the founders of the discipline all emphasised the central importance of its role. This article aims to show how linguistic description has progressed thanks to the different theoretical tools that have been developed in the course of research. From this point of view, this article illustrates the following facts: lexicon, semantics and syntax are not separate instances but together form the units that are sentences. The elements of sentences must be described in terms of the set of properties that characterise them. This is the case for regular sequences. Finally, one of the promising objectives consists in finding a reasoned classification of fixed sequences. Linguistics, like any science, cannot do without theoretical tools.

The paper presents results of research on patterns and models of behaviour of young couples in antenuptial period. The research conducted in 1983 covers 154 young couples living in Łódź. The paper aims at determining factors which influence successful marriage life of young, urban couples. Ihe following ones have been taken into account: level of maturity of partners, homogamy of matching, course of the antenuptial period, social and material conditions (families of origin) of start to marriage life, marriage and family models of the generation of the 80-ties and the level of mutual recognition and adjustment of partners before marriage. The obtained results show that difficult material conditions and the low level of mutual recognition and adjustment before marriage are the main sources of failure in the future marriage life. On the other than, autonomy and homogamy of choice of partners seem to be the prerequisites of success in marriage. An analysis of the marriage life of the couples in question has been undertaken recently, and it is hoped that it will check the relevancy rif the propounded theses and conclusions.

Even though Fr. Janusz Stanisław Pasierb’s essay books enjoyed considerable popularity already during the author’s lifetime and they account for a sizeable portion of his writings, they have not been a subject of a separate study yet. Recently published Ars, fides et ratio. Esej teologiczny? (Tischner – Pasierb – Szymik) (Siedlce, 2012) [Ars, fides et ratio. A theological essay? (Tischner – Pasierb – Szymik)] by Aleksandra Pethe awakens hope for a revival in interest in Fr. Pasierb’s essays. The book itself contributes very little to the research on the writer’s essays, however it does pose important questions, among others on the mechanisms of the essayisation of homilies employed by Fr. Pasierb. It seems that other ways in which he transgressed various literary forms in the direction of theological essay deserve special attention. Fr. Pasierb’s writings remain open to state-of-the-art research tools and call for urgent investigation.

The paper presents the European Union’s approach to promote the advantages of short sea shipping as efficient and sustainable alternative solution to the global issues of road congestion. European Commission has made Short Sea Shipping one of the major priorities for European transport and maritime industries have made it one of their key areas for development. Short Sea Shipping plays an important role in reaching the objectives of the European Transport Policy, as it can help curb the forecasted substantial increase in heavy goods vehicle traffic, rebalance the modal shares and bypass land bottlenecks. In the paper are presented the advantages of Short Sea Shipping and the measures adopted by the European Union in order to better promote the use of this mode. Short Sea Shipping needs to be developed within an integrated and participatory approach, with the reliable involvement of stakeholders from the entire sector in order to fulfil its economic, commercial, social and environmental role.

The future accelerators need ion beams with higher charge state and higher current. This demand will be met by the “third generation Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Sources” (ECRIS) which will make use of improved plasma confinement by means of higher magnetic field and of higher microwave frequency, thus boosting the performance of nowadays ECRIS operating at the frequency of 14 and 18 GHz. The possibility to obtain confining fields exceeding 4 tesla, by means of special design of NbTi superconducting magnets, open the way to a new operational domain, at the typical frequencies of gyrotrons, above 28 GHz, with plasma densities never achieved before in ECRIS (1013 cm–3 and higher). The test of SERSE at 28 GHz, confirming the theoretical frame on which the third generation ECR sources design is based, will be presented; a synthetic review of the new generation ECRIS is carried out, with a particular emphasis on the design of the GyroSERSE source. Finally, the scheme of an innovative hybrid source will be outlined and a short description of the ECLISSE (Electron Cyclotron Resonance ion source Coupled to a Laser Ion Source for charge State Enhancement) experiment is hereinafter presented.

Prowadzenie gospodarstwa agroturystycznego ma nietypowy, oryginalny charakter, co wynika ze specyfiki prowadzenia gospodarstwa rolnego. Oczekiwania kwaterobiorców przyjeżdżających na wieś są różne. Jedni preferują kulturę regionu, kontakt z przyrodą, inni poznanie tradycji czy pracy na roli. Celem artykułu była ocena stanu rozwoju agroturystyki w kontekście nowych trendów i rozwiązań w krajach UE. Autorki przyjęły założenie, że agroturystyka jest formą wypoczynku, która na rynku turystycznym ma charakter niszowy. Gospodarstwa agroturystyczne w Polsce funkcjonują w przestarzałym modelu rozwoju. Stąd bierze się pilna potrzeba wprowadzenia nowego modelu rozwoju agroturystyki do funkcjonowania gospodarstw agroturystycznych.
Running agrotourism farm has an unusual, original character, which comes from specificity of running farmstead. Expectations of guests coming to countryside are different. Some prefer regional culture, others contact with nature, getting to know local traditions or working on a farm. The goal of the article was to evaluate the state of development of agrotourism in contest of new trends and solutions in EU countries. Authors have taken an assumption that agrotourism is a form of relaxation which has a niche character on touristic market. Agrotourism farms in Poland function in old model of development. This is why there is a great need to introduce new model of agrotourism development into functioning of agrotourism farms.
