    The article describes so-called mnemotopoi of Polish Protestants’ image of the past included in the language conceptualized into repeating forms. The term is related to E.R. Curtis and his concept of common places (loci communes).The conducted analysis allowed to distinguish between three forms of commemorating topic (or simply topoi). First of them has initial character and is connected with Biblical traditions, strong awareness of German roots of Reformation and with relationships with German cultural circle. Second of them is the topic of threat and harm, including also the topos of besieged fortress. The third is the topic of choice (e.g. the topic of salt of the earth) – cultural and religious superiority of Protestant countries saved in their historical memory. According to Evangelicals, the religious superiority means eliminating magic from religion.

    The author is reconstructing religious doctrines of salvation in Polish neopagan movements. Conclusions were drawn on the base analysis of religious declarations of different groups and the questionnaire survey. Neopagan texts put emphasis on the individual development made by members of groups, according to their own Slavic character. The role of self-sacrifice of individual is minimized. The questionnaire survey is showing that neopagans are rejecting the need of salvation. They understand salvation as the Christian idea, alien to the neopaganism. Subjects put emphasis on achieving the freedom by the individual member. For them most important goal of life is freedom and the independence.

    The register of churches and other religious organizations conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in 2020 indicated 168 positions, however, it does not differentiate recorded communities in any other way than chronological. Moreover, the oldest and the biggest of them, the Roman Catholic Church whose relations with the state are stipulated by the Concordat, and fifteen denominations whose activity is regulated by the separate acts, are not included in the register. The article is divided into two parts: the arranged by sections list of all churches and religious organizations that have entered into legal relations with the Polish state, and the commentary of this listing.The aim of the article is to recognize religious rules that lie behind a doctrine of each particular church or religious organization, as the very names of them often do not contain the information about their tenets. The key criterion of the division was religious doctrine. Organizational dimension and religious practices were taken into account as the distinguishing criteria only in cases when they constituted an essential differentiator of belonging and identity of a particular group. The list is the most current recorded knowledge about the religious minorities that came into legal relation with the Polish state.

    “Zbiór Pieśni” songbook
    Opis:
    In the 1930s, a songbook entitled “Zbiór Pieśni” (Collection of Songs) was published in Cieszyn Silesia. It is unique for two reasons. First, it is the only Polish cantional related to spiritist meetings during which it was used. Second, an analysis of its content reveals three interesting sources of ideational inspiration. One can find influences of texts by romantics such as Juliusz Słowacki and Ignacy Krasicki, inspirations from Protestant revival songs, as well as the impact of texts written by people ideologically connected with the editorial office of Hejnał Publishing House. The latter were spiritual seekers reinterpreting Christianity in a non-confessional way, inspired by esoteric currents of culture, such as modern gnosis, theosophy, etc. The article analyses the content of the songbook as well as the editorial interference in the published texts, showing it as an example of an important but “suppressed” (Hanegraaff) area of culture in Poland at that time.

    Na przykładzie konfliktów wokół Miesięcznic Smoleńskich z 2017 r. Autor omawia problem uwzględniania w sprawach toczonych z art. 196 Kodeksu karnego (dot. obrazy uczuć religijnych) tradycji polskiej kultury religijnej. Stosując jako analogię zasadę „obrony z kultury” (cultural defense) Autor przywołuje historyczne korzenie polskiej tradycyjnej religijności, której główne cechy ukształtowały się w dobie baroku (sarmatyzmu). Jedną z najważniejszych cech tej religijności jest ścisłe połączenie sfery religii i polityki. Brak państwowości w okresie zaborów i PRL wzmocnił, podobnie jak w kulturze diasporalnego judaizmu, związek między religią i pozareligijnymi dziedzinami życia. Autor sugeruje rozważenie czynnika kulturowego podczas analizowania spraw o obrazę uczuć religijnych, które współcześnie rodzą się z powodu kurczenia się dominującego charakteru tego typu kultury. Zderzenie się jej z liberalnym i lewicowym dziedzictwem oświecenia (które determinuje współczesną kulturę prawną Polski) doprowadza do licznych konfliktów, które polegają na narastaniu różnic w zakresie wrażliwości symbolicznej i postrzegania fundamentów aksjologicznych Państwa. Różnice te ilustruje Preambuła do obecnej Konstytucji.
    Drawing on the example of the conflicts around the monthly Smolensk commemorations in 2017, the article discusses the issue of taking into account the tradition of Polish religious culture in cases pursued under article 196 of the Penal Code. Using the rule of cultural defense as an analogy, the Author recalls the historical roots of traditional Polish religiosity whose main features crystallized in the baroque (Sarmatism) era. One of the most important features of this religiosity is the close connection between religion and politics. The lack of statehood in the period of partitions and during the communist times enhanced, in a similar way to the diasporic culture of Judaism, the interconnections between religion and secular spheres of life. The Author suggests taking into account the cultural factor when analyzing cases pertaining to offending religious feelings that arise nowadays as the dominant character of traditional religious culture is being undermined. The clash between traditional culture and the liberal and leftist heritage of the Enlightenment (which determines contemporary Polish legal culture) has led to growing divergences in the symbolic sensitivity and perception of the axiological foundations of the State. The preamble to the 1997 Constitution illustrates these divergences well.

    The image of Protestantism in Jerzy Pilch’s prose The article contains an analysis of Jerzy Pilch’s work and focuses on the leitmotif of his work, which is Protestantism. He reviews the presence of Evangelical motifs at various levels of the literary text – in lexicon, topics, and also at the level of axiology. The author of the text suggests to recognize a different truthfulness of the portrait of Polish Protestantism. Not literal, but literary truth, which is hidden under stylistic clues such as hyperbole (exaggeration) or periphrase (extensive discussion). It gives the aesthetic pleasure of reading combined with a cognitive experience.

    Based on the analysis of the new spirituality movement, the paper seeks to discuss the concept of sacred and its defnition. In the light of research on new forms of religiosity, this classical for religious studies term demands reformulation. Dichotomies and concepts that used to be indissociable from the defnition of sacred, such as taboo, tremendum or supernaturality, are disappearing from texts and testimonies of the contemporary new spirituality movement. One can therefore reject the analyzed term as useless for the description of contemporary spirituality, or recognize efforts to change an individual’s life made in the name of personal values and subjective well-being, as having the sacred dimension.

    Artykuł jest poświęcony językowym środkom perswazji używanym podczas ewangelizacji w Kościele Zielonoświątkowym, największej polskiej wspólnocie eklezjalnej należącej do charyzmatycznego nurtu ewangelikalizmu. Analiza autorów skupia się na praktyce tzw. składania świadectwa, czyli publicznie wygłaszanej opowieści, której głównym tematem jest jego droga do Boga, okoliczności i skutki nawrócenia. Pełnią one w zielonoświątkowym nabożeństwie funkcję ewangelizacyjną stąd liczne zabiegi perswazyjne, które autorzy artykułu rekonstruują na podstawie analizy 78 współczesnych świadectw wiernych Kościoła Zielonoświątkowego.
    The article is devoted to the language persuasion measures which are used during evangelization in the Pentecostal Church, the largest Polish ecclesial community belonging to the charismatic wing of evangelical movement. The analysis of the authors’ article focuses on the practice of so called giving testimony, which is publicly given story that main theme is the way to God, the circumstances and consequences of conversion. They perform evangelizing function in pentecostal devotion, hence the numerous persuasive treatments, which the authors of the article reconstruct on the basis of 78 contemporary testimonies of the faithful of the Pentecostal Church.

    Artykuł podejmuje się związków między stroną kulturową, a prawną współczesnych kontrowersji wokół życia mniejszości muzułmańskiej we Francji. Autorzy dokonują tego opisu na tle dziejów mniejszości muzułmańskiej w tym kraju, oraz rekonstruują zróżnicowane znaczenia zasłaniania twarzy przez kobiety w świecie islamie. Przedstawiają historię francuskich muzułmanów oraz ich starania o wyłonienie wspólnej reprezentacji do dialogu z władzami świeckimi. Opisują skomplikowaną sytuację w działającej obecnie Francuskiej Radzie Kultu Muzułmańskiego, która pełni tę funkcję. Analiza skupia się przede wszystkim na przedstawieniu znaczenia noszenia chust muzułmańskich przez kobiety (arabski hidżab, perski czador, turecki czarczaf i in.). Podczas analizy prawnej opierają się na oryginalnych tekstach orzeczeń francuskiego sądownictwa w głośnych sprawach wokół noszenia burek w przestrzeni publicznej (np. w szkołach). Autorzy przypominają główne akty normatywne dotyczące zakazu noszenia burek we Francji, a jako przykład dokładniej omawiają najsłynniejszy chyba kazus: Dogru przeciwko Francji, który zakończył się wyrokiem Europejskiego Trybunału Praw Człowieka w Strasburgu z 04.12.2008 r. Sprawy te są tłem dla narastającego napięcia etniczno-religijnego między francuskimi muzułmanami, a rdzennymi Francuzami i rozjaśniają ograniczenia i przeszkody rządowego programu asymilacyjnego. Artykuł stara się wyjaśnić stanowiska tego jednego z najpoważniejszych konfliktów społecznych współczesnej Francji.
    The article deals with relationships between the cultural and legal sides of current controversies concerning life of French Muslim minority. Authors describe them against the background of history of Muslim minority in that country and they reconstruct the variety of different meanings of hiding the face by women in Islamic world. They present the history of French Muslims and their effort to create their representation that would be able to conduct a dialogue with secular authorities. They describe a complicated situation in the French Religious Cult Council which performs the function mentioned before. The analysis concentrates mostly on presentation of the meaning of wearing the Muslim kerchiefs by women (Arabic hijab, Persian chador, Turkish charshaf and others). During the legal analysis they use original verdicts of French courts in controversial issues concerning wearing burqas in public (e.g in schools). Main normative acts regarding ban on wearing burqas in France are reminded, as an example authors use probably the most famous casus: Dogru vs. France wich finished with the verdict of European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg from December 4th 2008. Those cases are the background for increasing religious and ethnical tension between French Muslims and native Frenchmen and they clarify limitations and obstacles in governmental assimilation programme. The article tries to explain attitudes of one of the most important social conflict in contemporary France.
