Opis:
The paper is an analysis of the category of political thought as an element of the research field of political science. The attention focuses on three issues: 1) the concept of political thought and the conceptual network related to it; 2) fundamental sources, methods and techniques adequate to research on political thought; 3) a historiography of political thought and the development of the ways to analyze political ideas. The concept of political thought enjoys a status of an autonomous notion in the language of political science. It is constituted by all kinds of reflection on political reality, irrespective of the degree of their development, internal coherence or systemati-zation as well as of the degree of their theoretical advancement and specification. It origins as a result of political thinking. It cannot be reduced to notions such as ideology, doctrine, conception, programme, ideas, a set of values and political princi-ples or be properly defined by the recurrence to these notions. Neither does it constitute an intermediate link in the categorical chain between ideology and doctrine. Both ideas and programmes, as well as ideologies and doctrines are constitutive elements of poli-tical thought. The present author assumed that political views do not have to relate directly to politics, institutions of power or a political regime as long as they exhibit political features. In the structure of political thought the following strata can be distinguished: ideological, conceptual and pragmatic which are hierarchically interdependent. To develop a political thought is the only way for any political subject to find an answer to many fundamental questions, to define goals which make public activity meaning-ful, to delimit political facts in the reality and to group them into relationships and to distinguish the political subject – in existential terms – from other participants of social life. In the political thought of the XX century one can see the evolution concerning types of ideas dominating the political thought – from the classical political phil-osophy to a reflection related to optimal political decision-making in given circum-stances. The breakthrough occurred around the half of the XX century when political subjects in their idea-making activities ceased to focus exclusively on precise defini-tions of visions of an ideal order based on a single, true and universal principle and engaged themselves in pragmatic controversies concerning the nature of particular solutions and the organization of the process of decision-making, that is concerning political engineering. There follows from the above points that exclusive focusing in research on analyses of political activities and their results without taking into consideration the views of politically oriented communities and decision-making centers representing them, would make it impossible for political science to fulfill its basic functions effectively (from the descriptive to the instrumental one)*. Therefore we attribute such an important role to the proper methodological organization of research on political thought which still suffers from three visible shortcomings affecting the cognitive process in numerous ways: 1. a weakly developed methodological reflection on the notion of political thought and the conceptual network related to it 2. little cognitive interest in the sources, methods and techniques proper to re-search on political thought 3. lacking scientific investigations in the historiography of political thought and the development of ways to analyze political ideas.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present and analyze the development of university po-litical studies in Poland with a special focus on the period of the III Republic. A histori-cal overview of the tradition of political science in Poland and in the Polish lands in the period of partitions, starting from the XV century constitutes an introduction to the topic. The significance of Jagiellonian University, Vilnius Academy, Lvov Jesuit Acad-emy, The Knights Academy, universities in Cracow, Vilnius, Lvov, Warsaw, the Warsaw School of Political Sciences and others is pointed out. The beginnings of the formation of political science in the period of the People’s Republic of Poland since the half of the 1960s, including the contribution of the Polish Society of Political Sciences to the matter and the pioneers of the Polish political science is presented. The main body of the paper is constituted by the presentation of the institutional development of chairs, institutes and faculties of political (or social) sciences at the state schools of further education (currently, 14 university schools and 5 other state schools). It includes numerous tables showing an increase in the number of students and teaching staff in political science until the academic year of 2002/2003. In a synthetic manner, a dynamic, albeit not devoid of shortcomings, development of university studies in political science at public schools of further education (currently, 34 schools) is shown. The paper is concluded with an overview of scientific journals dedicated to political science which are published both by the state and public schools.

Opis:
One of the characteristic features of modern world are migrations of people. They are caused either by social or economic and political reasons of respective states and regions of the world. Population processes constitute, at present, a global problem. In the consequence of population’s number fast increase and the irregular economic development of the world, they still remain as an actual research question. An universal regularity of present migratory processes is a decrease of birth rate along with improving the life conditions. The highest birth rate can be observed in the poorest countries. Depopulation tendencies occur, in turn, in economically developed countries. Apart from economic factors, the differences in population increase, are also influenced by social and cultural conditions of a certain region, and the evolution of political system and programs of ruling elite. Greatly diverse is also, so called, the “quality” of contemporary migration. It is presented alike by poor, uneducated people and highly educated specialists from different fields of social and economic life.

Terrorism in a contemporary world plays a vital role. It becomes more and more dangerous due to technical development and access to information on terrorist means and methods allows better communication between terrorist groups. Contemporary political terrorism characterizes variety and difficulty far more developed now then centuries ago. Terrorists are able to interfere into politics of different countries, using terrorism actions to achieve particular goals. The increase of conflicts and tensions on ethics, religion, ideology or sociology made it possible for terrorism to appear in new forms and become a solution for current global issues.

Opis:
Pierwsze dotyczy zależności każdego modelu teoretycznego od specyfiki dyscypliny naukowej, w której dany model powstaje, zaś drugie – konieczności dysponowania możliwościami analitycznymi (w perspektywie kreowania aktywnej postawy proekologicznej) w zakresie badania relacji miedzy opisem i normą.
The paper aims to show how essential it is that a model of ecological awareness based on political science and used as a concept emphasizing motivation for pro-ecological activities should be devised. In this connection, the author discusses the reasons for differences in the defining of ecological awareness, the range of correct usage of this category, and two theoretical models of ecological awareness: the ethical and the sociological. The analysis was made on the basis of two assumptions. While the first concerns the dependence of each theoretical model on the specifics of the scientific discipline in which it is formed, the other applies to the necessity of possessing analytical capabilities (with a view to creating an active pro-ecological attitude), that allow relations between a description and a norm to be elucidated.

Opis:
In this article the author is going to answer the question, that intrigues many researchers of international relations and political science – is it possible to build a grand theory explaining actions and behaviours of political, and international, entities? International relations are distinguished from other disciplines of science by its special character: they are polyarchic, plural, complex and impulsive. This is why we find here, exceptional in contrary to other, more mature disciplines, diversity of opinions and answers to the question – in what way international relations shall be build? Searching for the right answer the researchers of international relations have to cross borders of many disciplines, also using research methods of sociologists, historians, economists, lawyers, psychologists and anthropologists. There is a similar problem with political science, as the political matter is widely interpreted and, depending on the researcher and the analysed political system, its scope is wide as when using so called largo sense in the totalitarian states, where even the choice of school for a child has a political character or as when using so called strict sense in the democratic systems.

Opis:
The author is considered to have been a forerunner of political culture studies in Poland. Our knowledge of the beginnings of political culture studies and historical political science is incomplete with the most widely known approach to it being the legal one. The writers, including J. Siemieński, analysed systemic institutions, the way they operate as well as Poles' involvement and the role they played in them. At the turn of the XIX and XX century polemics concerned causes for the fall of the Noblemen's Polish Republic – one of the focal issues around which revolved the effort of Polish humanists. It was reflected both in science and political journalism. Józef Siemieński took part in the disputes of that period. His first writing, the work of the young researcher remaining within the Warsaw milieu, dates back to 1907. He started a polemic with the renowned 'Cracow school of history', successfully joining the 'optimistic' stream of historiography. The questions of understanding of the term 'political culture' were developed by the author in further published works, included in the series entitled Nationality Issues, issued in Polish Weekly in 1912. The term political culture as 'the legal-national ideal' appears in the texts. The author referred it to the context of the nation and the state, indicating the role of political culture in building national awarness, not only of Polish people, but also of Lithuanian, Belarussian, Ukrainian and Jewish populations.

Terrorism is one of the greatest threats to contemporary civilization. The incidents that take the form of terrorist attacks occur in the territories of many countries, and they diff er not only in motives and methods, but also in realization measures. These incidents continue to grow in numbers and escalate. In fact, terrorism paralyses huge masses of people and causes harm to the proper functioning of democratic countries, especially their economic, social and political institutions. Rich countries are as much affected by it as those plunged in economic crises. Because of globalization, terrorists may freely travel around the world unnoticed by the most advanced identification systems.
