    Opis:
    The aim of the article is to analyse Norwid’s historiosophical reflections on Russia, in which the key role is played by metaphors based on the relationship between the “form” and the “content”. This metaphoricity is reflected in the popular motif in the poet’s works, which considered the relationships of the “word” – the “letter” and the “spirit” – the “body”. In the analysed fragments, mainly from the poem Niewola, tsarist, imperialist Russia appears as an empire of the “form”, which in this case is supposed to mean the dominance of formalism and broadly understood enslavement over the spiritual content. In Norwid’s eyes, Russia, similarly to imperial Rome, stands in a clear opposition to the spirit of freedom, nation or humanity. The poet’s vision reflects the popular trends in the 19th-century literature.

    Opis:
    The text discusses the meanings the poet ascribes to the words given in the title. The word element appears 61 times in his works. In most contexts (50 cases) the author understands the word in the same way his contemporaries do, that is in the meaning of “a group of people that constitutes a separate circle” (22 cases), “component” (18 cases) and “natural element” (10 cases). What is interesting, 12 times he uses the word element in the meaning that is not found in dictionaries, one pointing to “immediate situations, realities, circumstances, determinants (most often living or material ones)”. However, he does not use the word in the meaning of “beginning, beginner teaching, prime principles” or in the meaning of “natural element as the only condition for life” (Słownik wileński – Vilnius Dictionary); he also does not use the special meanings of the word element. The adjective elementary appears in Norwid's works 44 times, most often in the meanings recorded in dictionaries: “basic, fundamental, simplest” (28 cases), “teaching the beginnings, initial” (6 cases), “natural, primary” (3 cases). There are also such uses of the word, in which the poet, referring to the meaning “natural, primary”, enriches it with aspects that are not included in dictionaries. We encounter such a situation in contexts containing individual connotations, conventionalized at least as far as the poet's idiolect is concerned. The word elementary is not used in Norwid's works in the function of a mathematical expression. Also, it is not used in the meaning “being the cause of a natural element”. The way the poet understood the words element and elementary proves a modern character of his poetical language.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza historiozoficznych refleksji Norwida na temat Rosji, w których kluczową rolę odgrywa metaforyka oparta na zależności między ,,formą” a ,,treścią”, przekładająca się na popularny też w pismach poety motyw relacji ,,słowo” – ,,litera” czy duch – ciało. Carska, zaborcza Rosja jawi się w analizowanych fragmentach, przede wszystkim z poematu Niewola, jako imperium ,,formy”, co ma w tym wypadku oznaczać dominację formalizmu i szeroko pojętego zniewolenia nad duchową treścią. Rosja w oczach Norwida, podobnie jak imperialny Rzym, stanowiła wyraźną opozycję do ducha wolności, narodu czy człowieczeństwa. Prezentowana wizja poeta wpisuje się w nurty popularne w dziewiętnastowiecznym piśmiennictwie.

    The article attempts to present in a synthetic way (also in the axiological aspect) the editorial work of Juliusz Wiktor Gomulicki. The editions of Norwid’s ouvre prepared by Gomulicki, especially the first complete edition of the poet’s writings, were published mainly in the years 1944–1989. Undoubtedly, Gomulicki’s greatest editorial success was the full coverage of Norwid’s writings. However, there were also some flaws, such as the excessive “biographisation” of his editorial commentaries, erroneous readings and peculiar, in the literary sense, interpretations. Furthermore, Gomulicki marginalised Norwid’s activity in the area of plastic arts (cf. his lithograph Solo). Also his genological classifications and categorisations, which had a great influence on the layout and form of the corpus of Norwid’s writings, raise some serious doubts. Finally, it is also impossible to recognize the critical and scientific character of this publishing endeavour, which Gomulicki willingly and constantly stressed.

    The paper seeks to describe the image of the Holy Spirit in the writings of Cyprian Norwid. The description has been based principally on the analysis of Norwidian names of the Holy Spirit and their uses. In Norwid’s texts thatere four description of the Third Person of God (the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of History-Paraclete, and the Comforter), altogether 89 contexts. The Third Person of the Trinity is at the same time the Divine Person most rarely referred to by the author of the Vade-mecum. The Holy Spirit, revealed in secret, hidden under His manifestations, plays an important role in Norwid’s vision of reality. He is the maker of human fellowships, guardian of history, foundation of man’s improvement, giver of moral attributes, such as valour, love, and obedience, guarantor and pattern of freedom that ensures unification with God’s plans. He is also the agent of any activity and creative action.
