- Na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się oczywiste, że w XXI wieku nauki ekonomiczne powinny wiedzieć dokładnie wszystko o pieniądzu i jego naturze. Faktycznie dysponują one wieloma zaawansowanymi teoriami pieniądza. Jednakże wciąż nie są w stanie udzielić odpowiedzi na najprostsze pytania: co jest istotą pieniądza i jego wartości? Celem artykułu jest prezentacja podstaw elementarnej teorii pieniądza, która stara się wypełnić tę lukę. W ujęciu metodycznym artykuł przedstawia uproszczony model gospodarki towarowo-pieniężnej, na podstawie którego kolejno konstruowane są ilościowe ilustracje następujących problemów ekonomicznych: ceny barterowe, ceny pieniężne, zmiana struktury cen, deflacja, inflacja, innowacja produktowa (rozwój gospodarczy) i polityka gospodarcza. Wyniki badań pokazują, że pieniądz nie jest „sztuczną konwencją społeczną”, jak chciałaby cześć ekonomistów, ale jego użyteczność i wartość wynika z arytmetycznej zależności pomiędzy popytem na towary, ich podażą oraz bazą monetarną. Zatem wnioskiem z artykułu jest twierdzenie, że elementarna teoria pieniądza to paradoksalnie bardzo aktualny i wciąż definitywnie nierozpoznany obszar podstawowych dociekań naukowych w dziedzinie ekonomii.
