Opis:
As the number of people visiting national parks in Poland is constantly growing, it is important to recognise their varying motivations and preferences. This is particularly important in the most popular national parks, such as the National Park in the Karkonosze Mountains (KNP). KNP is visited by two millions tourists annually, which makes it the second most popular national park in Poland. The aim of study was to classify visitors of the national park in terms of their motivation to visit. Three main categories of visitors were identified: leisure seekers, nature lovers and active tourists. The category of leisure seekers was the largest and most diverse with respect to their preferences. Nature lovers knew a lot about the park, especially as regards its geodiversity and its fauna and flora. The number of active visitors keeps growing every year. Active tourism, especially in the KPN, requires advanced equipment and good physical fitness. The findings of the study tourism trends in mountain national parks and can provide insights for its management. The article ends with some predictions regarding future trends and changes in the classification of KPN visitors after the pandemic.

Tatra National Park
Opis:
Tatra National Park is the most frequently visited national park in Poland. During the peak season (summer), it attracts both ‘fully aware’ tourists, properly prepared for mountain hiking, and ‘casual’ hikers, motivated mainly by the shallow desire to ‘tick off’ the most popular places in the highest Polish mountains. The article describes the specific character of mountain hikers in Tatra National Park during the summer season, with particular attention paid to the motivations and skills involved in active tourism.

Opis:
Tourism is mostly concentrated in protected areas. The highest level of protection of nature and landscape represents national parks, which are important biosphere reserves. Tourism in national parks has to be developed with a thoughtful and considerate approach to the environment and in accordance with sustainable development values, which are based on economic, social and environmental principles. The object of the study is the Tatra National Park, whose task is to preserve and protect the original conditions of the natural environment in the protected landscape and utilise its potential for recreational, medical and sport purposes. In the last decade, the territory of the national park has been undergoing major innovations associated with the construction and improvement of tourism facilities. The aim of the article is to examine the sustainability of tourism in the Tatra National Park based on indicators developed by UNWTO (2004) in terms of visitors with an emphasis on social and environmental aspects.

Opis:
The quietness, defined as the near or complete absence of sound, in the context of the natural environment protection, may be considered a state in which no undesired of foreign sounds occur, and, by analogy to noise, analyzed in two aspects: that pertaining to measurements and the subjective one. The article discusses the lowest levels of sounds recorded at night in the soundscape of the Białowieża Forest. Due to low levels of the examined sounds and the technical problems that occurred while the sounds were being measured and registered, the acoustic examination of the measurement set-up in an anechoic chamber has also been presented. The research is aimed at defining precisely the concept of quietness prevailing in the nature in the subjective aspect by determining both the range of levels and the characteristics of preferred sounds.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the size of agritouristic accommodation base as well as its utilization in agritouristic farms located in communities with lands belonging to Białowieża National Park and Biebrza National Park. The study was conducted in 2010 and 2011 in 52 agritouristic farms (27 farms – Białowieża National Park, 25 farms – Biebrza National Park). The source data were collected via direct interview technique. The questionnaire form sent to the farms owners was used as the research tool. The data obtained in the study allow us to conclude that the accommodation base utilization indicator in analyzed farms was highly differentiated and was in communities of Białowieża National Park in the range between 1,64%-27,40%, and in communities of Biebrza National Park between - 0,68%-40,55%. The average value of this indicator in both analyzed regions was similar and amounted to 8,1% in Białowieża National Park, 8,9% in Biebrza National Park. The real participation of accommodation places in analyzed market – „market penetration” – in more than a half of farms was negative. The percentage of farms with negative value of this indicator was the same in both analyzed regions and amounted to 56%.
