Opis:
Improving the energy efficiency of large grinding mills is of great importance to reduce the energy cost of mineral processing. The ratio of SAG mill to ball mill’s energy consumption varies greatly among SABC operations. Thus far, very few research studies have been conducted to demonstrate how the SAG mill or ball mill responses to the change of circuit energy distribution in terms of comminution efficiency. The present study investigated the energy performance of an operating SABC circuit at variable circuit energy distributions. An energy benchmarking model was used to assess the comminution energy efficiency of SAG mill, ball mill, and overall circuit. It is found that the target SABC circuit achieves the highest overall energy efficiency when 37.6% of the total circuit energy is distributed to the SAG mill and 62.4% to the ball mill. The maximum energy efficiency of this SABC circuit is approximately 25% when compared to the minimum practical energy required to carry out an equivalent comminution duty. The study also showed that the ball mill is more sensitive to the variation in circuit energy distribution than the SAG mill.

Opis:
Andrzej Nadolski is regarded as one of the most distinguished arms and armor specialist in Europe. Studies over Polish weaponry taken just after World War II provided in 1954 a first in our continent monograph in this subject. Much contribution in this work was done in the field of knowing early medieval blunt weapon – hammer axes, battle axes and maces. Studies of early medieval arms and armor, taken by A. Nadolski, were a huge challenge, also because he included sparse information from the written, iconographic as well ethnological and linguistic sources. The main contribution of this research was however typo-chronological classification of collection of 172 hammer- and battle axes from the territory of Piast state. This system, used by Author in all of his further works, was widely accepted by many Polish archeologists, and is being employed, sometimes uncritically, until today. Due to the fact that the total number of known artefacts increase a lot (Fig. 1), and this classification cannot be developed, it seems that it is not possible to use this typology to all known materials from the territory of Poland. In the consequence of only 5 known artefacts, Author did not propose any classification for maces. From that time, known number of this kind of objects increased almost 10 times (Fig. 2), but most of them are chance finds, without any proper archeological context. Besides typo-chronological aspects, Author discussed also many other problems concerning this kind of weapon, including the presence of small holes in the axe and hammer-axe heads, their decoration, length of the shafts, distribution of particular forms. Nadolski demystify also claims of German researchers, who treated many forms of axes as so-called „Viking”, but having in fact their roots in the territory of Central Europe, and could have been produced by local blacksmiths, what was proven by metallographic examinations. Last years caused increase of interest also in the field of mace manufacturing, especially in technological context. This survey showed enormous meaning of Nadolski’s monograph for Polish arms and armour studies, and some ideas were developed also in further papers – eg. in the article concerned of symbolic destination of clubs. However, state of research caused that many aspects of blunt weapon was, for scholar from Łódź, unavailable. In case of all categories of blunt weapon a major step forward was made recently, thanks to the increase of number of known artefacts, as well as development of research in the neighboring countries. During the archaeological excavations conducted in the last 60-years, large collections of this kind of weapon were obtained, sometimes, like in the case of water finds, preserved in whole. This fact encouraged scholars for detailed specialist analysis. Due to discovering of wooden and leather cases, as well as relicts of textiles on the axe heads, some studies concerning the problem of preserving blunt weapon have been also recently taken. From today point of view crucial issue, caused by analogy of forms of some of the specimens regarded as heads of war flails and maces, is appropriate identification of artefacts. Increase of data caused also that it was possible to specify some aspects or make new hypothesis about origin and chronology of some of types of hammer axes, battle axes and maces, as well as decoration and symbolic meaning of these artefacts. It was also noted that maces were used not only in a hand to hand combat, but also as a throwing weapon. The only category of early medieval blunt weapon which was not included in any of A. Nadolski’s works, are war flails (kistens). Significant progress in case of these artefacts was made just at the beginning of 21st c. (Fig. 3). As most of the war flails were discovered in south-eastern territories of Poland, they were regarded as a result of contact with Rus mielieu, where they were most popular in the 12th-13th c. Specimens from the Piast’s state were found in important centers of ducal power and there are no proves whether they came there thanks to a trade or presence of duke’s mercenaries. The presented above review of early medieval blunt weapon clearly shows A. Nadolski’s significant contribution in specify of many of its problems. The monograph of early Polish weaponry, published in 1954, was a breakthrough work, which became, for many years, a „manual” for archeologists interested in arms and armour in Poland. However, the enlargement of number of known artefacts and increase of our knowledge about early medieval weaponry, caused that indiscriminate use of conclusions from this book is luckily impossible today. After almost 60 years since the „Studies...” was published, it is probably time for another attempt to recapitulate our knowledge in this subject.

Opis:
The knightly culture is an issue of the margin of science and, as such, becomes the object of research of medieval study, including archaeology and weapon study. Among these was undoubtedly the forerunner of Andrzej Nadolski. His research into knightly culture and popularization of knowledge about it was the result of attempts to interpret the material side of life of medieval knights, especially weaponry. Interests in knightly culture of the scholar became the result of a particular stage of development of Polish arts and research challenges facing Polish archeology erected from the forties to the nineties of the Twentieth century. In the initial period based on a top-down program of study of material culture of early medieval Polish state, Nadolski placed particular emphasis on the study of early medieval weapons. In his study of the early arms and armour from the Polish lands were, however, discussed the cultural role of the sword and the spear. Within a few decades of his professional activity Andrzej Nadolski has repeatedly argued that he was knowledgeable about the history and transformation of medieval chivalry, which were not in the center of his research interests. These interests were often the carcass of his analysis of clothing and armor shows on the images of kings and knights battle performances, and virtually all studies and the discussions weapons, archaeological sites (mote castles, battlefields) and medieval art of war, which came from his pen. Nadolski’s erudition in the field of knowledge of the culture of chivalry was most apparent in his popularization work. By moving into the issues such as the ethos of chivalry and its Christian inspiration, knightly rituals, martial arts of war and tournaments, heraldry and hunting. His work has become a precious tip for further indepth study as part of a modern, interdisciplinary paradigm practicing of historical archeology and weapon studies.

The paper reports the results of a physical modelling study of the production of a hypereutectic aluminium alloy to be used formaking an alloy vapour source for operation in the magnetron. Within the study, targets from a hypereutectic aluminium-silicon alloy were made in laboratory conditions. Thus obtained material was subjected to heat treatment, porosity analysis, and the assessment of the microstructure and fitness for being used in the magnetron. The process of melting the hypereutectic Al-Si alloy was carried out at the Department of Foundry of the Czestochowa University of Technology. The investigation into the production of the alloy vapour source for the synthesis of the dielectric material from the hypereutectic aluminium alloy has confirmed.

Opis:
Constantly developing production process and high requirements concerning the quality of glass determine the need for continuous improvement of tools and equipment needed for its production. Such tools like forms, most often made of cast-iron, are characterized by thick wall thickness compared to their overall dimensions and work in difficult conditions such as heating of the surface layer, increase of thermal stresses resulting from the temperature gradient on the wall thickness, occurrence of thermal shock effect, resulting from cyclically changing temperatures during filling and emptying of the mould. There is no best and universal method for assessing how samples subjected to cyclic temperature changes behave. Research on thermal fatigue is a difficult issue, mainly due to the instability of this parameter, which depends on many factors, such as the temperature gradient in which the element works, the type of treatment and the chemical composition of the material. Important parameters for these materials are at high temperature resistance to thermal shock and thermal fatigue what will be presented in this paper.

The structural and magnetic properties of three magnetron sputtered multilayers at the 2nd maximum of antiferromagnetic coupling were studied using $\text{}^{59}$Co NMR spectroscopy: [Co(20 Å)/Cu(20 Å)]$\text{}_{20}$, [Co(20 Å )/ Ru(18 Å)]$\text{}_{20}$ and a heterostructure, in which non-magnetic spacers alternated between Cu and Ru. Co/Cu interfaces were found to be relatively sharp, extended over 3 monolayers, while the Co/Ru interfaces extend over 6 monolayers due to the good miscibility of Co and Ru. The NMR restoring field in the heterostructure is found to be the average of the restoring fields in both reference samples.
