Celem referatu jest językowa analiza omawianych elementów fitosfery i ich wykorzystania w codziennym życiu kreowanych postaci.
The tradition of treating with the herbs, and the their usage in the procedures in the field of the magical rituals, lasted especially in the village societies. Repeatedly, they are mentioned by Wieslaw Mysliwski, who, frequently, sets the action of his novel outside the cities, and his protagonists appear to have the knowlegde and qualities indicating the abilities to use the herbs. The goal of the paper is the linguistic analysis of the discussed elements of the phytosphere and their usage in the characters’ everyday life.

Artykuł przedstawia proces twórczy Wiesława Myśliwskiego. Skupia się szczególnie na dwóch aspektach pracy pisarza. Pierwszy z nich Myśliwski określa terminem „bezradność owocująca”, to stan, który bezpośrednio poprzedza pisanie. Drugi określiłam jako „teorię pierwszego zdania”, a pojęcie to utworzyłam na bazie wypowiedzi pisarza. Artykuł zawiera analizę pierwszych zdań powieści Wiesława Myśliwskiego. Sygnalizuję możliwość zestawienia „bezradności owocującej” z innymi, choć podobnymi, koncepcjami procesu twórczego m.in. Emila Ciorana czy Sandora Maraiego.
he article presents Wiesław Myśliwski’s creative process. It is focusing especially on two aspects of the writer’s work. First of them Myśliwski calls “fruitful helplessness” (“bezradność owocująca”), it is a state which occurring immediately before writing. Another one I describe as “first sentence theory” – this term I created basing on the writer’s statements from the interviews. The article contains analysis of Wiesław Myśliwski’s novel’s first sentences. I point out the possibility to compare “fruitful helplessness” with other similar conceptions of creative process, incl. Emil Cioran’s or Sandor Marai’s.

The author of this essay searches for traces confirming the influence of cinema on Wiesław Myśliwski’s life and works. Despite the fact that the writer acknowledged his love for cinema, this aspect is overlooked in discussions of his oeuvre. Myśliwski himself also does not devote much space to it in his recently published collection of texts and interviews W środku jesteśmy baśnią. Mowy i rozmowy [We are a Fairy Tales Within: Speeches and Conversations] (2022). In this article, the author devotes special attention to film motifs in the novel A Treatise on Shelling Beans (2013), the cinematic imagination that is revealed in this book, and the role of history in Myśliwski’s work.
Autor eseju szuka śladów potwierdzających wpływ kina na życie i twórczość Wiesława Myśliwskiego. Mimo że pisarz otwarcie mówił o swoim zamiłowaniu do kina, aspekt ten jest pomijany w omówieniach jego dorobku. Sam Myśliwski również nie poświęca mu zbyt wiele miejsca w wydanym niedawno zbiorze tekstów i wywiadów W środku jesteśmy baśnią. Mowy i rozmowy (2022). W niniejszym artykule autor poświęca szczególną uwagę motywom filmowym w powieści Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli (2006), filmowej wyobraźni, która się w tej książce ujawnia, a także roli historii w twórczości Myśliwskiego.

Zijn romans, Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli (Over het doppen van bonen, 2006), Kamień na kamieniu (Steen op steen, 1984), Ostatnie rozdanie (De laatste hand, 2013) en Widnokrąg (De horizon, 1996) zijn door de bekende vertaler Karol Lesman in het Nederlands vertaald. Deze bijdrage bekijkt het werk van Karol Lesman en de receptie van de genoemde romans in Nederland. De boeken van Myśliwski warden enthousiast door de Nederlandse lezers ontvangen.
Wiesław Myśliwski is the best known Polish writer. His books, Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli (A Treatise on Shelling Beans, 2006), Kamień na kamieniu (Stone upon stone, 1984), Ostatnie rozdanie (Last hand, 2013), Widnokrąg (Horizon, 1996), have been translated into Dutch by a well-known translator, Karol Lesman. This research looks at both the work of Karol Lesman and the reception of the above mentioned works in the Netherlands. The books of Myśliwski were enthusiastically welcomed by Dutch readers.

Celem artykułu jest analiza dramatu Requiem dla gospodyni Wiesława Myśliwskiego w kontekście zagadnienia mowy pozornie zależnej (w ujęciu literaturoznawczym). Autorka omawia różne sposoby wykorzystania tej formy podawczej, zastosowanej przez Myśliwskiego w wypowiedziach pastucha Bolesia – wiejskiego szaleńca o niepewnym statusie ontologicznym. Analizując kwestie wypowiadanie przez tę postać, autorka wskazuje na trudności z wyznaczeniem wyraźnej granicy między mową pozornie zależną a bezpośrednim przytoczeniem słów tytułowej bohaterki dramatu – zmarłej gospodyni, z którą łączyła Bolesia silna więź. Dowodzi, że pastuch wyróżnia się spośród pozostałych bohaterów nie tylko w planie fabularnym, lecz także formalnym, ponieważ kompetencje kreacyjne (zdolność wywoływania obrazów) oraz językowe (tworzenie dwugłosowych opowieści w mowie pozornie zależnej) ujawniają metadramatyczny charakter tej postaci, a jej punkt widzenia jest uprzywilejowany przez podmiot dramatyczny.
The article analyzes the drama Requiem dla gospodyni by Wiesław Myśliwski in the context of free indirect discourse as understood in literary criticism. The author of the article discusses the instances of this form of expression used in the utterances of Boleś, a shepherd and country madman of an unknown ontological status. She notices the problems with distinguishing between free indirect speech and the direct quoting of the late titular landlady [gospodyni] with whom Boleś established a strong bond. The author demonstrates that the shepherd plays a significant role both as a part of the storyline and a formal element because his creative capacity (building images) as well as linguistic (creating a binarrative in free direct speech) reveal his meta-dramatic character and privilege the dramatic subject.

The word and truth philosophy hidden in the novel Kamień na kamieniu [Stone upon Stone] references the principles of oral culture. The author consciously, through mouths of his characters, delivers a peculiar lecture on word and truth, scored for many episodes – a treatise with a mindset rooted in the folk, pre-writing way of understanding of reality. In Myśliwski’s oral world, the know-ledge of the meaning of words is tantamount to the knowledge of the principles of existence among people. Under Myśliwski’s approach, tale telling is a kind of a spiritual journey to the most primordial existential experiences. The basic function of a word becomes the unveiling of the existential worry. Speech turns out to be a vehicle bringing out from human beings what really connects them. It is only the revealed worry that removes the obstacles separating the participants of a conversation, unveils their deepest identity and their common human fate. For the novel’s narrator, understanding is a kind of a final existential opening to the Other, is a co-experiencing of the Other.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie z perspektywy komunikacyjno-językowej wybranego słownictwa z powieści Wiesława Myśliwskiego Widnokrąg. Zmieniający się – wskutek dynamicznych procesów społecznych, gospodarczych i kulturowych – sposób porozumiewania się powoduje, że część leksyki wychodzi z użycia i pozostaje w pamięci tylko tych osób, dla których jest ważnym składnikiem tożsamości. Zjawisko to ma charakter uniwersalny. Przyjmujemy, że literatura jest podstawowym medium pamięci wspólnoty kulturowej, a leksyka w niej zawarta przekazuje wybrane obrazy życia, pomagając w ich zapamiętaniu lub poszerzając kompetencje odbiorcy o nowe elementy. Słownictwo kreujące obraz świata w powieści Widnokrąg rekonstruuje i reinterpretuje przeszłość zarówno u autora/narratora jak i u czytelnika. Wybrane z analizowanej powieści słownictwo zatrzymane w pamięci jednostki pokazuje rzeczywistość z perspektywy „małej ojczyzny”, umożliwiając czytelnikowi poznanie realiów toczącego się w niej życia, a co za tym idzie poszerzenie własnej pamięci.
The purpose of this article is to provide a communicative-linguistic perspective on the vocabulary selected from the Wiesław Myśliwski’s novel Widnokrąg. As a result of the changing ways of communication – caused by the dynamic social, economic, and cultural processes – part of the lexis goes out of use and only remains in the memory of those for whom it constitutes a significant element of identity. This phenomenon is of a universal nature. We assume that literature is a basic medium of memory of a cultural community, and the lexis contained in it transfers selected images of life, helping to memorize them or adding new elements to he reader’s competences. The vocabulary that creates the image of the world in Widnokrąg reconstructs and reinterprets the past both in the author/narrator and in the reader. The vocabulary selected from the analysed novel, retained in the memory of an individual, shows reality form the perspective of a “small homeland”, enabling the reader to know the realities of the life lived there, and thereby to extend his or her own memory.

A saxophone, a hat and some candles, or on objects in Wiesław Myśliwski’s “A Treatise on Shelling Beans” The present essay aims to bring into focus the role of objects in the narrative strategy adopted by Wiesław Myśliwski in his A Treatise on Shelling Beans. It focuses primarily on two aspects: on the object as a carrier of memory which nests history and on the object as an element constituting the identity of the speaker. The tale of the protagonist-narrator clearly distinguishes things which are the so-called memory anchors. They focus the novel, perform a retardative function, but also develop the story being told. A saxophone, a hat, a plait, candles or a fork – it is around those objects that the narrator circles, and they become carriers of meanings and memories, it is on them that rests the weight of individual human histories. They take on immense significance in the context of the past being narrated, but also project onto the present, built on the foundation of what has already happened, passed away, or what still lasts.

Pierwsza część artykułu poświęcona jest perspektywie zastosowania psychoanalitycznej kategorii perwersji – zrekonstruowanej głównie na podstawie pism Jacques’a Lacana i Gillesa Deleuze’a – do analizy patologii polskiej zbiorowej psychiki, jakie wytykają w swoich książkach Jan Sowa, Andrzej Leder i Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz. Naszym zdaniem kulturowy model Polaka to właśnie perwert, zależnie od pozycji klasowej – sadysta albo masochista, nie zaś psychotyk albo edypalny neurotyk. Kategoria perwersji pozwala wyjaśnić dwuznaczną relację polskości do państwa i prawa, która nie jest ani ich prostym odrzuceniem (jak psychoza), ani jednoznaczną afirmacją (jak nerwica). Struktura perwersji – rozpiętej zewnętrznie między nerwicą a psychozą, a wewnętrznie między masochizmem a sadyzmem – pozwala modelować dynamikę współczesnych polskich konfliktów ideologicznych i politycznych, w tym napięcie między akcentowaniem narodowej suwerenności a postkolonialnym odwoływaniem się do wzorów obcych. Części druga i trzecia to studia przypadków: zbiorowej psychiki bohaterów prozy eseistycznej Rymkiewicza oraz indywidualnej – Nagiego sadu Wiesława Myśliwskiego. Zestawienie to pozwala ukazać odmienność postrzegania tego samego fenomenu – sadyzmu – z wnętrza psychiki, która z pozycją perwersyjną afirmatywnie się identyfikuje (Rymkiewicz), oraz ze zdystansowanej perspektywy neurotyka (Myśliwski), zarazem jednak uchwycić izomorfizm struktur, które kryją się za tymi tak odmiennymi przedstawieniami.
The first part of the article investigates perspective of perversion employed in the analysis of the Polish collective psychology in its pathologies identified in books of Jan Sowa, Andrzej Leder and Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz. The category of perversion itself is reconstructed chiefly after works of Jacques Lacan and Gilles Deleuze. In our opinion, the cultural model of Pole is the pervert. Depending on the social class, he is a sadist or a masochist, as opposed to a psychotic or a classical Oedipal neurotic. The category of perversion allows for the explanation of an ambivalent relationship between the Polishness and the State; the relationship which is neither a simple rejection (such as a psychosis) nor an unequivocal affirmation (such as a neurosis).The second and the third part are case-studies: in a collective psychology of the heroes of Rymkiewicz’s essays and in an individual psychology of the heroes of The Nude Orchard (pol. Nagi sad) by Wiesław Myśliwski. This juxtaposition shows the difference in perception of the same phenomenon, i.e. sadism – the difference between the point of view from within the mind affirmatively indentifying with the perverse attitude (Rymkiewicz) and the distanced point of view of a neurotic (Myśliwski). It also allows for grasping the isomorphism of structures behind these twoperceptions.

W dialogu Myśliwskiego i Bocheńskiego tradycja, pamięć literatury i stosunek do własnych wspomnień, staje się raczej układem domyślnym, który odbiorca powinien sobie uświadomić, jeżeli zechce zrozumieć sensy rozmowy prozaika i historyka literatury.    
The aim of this study is a genological analysis of the duo-author book by Wiesław Myśliwski and Tadeusz Bocheński, Myśliwski-Bocheński. Important conversations in the context of the "new version" of "conversations with the writer" in the era of internet culture.The guide to the analysis is the question of how this publication engages in dialogue with the convention of "significant conversations" by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, an analyst of the discussion.I ask how the conversations with Wiesław Myśliwski problematize the reflection on literature and literary tradition, the writer's personal narrative and the communicative situation of the conversation.In Myśliwski's and Bocheński's dialogue, tradition, the memory of literature and the attitude towards one's own memories become rather a default system that the recipient should become aware of if he or she wishes to understand the meanings of the conversation between a prose writer and a literary historian.

The article focuses on the interpretation of the last novel written by Wiesław Myśliwski: Treatise on Shelling Beans (Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli). The author presents a biography of the hero – a musician and homo viator. The novel describes his life and its connections with Polish history in the 20th century. Above all, it presents reflections on the role of music in culture after World War II. In his Treatise on Shelling Beans Myśliwski performs anti-logocentric turn – music is created as a sphere of art which has a/the power of salvation: it could save a human life from destruction and could stop the destruction of rudimental senses which formed European culture.

The article attempts to show selected collections of professional vocabulary contained in the first three novels by Wiesław Myśliwski. Creating his characters and the world in which they function, the author used the vocabulary characteristic of occupations and activities related to the countryside and farm. The study is of little survey nature to outline areas for further analyzes of professional lexis in the writer’s novels.

The article offers the discussion of Wiesław Myśliwski’s Ostatnie rozdanie, which is developed along two perspectives. One is the author’s prosewriting, the other uses spatial aspect. Both perspectives depict the literary realm and the topographic representations of the main characters’ biographies. Myśliwski’s refined narrative style gradually evolves to become a vehicle for his pessimistic diagnosis of the human condition and our existence. Determined by historical, social and cultural factors, it invariably remains situated in the significantly arranged space.

The article examines a symbolic photograph described in A Treatise on Shelling Beans, a novel by Wiesław Myśliwski. In my interpretation the picture, which may have never been taken, is a visual catachresis, a signifi er of war trauma. Its depiction of an encounter between the victim of a pacifi cation and the son of the perpetrator can be treated as a wish projection and discussed from the perspective of two interrelated and complementary approaches – trauma and memory studies and the philosophy of dialogue. In practice, the discussion makes use of Aleida Assman’s ‘strategy of keeping silence’ and the concept of encounter, formulated by Emmanuel Levinas and developed by his Polish follower Józef Tischner.
