The aim of this article is to perform a basic research of source, i.e. decision of time, circumstances and place of origin, authorship and milieu in which arose the Prayer Book of Nawojka – one of the oldest monuments of the Polish language. The Prayer Book include prayers addressed to Mary, with motifs of Eucharistic and to different occasions. Sources those prayers may sight in other widespread in the end of fifteenth century libri precum: Hortulus animae and Antidotarius animae. This observation is not permit to associate the Prayer Book with any milieu. Presumptions on this subject presented in historiography are unjustified. On the basis of performed study and Franciszek Krček’s and Aleksander Brückner’s research about textual criticism and analysis made by linguists who dated language of the Prayer Book at the end of fifteenth century, author claimed that the Prayer Book of Nawojka is copy of a older manuscript formed at the end of fifteenth century. The manuscript of the Prayer Book was prepared in the 1st half of the sixteenth century and presumably it was used by nobility. It was drawn by a professional scribe. Probably the Prayer Book of Nawojka or the primary manuscript arose in Lesser Poland. It is estimated as a sophisticated literary.
Celem artykułu jest przeprowadzenie podstawowego studium źródłoznawczego, tj. ustalenie czasu, okoliczności oraz miejsca powstania, autorstwa i środowiska, z którego wyrósł Modlitewnik Nawojki – jeden z najstarszych pomników języka polskiego. Modlitewnik zawiera modlitwy adresowane do Maryi, z motywami eucharystycznymi oraz na różne okazje. Źródła tych modlitw można szukać w innych rozpowszechnionych, późnośredniowiecznych libri precum: Hortulus animae oraz Antidotarius animae. To spostrzeżenie nie pozwala łączyć Modlitewnika z jakimś środowiskiem. Prezentowane w historiografii odnośnie do tego domniemania są nieuzasadnione. Na podstawie niniejszego studium oraz badań Franciszka Krčeka i Aleksandra Brücknera dotyczących krytyki tekstu, a także analiz przedstawionych przez językoznawców, którzy datowali język Modlitewnika na koniec XV wieku, autor twierdzi, że Modlitewnik Nawojki jest kopią starszego rękopisu powstałego w końcu XV wieku. Rękopis Modlitewnika Nawojki został sporządzony w pierwszej połowie XVI stulecia i przypuszczalnie był używany przez szlachtę. Został on przygotowany przez zawodowego pisarza. Prawdopodobnie Modlitewnik Nawojki lub pierwotny manuskrypt powstał w Małopolsce. Jest on oceniany jako wyrafinowany literacko.

Artykuł jest poświęcony analizie innowacyjnej formy modlitewnika. Nadano mu bowiem formę artefaktu podobnego do leku. W ten sposób nawiązano do metafory modlitewnik to lekarstwo. Całość jest w analizach potraktowana jako kolekcja gatunków o niezwykłych konturach. Charakterystyka genologiczna obejmuje następujące typy wypowiedzi: zbiór tekstów na opakowaniu, ulotkę dla pacjenta, właściwy modlitewnik. Dwa pierwsze typy stanowią kontaminację gatunków użytkowych prezentujących lekarstwo i gatunków katechetycznych lub kultowych. Modlitewnik zaś nawiązuje do zmodernizowanych wersji gatunku. Całość (kolekcję komunikatów) autorka traktuje jako przekaz wystylizowany na reklamę, lecz w sensie komunikacyjnym nie gatunkowym. Zbiór różnorodnych komunikatów jest (jak reklama): atrakcyjny, sugestywny, zrozumiały i łatwy do zapamiętania. Postrzeganie modlitewnika w kategoriach leku i nadanie mu zewnętrznej formy medykamentu owocuje powstaniem nowej formuły gatunkowej. Kod gatunkowy modlitewnika został poszerzony i uzupełniony o nowe wyznaczniki. Dyskurs katechetyczny (obejmujący katechezę integralną) zyskał nowe nośniki perswazyjności przez odwołanie do dyskursu reklamowego.
The article is devoted to the analysis of an innovative form of the prayer book. It has been given the form of an artifact similar to the cure. In this way it implies a reference to the metaphor the prayer book is a cure. The entirety of the material is treated in the analyses as a collection of genres of unusual contours. The genre characteristics includes the following types of utterances: a collection of texts on a package, a leaflet for the patient and a proper prayer book. The first two types are a contamination of utilitarian genres presenting a cure and catechetical or cult genres, whereas the prayer book refers to the modernized versions of the genre. The author treats the entirety (a collection of utterances) as communication stylized to form an advertisement, yet in the communication sense and not the generic one. A collection of diverse utterances is (just like advertisements): appealing, suggestive, comprehensible and easy to remember. Perceiving the prayer book in terms of a cure and giving it the external form of the medicine results in creation of a new formula of the genre. The genre code of the prayer book has been expanded and supplemented with new exponents. The catechetical discourse (including the integral catechesis) has gained new carriers of persuasiveness by the reference to the advertising discourse.

It has been largely prayer books which helped to preserve faith and Polish culture in the Upper Silesia, Poland, as they often accompanied people throughout their entire lives. A considerable number of Polish sacred songs can be found amongst the Silesian collections of prayers and chants dated from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. They were mainly chorale books with lyrics, but also music scores in the form of pipe organ accompaniments. Since the beginning of the 20th c. there were two Upper-Silesian prayer books which gained widespread popularity: Droga do nieba (Way to Heaven) and Skarbiec modlitw i pieśni (The Treasure of Prayers and Songs), published in numerous editions, including those targeted exclusively at children and youth, and at the poor-sighted readers. On the occasion of the great jubilee of 2000 the collection of sacred songs with scores was published under the title Śpiewnik archidiecezji katowickiej (The Song Book of the Katowice Archdiocese). It was completed by a collection of organ accompaniments, Chorał Śląski (The Silesian Chorale) in a similar arrangement. So as to popularise more widely the repertoires of songs, the Katowice Publishing House of Księgarnia Św. Jacka developed a project releasing a collection of sole lyrics to songs, Skarbiec pieśni kościelnych (The Treasure of Sacred Songs). All editorial attempts so far, to have been aimed at enlivening liturgical gatherings, have greatly contributed to continuing the glorious tradition of the sacred singing in Silesia.

Opis:
On the first Sunday of Advent 2013 a new Catholic prayer book and songbook of the German language (Gotteslob Deutsch. The Glory of God, Praise God) was officially introduced in the life of the Church in Germany, Austria and in the diocese of Bozen-Brixen (Italy). The author of this publication presents first the story of the creation of a new book, replacing the previous from 1975, which has been assigned the task of facilitating the active participation all the faithful in the life of the Church, " in the glory of God and the salvation of people." Then the content of the new book was discussed, which consists of basic, common to the entire area of the German language, and the section for individual dioceses. The base part is divided into three chapters, the first of which is devoted to "the liturgy of the Church of the home" - prayers and rites festive of the family community.  In the second chapter, the three divisions contain 67 Psalms with melodies; then chants-songs: designed for every day, on Sunday, at various periods of the liturgical year and on: the life of God, in the world, in the Church. The third section of the second chapter is the litanies, which are given fifteen. The third section of the base part is entitled "Liturgical Celebrations" and contains texts of prayers and chants used in the celebration of the sacraments, sacramentals, liturgy of the hours, in celebrations of the Word of God and consider the various theological topics, including the Way of the Cross. The part designed for particular dioceses, beginning with the number 700, includes three parts: chants - songs, reflections on various theological topics and so-called. the tradition of spiritual (religious): diocesan calendar, the calendar of the saints mentioned in the liturgical year and the calendar of saints names, which according to the old tradition parents at the baptism imparted to their children.
W pierwszą niedzielę Adwentu 2013 roku w Niemczech, Austrii i w diecezji Bozen-Brixen w południowym Tyrolu na terenie Włoch został oficjalnie wprowadzony w życie nowy katolicki modlitewnik i śpiewnik języka niemieckiego (Gotteslob – niem. chwała Boża, uwielbienie Boga). Autor niniejszej publikacji przedstawia najpierw historię powstania nowej księgi, zastępującej dotychczasową wydaną w 1975 roku, której postawiono zadanie ułatwienia wszystkim wiernym czynnego uczestnictwa w życiu Kościoła „na chwałę Boga i dla zbawienia ludzi”. Następnie została omówiona zawartość nowej księgi, która składa się z części podstawowej, wspólnej dla całego obszaru języka niemieckiego, oraz z części przeznaczonej dla poszczególnych diecezji. W części podstawowej znajdują się trzy rozdziały, z których pierwszy jest poświęcony „liturgii Kościoła domowego” – modlitwom i obrzędom świątecznym we wspólnocie rodzinnej. W rozdziale drugim w trzech działach zamieszczono 67 psalmów z melodiami; następnie śpiewy-pieśni przeznaczone na każdy dzień, na niedzielę, na poszczególne okresy roku kościelnego oraz śpiewy o tematyce „życie w Bogu”, „w świecie”, „w Kościele”. Trzeci dział tego drugiego rozdziału stanowią litanie, których podano 15. Trzeci rozdział części podstawowej jest zatytułowany Celebracje liturgiczne i zawiera teksty modlitw oraz śpiewy stosowane przy sprawowaniu sakramentów, sakramentaliów, liturgii godzin, w nabożeństwach Słowa Bożego oraz rozważania na różne tematy teologiczne, w tym podczas Drogi krzyżowej.Część przeznaczona dla poszczególnych diecezji, rozpoczynająca się od numeru 700, zawiera trzy części: śpiewy – pieśni, rozważania na różne tematy teologiczne oraz tzw. tradycję duchową (religijną), kalendarz diecezjalny, kalendarz świętych wspominanych w roku liturgicznym i kalendarz imion świętych, które według starej tradycji rodzice nadawali swoim dzieciom przy chrzcie.

The article presents prayer books which have been in circulation since the Second Vatican Council. A classic prayer book has a fixed structure and a formative character as it transmits a re-ligious outlook on life. It usually contains utterances written down in a hieratic style with elements of an official style. Modern prayer books do not have a fixed structure, even though, they retain the form of a silva (a collection of diverse genres). Their formative character consists in, either letting different subjects (saints or other moral authorities) speak, or in taking into account the worldview of an intended reader. This may lead to far-reaching stylistic openness consisting in the introduction of forms which are typical of given addressees’ community. Modern prayer books may adopt a colloquial style (including low registers), while their hieratic nature disappears.

The aim of the article is to present one of the works of Fanny Neuda – the Jewish writer living in the second half of the nineteenth century in Moravia and Vienna. Her work - Stunden der Andacht was the first prayer book for Jewish women written in German by a woman, which was published several times, mostly with the Gothic fonts, but partly also with Yiddish and Hebrew letters.  Renouncement from prayers in Hebrew or Yiddish resulted, that authoress had to face the challenges of process of linguistic acculturation: not only choose (and change) the language and alphabet, but also translations of words not spoken openly in Jewish tradition (e.g. the name of God), or multimeanings Hebrew words. She preserved also the Hebrew names and dates of Jewish holidays. That illustrate the linguistic and religious diversity of German-speaking Jews. In addition, the prayers confirm the complex identity of Jews and the progress of liturgical reform and transformations of religious customs.
Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie twórczości Fanny Neudy – żydowskiej pisarki żyjącej w drugiej połowie XIX wieku na Morawach i w Wiedniu, a zwłaszcza jej dzieła – Stunden der Andacht. To pierwszy modlitewnik dla Żydówek napisany po niemiecku przez kobietę, wielokrotnie później wydawany, najczęściej gotykiem, ale także czcionką jidyszową i hebrajską. Odchodząc od modlitw po hebrajsku czy w jidysz, autorka musiała zmierzyć się z wyzwaniami procesu akulturacji językowej: nie tylko wyboru (i zmiany) języka oraz alfabetu, ale i tłumaczeń słów w tradycji żydowskiej niewypowiadanych (jak imię Boga) czy wieloznacznych wyrazów hebrajskich. W nazwach świąt i terminach religijnych zachowała hebraizmy. Obrazują one językową i religijną odmienność niemieckojęzycznych Żydów, ponadto potwierdzają ich złożoną tożsamość oraz stopniowe reformowanie liturgii i zwyczajów religijnych.

Opis:
The author analyses collections of texts included as inscriptions on religious pictures – miniature portraits of figures representing the domain of sacrum (e.g. Mother Mary or the Saints). Since these inscriptions are found in the same place and time, and they share their communicative function, they can be treated as representative of the same genre. A philological analysis of these texts shows them as manifestations of the convention of fixed prayer (this type of message makes a central and unalterable component of the collection). At the same time, the inscriptions under analysis also contain texts with a catechetical function which make the whole text play a role of a miniature version of a prayer book. Thanks to the inscriptions in question, private forms of religious rite are bestowed a proper form, while the contact of the faithful with the Saints are kept within the doctrinal limits. Philologically speaking, these inscriptions give insight into and help preserve the traditional variety of religious style.

W artykule szczegółowo omówiono mszaliki i modlitewniki dla dzieci i młodzieży opublikowane w Polsce w latach 1945-1949. W bibliografii zamieszczono 36 tego typu pozycji. Najwięcej z nich (22) ukazało się w latach 1947-1948. Teksty publikowały głównie wydawnictwa jezuitów z Warszawy i Krakowa (Wydawnictwo Apostolstwa Modlitwy) oraz wydawnictwo św. Wojciecha z Poznania. Aktywne były wydawnictwa na Śląsku, księgarnia św. Jacka w Katowicach i wydawnictwo św. Krzyża w Opolu. Wyróżnikiem tego gatunku jest wielofunkcyjność, łączy on w sobie różne formy przekazu. Prezentowany zbiór został podzielony ze względu na adresatów na: 1. Modlitewniki ogólne, dla wszystkich dzieci, ta grupa tekstów jest największa, 2. modlitewniki dla specjalnych odbiorców – np. ministrantów, członków organizacji i stowarzyszeń religijnych, np. Sodalicji Mariańskiej, 3. Wyróżniono modlitewniki publikowane osobno dla chłopców i dziewcząt, 4. jako ostatnią grupę opisano dwa mszaliki dla najmłodszych dzieci w wieku 3 oraz 4-6 lat.
The article presents in details prayer books for children and young people published in Poland in the period 1945-1949. The bibliography contains 36 such items. Most of them (22) were published in the period 1947-1948. Texts were published mainly by Jesuits’ Publishing Houses in Warsaw and Krakow (Publishing Apostolate of Prayer) and St. Wojciech Publishing in Poznan. They were active in Silesia publishing, bookstore St. Jack in Katowice and publishing St. Cross in Opole. A characteristic feature of this species is versatility, it combines various forms of media. The entire collection has been divided due to recipients: 1. general prayer books for all children (the largest group of texts), 2. prayer books for special audiences - eg. the acolyte, members of church organizations and associations, for example Sodalicja Mariańska, 3. Distinguish prayer books published separately for boys and girls, 4. as the last group there are described two prayer books for children ages 3 and 4-6 years.

Der Annaberg (Góra św. Anny) in Oberschlesien wurde zu einem Wallfahrtsort, zu dem die Menschen nicht nur pilgerten, um der heiligen Anna zu huldigen, sondern auch um an Kalvarienandachten teilzunehmen. Dies widerspiegelte sich u.a. in der Vielfalt und Anzahl der Gebet-und Andachtbücher, die seit Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts auf dem Annaberg ausgearbeitet, herausgegeben und im praktischen Gebrauch waren. Aufgrund der durchgeführten Untersuchungen konnten 84 Gebetbücher identifiziert werden, die durch ihren Inhalt, den Verlagsort und die Person des Verfassers mit dem Sanktuarium auf dem Annaberg unmittelbar verbunden sind. Bis auf den heutigen Tag sind 41 Gebetbücher erhalten geblieben; über die übrigen sind wir aus der einschlägigen Literatur informiert. 71 Bücher wurden auf dem Annaberg her-ausgegeben, 13 in anderen Verlagszentren, darunter in zwei Druckereien außerhalb von Schlesien (in Krakau und in Warschau). Die nationale Differenzierung Schlesiens fand auch in der Anzahl der heraus-gegebenen Gebetbücher ihren äußeren Ausdruck; 57 Bücher wurden nur in polnischer Sprache veröffentlicht, 15 nur in Deutsch, während 12 Gebetbücher in beiden Sprachversionen vorlagen. 22 Bücher wurden von Franziskanern verfaßt. Die meisten davon waren jahrelang mit dem Kloster auf dem Annaberg und mit den verschiedenen dort praktizierten Seelsorgeformen verbunden. 18 Gebetbücher wurden von Pfarrern schlesischer Kirchengemeinden verfaßt (Jan Chrząszcz, Ignacy Böhm, Józef Kühn, Norbert Bonczyk, Gustaw Majewski). 7 Bücher stammen von katholischen Laien (Eleuteriusz Siedziriski, Józef Kocyjan). Aber die größte Gruppe bilden die anonym veröffentlichten Gebetbücher - ohne Nennung des Verfassers wurden 37 Titel herausgegeben. Aufgrund der durchgeführten Untersuchungen konnte festgestellt werden, daß 30 Gebetbücher in Karol Estreichers Bibliografia polska nicht erwähnt sind. Die Gebetbücher vom Annaberg übten auf die Frömmigkeit der schlesischen Bevölkerung großen Einfluß aus. Den Annaberg besuchten jedes Jahr sehr viele Pilger, und er war ein Ort der Ausstrahlung geistiger Werte und religiöser Inhalte, die die jeweilige Epoche charakterisierten. Die Bewohner der schlesischen Städte und Dörfer brachten diesem Sanktuarium und den dort arbeitenden Ordensleuten seit Generationen große Verehrung entgegen. Dies kam äußerlich zum Ausdruck im Akzeptieren des geistigen Reichtums, dem sie an diesem Ort begegneten. Von ihrer Perspektive her gesehen besaß ein während des Aufenthalts auf dem Annaberg gekauftes Gebetbuch für den schlesische Pilger manchmal größeren Wert als alle anderen Gebetbücher. Es kam vor, daß ein solches Buch von einer Generation auf nächste überging oder aber der geliebten Person ins Grab mitgegeben wurde. Die Gebetbücher waren gewöhnlich in einer klaren, einfachen Sprache verfaßt, was einen großen Vorteil darstellte und ihre schnelle Verbreitung förderte. Sie erfüllten täglichen Leben der schlesischen Bevölkerung gewissermaßen eine Funktion der Festigung und Kontinuierung der Werte und Frömmigkeitsformen, denen sie auf dem Annaberg begegnet war. Die Gebetbücher vom Annaberg spielten mit Sicherheit eine wichtige Rolle bei der Verbreitung des Kultes des Leidens des Herrn, der Verehrung der Mutter Gottes, der heiligen Anna und anderer Heiliger in Schlesien besonders betraf dies franziskanische Heilige (den hl. Franz von Assisi, den hl. Antonius von Padua, die hl. Elisabeth von Ungarn, die hl. Rosa von Lima). Außerdem enthielten diese Gebetbücher Unterweisungen zum Erlernen religiöser Lieder und Gebete sowie zum Umgang mit den Sakramenten und dem Katechismus.

Zabytek, budzący zainteresowanie wielu badaczy, nie był dotąd szczegółowo opracowany. Autorzy artykułu ustalili, że zdobiące go miniatury zostały wykonane przez dwóch artystów brugijskich ok. 1415-1420 roku.

This article presents the biweekly Orthodox ,,Promyk Prawosławny” and Orthodox Prayer Book, that influenced the Orthodox community integration in Africa during II World War. Magazine and prayer was addressed primarily for Orthodox soldiers and civilians. They were issued by the Ministry Orthodox Military. Large involvement in his development father Michael Bożerianow caused that for 3 years was conducted catechesis among refugees.

The Book of Psalms is one of the most popular and most read Bible books. For over 2,000 years, both Jews and Christians — including Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox Christians — have been reading it. It is worth emphasizing, however, that this is not an easy book. It was created in a culture foreign to us, in a foreign language (Hebrew — biblical) — it was written by people with a different mentality than ours. Therefor to understand it, you need the right knowledge. Unfortunately, this can only be obtained at theological faculties. It is known, however, that not all Bible readers feel called to study theology. Many exegetes understand this and write comments for them on Bible books, including the Book of Psalms. One of these exegetes is Fr. professor Tomasz M. Dąbek, the author of the book: To pray with Psalms, which was published in 2019 in Tyniec–Krakow. He divided his dissertation into several parts, which he titled: Introduction (pp. 7–8), Psalter as a prayer book of the People of God of the First Covenant (pp. 9–44), Psalms in the New Testament (pp. 45–58), Psalter as a prayer book to monks, consecrated persons and clergy (pp. 59–68), Psalter in the liturgy and in the personal prayer of a Christian (pp. 69–74), Thoughts about some Psalms (pp. 75–94), Summary (pp. 95–96) and Bibliographic proposals (pp. 97–98). This review presents his book.

Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie zapomnianego dzieła Joachima Löisentina pt. Christliche Haußzucht…, które po 31 latach zostało opublikowane w 1655 r. przez Davida Friedricha Rhetego w Gdańsku. Zbiór ten, stanowiący połączenie modlitewnika, kancjonału oraz podręcznika wiary, przedstawiono jako komplementarny poradnik służący systematycznej i metodycznej katechizacji w duchu luterańskim w zaciszu domowym.
The aim of the article is to present the forgotten work by Joachim Löisentin, titled Christliche Haußzucht..., published in Gdańsk in 1655, that is 31 years after its inception, by David Friedrich Rhete. This collection, a combination of a prayer book, a hymnal, and a religious handbook, was presented as a complementary guide for systematic and methodical catechisation, in the Lutheran spirit, in the comfort of one’s own home.

Począwszy od zarysu historii kultu, w artykule ukazano różnorodność jego form. Omówiono następujące rodzaje modlitw ku czci św. Józefa: litanie, nowenny, szkaplerz, płaszcz, cześć nieustającą, miesiąc ku czci św. Józefa, telegram, różaniec i koronkę, godzinki, akty i oddania, pieśni, akatyst, a także inne modlitwy oraz nabożeństwa: siedmiu boleści i radości, septennę (siedem kolejnych śród), siedmiu niedziel, do Przeczystego Serca (pięciu pierwszych śród miesiąca), do opieki. Artykuł stanowi zachętę do osobistego praktykowania nabożeństwa do św. Józefa dostosowanego do indywidualnych potrzeb wierzących.
The ongoing year of St. Joseph is a great opportunity to have a look at the cult of the Saint in the light of the available prayer books. The article presents the diversity of the cult and discusses various forms of the worship since its beginning. It analyses prayers to St. Joseph such as: the litany, the novena prayer, the Rosary, the Oath, the Morning prayers, the Scapular prayer, the Akathist and other prayers, services and songs in honour of St. Joseph. The aim of the article is to encourage Christians to adapt the cult of St. Joseph to their individual needs.

Opis:
The article concerns the life and work of Tomas Cranmer and shows the process of maturing English Reformation and her complexity under royal leadership. Cranmer has contributed significantly to the reform of the English Church as a professor of the University of Cambridge and the Archbishop of Canterbury. He was very involved in matter the annulment of the marriage of Henry VIII. Over the years, he was climbing the ladder of increasing positions and dignity. He took an active role in discussions about theological differences between the conservatives and the reformers. He disciplined some reformers. He was the author of several books, which are aimed at improving reforms in the country. The largest participation of the Cranmer’s work in the English Reformation was the influence of the creation, edition and shape the Book of Common Prayer. As a part of his reform program he worked on the revision of canon law, a correction formula of the prayer book and formation of doctrine, which were ingrained in the Bible and the patristic thought. He argued about spiritual presence of Christ in the Eucharist. He cooperated with European and English reformers. He was charged with treason, found guilty and sentenced to death.
