Opis:
This paper reports on our experiences using datasets from the Visible Human Project in different biomedical applications. Introduced 1994 by the US National Library of Medicine the digitized multimodal anatomical datasets of the Visible Man have challenged the worldwide scientific community. A significant response to this challenge from several interdisciplinary research teams has emerged as a new area of research. This area requires close interaction and collaboration among anatomists, radiologists, computer scientists, mathematicians, engineers and physicians. The digitized volumetric images of the human body have been applied not only for the computer-aided exploration of the human gross anatomy, but also as structural input for the therapy planning and simulation systems. The importance of such virtual patient model is becoming increasingly recognized in modern medicine. To effectively use these specific datasets a sophisticated framework consisting of image processing, computer graphics and mathematical modelling methods is required. In this work various aspects of the developed framework are presented and discussed. Some preliminary results of our biomedical simulations are presented.

Opis:
Financial services firms, who understand the risk inherent in the marketing and turnover of financial products (such as that associated with setting limits on interest rates), implement risk management strategies that enable them to understand the restrictions imposed by the financial models that have been used. The purpose of the article is to analyse the relationship between the financial risk hitherto experienced on the market and the creation of an effective system of risk management. The firms in the vanguard, those who have brought in sophisticated risk management practices, are well placed to control risk and introduce warning markers that serve to bring the risk level to light.

Mathematical models describing aerial spraying and the distribution of liquid droplets on a target were presented. Relationships based on “free models” with Gaussian distribution of droplet concentrations and “bound models” that account for the impact of disturbances in the velocity field behind agricultural aircraft were expanded, and the hybrid model too. The results of experimental studies were presented and compared with theoretical calculations. The “bound model” was found to be the most effective solution for describing the physical phenomena that accompany the aerial spraying process.

Opis:
Urban planning has been simulated through various city-building games such as The Sumerian Game (1964), SimCity (1989), and Cities: Skylines (2015), amongst many others. Gaming technology has been utilized in 3D GIS, City Information Models (CIMs), and Urban Digital Twins (UDTs) to enhance public participation and engagement in the planning process. This article studies the overlap and ‘game-like’ qualities of these systems and presents an Urban Game Continuum. This interactive tool works in tandem with a taxonomy of city-building games and existing UDTs in order to assist with the design of future systems. A case study imported GeoData from Lancaster, UK, into a games platform. The continuum tool and case study offer new insights into opportunities for the utilisation of game design and gaming technology in urban planning and digital transformation. The article argues that the current use of gaming technology for real-world applications is one-directional and misses opportunities to include digital game design and research, such as mechanics, dynamics, flow, and public participatory world-building for future scenarios. By incorporating these elements, UDT systems could offer higher levels of citizen engagement.

Opis:
Recent development of SPICE, FEM and MoM software often requires the fast and reliable description of BH saturation magnetization curve. In spite of the fact that physical models of BH saturation curve are very sophisticated, for technical purposes, such curve may be modelled by simplified equations. Paper presents the quantitative assessment of the quality of four technical models of BH saturation magnetization curve performed for four modern magnetic materials: constructional corrosion resistant steel, Mn-Zn ferrite, amorphous alloy with perpendicular anisotropy as well as Finemet-type nanocrystalline magnetic material. Presented results confirm reliability of the model as well as indicate that high-speed calculation may be done using arctangent function.

The article considers the problems posed by the application of 3D simulation analysis to the modeling of production processes in surface mining. The issues here focused on include the possibilities of creating the representations of mining exploitation elements in a three-dimensional environment as well as the description of the influence that spatial characteristics of surface mines has on simulation processes. The paper also discusses the sense for employing simulation techniques in the design of surface mining production processes and presents the results of analysis performed for a model production system. In conclusion the advantages and disadvantages of the described solutions are compared and the perspectives for their further development and popularization are described.

Opis:
The article presents a proposal of a method for computer-aided design and analysis of breeding reservoirs in zoos and aquariums. The method applied involves the use of computer simulations of water circulation in breeding pools. A mathematical model of a pool was developed, and a tracer study was carried out. A simplified model of two-dimensional flow in the form of a biharmonic equation for the stream function (converted into components of the velocity vector) was adopted to describe the flow field. This equation, supplemented by appropriate boundary conditions, was solved numerically by the finite difference method. Next, a tracer migration equation was solved, which was a two-dimensional advection-dispersion equation describing the unsteady transport of a non-active, permanent solute. In order to obtain a proper solution, a tracer study (with rhodamine WT as a tracer) was conducted in situ. The results of these measurements were compared with numerical solutions obtained. The results of numerical simulations made it possible to reconstruct water circulation in the breading pool and to identify still water zones, where water circulation was impeded.

Opis:
This article defines the Autoregressive Fractional Unit Root Integrated Moving Average (ARFURIMA) model for modelling ILM time series with fractional difference value in the interval of 1 < d < 2. The performance of the ARFURIMA model is examined through a Monte Carlo simulation. Also, some applications were presented using the energy series, bitcoin exchange rates and some financial data to compare the performance of the ARFURIMA and the Semiparametric Fractional Autoregressive Moving Average (SEMIFARMA) models. Findings showed that the ARFURIMA outperformed the SEMIFARMA model. The study’s conclusion provides another perspective in analysing large time series data for modelling and forecasting, and the findings suggest that the ARFURIMA model should be applied if the studied data show a type of ILM process with a degree of fractional difference in the interval of 1 < d < 2.
