    The author of this work presents ideological currents which led to establishing, in the second half of the 20th century in Habsburg monarchy, a strong current of reformist ideology in the Church called Theresianism and Josephinism. The author describes Jansenism which appeared in the Netherlands and then in France in the 17th century,  Gallicanism, Episcopalism dating back to medieval Concilliarism and also Febronianism. These currents were established in different countries and led to the “The New Thinking” in Austria which resulted in the reforms carried out in relations between the State and the Church in Galicia. They had diverse character in the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II and were characterized by considerable radicalism.

    After the first partition of Poland, it was in the Austrian partition zone of Galicia that the Josephinistic legislation treated the priest as the civil servant. He was therefore charged with the duties to draw up and keep certificates typical of the civil registry office. In view of the previous absence of homogeneous practice in this area, the requirements laid down by the Austrian statutory law seemed to be advisable. The requirements referred in particular to baptism, marriage and death certificates. Those who were obligated to see to it that the entries be correctly made were the bishops on occasion of their inspection of parishes. Also the competitions for the Church posts, including those of the parish priest, were the manifestations of the control excercised by the administration over the priests, this being reminiscent of the medieval dispute referring to investiture. Also a series of detailed provisions referring to the Church area and concerned with the fire prevention, minerals obtained by mining or forest economy, were exponential of administrative dealings with clergy.

    After the rebirth of the Polish state in 1918 there were several post-partition criminal acts in force. Established in 1919, the Codifi cation Commission was to develop a uniform civil and criminal law. One of the tasks accomplished by the Commission was the substantive criminal law. The modern Code of 1932, developed among others by Julian Makarewicz, was one of the outstanding projects prepared by leading criminal law scholars of the interwar period. It comprehensively introduced the principle of nullum crimen sine lege. It included innovative solutions, including elements of the sociological school of criminal law, as well as a concisely regulated individual responsibility of the instigator and accomplice.

    Internal Legislation In The Order Of Knights Templar And Its Attitude Towards Criminal Offences Abd Violations Of Monastic DisciplineThe paper sheds light on a rather narrow aspect of the history of Knights Templar, analyzing it from the point of view of its internal disciplinary legislation. As an order grouping knights, in its statute, the Order made numerous references to discipline and the penal system. In the paper, the author characterized the various preserved copies of the Order’s Statute, out of which as many as 15 have survived until the present times; subsequently, he referred to the so called hierarchical statutes of the Order; among others, the latter defined in detail the disciplinary responsibility of Order members. On the basis of the above sources, the author divided the disciplinary measures into groups, beginning with the most restrictive ones and ending with the penitential and expiatory ones. He showed the types of offences which, when committed, threatened the wrongdoer with a loss of a home or tunic, as well as minor offences for which one could adjudicate penance or else abandon the idea of punishing the culprit altogether. The author described the procedure which initiated disciplinary proceedings as well as the penitential practices of the penitent. He also provided pertinent examples of violations of the Statute by the Templar Brothers, relying on source materials.

    Artykuł przybliża postać wielkiego krakowskiego naukowca – profesora Stanisława Grodziskiego (1929–2020). Najpierw ukazane zostało dzieciństwo i lata młodzieńcze profesora, w tym także czasy okupacji (1939–1945) oraz okres powojenny. Następnie autor przedstawił życie naukowe krakowskiego badacza. Szkic pokazał kierunki zainteresowań naukowych profesora Grodziskiego, jego dorobek naukowy, dydaktyczny, literacki i popularyzatorski, a także działalność w ramach samego Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie, Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności oraz innych organizacji naukowych. W pracy przedstawiono większość pozycji naukowych Profesora z zachowaniem układu chronologicznego ich powstania.
    The article presents the figure of a great Cracovian scientist – Professor Stanisław Grodziski (1929–2020). First, the professor’s childhood and adolescent years are presented, including the times of occupation (1939–1945) and the post-war period. Then the author presented the scientific life of the Cracovian researcher. The work shows the directions of Professor Grodziski’s scientific interests, his scientific, didactic, literary and popularising achievements, as well as his activity within the Jagiellonian University in Kraków itself, the Polish Academy of Learning and other scientific organisations. The majority of the Professor’s scientific works are presented in chronological order of their appearance.

    The article concerns the penal trial of members of the Silesian intelligence service “Stragan” of the “U-2” group of the Home Army, who were accused of treason of the Third Reich and executed in 1944 after a short trial. They were intelligence agents, gathering data on the military and defence affairs of the Third Reich in Salzgitter in the mountains of Harz. The text shows the mechanisms of the justice system in the Third Reich, the way of conducting preparatory proceedings, and the trial itself. It also describes executions and the fate of the bodies of the convicted after the execution.

    Opis:
    The paper discusses the relations between the Galician autonomy authorities, particularly those of the National Department, and Jan Matejko, the most prominent 19th-century Polish painter. These relations reached their climax when the Galician Sejm purchased a collection of items of national significance which belonged to the artist. Noticeable efforts were made during the establishing and subsidizing the museum in Cracow which was named after Jan Matejko. In addition, the paper describes the contribution of the National Department to the preparation of Jan Matejko’s funeral. The description relies on the material – previously not explored – stored in the State Archives of Lviv. The paper sheds a new light on the previously unknown facts illustrating the attitude assumed by the Galician autonomy authorities toward the Galician 19th-century national art.
    Autor ukazał w pracy relacje zachodzące między władzami autonomii galicyjskiej, w szczególności między Wydziałem Krajowym a Janem Matejką, najwybitniejszym malarzem polskim XIX w. Punktem kulminacyjnym tych relacji był dokonany przez sejm galicyjski zakup pamiątek narodowych zgromadzonych przez artystę w ciągu swego życia, a po jego śmierci – udział władzy krajowej w zachowaniu w całości substancji artystycznej malarza w postaci powołania i dotowania muzeum jego imienia w Krakowie. Osobno ukazano wkład Wydziału Krajowego w przygotowanie pogrzebu Jana Matejki, opierając się o nieprzebadany dotąd materiał Archiwum Państwowego we Lwowie. Praca rzuca nowe światło na nieznane dotąd relacje między władzami autonomii galicyjskiej a sztuką narodową dziewiętnastowiecznej Galicji.

    In his monograph The Hangman and His Workshop in Silesia, Upper Lusatia, and Kladsko County from the Beginning of the 16th to the Mid – 19th Century Daniel Wojtucki presents the profession of executioner. Having analysed historical sources, the author comprehensively characterizes the work of the executioner in the broad social context. He describes the profession on the background of the executioner’s family and presents a common approach to such a job. Particularly worth mentioning were some of the extraneous activities that the executioner took up and the collaborators with whom he cooperated. According to legal aspects, the author described the procedure for execution of a sentence as well as tools used in the executioner’s work. As an appendix, the author attached biographies of various executioners.

    Praca dotyczy spisu grobów polskich i niemieckich z okresu powstań śląskich na terenie powiatu pszczyńskiego. To tu rozpoczęły się powstania śląskie a powiat pszczyński uchodził za matecznik powstańczego zrywu. W pracy ukazano zaangażowanie mieszkańców w czyn zbrojny poprzez straty, jakie ponieśli uczestniczący w walkach peowiacy (członkowie Polskiej Organizacji Wojskowej Górnego Ślaska) oraz stojący po drugiej stronie konfliktu żołnierze niemieccy. Dzięki temu można ocenić straty jak i wkład osobowy powiatu pszczyńskiego w niepodległość Polski i przyłączenie części Górnego Śląska do Macierzy. Zważywszy, że materiał ten nie był wcześniej publikowany i oparty jest na zachowanych archiwaliach stanowi on odpowiedź na wiele postulatów badawczych w tej materii. 
    The article concerns the register of Polish and German graves from the period of the Silesian Uprisings in the territory of the Pszczyna poviat. It was here that the Silesian Uprisings began, and the Pszczyna poviat was considered to be the origin of the uprising. The inhabitants' involvement in the uprising was shown through the losses suffered by the members of the Polish Military Organisation of Upper Silesia and the German soldiers on the other side of the conflict. Thanks to these data, it is possible to assess both the losses and the personal contribution of the Pszczyna poviat to Poland's independence and incorporation of part of Upper Silesia to the Moth- erland. Considering that this material has not been published before and is based on preserved archives, it is an answer to many research postulates concerning this topic.
