Crime is one of the main threats to the security of local communities, the scientifi c exploration of which may contribute to raising the level of this security both at the local level as well as nationwide. The aim of this study was twofold. Firstly, to diagnose the level of security of local communities, including in the context of their members’ residence in the vicinity of a person(s) who they know have served a prison sentence in the past. Secondly, to determine the existence of a relationship between the safety of local communities and the experience of crime, particularly victimisation, among its members. The aim of the research was achieved using the diagnostic survey method. The results of the survey indicate that safety in the surveyed local communities is at a high level, and the main variable differentiating its level is gender. In static terms, the level of women’s security is higher than that men’s, while in processual terms, the tendency is opposite. The results of the study do not indicate a statistically signifi cant relationship between safety and residing in the neighbourhood of a person(s) with a criminal history. In addition, the respondents’ experiences of crime, including their victimisation experiences, do not seem to be important in terms of safety. The processual nature of security and the multitude of factors that shape it indicate the need for a permanent exploration of the research subject and, based on its results, legislative and organisational actions aimed at increasing the level of security of local communities.

Kluczowymi elementami dla prezentowanego artykułu są potencjalne reakcje społeczności lokalnej na zderzenie kulturowe z tzw. uchodźcami syryjskimi. Tytułowe zderzenie cywilizacyjne ujęte jest jednak w ramy lokalne, nie globalne a opisywane zjawiska głównie dotyczą potencjalnych lokalnej społeczności. Opisane zostały konstytutywne cechy obcego w strukturze społecznej, cechy i podłoże egzystencjalne społeczności lokalnej. W tak wykreowaną podbudowę definicyjną wpleciono możliwe, potencjalnie odczuwane zagrożenia społeczności lokalnej. Artykuł kończy skrócona wersja dobrych i złych praktyk na gruncie konfrontacji kultur uchodźców i społeczności lokalnej.
The key elements for the presented article are the potential reactions of the local community to the cultural clash with the so-called Syrian refugees. The title civilization clash is, however, contained in local, not global framework, and the described phenomena mainly concern potential local communities. The constitutive features of the stranger in the social structure, features and existential background of the local community have been described. Possible, potentially felt threats to the local community were woven into the definition foundation created in this way. The article ends with a shortened version of good and bad practices based on the confrontation of refugee cultures and the local community.

The article deals with the issues of the innovations implemented in public transport. Their theoretical background was defined in the form of the latest concepts of territorial development: the theory of sustainable development, circular economy, and smart city. The examples of innovations quoted above have been analysed in terms of their impact on: the local community, the environment, health, safety, and economic and social aspects. The main conclusion drawn from the analysis is that technical innovations in public transport contribute to improving mobility, the comfort and safety of commute, and, at the same time, have a positive impact on the environment.

The subject of this article is the analysis of one of own tasks, which aims to satisfy the needs of the local community by supporting and disseminating the self-government idea, including creating conditions for the operation and development of auxiliary units and implementation of programmes to stimulate civic activity. The subject matter has been presented on the basis of obligatory, quasi-obligatory and optional forms of satisfying collective needs of the community in the light of article 7 par. 1 point 17 of the Act on municipal self-government together with an indication of the role and significance of municipal bodies in the organizational and functional structure of the mechanisms presented, with the help of which the municipality’s own task is implemented. Discussing this task is important due to the fact that it is a form of implementation of the principle of subsidiarity and deconcentration in the self-government community.

Opis:
e-Waste awareness and behavior of local Polish community has been examined. Specifically, the issue of selective waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collection has been explored. The main objectives of the research was to evaluate an attitude of the individuals towards e-waste treatment and to recognize the causes of low efficiency of the current WEEE management. The research was conducted among the inhabitants of a small town in Poland. Collected data may be useful while preparing household WEEE management systems. Over 52% of respondents, each was a representative of one household, conducted selective electrical and electronic equipment waste collection. Unfortunately, 12% (mostly young people aged 16-25, 9%) admitted that they threw e-waste mixed with general municipal waste. Another 12% (aged 18-25) claimed that they had never disposed of WEEE. Nowadays, the technology is developing very fast and small electronic devices are frequently exchanged, so the above mentioned statement is unlikely to be true. The research survey confirmed that further costs should be borne on educational activities which will raise people's awareness concerning WEEE threats and motivate them to collect e-waste selectively. The improvement of the management system increasing the number of e-waste drop off points, is necessary as well.

The sense of security is the subject of scientific research and is analyzed by various government institutions and non-governmental organizations. In the research context, it refers to both the subjective feeling of individual security and social security. The results of individual studies should be a source of inspiration for political decision-makers and people in power, both at the government and local levels, in the process of developing programs for shaping security in local communities. A high level of subjective sense of security directly affects the quality of social and individual life. In addition, test results can play an important role in assessing the accuracy of diagnosis, helping to identify the most important concerns of the individual and society. This information is necessary to effectively shape strategies aimed at improving the quality of life and safety of citizens.

The sustainable development of the local self-government institute in modern democracies, the introduction of the principles of subsidiarity, regionalization and decentralization show a clear need for implementing the systemic reforms aimed at strengthening local initiatives in Ukraine. Therefore, there is a need to increase the role of self-governing structures, to grapple for the ways of adaptating governance at the regional level to the long-standing European traditions of democratic governance, and to address the procedural issues of the power distribution, transfer and delegation, in particular the formation and distribution of local budgets. One of the most effective tools to enhance local communities is a participatory budget, the implementation of which in Ukraine is gaining momentum and needs to be analyzed, and to be supported upon its successful realization. This article focuses on the analysis of the implementation of participatory budget as an instrument of the local community development in Ukraine in the case of the city of Sumy

Research presented in this article was undertaken to determine how representatives of authorities and residents of communes perceive airports in the context of the impact of these airports on the socio-economic situation in the communes. The goal was achieved using: analysis of documentation of communes, analysis of data on the functioning of airports, and a diagnostic survey using the interview technique and survey technique. The research was carried out on representatives of 5 communes located in Poland. To analyse the collected material and present the results, Statistica v.13.3, R v.4.0.0 and RStudio editor software were used. Results of this research proved that airports play a pivotal role in stimulating the development of the region. They influence the quality of life in the commune by contributing to the creation of jobs, attracting investors, and generating income for the municipal budget through taxes paid.
