The effects of CuSO4 and H2O2 on the flotation behavior of cyanide chalcopyrite were investigated by flotation tests, microcalorimetry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The underlying activation mechanism was studied in the perspective of micro-thermodynamics and surface properties. The flotation results indicated that cyanide chalcopyrite was strongly inhibited by sodium cyanide, with the maximum flotation recovery of 22.5% only. CuSO4 and H2O2 significantly improved the flotation of cyanide chalcopyrite, and the flotation recovery was increased to 92.28% and 84.35%, respectively. The micro-thermodynamics results indicated that the adsorption heat of butyl xanthate on cyanide chalcopyrite surface increased after the addition of CuSO4 and H2O2, as well as the reaction order. CuSO4 and H2O2 can significantly improve the adsorption of butyl xanthate on the surface of cyanide chalcopyrite by decreasing the apparent activation energy by 80.11% and 66.54%, respectively. XPS analysis indicated that the CuCN was generated on the surface of cyanide chalcopyrite, leading to the loss of sulfur and inhibiting the adsorption of collectors. As a result, the flotation of cyanide chalcopyrite was depressed. It is considered that, CuSO4 and H2O2 can improve the flotation of cyanide chalcopyrite by eleminating CuCN from its surface and increasing the concentration of S by 57.02% and 37.48%, respectively.

Opis:
Lizardite slime coating is one of significant factors in the deterioration of the floatability of sulphide minerals. In this study, a nanoparticle cationic polystyrene-co-poly(n-butylacrylate)(PS-PBNH) collector was introduced to eliminate the negative impact of lizardite slimes in pyrite flotation. Microflotation results demonstrated that lizardite slims did not affect the recovery of pyrite in the presence of PS-PBNH. Good flotation separation of pyrite from lizardite was achieved when the nanoparticle PS-PBNH collector was used. The results from adsorption study indicated that PS-PBNH exhibited a significant adsorption on the pyrite surface in the presence of lizardite slimes. Sedimentation tests showed that hetero-aggregation occurred between lizardite slimes and pyrite, whereas the introduction of PS-PBNH collector resulted in a heterogeneous dispersion between them. Zeta potential measurements suggested that PS-PBNH collector interacted with pyrite surface, and the PS-PBNH adsorption changed the surface charge of pyrite from negative to be positive. As a result, the interaction of pyrite with lizardite shifted from electrostatic attraction to electrostatic repulsion, as supported by the DLVO calculations. These results indicated PS-PBNH can be used as a potential collector for pyrite flotation in pyrite/lizardite slimes system without the need for a depressant.

This paper presents the kinematic analysis of the H20 humanoid mobile robot. The kinematic analysis for the robot arms is essential to achieve accurate grasping and placing tasks for object transportation. The H20 robot has dual arms with 6 revolute joints with 6-DOF. For each arm, the forward kinematics is derived and the closed-form solution for the inverse kinematic problem with different cases of singularities is found. A reverse decoupling mechanism method is used to solve the inverse kinematic problem analytically by viewing the arm kinematic chain in reverse order. The kinematics solution is validated using MATLAB with robotics toolbox. A decision method is used to determine the optimal solution within multiple solutions of inverse kinematic depending on the joints’ limits and minimum joints motion. The workspace analysis of the arm is found and simulated. Finally, a verification process was performed on the real H20 arms by applying blind and vision based labware manipulation strategies to achieve the transportation tasks in real life science laboratories.

As the dynamic behavior of the concrete is different from that under static load, this research focuses on the study of dynamic responses of concrete by simulating the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test. Finite element code LS-DYNA is used for modeling the dynamic behaviors of concrete. Three continuous models are reviewed and the Holmquist-Johnson-Cook model (HJC) is introduced in detail. The HJC model which has been implemented in LS-DYNA is used to represent the concrete properties. The SHPB test model is established and a few stress waves are applied to the incident bar to simulate the dynamic concrete behaviors. The stress-strain curves are obtained. The stress distributions are analyzed. The crack initiation and propagation process are described. It is concluded that: the HJC model can modeling the entire process of the fracture initiation and fragmentation; the compressive of the concrete is significantly influenced by the strain rates.

Opis:
Gem has long been chased because of its cultural and historical significance and beauty, and the identification and evaluation of its structural features have also been paid attention to. Plum blossom jade and emerald were identified and analyzed by means of the conventional detection method, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction analysis. The results showed that plum blossom jade with black and brown background and red, white and brown amygdaloid body spots had a diameter of 1–10 mm, a relative density of 2.69–2.75 g/cm3 and a refractive index of 1.52–1.55, and its minerals contained water molecules, quartz, low albite, anorthoclase and andesite. It was observed that emerald was green, greasy, glassy, transparent, with a relative density of 2.66–2.78 g/cm3 and 1.58 refractive index, and its minerals contained water molecules; there were two kinds of arrangement in crystal channels. The main mineral component of emerald was beryl, and its purity was high.

As the most important material parameter of semiconductor, bandgap is necessary to be investigated to meet the design requirements of the high-performance optoelectronic devices. A new method of is proposed to calibrate the bandgap of antimonide based multi-component alloys with considering the effect of spin-orbit splitting off bands and the doublet degeneracy of valance band on the bandgaps of Sb-containing materials. A correction factor is introduced in the conventional calculation, and the spin-orbit splitting method is proposed. Besides, the In_xGa_{1-x}As_ySb_{1-y} films with different compositions are grown on GaSb substrates by molecular beam epitaxy, and the corresponding bandgaps are obtained by photoluminescence to test the accuracy and reliability of this new method. An error rate analysis reveals that the α calculated by the spin-orbit splitting correction method is decreased to 2%, almost one order of magnitude smaller than the Moon method, which means that the new method can calculate the antimonide multicomponent more accurately with some applicability. This work can give a reasonable interpretation for the reported results and beneficial to tailor the antimonides properties and optoelectronic devices.

The interface characteristics, bending and impact behavior, as well as fracture characteristics of stainless steel clad plates fabricated by vacuum hot rolling at different rolling temperatures of 1100°C, 1200°C and 1300°C are investigated in detail. The interface bonding strength is gradually increased with the increasing rolling temperature due to the sufficient diffusion behavior of alloy element. The bending toughness and impact toughness are gradually decreased, while the bending strength increase with the increase of the rolling temperature, which is attributed to mechanisms of matrix softening and interface strengthening at high rolling temperature. Due to the weak interface at 1100°C, the bending and impact crack propagation path was displaced by delamination cracks, which in turn lead to reduction in stress intensity of the main crack, playing an effective role in toughening the stainless steel clad plates. Moreover, the impact fracture morphologies of clad plates show a typical ductile-brittle transition phenomenon, which is attributed to the matrix softening behavior with the increasing rolling temperature.

This paper studied the effect of laser welding technology on dissimilar metal welding joints of TA15 titanium alloy and Inconel 718 nickel-based alloy. The research results indicate that the laser welding of TA15 titanium alloy and Inconel 718 nickel-based alloy directly was difficult to form well, which due to the intermetallic compounds caused the joint brittle. When the pure Cu foil was used as the filling layer, the quality of the welding joints can be improved effectively. The experimental results also indicate that there were brittle intermetallic-compounds in the laser welding seam, and the laser power had an important influence on the performance and mechanical properties of the dissimilar metal joint. The maximum average tensile strength of the welding joint of 2300 W was increased to 252.32 MPa. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) results show that the fracture morphology was river pattern, a typical morphological of cleavage fracture, and the mode was brittle fracture.

Dynamic loads of the connecting bolts in a universal joint can greatly affect the bolt fatigue and fracture, as well as the machinery safety and stability. But few researches focused on those. To obtain the dynamic load characteristics of the connecting bolts in a universal joint, this paper established a flexible dynamic model for the connecting bolts. A multibody dynamic model of a universal joint is developed. The dynamic loads on the connecting bolts of the universal joint are analyzed. The influences of the preloads, speeds and loads are studied. The amplitude and frequency properities are obtained. The effect of the preload is small when the preload is in the range of 80%~120% of the standard value. The load and speed have great influence on the time- and frequency-domain dynamic loads of the bolts. The flexible dynamic model of the connecting bolt is closer to the actual situation than the rigid model since it can consider the preload and deformation of the bolts. This study can provide guidance for the fatigue life prediction of the universal shaft and its bolts.

Gas cleaning using plasma technology is slowly introduced into industry nowadays. Several challenges still have to be overcome: increasing the scale, safety, life-time and reducing costs. In 2006 we demonstrated a 20 kW nanosecond pulsed corona system. The electrical efficiency was > 90%. O-radical yields were found to be very high (3-7 mole/kWh). However, to be competitive, high costs of the pulsed power technology are still a major hurdle. Here we present a novel modulator for efficient generation of large volume corona plasma. Only a small amount of expensive high-voltage components are required. Switching is done at an intermediate voltage level of 1 kV with standard thyristors. At the high-voltage side, only a diode and a pulse transformer are needed. The estimated costs are about 5 kEuro/kW, whereas for state-of-the-art pulsed power technology these costs usually are about 20-30 kEuro/kW. Detailed investigations on the modulator and a wire-plate corona reactor will be presented. Modulator parameters have been varied systematically as well as reactor parameters (number of electrodes, electrode-plate distance). The O-radical yield was determined from the measured ozone concentrations at the exhaust of the reactor. With a detailed kinetic model, ozone concentrations could be calculated back to the initial O*-yields. The following conclusions will be discussed: for all parameters, an electrical efficiency of > 90% could be obtained. With fast imaging, the average streamer width was found to be ∼ 737 μm and an estimate for the plasma volume was made. The obtained yields of O-radicals (1-4 mole/kWh) are excellent. The conditions to obtain high yields will be discussed.

Masson pine (Pinus massoniana) is an important species for resin tapping in China. Molecular assisted selection (MAS) has been gradually introduced in to the selection and breeding of masson pine. Until now, the lack of connection between genome information and phenotypic data has hindered the breeding and selection of important chemical compounds of xylem resin. In this study, gas chromatography mass spectrometer (GC-MS) was employed for qualitative and quantitative analysis of chemical compounds of resin collected from 69 masson pine germplasm resources. Then, genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted for the terpenoids with higher heritability. A total of 15 primary compounds, including six diterpenes and nine monoterpenes/sesquiterpenes, were detected from xylem resin. By using five GWAS methods, 42 associated SNPs were identified from these masson pines. The P. taeda genome database was used for detecting candidate genes related to the associated SNPs. By using transcriptome data, several members of PKc_like super family, Cytochrome P450, AP2-ERF, F-box, and ABC transporter were found to be highly expressed in the masson pines with higher resin-yielding capacity. The terpenoids associated SNPs can be directly used for MAS. These candidate genes, especially the two F-box members, will contribute to the study of terpenoid biosynthesis mechanisms in the future.
