Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disease which affects approximately 1% of the population worldwide. Recent research on the role of heat shock proteins (Hsps) in RA development indicates that they may have pro- or anti-inflammatory effect, most probably via modulating cytokine secretion. We investigated type Th1 (INFγ, TNFα, IL-2) and type Th2 (IL-10, IL-6, IL-4) cytokine levels in sera of RA patients and healthy controls, using flow cytometric bead array assay, and searched for correlations between the cytokine levels and serum antibodies against bacterial (DnaJ) and human (Hdj1, Hdj2 and Hdj3) Hsp40 proteins, as well as clinical and laboratory parameters. The levels of all cytokines studied were significantly increased in RA patients; the highest increase relative to healthy controls (7-fold) was observed for IL-6 and its levels correlated positively with the antibodies directed to DnaJ and to the C-terminal domain of Hdj2, and with diagnostic parameters (DAS 28, Steinbrocker RTG criteria, ARA/7, ESR, TEN, SW and GH). INFγ levels correlated negatively with DAS 28, ESR, TEN and SW. No correlations were found for TNFα, IL-2 or IL-4. Our results support the hypothesis of Hsp40 involvement in RA as well as indicate that IL-6 serum level is a good marker of the RA activity.

Choroby układu oddechowego są istotną przyczyną długotrwałej absencji chorobowej, a nawet częściowej lub całkowitej niezdolności do pracy zawodowej. Artykuł jest pierwszym w Polsce opracowaniem zasad dobrych praktyk w opiece profilaktycznej nad osobami z chorobami układu oddechowego. Omówiono w nim zagadnienia związane z orzekaniem o zdolności do pracy u tych osób oraz przedstawiono kluczowe elementy opieki profilaktycznej nad pracownikiem z obturacyjnymi i śródmiąższowymi chorobami układu oddechowego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kontroli czynników ryzyka. Respiratory diseases are a cause of long-term sickness absence, and even of partial or complete inability to work. This paper presents the first in Poland description of principles of good practice in occupational health service provided for people with respiratory diseases. The issues concerning the certification of the ability to work in this group of patients are discussed. The key-principles of preventive care of workers with obstructive and interstitial lung diseases with particular attention paid to the control of major risk factors are also presented. The importance of possible contraindications for job performance by workers affected by these diseases, as well as the responsibilities of occupational health physicians were highlighted. Opis:
The changes in the global economic and political system in the 20th century and the cessation of some and the emergence of new economic, ecological and social crises have resulted in a return to the concept of the doctrine of the social responsibility of the organisation. The change in the classical priorities of the economy for ones of corporate social responsibility included issues of natural and social environments. The environments are the hosts for organisations that produce and distribute wealth and services. The revival of the corporate social responsibility trend in the 21st century appeared due to international social organisations, which recognised the prosperity of semi-peripheral and peripheral societies as important to follow the well-being of the core countries. According to the doctrine of corporate social responsibility, it is possible to restore the economy of basic ethical values and human rights. The model of corporate social responsibility was proposed by Richard E. Smith. In turn, Milton Friedman talks about the responsibility of profit. However, sustainable development requires the perception of different management solutions. The organisations have their headquarters mainly in cities. And the city is also an organisation. In this context, a thesis was made: the city as a business centre is an organisation aspiring to be competitive on the global market; the city is a managed organisation to ensure the well-being of its inhabitants; the city is obliged to adopt a socially responsible attitude. Therefore, social responsibility of the city required a general definition. Such a definition was proposed in this paper. Individual sections provide the theoretical justification for specific practices and the understanding of the importance of key terms and concepts, as well as the need for further research on the model of cities social responsibility. The issues of ethics, creation and distribution of wealth, cooperation with stakeholders and sustainable development are the basis of cities social responsibility.

Opis:
Escherichia coli small heat shock proteins, IbpA/B, function as molecular chaperones and protect misfolded proteins against irreversible aggregation. IbpA/B are induced during overproduction of recombinant proteins and bind to inclusion bodies in E. coli cells. We investigated the effect of ΔibpA/B mutation on formation of inclusion bodies and biological activity of enzymes sequestered in the aggregates in E. coli cells. Using three different recombinant proteins: Cro-β-galactosidase, β-lactamase and rat rHtrA1 we demonstrated that deletion of the ibpA/B operon did not affect the level of produced inclusion bodies. However, in aggregates containing IbpA/B a higher enzymatic activity was detected than in the IbpA/B-deficient inclusion bodies. These results confirm that IbpA/B protect misfolded proteins from inactivation in vivo.

The term heritage language has been functioning in the relevant world literature since the late 1990s. It began to be used in Polish publications somewhat later gradually gaining acceptance in the circles of researchers, teachers and users. Its popularity ensures its broad application in various subdisciplines of linguistics – it is used not only by language educationalists, but also psycho-, ethno-, and sociolinguists. This study out lines the specificity of the notion of heritage language with particular focus on its significance in ethnic education and usefulness when differentiating between natural and cognitive bilingualism, and describing linguistic competences of users, which are largely determined by being part of a given generation of the Polish community abroad.

Opis:
Due to global social and economic changes the educational past and language biographies of Polish migrant children are currently more complex. Observations and research prove that a significant ratio of these children are bilingual. They learn the majority code relatively fast and at the same time they acquire/maintain Polish, their heritage language (HL). The level of their competency in Polish varies, however, due to limited contact with it and “little practice”. Most of the young migrants are therefore naturally bilingual, only rarely however may they boast cognitive bilingualism. In the paper, we analyze the phenomenon of bilingualism placing it in the learning/teaching perspective. We also emphasise the necessity of conducting comparative research into language competences of Polish bilingual teenagers. Such research would considerably expand our knowledge of bilingualism, in particular of the rarely studied cognitive form. It should also show a more systematic and thorough description of HL itself as a phenomenon situated somewhere ‘in between’ a native language and a foreign one. The results of such research would be applicable not only in socio-, psycho- and applied linguistics and pedagogy, but also in the sphere of education
Przeobrażenia społeczno-ekonomiczne towarzyszące globalizacji sprawiły, że biografie językowe oraz przeszłość edukacyjna polskich dzieci stały się bardziej złożone. Obserwacje i prace badawcze pokazują, że znaczna część uczniów jest dwujęzyczna, zazwyczaj stosunkowo szybko przyswajają bowiem język kraju zamieszkania, zachowując lub poznając jednocześnie polszczyznę. Stopień jej znajomości może być jednak dość zróżnicowany ze względu na brak możliwości stałego i bezpośredniego z nią kontaktu. W rezultacie większą część młodych ludzi o polskich korzeniach cechuje dwujęzyczność naturalna, znacznie rzadziej natomiast ich udziałem jest dwujęzyczność kognitywna. W niniejszym artykule zjawisko dwujęzyczności będziemy rozważać na płaszczyźnie glottodydaktycznej. Zwrócimy również uwagę na konieczność badań komparatywnych kompetencji lingwistycznych osób bilingwalnych. Poszerzyłyby one naszą wiedzę o dwujęzyczności, w szczególności zaś o rzadko badanej – kognitywnej. Przyniosłyby również pełniejszą charakterystykę JOD jako fenomenu plasującego się językiem ojczystym a obcym, a ich wyniki znalazły zastosowanie nie tylko w glottodydaktyce, czy socjo- i psycholingwistyce, lecz także w edukacji.

The paper addresses aspects of the language of the Polish diaspora and of the standard language, as forms of language spoken by Poles living abroad. The standard language is/should be common for all Poles – used everywhere and by everyone in the same way. The Polish diaspora language, on the other hand, appears only in specific territories and is used for communication in specific groups of Poles. It differs depending on the country where they settled and on the language it comes into contact with, as well as on the diversity of the emi-grants, and also depending on the Polish they brought from their home coun-try (either them themselves or their parents). Although the terms “Polonia” [Polish diaspora] and “język polonijny” [Polish diaspora language] are com-monly used, one should be aware that the latter are actually numerous.

Brak jednoznacznych uregulowań prawnych i jasno wytyczonych w życiu gospodarczym zasad etycznych, a także kryzysy finansowe i dążenie do maksymalizacji zysków bez względu na wszystko, spowodowały, że Stowarzyszenie Księgowych w Polsce wychodząc naprzeciw wszystkim zajmującym się rachunkowością i ich potrzebom, stworzyło i wprowadziło w życie Kodeks Zawodowej Etyki w Rachunkowości. Celem Kodeksu jest wskazanie odpowiedniej postawy wobec napotykanych problemów etycznych. Autor próbuje wskazać, jak ważne są zasady etyki w rachunkowości, ukazać istotę i sens ich stosowania przez księgowych oraz biura rachunkowe. Artykuł opiera się na analizie literatury i Kodeksu Zawodowej Etyki w Rachunkowości, wykorzystano również metodę analizy źródeł.
Lack of clear law regulations and ethical principles clearly set out in an economic life, as well as financial crises and the desire to maximize profits in line with “no matter what” rule caused the Association of Accountants in Poland, in order to address the expectations of everyone involved in accounting and to meet their needs has created and put into effect the This Code of Professional Conduct in Accounting. The purpose of the Code is to identify an appropriate attitude towards the encountered ethical problems. The author attempts to point out the importance of ethical rules in accounting, reveal their essence and meaning of their use by accountants and accounting offices. The article is based on the analysis of literature and the Code of Professional Conduct in Accounting, the method of sources analysis has been applied.

The author defines three equally important theories: the eco-management and audit system with sustainable development and social responsibility. A critical query of literature in English and Polish indicated the necessary and sufficient conditions to link the spatial structure of cities with the features of the three theories. The literature, however, does not include such a synthetic consideration of the urban development model, where the eco-management system is based on social responsibility and sustainable development. The thesis is that the process of socially responsible city management is based on true sustainable development, which is achieved in the city’s eco-management and audit system, based on the identified environmental aspects of the city. The article is the first comprehensive piece of evidence to demonstrate the need for a compulsory (rather than voluntary) and deep environmental approach to urban development to make it equitably responsible and sustainable. The article indicates the research gaps, which are the environmental and socio-ecological aspects of cities. A definition of the term environmental management and audit system of cities as an organisation is given. The lack of ecological security of semi-peripheral and the peripheral cities may be the reason why global civilisation challenges cannot be met. The author refers to the ecological safety of cities, proposes potential future research and invites to intercultural discussions on the problems of city management, which are still not socially responsible and sustainable.
