Opis:
Our research provides novel information concerning the insecticidal activity of Brassica alba mustard oil applied to the intestinal tract via insects’ diet against pests from the order Lepidoptera: Cydia pomonella, Dendrolimus pini, and Spodoptera exigua. The LC50 value of the oil against C. pomonella was 0.422 mg ⋅ ml–1. The LC50 of the plant oil against D. pini was 11.74 mg ⋅ ml–1. The LC50 of the botanical product against S. exigua was 11.66 mg ⋅ ml–1. The plant substance was the most active against C. pomonella in comparison with D. pini and S. exigua. The LC50 values of the oil against D. pini and S. exigua were similar. The plant oil exhibited high insecticidal activity against pests from the order Lepidoptera and may prove to be an effective biopesticide.

The aim of this work is to compare the species composition of phyllophagous Lepidoptera in deciduous trees of Kharkiv city as of the 1960s and 2017-2020, as well as the distribution of insect species by lifestyle, by the size of individuals, and by the ability to mass propagation. The greatest increase in the number of genera and species was noted in the families Gracillariidae, Tortricidae, and Geometridae, and a decrease in the families Notodontidae and Erebidae. Gracillariidae has been replenished due to 4 alien species: Cameraria ohridella, Macrosaccus robiniella, Parectopa robiniella, and Phyllonorycter issikii. Open-living species predominate in both assessments, however, at the second assessment, the number of species with semi-hidden and hidden lifestyles increased as well as the number of middle-size and small-size species. The eruptive species from the fi rst assessment became rarer, and alien species more often.

Opis:
A new microsporidian pathogen of the cabbage butterfly, Pieris brassicae is described based on light microscopy, ultrastructural characteristics and comparative small subunit rDNA analysis. The pathogen infects the gut of P. brassicae. All development stages are in direct contact with the host cell cytoplasm. Meronts are spherical or ovoid. Spherical meronts measure 3.68 ± 0.73 × 3.32 ± 1.09 µm and ovoid meronts 4.04 ± 0.74 × 2.63 ± 0.49 µm. Sporonts are spherical to elongate (4.52 ± 0.48 × 2.16 ± 0.27 µm). Sporoblasts are elongated and measure 4.67 ± 0.60 × 2.30 ± 0.30 µm in length. Fresh spores with nuclei arranged in a diplokaryon are oval and measure 5.29 ± 0.55 µm in length and 2.31 ± 0.29 µm in width. Spores stained with Giemsa’s stain measure 4.21 ± 0.50 µm in length and 1.91 ± 0.24 µm in width. Spores have an isofilar polar filament with six coils. All morphological, ultrastructural and molecular features indicate that the described microsporidium belongs to the genus Nosema and confirm that it has different taxonomic characters than other microsporidia infecting Pieris spp.

Opis:
The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta is a serious pest of tomato crops worldwide. In this study the effect of sublethal concentrations of abamectin (at 10 and 30% lethal concentrations, LC10 and LC30) was investigated on developmental and reproduction parameters of the tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta. Lethal concentrations were estimated by leaf dip bioassay on the fourth instar larvae of the T. absoluta that, LC50, LC30 and LC10 were 0.23, 0.15 and 0.12 mg · l–1, respectively. The sublethal concentrations led to significant decreases in adult emergence, the percentage of pupation of the parent generation, fecundity and adult longevity compared to the control. Sublethal concentrations significantly decreased the net reproductive rate (R0), intrinsic rate of increase (r), finite rate of increase (λ), and gross reproduction rate (GRR). There was a significant decrease in the time to egg developmental and doubling time (DT) of T. absoluta. However, sublethal concentrations of abamectin had no significant effects on the percentage of pupation, larva, prepupa and pupa developmental periods, hatchability and sex ratio of offspring. The results of this study indicated that sublethal concentrations of abamectin could influence some biological parameters of T. absoluta. The results could also be helpful for making better management decisions for controlling the tomato leafminer.

Opis:
Protein digestion in insects relies on several groups of proteases, among which trypsin plays a prominent role. In the current study, larvae of Pieris brassicae L. were fed radish leaves treated with 1 mM concentrations of three specific inhibitors of trypsin: AEBSF.HCl [4-(2- -aminoethyl)-benzenesulfonyl fluoride, monohydrochloride], TLCK (N-a-tosyl-l-lysine chloromethyl ketone) and SBTI (Soybean Trypsin Inhibitor) to find their potential effects on gene expression of trypsin. Initially, RT-PCR analysis revealed a gene of 748 bp responsible for synthesizing the digestive trypsin in P. brassicae larvae. Also, qRT-PCR data indicated a statistically greater expression of trypsin gene in the larvae fed 1 mM concentrations of AEBSF.HCl, TLCK and SBTI than the control. Results of the current study indicated that synthetic inhibitors can not only negatively affect the gene expression of P. brassicae trypsin, but also the insect can activate a compensatory mechanism against interruption of protein digestion by inducing more expression of the gene and producing more trypsin into the midgut lumen.

Noctuinae are a challenge for effective control in vegetable crops. The species most dangerous for agricultural crops in central Europe are: Agrotis segetum, A. exclamationis, Xestia c-nigrum. The aim of presented study was to assess the sensitivity of A. exclamationis to 8 native strains of entomopathogenic nematode srepresenting two species: Steinernema feltiae (Filipjev) and Heterorhabditis megidis (Poinar, Jackson & Klein) in laboratory conditions. Presented study showed markedly higher effectiveness of strains Steinernematidae over the strain of H. megidis. Obtained results show that in the attempts to control A. exclamationis, selection of strain and nematode dose are equally important.

Information about all trophic groups of Lepidoptera caterpillars is presented with remarks concerning their biochemical, behavioral and morphological adaptations. Theories on early evolution of caterpillar feeding habits, with soil detritophagy as an ancestral feeding mode, are discussed. All groups of phytophagous caterpillars including: leaf miners, borers, tunnelers and external foliovores with information on possible evolutionary scenarios on transition to plant feeding, leaf mining and external phytophagy are chracterized. Problems of plant-lepidoptera chemical coevolution, sequestration of defensive substances from plants and induction of food preferences are considered. The paper reviews also cases of aphytophagy including detritivory, mycetophagy, coprophagy and carnivory with examples of scavengers, preadators parasites and parasitoids.

Opis:
The tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), is one of the most destructive pest of solanaceae and it prefers tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). The aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of a wide range of seed proteinaceous extracts from different plant families against T. absoluta α-amylase activity. The effect of pH on the inhibitory activity of seed extracts showed that seed extracts of amaranth along with a wheat cultivar (Alvand, Aflak, Sarvdasht, Alborz, and Kavir) produced more than a 50% inhibition of the insect amylase. Aflak wheat seed extract at 10 μg, inhibited 81% of the insect amylase. This percent was the highest inhibition achieved. The other proteinaceous seed extracts had a lower effect on the enzymatic activity. Probit analysis showed that Aflak, Kavir, Alborz, Alvand, Sarvdasht, and amaranth inhibited the amylase activity with an I50 of 1.94, 3.24, 3.46, 3.31, 4.97, and 15.39 μg, respectively. The effect of pH on the inhibition of the α-amylase showed the highest inhibition of Amaranth and wheat, at a pH value of 8.0, which corresponds to the pH of the insect’s gut. Gel electrophoresis assays confirmed the spectrophotometric assays showing that the α-amylase of the insect gut was affected by the presence of the seed extracts. In the gel assay, a high concentration (14 μg protein) of amaranth proteinaceous seed extract greatly decreased the intensity of the α-amylase band. A high concentration of the Aflak wheat cultivar (10 μg protein) caused the disappearance of the amylase band in the gel. Thus, it is concluded that the physiochemical environment of the insect gut affects the interaction between digestive α-amylase and the metabolites. The experiments showed that seed proteinaceous extracts from non-host plant species, produced more inhibition of the insect amylase when compared to the host plant species. It appears that with evolution, adaptation took place so that insect/s could overcome the plant metabolites.

Bollworms comprise the most harmful and economically relevant species of lepidopteran. Helicoverpa gelotopoeon (D.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is native to America and affects many crops. Tobacco is an industrial crop in which methods of pest control rely mainly on the application of insecticides. To develop new eco-friendly strategies against insect pests it is very important to overcome the side effects of insecticides. The utilization of fungal entomopathogens as endophytes is a new perspective that may accomplish good results. The present study aimed to evaluate the ability of endophytic Beauveria bassiana (Bals.-Criv.) Vuill. to affect H. gelotopoeon life parameters and feeding behavior on tobacco plants. Beauveria bassiana LPSC 1215 as an endophyte did not reduce the amount of vegetal material consumed by H. gelotopoeon larvae but affected the life cycle period of the plague, particularly the larval and adult stages. Also, egg fertility was affected since adults laid eggs that were not able to hatch. The results of this investigation provide new information on endophytic entomopathogen potential to be incorporated in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.

The tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) is one of the most devastating pests of greenhouse and outdoor tomato crops. Since it is a newly introduced pest in Iran, there is an important need to search for its natural enemies. In the course of a survey on the natural enemies of this pest, samplings were carried out in tomato greenhouses heavily infested with the tomato leafminer, in the Borazjan region of the Bushehr province in Iran. Leaves with mines were reared in the laboratory until emergence of parasitoids. A single parasitoid species of the family Eulophidae was reared and identified as Neochrysocharis formosus (Westwood 1833). This species is reported for the first time on the tomato leafminer in Iran. Such information may help in developing biological control programs to control this serious pest.

Opis:
The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick), is a major worldwide pest of tomato crops, both in the greenhouse and in open field cultivations. Since this pest’s new introduction in Iran, it has caused extensive damage. Chemicals have mainly been used to control this pest. The purpose of our research was to identify the indigenous predators of the tomato leafminer, associated with tomato in the Borazjan region of the Bushehr province, Iran. From March to May 2014, infested tomato leaves were collected from protected tomato crops. A predator species from the family Miridae was found, reared, and identified as Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter 1895). This species is reported for the first time on tomato leafminer in Iran. Identification of important natural enemies provides a scientific basis for including these predators in the biological programs against this pest.

The use of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) to control insect pests has already been established in various agronomic and forest crops. It is a bacterium that does not pollute the environment, is safe for mammals and vertebrates, lacks toxicity to plants and specifically targets insects. To date in-depth studies have not been conducted about the use of Bt to control the main pest of mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) and other Meliaceae species, the Hypsipyla grandella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). Therefore, this study aimed to test the pathogenicity of Bt strains on H. grandella caterpillars, as well to determine the lethal concentration required to kill 50% of the population (LC50) of the most promising strains. Ten strains of Bt toxic to lepidopteran proven in previous trials were used and these were incorporated into a natural diet with mahogany seeds to check their mortality. The LC50 of the top five strains was determined. The results indicate that H. grandella is highly susceptible to Bt toxins and the S1905 strain is highly toxic. Therefore, the use of Bt strains may be a tool to be incorporated into the integrated management of this important pest.

The effects of pyriproxyfen were determined on the cellular immunity and phenoloxidase activity in the 4th instar larvae of Chilo suppressalis Walker. The bioassay results revealed the effective concentrations of: 10L : 18C, 30L : 72C and 50L : 190C μg · ml–1. The sole effect of 18 and 72 μg · ml–1 concentrations at intervals of 1–3 h caused a higher number of total hemocytes in the treated larvae than the control, but the reverse results were observed after 6–24 h. The number of plasmatocytes was lower than that of the control for intervals of 3–24 h but the number of granulocytes was higher than the control after 1–3 h although no significant differences were observed at the other times. In the treated larvae, the activities of phenoloxidase were higher and lower than those of the control after 1–3 h and 6–24 h, respectively. The combined effects of pyriproxyfen and the entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana isolate B3 caused higher numbers of total hemocytes, plasmatocytes, and granulocytes in the treated larvae by use of the three concentrations of pyriproxyfen, at intervals of 6 and 12 h. Although the numbers of nodules in the larvae treated with concentrations of 18 μg · ml–1 were higher than those of other treatments, the overall numbers were lower than those of the control. Finally, the activity of phenoloxidase in the treated larvae was higher than that of the control, at intervals of 6 and 12 h post-treatment. Findings of the current study indicate an intervening role of pyriproxyfen in the cellular immunity of C. suppressalis to entomopathogenic objects.

The Brazilian poplar moth is the most important pest of poplar plantations in Brazil. This research evaluated the effect of Beauveria bassiana Bals. (Vuill.) on the mortality and development of Condylorrhiza vestigialis Guen. (Lepidoptera: Crambidae). The aim was to develop alternative methods for management of this pest. The pathogens were sprayed on poplar leaves and consequently, the pathogens reached the caterpillars. Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki Berliner was sprayed as the standard treatment. The spray for the control was distilled water. Both pathogens B. bassiana and B. thuringiensis affected insect development with increase mortality at each stage of the insect cycle, reaching a satisfactory control level. Microbial control of Brazilian poplar moth with B. bassiana is promising. Tests with other strains and species of pathogens, mainly under field conditions, were also encouraging. This is the first report about the action of B. bassiana against C. vestigialis.

Solanaceous plants have a great economic impact in Egypt. These groups of plants include potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants. The new invasive pest of tomatoes, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) causes the greatest crop losses which can range from 60 to 100%. After its detection in Egypt during the last half of 2009, it spread quickly to all provinces in the country. We aiming to propose a sustainable control program for this devastating pest. In this research we tested three groups of control agents. The first was microbial and natural, the second – plant extracts and the third – chemical insecticides. Our results showed that the impact of T. absoluta can be greatly reduced by the use of sustainable control measures represented by different insecticide groups. Bioassay experiments showed that this devastating pest can be controlled with some compounds that give high mortality rates. Of these compounds, spinosad and Beauveria bassiana, microbial control agents, followed by azadirachtin, gave the best results in controlling T. absoluta. Of the chemical insecticides, lambda-cyhalotrin was the most effective, followed by lufenuron and profenofos. In conclusion we encourage farmers to use microbial and natural control measures in combating the tomato leafminer, T. absoluta, in Integrated Pest Mangement (IPM) programs.

The effects of sublethal concentrations of spinosad (Tracer®) on development, fecundity, and food utilization, in the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) were investigated. The fourth-instar larvae were fed on castor bean leaves treated with LC25 (13.9 ppm) or LC50 (57.8 ppm) of spinosad. Pupation and pupal weight were significantly reduced in both LC25 and LC50 treatments, compared with those of the controls. The fecundity rates of females in either LC25 or LC50 treatment were also reduced, compared with the controls. The residual activity of spinosad, applied on cotton at labeled field- and subfield-rates (200 and 70 g active substance (a.s.)/ 200 l water, respectively), was examined against the fifth-instar larvae of S. littoralis. Feeding deterrent effects were significantly demonstrated in larvae that fed on leaves collected from field plots with residual deposits of spinosad at 3 and 7 days old after application (DAA). The residual activity of spinosad on feeding and other metabolic parameters was decreased after 21 DAA indicating that the chemical started to degrade under field conditions. A histological study on midgut from larvae that previously fed on leaves treated with a concentration corresponding to the labeled-field rate of spinosad showed some alterations occurred after 48 and 96 h of treatment, compared to the normal midgut from the controls. The histological alterations included degeneration in the epithelial lining of the midgut and in the peritrophic matrix. Such histopathological effects are presumed to be responsible for the reduction in growth and food utilization caused by spinosad. It is, therefore, concluded that spinosad has sublethal effects on S. littoralis that may affect population dynamics in the field via reductions in survival and reproduction.

The carob moth, Ectomyelois ceratoniae (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is a cosmopolitan species widely distributed in different habitats worldwide. This moth is a well known pest of many fruits as well as dried fruits in storage. In this study, the biological parameters of the carob moth were studied in a growth chamber under controlled conditions (30±2°C, 65±5% and 16L : 8D). The studied moths were on four diets including pistachio, and pomegranate (both are referred to as the natural diets), and semi-synthetic, and synthetic food. The results demonstrated that survival rate of the carob moth on the two natural diets was higher than the survival rate of the carob moth on the semi-synthetic, and synthetic diets (also referred to as the artificial diets). The highest and lowest amount of life expectancy (ex) were obtained for moths on the pistachio diet (38.82), and the pomegranate diet (29.32), respectively. The highest age-stage specific reproductive value (vxj) was observed for moths on the pistachio diet (181.1). The intrinsic rate of increase (r) and finite rate of increase (λ) were calculated to be highest when the pomegranate diet was used (0.091 and 1.096) and lowest when the synthetic diet was used (0.06) and (1.062). The highest amounts of net reproductive rate and mean fecundity were obtained for moths fed the pistachio diet and the lowest were for moths fed the synthetic diet. Our results also showed that the mean generation times were 48.32, 44.42, 37.19, and 42 days for moths fed synthetic food, pistachio, pomegranate, and semi-synthetic food, respectively. The outcome of this research can be used to effectively select the most useful rearing of carob moths for using them in natural pheromone traps as Integrated Pest Management programs.

Opis:
Ethephon (ETF), one of the plant growth regulators, is used in agricultural systems as a valuable tool due to its property of regulating fruit maturation. Here, we aimed to investigate the toxic effects of ETF on the hemolymph metabolites of the greater wax moth, G. mellonella which is an experimental animal and a serious pest in wax. Different doses of ETF (250-390 μg/5 μl) were injected with force feeding method to the last instars and the effects of ETF on the level of hemolymph protein, lipid, and glucose were estimated spectrophotometrically at 24 and 48 h after treatments. The levels of protein, glucose, and lipid in hemolymph showed dose- and time-dependent changes. These results indicated that treatment with ETF may result in significant physiological changes in pests. Consequently, it is likely that ETF can be a promising agent for use in integrated pest management programs as ecofriendly biopesticides.

Opis:
Control failure of pests and selectivity of insecticides to beneficial arthropods are key data for the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the control failure likelihood of Plutella xylostella and the physiological selectivity active ingredients to parasitoid Oomyzus sokolowskii (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) and to predators Polybia scutellaris (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) and Lasiochilus sp. (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae). In bioassays, P. xylostella larvae and O. sokolowskii, P. scutellaris and Lasiochilus sp. adults were used. Concentration-mortality curves of six insecticides for P. xylostella were established. These curves were used to estimate the mortality of P. xylostella at the recommended concentration, in order to check a control failure of insecticides to this pest. Furthermore, the lethal concentration for 90% of populations (LC90) and the half of LC90 were used in bioassays with the natural enemies to determine the selectivity of these insects to insecticides. All tested insecticides showed control failure to P. xylostella, indicated by high LC90 and low estimated mortalities (less than 80%). The cartap insecticide was selective in half of LC90 to Lasiochilus sp. and moderately selective in LC90 and the half of LC90, to Lasiochilus sp. and P. scutellaris, respectively. Deltamethrin was moderately selective in the half of LC90 to predator Lasiochilus sp. Cartap, carbaryl, and deltamethrin reduced the mortality of Lasiochilus sp. in the half LC90. The results also showed that the insecticides methamidophos, carbaryl, parathion methyl and permethrin were not selective to any of the tested natural enemies. The role of insecticides in IPM systems of Brassica crops is discussed based on their control failures to P. xylostella and selectivity to their natural enemies.

Opis:
The choice of host plants by the phytophagous insects depends on a number of factors, including secondary metabolites which as “specific plant substances” have a significant influence not only on the physiology and behaviour of plant-eating insects but also on the chemism of plants’ defense. The present paper determined the effect of the feeding of Acrobasis advenella caterpillars on the content of flavonoids, phenolic acids and tannins in the inflorescences of two species of host plants, namely Aronia melanocarpa and Sorbus aucuparia. The content of flavonoids and phenolic acids in the extracts of both plants where caterpillars were feeding was lower as compared to the extracts from control plants. It was found out that the content of tannins in the plant material of S. aucuparia where caterpillars were feeding increased in comparison to the control material. In 2009, their content was found to be more than 1.5 times higher, reaching over 13% of DW. A reverse reaction was observed in the case of A. melanocarpa, where the content of tannins dropped significantly. The value of that parameter in 2009 decreased more than 1.5 times and it was 5.42% of DW, while in 2010 the decrease was 2-fold, reaching 2.61% of DW.
Przeciwną reakcję obserwowano w przypadku A. melanocarpa, gdzie zawartość garbników znacznie spadła, w 2009 r. ponad 1,5-krotnie i wyniosła 5,42% suchej masy, a w roku 2010 – 2-krotnie, osiągając 2,61%.

Opis:
Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is grown widely in the world because the seeds are rich source of protein for the rapidly increasing population. However, the production and productivity of chickpea have been experienced drastically because of biotic and abiotic stresses. It is vulnerable to a broad range of pathogens and the mainly severe pest being gram pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera. For the management of this serious pest, application of insecticides has several adverse effects on living organisms and the environment as a whole, the use of biological agents for chickpea improvement appears to be appropriate approach. Various studies by different scholars on the effect of different bio-agents against H. armigera have been carried out and found to confer resistance to pod borer. The use of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) based microbial insecticides have become an integral part of IPM approaches, particularly because these preparations provide an environmentally suitable alternative to the generally hazardeous broad-spectrum chemical insecticides. These bacterial insecticides like Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV), which is target specific and exert no effect on beneficial organisms (e.g. parasitoids and predators). Most natural populations of H. armigera have at least some degree of infection by species-specific NPVs. When the degree of NPV infection can be enhanced, H. armigera larval population can be decimated, without deleterious effects on any other organisms. Various potentially effective parasitoids, like ichneumonid, Campoletis chloridae and Trichogramma spp., are found parasitizing eggs and larvae of H. armigera infesting chickpea. Various insectivorous birds and use of bird perches have long been observed to be effective predators of H. armigera larvae. Similarly various plant extracts have shown insecticidal properties and can be used effectively on field crops. Use of different bio-agents and botanicals having easy ways of formulation, cost effective, environmentally suitable and no or

Opis:
In the current study, the entomotoxic effects of a lectin, extracted from Polygonum persicaria, were determined on Pieris brassicae larvae. The purified molecule significantly decreased larval survival, weight, and mass protein. Different concentrations of P. persicaria agglutinin (PPA) (0.5, 1 and 2 mg/ml) significantly decreased nutritional indices including: the efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI), the efficiency of conversion of digested food (ECD), and approximate digestibility (AD) in a dose-dependent manner. There was a significant decrease in larval α-amylase activity after larval fed on PPA. The decreased activity was found in both the biochemical assessment and gel electrophoresis; sharpness of one isozyme decreased and another completely disappeared. Meanwhile, PPA significantly decreased activities of glucosidases mainly β-glucosidase. Fed of P. brassicae larvae on different concentrations of PPA, significantly decreased activity of TAG-lipase in both the biochemical assessment and gel electrophoresis. It was found that alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and acid phosphatase (ACP) were also affected by PPA but concentrations of 1 and 2 mg/ml showed statistical differences compared to the control. General and specific proteolytic activities statistically decreased after larvae fed on different concentrations of PPA. Results of our study could bring attention to this molecule, showing it to be a safe and efficient control of the pest worldwide.

Opis:
In recent years, a local, growing population of cutworm in agricultural fields with various plants such as vegetables, horticultural, and ornamental plants has been observed. The scope of our research covered the observation of two species of cutworms: Agrotis segetum (Schiff.) and A. exclamationis (L.), which are the most dominant species in Poland. Cutworms were monitored in the 2005-2009 season with the use of Delta type pheromone traps with synthetic sexual pheromone and self-catch traps with a light source. The purpose of the research was to determine the dependence between the dynamics of the catches and the location of the traps, in fields with sugar beet, winter barley, and winter wheat in two municipalities: Winna Góra and Więcławice for the two studied cutworm species. Moreover, we used light traps in our analysis of the two studied cutworm species’, flight dynamics in Poznań, Winna Góra, and Więcławice in the 2003-2006 time period. The overall results can be used for adjusting the currently used monitoring methods for short-term and long-term forecasting of cutworm flights, and for optimizing chemical control of the cutworm.
