Dokonano analizy możliwości pozyskania biomasy leśnej na cele energetyczne w wybranym nadleśnictwie. Obecnie z przyczyn ekonomicznych niemożliwie jest pozyskiwanie biomasy z drewna pniakowego i korzeni. Z uwagi na duże zapotrzebowanie przemysłu przetwórczego na przestrzeni ostatnich lat w bilansie pozyskania biomasy leśnej w Nadleśnictwie Pomorze udział drewna energetycznego wynosi około 15%. Zgodnie z analizą strukturalną prac hodowlanych oraz zrębowych możliwe jest zwiększenie pozyskania biomasy leśnej nawet do ok. 50%.
An analysis is presented of possible acquisition of forest biomass for energy purposes in the selected forest district. Currently, due to economic reasons it is impossible to acquire biomass from stump wood and roots. Due to high demand of the processing industry over the past years in the balance of forest biomass acquisition in the forest district of Pomerania wood energy share is about 15%. According to the structural analysis of breeding and cutting operations it is possible to increase the acquisition of forest biomass up to about 50%.

The paper contains the results of studies relating to the construction of the future strategy for development of forests and forestry, which were based on reports relating to the condition of forests and forestry, and the results of the last inventory of forests in Poland. It was found that realisation of the forest management by State Forests is correct and consistent with the principles of sustainable development and principles of the development of multifunctional forest. It is also static, without the proposal of innovative solutions, under−performing both its economic strength and accumulated intellectual capital and practical experience.

Opis:
Forest management is a scientific discipline designed to develop methods of maintaining forest areas and to ensure the sustainable development of forest resources in terms and conditions of multifunctional forestry. This is a branch of practical forestry which deals with inventorying and assessing the state of forests, defines economic tasks and draws up a program of nature conservation for forest districts. The paper presents legal conditions related to the concept of forest management plan, as well as issues related to the area division, planning economic indications and their role for the forest environment. Authors present a forecast of impact of a forest management plan on the forest environment and the Natura 2000 sites.
Urządzanie lasu to dyscyplina naukowa mająca za zadanie wypracowanie metod prowadzenia lasu zapewniających realizację zasady trwałego i zrównoważonego rozwoju zasobów leśnych w warunkach leśnictwa wielofunkcyjnego. To dział praktycznego leśnictwa zajmujący się inwentaryzacją i oceną stanu lasu, określeniem zadań hodowlanych i ochronnych oraz sporządzeniem programu ochrony przyrody dla nadleśnictwa, przede wszystkim na najbliższych dziesięć lat, ale także w dłuższym horyzoncie czasowym. Całość zebranych danych wraz z ich analizą stanowi podstawę planu urządzenia lasu. W pracy przedstawiono wybrane aspekty urządzania lasu mające istotne znaczenie z punktu widzenia środowiska leśnego.

W artykule przedstawiono generalną klasyfikację środków smarnych, które powinny być stosowane w sektorze leśnym i rolniczym. Autorzy podkreślają, że oleje mineralne są szkodliwe dla środowiska naturalnego, a nieprzetworzony olej rzepakowy może być przyczyną uszkodzeń smarowanych nim narzędzi i maszyn. Rozkład mineralnego oleju w glebie może trwać ponad sto lat i w tym czasie powodować skażenie wód gruntowych. Przedstawiono wyniki prac badawczych Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego i Przemysłowego Instytutu Maszyn Rolniczych dotyczących badań olejów biodegradowalnych oraz przedstawiono koncepcję nowej metodyki badań. Badania wskazują, że tzw. biodegradowalne środki smarne powinny być sprawdzane pod kątem jakości lub też powinny posiadać odpowiedni certyfikat wydany przez uprawnioną instytucję badawczą. Autorzy zgłaszają potrzebę ustanowienia Policji Ekologicznej, której zadaniem byłoby monitorowanie narzędzi, maszyn i pojazdów zagrażających bezpieczeństwu środowiska naturalnego.
The paper presents general classification of biodegradable means that should be used in forestry and agricultural sectors. Authors underline that mineral oil is dangerous for environment and raw rape oil can cause damage of equipment (hand chainsaws covered by dry out layer left from oil spray). Traditional lubricants based on mineral oils are ultimately biodegradable though the slow rate of decomposition means, sometimes, that they can exist as a contaminant in ground water for almost hundred years. Agricultural University and Industrial Institute of Agricultural Engineering in Poznan research works on biodegradable oils for chainsaws are present as well as new concept of improvement of lab stands and measuring techniques (new chainsaw stand, laser, thermography). R&D results show that so called biodegradable oils and greases should be verified or should be certified by specialized research institution. Authors have an idea of establishing Ecological Police for supervising machines, tools and vehicles treathing for natural environment.

Opis:
The current provisions in the EU directive, applicable to the signatories of the document, assume reaching by 2020 a share of at least 20% of energy coming from renewable sources. The EU Parliament demands changes to the current directive on forest biomass and its contribution to the use of renewable energy. The Parliament considers it expedient to increase the amount of forest biomass obtained, including wood in various processing states, treating this solution as one of the active methods of replacing the energy derived from fossil fuels. The definition proposed by the EU Parliament states that countries and industrial plants in their areas can receive financial assistance and also be included in the group of energy users ‘from renewable sources’ if they obtain it from the combustion of wood, which will be collected only for this purpose. Such a case has led to the protest of over 750 scientists from around the world. In a letter sent from researchers to the EU, it was found that only harvested forest biomass coming exclusively from logging residues and wood waste, and not from wood intended for other use, should be taken into account for the purpose. Signatories of the letter warn that this change puts at risk both the global climate goals and maintaining the sustainability of the world’s forests. At the heart of the argument is the conviction of scientists that the defect of the directive is based on such a construction of regulations that will cause actions that cause expansive damage to forests in the world and accelerate the occurring climate change. The proposed solution is to limit the amount of forest biomass obtained only to the part that qualifies according to the directive, for logging residues and wood waste. The real danger, including concerning the stability of forests, is the possibility of overestimating the forest’s production capacity in supplying forest biomass. This claim is not an expression of academic caution. It is a real threat. The history of overestimation of forest potential is as long as the history of human development and in each case ended up with a total degradation of the forest and the lack of resources that forced migration of the population. This threat, both on a global scale and for our country, is high, first of all, because the implementation of energy policy assumptions, just like an agricultural policy, in each case leads to the direct growth of producers’ incomes. They are always higher, as are profits in other economic sectors, from revenue received from forest management. This income asymmetry may stimulate in our country, and in many countries of the world is already stimulating, changes in forest management leading to the reduction of forest biological diversity, as well as the growth of deforestation.

W Polsce oraz czynniki determinujące ich występowanie. Sylwan 160 (10): 795−804. In recent years, rapid changes related to forest operations have been observed in the forestry sector in Poland. A growing number of harvesters, an increased volume of harvested timber and a larger proportion of broadleaved species are considered the most important. The objective of this paper was to recognise the dynamics of harvester fleet change in Poland. In particular, there was an emphasis on finding out: 1) the total number of harvesters currently used in Poland (with respect to regions), 2) where and what type of machines were bought, and 3) which main factors influence the occurrence of these machines. In January 2014, a survey was sent to all forest districts. Questions related to harvesters and relevant for this paper included information about: 1) the number of harvesters in use, 2) the serial number of each harvester, 3) place of purchase (within the country or abroad), 4) status of the machine when bought (new or used), and 5) the forest district, in which an open tender was won for 2014. To avoid double counting the same harvester working in two or more forest districts, the serial number of each machine was used for identification. There were 368 harvesters reported in the survey in early 2014, although at the end of 2015 this number rose to 530 machines. The Central−West, North−West and North of Poland had the highest number of harvesters. Most of the harvesters were bought as used, though there may be a growing trend towards the purchase of new machines. A strong correlation was observed between the number of machines used in a region and the total area of lowland coniferous sites and forests, as well as the volume of harvested merchantable softwood. Currently, private forests and broadleaved species are the main factors limiting the application of harvesters in Poland.

Opis:
Development of innovative solutions in forestry requires also that students of forestry would understand in greater extend the complex system of changes in the environment and the way the man controls these changes. It is also another challenge (innovation?) for the forest education at all levels. At the level of university education, forestry in the first half of the XXI century needs to find appropriate proposals for the methods and techniques of training, involving not only the transition from ‘teaching' to ‘learning'. To evaluate the level and depth of knowledge, and above all, the ability to solve problems is also the task of the future employer. These require both a corresponding adjustment of ongoing educational programs and curricula or creation of a completely new approach, which will be also accompanied by new methods of checking the effectiveness of the applied solutions.
