Opis:
The synthetic ZnAl$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{4}$ spinels doped with Cr$\text{}^{3+}$ ions are prepared from ZnSO$\text{}_{4}$, Al$\text{}_{2}$(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{3}$, and Cr$\text{}_{2}$(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{3}$. The spinel single phase is detected from X-ray diffraction. Luminescence properties of Cr$\text{}^{3+}$ in ZnAl$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{4}$ were studied by low temperature luminescence and decay measurements. Four luminescence lines at 14570, 14520, 14460, and 14330 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ were found to originate from structure distortion and the line at 14175 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ - from chromium pairs. The broad emission band at about 13540 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ is considered to arise from a new Cr$\text{}^{3+}$ center in ZnCr$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{4}$.

Opis:
It is well known that from the two fundamental thermodynamic parameters pressure p is much more efficient in transformation of the matter state than temperature T. Optical breakdown in a form of microexplosion proved to be a simple, cheap, and efficient source of transient extreme pressure and temperature. Our interest is focused on the breakdown performed with femstosecond laser pulses both on a surface and in the bulk of material. The paper delivers some examples of the transformation effects observed mostly in the transparent dielectrics under irradiation with femtosecond laser pulses.

Opis:
Shear stress is a key parameter that plays an important role in sediment transport mechanisms; therefore, understanding shear stress distribution in rivers, and especially in river bends, is necessary to predict erosion, deposition mechanisms and lateral channel migration. The aim of this study is to analyze the shear stress distribution near a river bed at 90-degree channel bend using a depth-average method based on experimental measurement data. Bed shear stress distribution is calculated using the depth-averaged method based on velocity components data has been collected from a 3D-ADV device (three-dimensional acoustic doppler velocity) at different locations of a meandering channel. Laboratory experiments have been made at the hydraulic laboratory of the RCRFIDF (Research Center for River Flow Impingement and Debris Flow), Gangneung-Wonju National University, South Korea to provide data for simulating the incipient motion of the riverbed materials and then predicting the river morphological changes in the curved rivers. The calculated results show that the maximum value of shear stress distribution near the riverbed in the different cross sections of the surveyed channel occurs in a 70-degree cross section and occurs near the outer bank. From the beginning of a 40-degree curved channel section, the maximum value of the shear stress occurs near the outer bank at the end of the channel.

Opis:
Rothmannia wittii, which is found in Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Bung Rieng ward, Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Vietnam, is a rare species of Rubiaceae family. The present study aimed to determine the phytochemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extract of the R. wittii trunk. A total of 10 compounds were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrophotometry (LC-MS), including 1) benzene, 1-(1,5-dimethyl-4- hexenyl)-4-methyl, 2) diphenylsulfone, 3) 6β-hydroxy-10-O-acetylgenipin, 4) cinnamyl-cinnamate, 5) genipin, 6) megastigmatrienone, 7) ethyl p-methoxy-trans-cinnamate, 8) rothalazepane, 9) 1,3,6-trimethylpyrano[2,3-d ]imidazole-2,5(1H,3H)-dione, and 10) shanzhiol. The extract also exhibited an antibacterial activity against six bacterial strains: Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium and Salmonella enteritidis, as determined via disk diffusion agar method.

Opis:
Magnesium-manganese (Mg-Mn) based alloys with various chemical composition were processed by indirect extrusion at two different speeds. Alloying with Mn and rare earth elements has significant influence on the microstructure and on the texture of the alloys under investigation. This paper deals with the acoustic emission analysis of the deformation behavior of the extruded Mg-Mn alloys. The acoustic emission measurements were performed during the uniaxial tension and compression tests, and the obtained results are discussed with respect to the influence of rare-earth elements on the deformation behavior, particularly in terms of the activation of dislocation glide and twinning.

Opis:
An isolated posterior cervical vertebra of a sauropod discovered at Phu Dan Ma (Kalasin Province, northeastern Thailand) is the first informative postcranial specimen from the Phu Kradung Formation, a Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous continental unit. The vertebra is referred to the family Mamenchisauridae, otherwise mainly known from China. In addition, spatulate teeth from the same formation and a mid−dorsal vertebra from the Upper Jurassic Khlong Min Formation of southern Thailand are reassigned to this family. The occurrence of mamenchisaurids in the earliest Cretaceous of Thailand supports a hypothesis of geographical isolation of Central, Eastern, and Southeast Asia during the Late Jurassic. It also suggests that the main changes in their dinosaur assemblages occurred during the Early Cretaceous, rather than at the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary.
