    Opis:
    The problem of designing a stabilizing feedback controller for an underactuated system is a challenging one since a nonlinear system is not stabilizable by a smooth static state feedback law. A necessary condition for the asymptotical stabilization of an underactuated vehicle to a single equilibrium is that its gravitational field has nonzero elements corresponding to unactuated dynamics. However, global asymptotical stability (GAS) cannot be guaranteed. In this paper, a robust proportional-integralderivative (PID) controller on actuated dynamics is proposed and unactuated dynamics are shown to be global exponentially bounded by the Sordalen lemma. This gives a necessary and sufficient condition to guarantee the global asymptotic stability (GAS) of the URV system. The proposed method is first adopted on a remotely-operated vehicle RRC ROV II designed by the Robotic Research Centre in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Through the simulation using the ROV Design and Analysis toolbox (RDA) written at the NTU in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment, the RRC ROV II is robust against parameter perturbations.

    Midstream operation (MSO) has played an important role in Hong Kong's port business since the 1960s. MSO has been seriously neglected in maritime transport research in the past. In the course of filling this significant research gap, we aim to address how a new type of harbor vessel – Port Feeder Barge (PFB) can strengthen the sustainability and attractiveness of MSO in Hong Kong and of the port in general. By introducing such type of vessel MSO becomes much safer and faster, much more efficient with less manpower being needed, provides higher flexibility and causes less environmental impact compared to the traditional Hong Kong midstream barges (HK barges). Due to its special layout as a deck carrier the PFB is also very well suited to be optionally fuelled with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) which would result into an ultimate "green" harbor vessel. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews with a number of maritime professionals involved in MSO activities in Hong Kong have revealed how PFBs could be employed in MSO, the potential regulatory issues and operating challenges and the critical success factors for further PFB deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. The study provides insights how the PFB could provide notable advantages for a sustainable recovery of MSO in Hong Kong.

    W pracy przeanalizowano dynamikę plonowania łąk górskich w Małych Pieninach, na dwóch obiektach doświadczalnych, w okresie dwudziestopięciolecia od zaprzestania nawożenia mineralnego. Określono także potencjalne możliwości utrzymania na 1 ha łąki pogłowia krów mlecznych (w DJP), z założeniem, że siano stanowi podstawę ich wyżywienia. Badania prowadzono na obiektach doświadczalnych Stacji Badawczej Małopolskiego Ośrodka Badawczego, dawnego Instytutu Melioracji i Użytków Zielonych (obecnie ITP). Obiekt I był zlokalizowany na wysokości 600, a obiekt II 800 m n.p.m. Z poletek o powierzchni 20 m² na obiekcie I zbierano trzy, a na II dwa pokosy zielonej masy, i po wysuszeniu próbek w 105°C określano plon absolutnie suchej masy w przeliczeniu na ha. W ciągu dwudziestu pięciu lat badań średnie plony łąk po zaprzestaniu nawożenia obniżyły się na I obiekcie o 26,9%, a na II o 26,3%. Średnie plonowanie na obiekcie II było o 14,1% mniejsze. Obsada krów mlecznych możliwa do utrzymania z założeniem, że są wyłącznie żywione paszą łąkową zmniejszyła się z 0,74 do 0,57 na obiekcie I i z 0,57 do 0,42 DJP·ha-¹ na obiekcie II. Wynika z tego jednoznacznie, że wieloletnie zaprzestanie nawożenia, co często jest obecnie praktykowane w małych gospodarstwach górskich, znacznie ogranicza efektywność produkcyjną.
    In this study dynamics of the mountain meadow yielding in Small Pieniny Mountains was analyzed, on two experimental objects in period of 25 years after fertilisation abandonment. Also potential possibilities of preservation on 1 ha meadow, dairy cattle stock (in LAU), on the under standing that hay is the basis of their alimentation was defined. Research was conducted on experimental objects of the Research Station of Małopolska Research Centre former Institute for Land Reclamation and Grassland Farming. Object I was located at height of 600 m a.s.l., and II at 800 m a.s.l. From the 20 m² plot on object 1 were taken three harvests, and on the object II two swaths, and after dryling samples in 105°C the crop of absolutely dry extract was defined. Over the 25 years of research period, average meadow crops after fertilisation abandonment on object I got down by 26.9%, and on the second by 26.3%. Average yielding on the second object was 14.1% lower. Cattle manning converting to dairy, possible to preservation on the understanding that cattle is feeded strictly by pasture forage, got down from 0.74 to 0.57 on object I, and from 0.57 to 0.42 LAU·ha-¹ on object II. It expressly shows that perennial desistance of fertilising, which currently is frequently practice in small mountains farms, significantly stints production efficiency.

    In Joseph Conrad’s novel Under Western Eyes (1911), Razumov is a kinless university student in St. Petersburg who involuntarily becomes the government’s agent as regard to espionage because of an unwelcome visit from the revolutionist student Haldin. This paper makes use of C.T. Watts’ article “Under Western Eyes: The Haunted Haunts” published in 2008 as a framework to investigate Razumov’s psychological journey: beginning with his decision to betray Haldin through to the consequential action of making a confession to the latter’s sister, Nathalie. Watts’ article explores both the haunting and exorcist aspects of the novel upon its author, characters and, possibly. the reader. The article primarily focuses on how Conrad’s novel intentionally mimics Crime and Punishment (1866). Several aspects of the narrative reveal to us that Conrad failed in avenging the haunting effect Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s work had upon him. In this paper, the rationale behind Razumov’s confession will be investigated in understanding how both physical and mental exhaustion stimulate moral struggles and alter one’s assumed ideology. Emphasis will be made on the transformation of Razumov in terms of the effect of acquiring domestic connections and arriving in different geographical locations as the plot complicates.

    Strategic competition and rivalry between the United States and China has become a paradigm of international relations in the past decade. Central to this growing strategic distrust between Washington and Beijing is the tug of war between the US-led Indo-Pacific strategy and China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). However, the role of China’s ‘peaceful rise/peaceful development’ strategy and assertive nationalism characteristic of Chinese foreign policymaking in creating an atmosphere of tension and misunderstanding between Beijing and Washington have been largely overlooked. This paper, therefore, seeks to understand the relationship between the rise and fall of China’s ‘peaceful rise/peaceful development’ concept, the emerging prominence of assertive nationalism in China’s foreign policy making and a deteriorating US-China relations with deepening strategic mistrust between the two major powers through a comparative-historical analysis of China’s BRI and the US-led Indo-Pacific strategy. Rather than demonstrating China’s commitment to its ‘peaceful rise/peaceful development’ to the world, this paper argues that Beijing’s offensive to defend China’s national interests in a confrontational manner is an indication that an increasingly confident Chinese leadership no longer feels the need for reassuring the world that China's ‘rise’ is peaceful and non-threatening in nature. This could embolden Beijing to defy (if not explicitly challenge) the ‘rules-based international order’ upheld/defended by Washington, thereby spelling the end of China’s ‘peaceful rise/peaceful development’ strategy.
