W artykule przedstawiono wieloletnie zabiegi, by utworzyć w Krakowie wyższe studia górnicze. Pierwsze próby sięgają jeszcze przełomu XVIII i XIX w., kiedy to Hugo Kołłątaj w projekcie reformy Akademii Krakowskiej proponował umieszczenie nauki górnictwa w programie nauczania. W pierwszej połowie XIX w. powstał projekt instytutu górnictwa przy Szkole Głównej Krakowskiej (1816), a później katedry górnictwa w Instytucie Technicznym (1848). W 1867 r. projektowano nawet utworzenie przy Instytucie Technicznym osobnego wydziału górnictwa. Wszystkie późniejsze pomysły upadły po reorganizacji Instytutu Technicznego i utworzeniu na jego bazie średniej Państwowej Szkoły Przemysłowej. Pewną namiastką studiów górniczych był organizowany od 1885 r. w politechnice lwowskiej „kurs przygotowawczy dla kandydatów zawodu górniczego”, którego jednak nie udało się przekształcić w pełnoprawny wydział górniczy. Na początku XX w. zabiegi o założenie w Krakowie wyższej szkoły górniczej, przy wielkim poparciu Rady Miasta Krakowa oraz zaangażowaniu środowiska polskich inżynierów górniczych z inż. Janem Zarańskim na czele, znów przybrały na sile. Ukoronowaniem wieloletnich zabiegów było najwyższe postanowienie cesarza Franciszka Józefa z 31 maja 1913 r. o utworzeniu Akademii Górniczej w Krakowie. Nowo powołana uczelnia miała rozpocząć działalność w październiku 1914 r., niestety wybuch wojny przesunął ten moment na rok 1919.
The article presents many years’ efforts to set up university level education for miners. The first attempts reach as far back as the turn of the 18th and the 19th century, which is when Hugo Kołłątaj suggested including mining science in the education syllabus in the Cracow Academy reorganization project. School (1816) (at present the Jagiellonian University) was set up, and later, of a chair of mining at the Technical Institute (1848). In 1967 it was even planned to established a separate mining department at the Technical Institute. All subsequent projects were dropped after the reorganization of the Technical Institute and founding the middle-level State Industrial School on its basis. A certain substitute for mining studies was „a preparatory course for mining profession candidates” organised at the Lviv Polytechnic from 1885, however the efforts of its transformation into a full mining faculty failed. At the beginning of the 20th century efforts to establish a university level mining school in Cracow, with great support of the Cracow City Council and the involvement of Polish mining engineers’ community under Eng. Jan Zarański’s leadership, increased. The ultimate achievement of many years efforts was the highest resolution of Emperor Franciszek Józef of May 31, 1913 on the establishment of a mining academy in Cracow. The newly founded university was to begin its activity in October 1914, unfortunately the outbreak of the war moved this moment to 1919.

Opis:
The safety of mining operations in hard coal mines must be constantly developed and improved. There is ongoing multi-directional research focused at best recognition of the phenomenon associated with the properties of the coal-gas system and its connections with mining and geological conditions. This article presents the results of sorption experiments on coals from the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, which are characterized by varying degrees of coalification. One of the parameters that describes the kinetics of methane sorption, determining and providing valuable information about gas hazard and in particular the risk of gas and rock outbursts, is the effective diffusion coefficient De. It is derived from the solution of Fick’s second law using many simplifying assumptions. Among them is the assumption that the carbon matrix consists of only one type of pore-micropores. In fact, there are quite often at least two different mechanisms, which are connected to each other, related to the diffusion of methane from the microporous matrix and flows occurring in voids and macropores. This article presents both the unipore and bidisperse models and a set of comparisons which fit them to experimental curves for selected coals. For some samples the more complex bidisperse model gave much better results than the classic unipore one. The supremacy of the bidisperse model could be associated with the differences in the coal structure related to the coalification degree. Initial results justify further analyses on a wider set of coals using the methodology developed in this paper.

Opis:
This article discusses the results of an online survey conducted in 2016 among university students in Cracow. The survey included students of the AGH University of Science and Technology and the Jagiellonian University. Its aim was to verify students’ expectations of academic libraries and also to try and get an idea of trends in the perception of the role and significance of libraries in university teaching. Some changes – for example a decrease in student interest in traditional library services in favour of free space development – have already been observed by the librarian community and have merely been confirmed by the findings of the survey.
W artykule omówiono wyniki ankiety internetowej, przeprowadzonej w 2016 roku, a skierowanej do studentów uczelni krakowskich. Ostatecznie badaniem objęto ankiety studentów dwóch uczelni: Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej i Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Założeniem badania było sprawdzenie oczekiwań studenckich wobec bibliotek naukowych i próba uchwycenia tendencji w zakresie roli i znaczenia bibliotek w procesie dydaktycznym w szkole wyższej. Niektóre zmiany, na przykład mniejsze zainteresowanie tradycyjnymi usługami bibliotecznymi na rzecz swobodnego zagospodarowania przestrzeni przez studentów, były już obserwowane przez środowisko bibliotekarskie, chodziło o ich potwierdzenie opiniami bezpośrednio zainteresowanych.

Discopathy of the lumbosacral spine are all pathological changes within the intervertebral disc, causing characteristic clinical symptoms, which mainly include pain in the lower part of the spine, often radiating to the lower limbs but also tingling, numbness and limitation of movements of torso. Treatment of patients with discopathy is usually conservative. Physiotherapy, kinesitherapy and therapeutic massage treatments are used to reduce pain. Subjective evaluation of the effectiveness of the physiotherapeutic procedures used in the group of patients with pain in the lumbosacral spine. The study included 140 people diagnosed with discopathy, attending rehabilitation procedures in Tarnów physiotherapy offices. The research method was a questionnaire of own design supplemented with the VAS scale to assess pain before and after rehabilitation. The data was subjected to statistical analysis. Among the treatments used in the examined group of patients dominated spine and abdominal muscle exercises, therapeutic massage, TENS currents and manual therapy. The average intensity of pain before rehabilitation was = 7.21 points. ± 1.54 points, while after the rehabilitation it was equal to = 3.44 points. ± 1.97 points (p <0.001). Outpatient physiotherapy reduced pain in people suffering from discopathy of the lumbosacral spine. Comprehensive use of TENS currents, spine and abdominal muscle exercises, therapeutic massage and manual therapy does not affect the total elimination of pain in the lumbosacral spine, it only allows for their significant reduction. Physiotherapeutic therapy applied in patients with lumbosacral spine discopathy significantly improved their quality of life.
