W tekście Autorka przywołuje koncepcję samouctwa sformułowaną przed stu laty przez polskiego filozofa i pedagoga Władysława Kozłowskiego. W polskiej pedagogice jest ona prawie nieznana, a o zasługach Kozłowskiego na polu oświaty i wychowania dowiadujemy się głównie z tekstów filozofów. Warto więc poddać eksploracji pedagogicznej i prześledzić, po pierwsze, założenia humanizmu polskiego, wraz z ideałem wszechstronnego wykształcenia, na jakich się opiera; po drugie, jakie wpływy europejskiej myśli filozoficznej da się w niej odnaleźć; po trzecie, czym się wyróżnia i w czym tkwi jej potencjał, który da się przedłożyć także nam współczesnym, troszczącym się i odpowiedzialnym za jakość polskiej edukacji. Całość opracowania służy wydobyciu z przeszłości Polski, tj. z czasów zaborów i międzywojnia sylwetki W.M. Kozłowskiego, zasłużonego pedagoga i filozofa humanisty wraz z kreśloną przez niego oryginalną i wciąż aktualną – jak się zakłada – koncepcją edukacji, jako ważnego głosu w ramach pedagogiki filozoficznej.
In the text, the author recalls the concept of self-instruction formulated 100 years ago by the Polish philosopher and educator Władysław M. Kozłowski. In Polish pedagogy it is almost unknown, and we learn about Kozłowski’s merits in the field of instruction and education mainly from texts written by philosophers. Thus, it is worthwhile to explore from a pedagogical perspective and to trace, firstly, the assumptions of Polish humanism, together with the ideal of comprehensive education on which it is based; secondly, elements of the influence of European philosophical thought that can be found in the concept of self-instruction; thirdly, what distinguishes it and what is its potential, which could also be presented to us today, to those that care for and are responsible for the quality of Polish education. This study aims to extract from Poland’s past, i.e. from the time of partitions and from the interwar period, the figure of W.M. Kozłowski, a distinguished educator and humanist, along with his original and still valid – as is assumed – concept of education as an important voice within the philosophy of education.

The aim of this study was to present the results of analyses conducted by means of complementary analytic tools in order to verify their efficacy and the hypothesis that Kohonen’s neural models may be applied in the classification process of swimmers. A group of 40 swimmers, aged 23 ±5 years took part in this research. For the purpose of verification of usefulness of Kohonen’s neural models, statistical analyses were carried out on the basis of results of the independent variables (physiological and physical profiles, specific tests in the water). In predicting the value of variables measured with the so called strong scale regression models, numerous variables were used. The construction of such models required strict determination of the endogenous variable (Y – results for swim distances of 200 m crawl), as well as the proper choice of variables in explaining the study’s phenomenon. The optimum choice of explanatory variables for the Kohonen’s networks was made on the grounds of regression analysis. During statistical analysis of the gathered material neural networks were used: Kohonen’s feature maps (data mining analysis). The obtained model has the form of a topological map, where certain areas can be separated, and the map constructed in this way can be used in the assessment of candidates for sports training.

This contribution presents the record of an abundant assemblage of well-preserved, thallophytic noncalcified algae and of an epibiotic form that has been recognised as a putative graptolite from the upper Silurian (Ludlow, Gorstian–Ludfordian) of Podolia (western part of Ukraine). The sediments represent a shallow peritidal zone of the shelf. A new genus and species, Voronocladus dryganti, belonging to the Dasycladales Pascher, 1931, is established. Most of the specimens representing the algal thallus are overgrown by problematical epibiotic graptolites, described as Podoliagraptus algaeoides gen. et sp. nov. This phenomenon is explained as an epiphytic mode of life of the putative graptolite on algae, and is herein compared to recently known coexistences of algae with other organisms. The excellent state of preservation, and the abundance of studied Dasycladales algae and epibiotic problematics indicate that the investigated mudstone layer can be treated as a ‘Konservat Lagerstätte’ sensu Seilacher (1970).
