Opis:
This paper proposes a unique method of an error detection and correction (EDAC) circuit, carried out using arithmetic logic blocks. The modified logic blocks circuit and its auxiliary components are designed with Boolean and block reduction technique, which reduced one logic gate per block. The reduced logic circuits were simulated and designed using MATLAB Simulink, DSCH 2 CAD, and Microwind CAD tools. The modified, 2:1 multiplexer, demultiplexer, comparator, 1-bit adder, ALU, and error correction and detection circuit were simulated using MATLAB and Microwind. The EDAC circuit operates at a speed of 454.676 MHz and a slew rate of -2.00 which indicates excellence in high speed and low-area.

Opis:
The spindle rotational accuracy is one of the important issues in a machine tool which affects the surface topography and dimensional accuracy of a workpiece. This paper presents a machine-vision-based approach to radial error measurement of a lathe spindle using a CMOS camera and a PC-based image processing system. In the present work, a precisely machined cylindrical master is mounted on the spindle as a datum surface and variations of its position are captured using the camera for evaluating runout of the spindle. The Circular Hough Transform (CHT) is used to detect variations of the centre position of the master cylinder during spindle rotation at subpixel level from a sequence of images. Radial error values of the spindle are evaluated using the Fourier series analysis of the centre position of the master cylinder calculated with the least squares curve fitting technique. The experiments have been carried out on a lathe at different operating speeds and the spindle radial error estimation results are presented. The proposed method provides a simpler approach to on-machine estimation of the spindle radial error in machine tools.

Opis:
Frantz Fanon in The Wretched of the Earth (1961) asserted the importance of colonial education for the emergence of “native intellectuals” who will be able to represent the masses and participate in the national agenda against colonisation. Likewise Benedict Anderson’s Imagined Communities (1983) draws attention to a secondary school in West Africa during French colonialism that offered colonial education to the local boys who eventually became nationalist leaders. Both Fanon and Anderson opined that colonial education was vital for the emergence of an elite indigenous group who possessed the key to mobilise the masses, contributing to the rise in nationalism. With the emergence of the Subaltern Studies in South Asia, the significance of the elite group and the ways non-elite members of a nation have been represented in nationalist discourses have been highly debated. This paper examines the relationship between British colonial education and the rise of nationalism in This End of the Rainbow (2006), a Malaysian life-writing in English by Adibah Amin, a female writer of Malay ethnic origin. Also, this paper looks at how as a nationalist writing, the narrative has deployed colonial education to distinguish the elites as decolonising agents from the masses, placing the latter at the margin as the subalterns.

Opis:
Purpose: Recently, there has been an upsurge among people around the world in maintaining a sustainable and hygienic environment. This is due to the over-exploitation of recourses causing environmental pollution and spreading bacterial infections. In this regard, scientists are motivated to develop smart coatings where environmental pollutants and bacterial cells are degraded when in contact with their surfaces. Design/methodology/approach: In our previous report, ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using the precipitation technique, showing good photocatalytic and antibacterial activity [1]. In this context, the present study details the use of ZnO NPs as pigment for the fabrication of alkyd resin-based self-cleaning coating. The coating was developed by mixing ZnO NPs and alkyd resin along with the additives using the ball milling technique. The developed coating was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and water contact angle measurements. Findings: To elucidate the self-cleaning and hygienic behaviour of the ZnO/alkyd resin coating, the dried coating was exposed to crystal violet (CV) solution as a model dye pollutant and bacterial strains to assess its photocatalytic and antibacterial activity. The droplets of CV solution placed over the coating almost degraded after 360 min of exposure to sunlight owing to the presence of ZnO NPs in the coating. Further, the coating exhibits reasonable antibacterial activity against E. coli and P. aeruginosa whereas it displays low antibacterial activity against S. aureus. Research limitations/implications: Even though, the self-cleaning coating shows promising results, tuning the activity of the photo-catalytic pigment can improve the pollutant degradation efficiency and elevate bactericidal activity. Originality/value: ZnO NPs-impregnated alkyd resin coating for self-cleaning applications is novel.

Opis:
Introduction and aim. Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease. Experimental clinical and laboratory diagnosis is still facing problems in identifying the organism. The present study will diagnose a Brucella infection in camel blood in Qatar using serological assays. Isolation and identification were performed on a camel blood sample. Brucella in bacterial isolates was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) as a gold standard test. Material and methods. A total of 220 samples, 200 random serum samples, and 20 EDTA blood samples were selected among the above-mentioned random samples, and 20 serum samples from camel handlers were collected from Al Shahaniya province, Qatar. The Rose Bengal test (RBT), buffered antigen plate agglutination test (BAPAT), and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA) for the monoclonal antibody in serum samples were performed using commercially available kits. For the molecular detection of Brucella, conventional PCR and real-time PCR (GPS kit) were used for the genus-specific insertion sequence IS711. Brucella melitensis (MICROBOSS Hightech GmbH kit) was used to identify subspecies. Results. The results identified by vitek2 compact (30%) showed B. melitensis in 6 samples out of 20 isolates. Both conventional (66.67%) and RT-PCR (83.33%) analyses supported this, demonstrating the presence of Brucella. These tests also showed that Brucella species were present in Rose Bengal 182/200 (91%), BAPAT 182/200 (91%), and cELISA (90%) 180/200 in camel serum. Conclusion. To conclude, the prevalence of brucellosis in dromedary camels is higher in this region, and as a matter of urgency, measures should be taken to control the disease.
