Opis:
Pearson’s coefficient of linear correlation r is the measure of dependence which is the most popular among practitioners. In the paper we have shown, using comprehensive computer simulations, that its application is very limited when we search for informative variables that can be used for the prediction of reliability. We have shown that Kendall’s coefficient of association τ is much better for this purpose.
Współczynnik korelacji liniowej r Pearsona jest najbardziej popularną wśród praktyków miarą zależności statystycznej. W artykule na podstawie wyników wyczerpujących symulacji komputerowych pokazano, że w przypadku poszukiwania zmiennych mogących służyć do prognozowania niezawodności zakres jego stosowalności jest bardzo ograniczony. Wyniki badań symulacyjnych pokazują, że temu celowi lepiej służy współczynnik asocjacji τ Kendalla.

Praca obejmuje zagadnienia dotyczące modelowania i symulacji układu stabilizator zewnętrzny - kość. Autorzy podejmują próbę modelowania zarówno procesu zrostu kostnego, w przypadku osteosyntezy zewnętrznej jak również modelowania własności mechanicznych układu stabilizator zewnętrzny - kość. Do realizacji wymienionych celów wykorzystano klasyczne metody mechaniki (modelowanie własności mechanicznych układu) i techniki heurystyczne do modelowania procesu zrostu kostnego. Badaniom i analizie poddano innowacyjne stabilizatory zewnętrzne rodziny Dynastab-DK realizujące postulat czynnościowego leczenia złamań.
Problem concerning modelling and simulation of an external fixator - bone system are subject of this paper. The authors not onlytries to model a process of bone union in case of external osteosynthesis but also to model mechanical properities of the system mentioned above. Classical methods of mechanics will be used to achieve the second goal and in the first case, there will be applied heuristic techniques. The subject of analyses will be innovative fixators Dynastab-DK realising a postulate of functional healing of fractures.

Iron-based superconductors $Ba_{0.7}Rb_{0.3}Fe_{2}As_{2}$ and $CaFe_{1.92}Co_{0.08}As_{2}$ of the `122' family have been investigated by means of the 14.41-keV Mössbauer transition in $\text{}^{57}Fe$ versus temperature ranging from the room temperature till 4.2 K. A comparison is made with the previously investigated parent compounds $BaFe_{2}As_{2}$ and $CaFe_{2}As_{2}$. It has been found that Mössbauer spectra of these superconductors are composed of the magnetically split component due to development of spin density wave and non-magnetic component surviving even at lowest temperatures. The latter component is responsible for superconductivity. Hence, the superconductivity occurs in the part of the sample despite the sample is single phase. This phenomenon is caused by the slight variation of the dopant concentration across the sample (crystal).

The thermoelectric power of $MgB_2$ single crystals, non-substituted, single-substituted with C, and co-substituted with C and Li, was investigated in the temperature range from 10 to 300 K. Both the in-plane $(S_ab)$ and the out-of-plane $(S_c)$ thermoelectric powers are positive for non-substituted crystals and both $S_{ab}$ and $S_c$ change a sign for crystals doped with electrons when C is substituted for B in the amount larger than 6 at.%. The substitution of C, which supplies electrons mainly into the σ band, reduces the thermoelectric power anisotropy, most likely by increasing the interband scattering. When Li is additionally co-substituted for Mg, $S_ab$ remains unchanged but $S_c$ increases substantially. The Li substitution donates holes into the π band rather than into the σ band and in this way modifies the π band properties, including the possible increase in the intraband scattering.

The paper presents results of the preliminary structural analysis of model of the endoprosthesis of the hip joint. Basics of anatomy and biomechanical analysis of the hip joint were introduced. Based on data from atlas of human anatomy and medical imaging, the prototype of endoprosthesis was modelled using Solid Edge ST8 software. After determining physical properties of structural materials, the Finite Elements Analysis of the model was conducted using in SolidWorks software under various load conditions. Finally the results of analysis are presented.

This paper attempts to study and to describe the particular situation, when somebody for the sake of beliefs, opinions and ideas decides to finish the relation with the other. Such a situation we call the phenomenon of rupture. The ruptures may be different: the boyfriend is breaking up with his girlfriend, spouses are deciding on the divorce, somebody is breaking the agreement or the friendship. From all these type of the situation we are only interested in rupture because of the difference in holding the truth. The phenomenon of rupture in such a situation is getting the shape of the dispute what is more important – the truth or the person. How is it happening, that for the sake of the truth I am rejecting the person? Whether for the sake of the relation with the other can I put the truth away? What is more important value: the truth or You? Or maybe the rupture is a symptom of the unresolved attitude to the Absolute? We are trying to find answers to these questions referring to the thoughts of J. Tischner and the other contemporary philosophers. In the text two positions and two types of the thinking are discussed: monological thinking, in which the truth is more important than the person, and dialogical one, where the relation with the person is a condition of finding the truth. At the end of the text a one-sidedness of both attitudes is indicated as well as the possibility of solution the rupture by love.
Przedmiotem artykułu jest zbadanie i opis sytuacji, kiedy ktoś w imię przekonań, opinii, poglądów decyduje się zakończyć relację z drugim człowiekiem. Sytuację taką nazywamy fenomenem zerwania. Zerwania mogą być różne: chłopak zrywa z dziewczyną, małżonkowie decydują się na rozwód, ktoś zrywa umowę albo przyjaźń. Z wszystkich tego typu sytuacji interesuje nas tylko zerwanie z powodu różnicy w wyznawanych poglądach. Fenomen zerwania w takiej sytuacji przybiera kształt sporu o to, co ważniejsze – prawda czy osoba. Jak to się dzieje, że w imię prawdy odrzucam osobę? Czy w imię relacji z drugim mogę zdradzić prawdę? Czy wartością ważniejszą jest prawda czy Ty? A może zerwanie jest symptomem nierozwiązanego stosunku do Absolutu? Odpowiedzi na te pytania szukamy, odwołując się do myśli Józefa Tischnera i innych współczesnych filozofów. Zarysowane zostają dwa skrajne stanowiska: prawda ponad osobą oraz osoba ponad prawdą. Wyznaczają one dwa odmienne paradygmaty myślenia: monologiczny i dialogiczny. Problem zostaje rozważony także w płaszczyźnie aksjologicznej, gdzie prawda i Ty jawią się jako wartości. W zerwaniu istotne jest utożsamienie Ja z daną prawdą – następują tu procesy solidaryzacji egotycznej i absolutyzacji Ja. W ich efekcie zerwanie można opisać za pomocą Tischnerowskiej kategorii potępienia i mechanizmu władzy. Na końcu zostaje ukazana możliwość rozwiązania sytuacji zerwania przez miłość.

This paper attempts to study and to describe the experience of conversion that is an existential change, whose aim is to initiate a relation with God. Although the category of conversion is biblical and theological, it is also an anthropological notion. Hence, research on this phenomenon by means of the phenomenological method may result in the extension of the knowledge of humanity. The article consists of two fundamental parts. In the first one three examples of conversion, as an empiric basis for further research, are presented: St Augustine of Hippo’s, Cardinal John Henry Newman’s and Edith Stein’s. An investigation of their ways enables us to enter into the horizon of the experience of conversion and to understand its basic intuition. In this approach the conversion is comprehended as a radical turn on the road of searching for the truth. A converting person gains the consciousness of being on the supreme way to the truth. In the further part of the article, the investigations bring a more universal description of this phenomenon. Conversion is certainly not only the single event, e.g. the turning point. It is rather a process which has its ‘before’ and ‘after’. On the way leading to conversion one may find such phenomena as: the integrated life of the person, an experience of emptiness and dissatisfaction, the courage to break present horizons and a readiness to accept the unexpected. In turn, ‘after’ the conversion one may notice the following phenomena: an experience of one’s own limits, the consciousness of the Absolute and an experience of freedom. The paper culminates in the discussion about the comprehension of conversion in terms of the process of philosophy or the ontology of becoming. Such concepts as Hegelian dialectic, Aristotle’s theory of act and potency or Kierkegaard’s leap of faith are rejected. The way of converting man has its explanation in the categories of the religious development according to J. H. Newman.

The paper presents an experimental and correlational study of mechanical properties of selected surgical sutures. The research methods employed in the study consisted in conducting tensile strength tests on suture material and subjecting the obtained data to statistical analysis. The changes in tensile strength of absorbable sutures measured in tests were subsequently collated with results for suture material samples that were not exposed to Ringer’s solution. The results were, furthermore, compared with manufacturer’s specifications concerning suture absorption time in the body. The detailed analysis of differences between results presented in the study allowed us to formulate conclusions regarding the impact of exposure to Ringer’s solution on the strength of surgical sutures.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań in vitro wybranych właściwości reologicznych i tribologicznych naturalnej cieczy synowialnej, pobranej od pacjentów po urazie kolana. Oceniano lepkość dynamiczną w funkcji prędkości ścinania oraz współczynnik tarcia dla pary tribologicznej, wykonanej ze stopu kobaltu, testowanej w środowisku mazi stawowej. Otrzymane wyniki badań wykazały różnice pomiędzy testowanymi próbkami w zakresie przeprowadzonych badań.
The aim of the work was the assessment of rheological and tribological properties of natural synovial fluids from patients with knee trauma. A viscosity in function of shear rate and coefficient of friction were evaluated. Wear tests were made using pin-on-disc tester in a synovial fluid environment. The paper presents results of the preliminary structural analysis of model of the endoprosthesis of the knee joint. Basics of anatomy and biomechanics of the knee joint were introduced. Based on data from computed tomography, the model of knee joint was constructed. The prototype of the endoprosthesis of the knee joint was designed. After determining physical properties of structural materials, the Finite Elements Analysis of the model was conducted under various load conditions. Finally the results of analysis are presented.

The paper presents results of research on neural network application in fore-casting the tensile strength of two types of sutures. The preliminary research was conducted in order to establish the accuracy of the proposed method and will be used for formulating further research areas. The neu-ral network enabled evaluation of suture material degradation after 3-to-6-days’ exposure to Ringer’s solution. The encountered problems regarding inaccuracies show that developing a single model for sutures may be difficult or impossible. Therefore future research should be conducted for a single type of sutures only and require applying additional parameters for the neural network.

The paper presents the results of a preliminary study on the structural analysis of the hip joint, taking into account changes in the mechanical properties of the articular cartilage of the joint. Studies have been made due to the need to determine the tension distribution occurring in the cartilage of the human hip. These distribution are the starting point for designing custom made human hip prosthesis. Basic anatomy, biomechanical analysis of the hip joint and articular cartilage are introduced. The mechanical analysis of the hip joint model is conducted. Final results of analysis are presented. Main conclusions of the study are: the capability of absorbing loads by articular cartilage of the hip joint is preliminary determined as decreasing with increasing degenerations of the cartilage and with age of a patient. Without further information on changes of cartilage’s mechanical parameters in time it is hard to determine the nature of relation between mentioned capability and these parameters.

Introduction and objective: Recent in vitro studies indicate that enamel matrix derivative (EMD) could modulate the growth of periodontopathogens. The aim of the presented study was an analysis of the influence of EMD on the presence of Porphyromonas and Prevotella bacteria in the periodontal pockets of patients with chronic periodontitis in non-surgical periodontal therapy. Materials and Methods: The studies were conducted on 20 patients. The condition of the periodontium was evaluated by clinical indexes: API. SBI. PD. CAL before and 3 months after the therapy in two selected quadrants. The material was collected for investigation. The periodontopathogens were cultured and identified. Two days after EMD-scaling root planing (SRP) was applied into the pockets. Results: In the group of patients under investigation before the EMD application the presence of P. gingivalis was found in 6 patients and P. intermedia in 8 patients. After root planing and EMD application no periodontopathogens were identified in those patients either in the periodontal pockets treated with EMD or in the periodontal pockets free from EMD (control). In the statistical analysis of changes in clinical indexes, the application of SRP and SRP combined with EMD was proved to significantly influence the improvement of the clinical state. However, no significant differences between the individual parameters were found in either group. Conclusions: The SRP is an effective method of limiting the development of periopathogens in periodontal pockets. The non-surgical therapy with EMD does not change the clinical parameters significantly, compared with the SRP. Simultaneously, the application of EMD inhibits the development of periopathogens, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella.

Poniższe opracowanie zawiera informacje dotyczące stopów kobaltu stosowanych w stomatologii oraz medycynie. Praca zawiera przegląd literatury opisujący ogólne właściwości stopów kobaltu. Opisano także wpływ warunków wytwarzania i wykorzystywanych dodatków stopowych na strukturę oraz właściwości mechaniczne tych stopów. W opracowaniu umieszczona została metodyka przeprowadzonych badań oraz uzyskane wyniki. Do badań wybrane zostały dwa stopy na osnowie kobaltu Co-CrMo-W oraz Co-Cr-Ni-Mo. Pierwszy z nich wytworzony został techniką odlewniczą drugi natomiast wyniku obróbki plastycznej. Przeprowadzona została analiza składu chemicznego, a następnie badania tribologiczne in vitro zrealizowane na tribotesterze typu „ball-on-disc”. Przedstawiona została porównawcza charakterystyka tribologiczna tych stopów.
This study provides information about the cobalt alloys used in dentistry and medicine. The work includes a review of the literature describing the general properties of cobalt alloys. In addition it describes the impact of the manufacturing conditions and alloy additives used , on the structure and mechanical properties of these alloys. The research methodology and the results obtained has been presented in the study. Two cobalt-based alloys Co-CrMo-W and Co-Cr-Ni-Mo were selected for the tests. The first one was prepared with the use of casting technique whereas the second was obtained due to plastic forming. An analysis of the chemical composition and in vitro tribological tests with the use of tribotester of "ball-on-disc" type was conducted. Comparative tribological characteristics of these alloys has been presented.

The paper presents results of a 3D reconstruction of a congenital bilateral radio-ulnar synostosis. Basics of anatomy and biomechanical analysis of the elbow joint were introduced. Case report of a congenital bilateral radio-ulnar synostosis was presented. Based on the data from computed tomography imaging, the model of a congenital bilateral radio-ulnar synostosis was constructed. Basic information on reverse engineering, rapid prototyping and methods of making physical models are presented. The creation of physical models was aimed at pre-operative planning and conceptualization. Physical models were also used in the educational form at the stage of communication with the patient.

The PF-1000 plasma-focus facility in Warsaw, equipped with Mather-type coaxial electrodes working with a deuterium filling, was modified by the addition of a cathode disk in front of the anode front-plate at a distance of 3 cm. The plasma was diagnosed with temporal resolved interferometry and neutron diagnostics. The modified electrode configuration showed an increase of the current in the pinch phase and a decrease of the total neutron yield. The lower total neutron yield is caused by a lower energy of deuterons producing the observed neutrons and by a decrease of the velocity of transformations of the structures in the pinch column.

Lotnicze silniki turbinowe o sile ciągu większej od 27,6 kN podlegają normom emisji związków szkodliwych spalin zgodnie z Aneksem 16 Konwencji Chicagowskiej ustalonymi przez ICAO. Normy emisji silników odrzutowych określone są wg przyjętego jako wzorcowy - cyklu startu i lądowania LTO (ang. Landing and take-off cycle). Normy te stosuje się również dla silników wykorzystywanych w wojskowych samolotach wielozadaniowych. Jednak eksploatacja samolotów wielozadaniowych różni się od eksploatacji cywilnych statków powietrznych. W związku z tym przeprowadzono analizę wyników emisji zanieczyszczeń uzyskanych w przeprowadzonych testach badawczych z wartościami emisji wynikających z wytycznych zawartych w normach.
Aviation gas turbines with thrust greater than 27.6 kN are subject to exhaust emission norms and regulations for harmful compounds outlined in Annex 16 of the Chicago Convention as established by ICAO. Jet engine emission standards are defined with the use of an established takeoff and landing model known as the LTO cycle (Landing and take-off). These standards also apply to engines used in multi-role combat aircraft. However, multi-role combat aircraft operation differs from the operation of civilian aircraft. Therefore, the analysis of the emission results obtained in the carried out research was done with the use of emission values contained in the norm guidelines.

The results of studies of the plasma dynamics and neutron emission on a PF-1000 facility in the stage of pinch formation are presented. The measurements were performed using various modifications of the calibrated magnetic probes, 16 frame interferometry, silver activation counters and photomultiplier tube (PMT) neutron probes. The current measurements at a distance of 40 mm from the axis of the electrodes was measured. This dependence agrees well with the known scaling, Yn similar to I4. The evolution plasma density during pinch formation and a neutron emission were study.

We present the results of experiments focused on energy transformations during the implosion of the hydrogen current sheath towards an Al wire (120 ěm in diameter) positioned on the top of the inner electrode of the PF-1000 plasma focus facility at the IPPLM in Warsaw. A wire corona is formed at the current sheath impact and ~60 ns after the impact a soft X-ray pulse is emitted. Its spectrum contains AlVI-XII lines accompanied by their satellites. The amount of emitted energy is recorded by two filtered PIN diodes and thermoluminescent dosimeters and depends on symmetry of the current sheath and quality of the current sheath focus. The mean value of energy of keV photons emitted in the runs done without the wire (~1 J) is higher than the energy obtained with the wire (~0.4 J). A time delay between the impact of the current sheath and X-ray pulse, the plasma focus dynamics and soft X-ray emission are interpreted by an axial magnetic field generation and transformations.

Opis:
Rozwój bezzałogowych statków powietrznych ukierunkowany jest na sprostanie wielu wymagań związanych z nowymi funkcjami zastosowania. Jednym z nich jest uzyskanie możliwie długiego czasu wykonywanej operacji lotniczej. Realizacja tego zadania ściśle wiąże się z konstrukcją płatowca oraz konstrukcją układu napędowego. W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia oceny możliwości doboru hybrydowego układu napędowego przeznaczonego do zastosowania w bezzałogowym statku powietrznym. Wybrano napęd śmigłowy złożony z silnika elektrycznego oraz spalinowego, stanowiącego źródło zasilania akumulatorów. W celu doboru silnika spalinowego określono zapotrzebowanie na moc potrzebną do zasilania napędu śmigłowego. Na podstawie badań wykreślono charakterystyki pracy wybranych napędów, które wykorzystano do opracowania wariantów hybrydowego układu napędowego.
The development of unmanned aerial vehicles is focused on imposed requirements for new field of application this type of aircraft. One of them is possibility to perform of the air operation in the long term. This task is closely associated with the design of the airframe of an aircraft and the propulsion system. The paper presents the evaluation of the possibility of selecting the hybrid propulsion system for the unmanned aerial vehicle. A propeller drive consisting of an electric engine and a internal combustion engine to charging the batteries was chosen. In order to select the internal combustion engine was determined of requirements for engine power needed to power a propeller drive. On the basis of research were plotted performance characteristics for the selected engines, which were used to develop of variants of the hybrid drive system.

W pracy przedstawiono budowę anatomiczną kręgu i krążka międzykręgowego. Opisano funkcjonowanie kręgosłupa, jego kinematykę oraz oddziaływania międzykręgowe. Stworzono pełny trójwymiarowy model kręgów lędźwiowych L2 – L4. Na ich podstawie skonstruowano model endoprotezy krążka międzykręgowego (pomiędzy L2 i L3). Opracowano uproszczony model sztucznego krążka międzykręgowego sformułowany metodą elementów skończonych, który posłużył do analizy biomechanicznej. Dokonano obliczeń wytrzymałościowych oraz wyciągnięto odpowiednie wnioski. Prezentowane wyniki przedstawiają zachowanie się trójwymiarowego modelu kręgu lędźwiowego przy zastosowaniu endoprotezy krążka międzykręgowego pod wpływem działania obciążeń.
In the hereby thesis the anatomy of the lumbar vertebra and intervertebral disc were presented. Functioning and kinematics of the spine and intervertebral forces were described.Full three – dimensional model of the lumbar vertebrae L2 – L4 was created. On the basis of it model of artificial intervertebral disc was constructed (between L2 and L3). The simplified model of vertebra L2 was formulated via finite elements method. Processed model has been used for biomechanical analysis.Strength calculations were made and appropriate conclusions were drawn. This paper presents results of the recent plasma-focus (PF) experiments carried out with PF facilities, which was operated at energies ranging from 0.5 MJ to about 1 MJ. Particular attention has been paid to pinch evolution, the emission of pulsed X-ray, fast electron beams, and fusion produced neutrons. Some theoretical models of the initial breakdown, which occurs at the insulator surface, are compared. It is pointed out that modeling of the breakdown is sensitive to kinetics of ionization processes and transport coefficients. Progress in experimental studies of the axial acceleration phase is unsatisfactory. Important experimental data have been collected, but new measurements are still needed. For the radial collapse phase, it was shown that the MHD modeling is efficient until the maximum compression, but plasma instabilities require more sophisticated approaches. The pinch phase was investigated by means of different diagnostics. Fusion neutron yields were measured in different experiments, but some discrepancies in scaling must still be explained. The conclusions concern directions for further studies and optimization of large-scale high-current PF facilities.

In this paper we report on measurements of the energy spectra and other properties of the electron and fast ion beams emitted in the upstream and downstream direction along the z-axis of a large plasma focus device PF-1000, that was operated at 21-27 kV, delivering 290–480 kJ pulse. Measurements of the electron beam (EB) properties were performed using a magnetic analyzer. Properties of the ion beams were measured by means of pinhole cameras equipped with PM-355 nuclear track detectors and placed at various angles (0, 60 and 180 centigrade) to the discharge axis. Measurements revealed a complex spatial structure of the fast ion beams. The ion measurements behind the PF-1000 collector proved that some fast deuterons are emitted also in the upstream direction. Measurements of the EBs emitted in the upstream and downstream direction revealed electron energies in the range from approximately 40 keV to approximately 800 keV. These spectra confirm that in localized regions within the PF-1000 plasma column there appear strong fields accelerating charged particles in different directions along the discharge axis.
