Heavy metals such as Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, Cd, Cr and Pb in surface sediments from the Lanzhou Section of the Yellow River were investigated to analyze chemical speciation by a sequential "extraction and to evaluate their pollution level. The metal contents in the sediments were found to be in the range of (mg/kg) Cu 15.52-57.50, Fe 19 600.33-48 350.00, Mn 493.50-698.93, Ni 9.34-53.20, Zn 64.86-168.57, Cd 1.09-4.25, Cr 70.00-139.33, Pb 5.66-19.13. The arrangement of metal contents from higher to lower was: Fe > Mn > Cr > Zn > Ni > Cu > Pb > Cd. Fe, Mn and Cu and could have the same source according to their correlations. The quantity of immobile speciation (residual) was observed to be higher when compared with mobile speciation (acid soluble, reducible, and oxidizable) of Fe, Cu, Cd and Cr. The highly enrichment factors of Ni and Cr created a high environmental risk. The order of contamination level for heavy metals in sediment was Cr > Cd > Pb > Cu > Mn > Ni > Fe > Zn on the basis of performance of the geoaccumulation index, enrichment factor and pollution load index.

We used cytological and embryological methods to study reproductive cycle stages in Cerasus fruticosa Pall., Cerasus × eminens (Beck) Buia and Cerasus × mohacsyana (Kárpáti) Janchen from SW Slovakia, focusing on development of the male and female reproductive organs, fertilization processes and embryo formation. We found that reproductive potential was reduced by synergistic effects of negative biotic and abiotic factors. Despite the presence of degenerated, deformed pollen grains and their great variability of shape and size, a sufficient amount of normally developed viable pollen grains developed in anthers of C. fruticosa and C. × mohacsyana. Disturbed microsporogenesis in C. × eminens led to significantly lower production of viable pollen grains. We did not observe serious disturbances during megasporogenesis and megagametogenesis. Lower fruit set was caused by degeneration of ovules as a result of unsuccessful pollination, fertilization failure, or embryo degeneration during its initial development.

Opis:
The authors offer to solve the problem of providing traceability of measurements by increasing metrological autonomy of in-plant measuring systems. The paper shows the expedience of increasing metrological autonomy by creating a “virtual” reference. There are analysed possible variants of implementation of the “virtual” reference, which will provide high metrological stability of measurements at insignificant additional expenses. The authors point out the necessity of creation of universal technical and programmatic means of mutual comparison for the in-plant measuring systems to increase the reliability of measurements in the conditions of metrological autonomy.

Opis:
The homoepitaxial growth of GaN layers has been achieved for the first time. Bulk GaN single crystals which have been used as a substrate have been grown from diluted solution of atomic nitrogen in the liquid gallium at 1600°C and at nitrogen pressure of about 15-20 kbar. It is shown that a terrace growth of GaN epitaxial layer has been realized. The high quality of the GaN film has been confirmed by luminescence measurements. The analysis of donor-acceptor and exciton luminescence is presented.

Opis:
An amoeba was isolated from a soil sample collected at the edge of a fumarole of the volcano Ceboruco in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. The trophozoites of this new isolate have eruptive pseudopodes and do not transform into flagellates. The strain forms cysts that have a double wall. This thermophilic amoeba grows at temperatures up to 50°C. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of the small subunit ribosomal DNA (SSU rDNA) places the amoeba into the Heterolobosea. The closest relatives are Paravahlkampfia spp. Like some other heterolobosean species, this new isolate has a group I intron in the SSU rDNA. Because of its position in the molecular phylogenetic tree, and because there is no species found in the literature with similar morphological and physiological characteristics, this isolate is described as a new genus and a new species, Fumarolamoeba ceborucoi gen. nov., sp. nov.
