    The contribution given in the 20th century by the Polish historians to the studies on the Risorgimento age in general, and especially on the Polish-Italian relations in those years, is rich and varied. Authors such as Marceli Handelsman, Adam Lewak, Kalikst Morawski, Stefan Kieniewicz, Marian Żychowski, Emanuel Halicz, just to mention some of the most influential among them, have made the history of the Polish historiography of the Risorgimento, expanding the range of knowledge on the ideas and protagonists of that era and opening the way for a new generation of historians that continues today to look after this important field of historical studies.

    Opis:
    The Italian Risorgimento, that is the historical process that led to the unification and independence of Italy, is characterized by the constant conjugation of the national principle with the request of institutions of freedom. The article reconstructs this process through its topical moments (Jacobin triennium, motions of 1820–1821, decade of preparation) focusing on the post-1848 phase, when only the Kingdom of Sardinia maintained the constitution thus becoming an essential reference point for the patriotic movement.
    Włoskie Risorgimento, czyli proces historyczny, który doprowadził do zjednoczenia i niezależności Włoch, charakteryzuje się ciągłym sprzężeniem zasady narodowej z żądaniem instytucji wolności. Autor artykułu rekonstruuje ten proces na podstawie przełomowych momentów (wskazuje na trzy kluczowe zdarzenia), koncentrując się na fazie po 1848 roku, kiedy tylko Królestwo Sardynii utrzymało konstytucję, stając się tym samym istotnym punktem odniesienia dla ruchu patriotycznego.

    So called relational approaches gain growing popularity among historians due to the multiplicity of new perspectives on history of societies they give. The credit goes especially to the following theories: comparative history, cultural transfer, “histoire croisée” and transnational history. The article brings closer above theories to the Polish readership and focusing on cultural transfer theory depicts possible ways of its use in the analysis of relations between Poland and Italy during the period of Risorgimento. In doing so, it contends that new interesting discoveries can be made with reference to the Italian influence on the Polish conceptions of the nation.

    This article contains the proposal of a theoretical apparatus and criteria which might be adopted to approach the topic of Italian Literature about the Risorgimento. The ‘social value’ of literary works was taken as a basis, that is, their ability to explain the historical process to contemporary readers by depicting large-scale events while narrating the personal stories of fictional characters. A basic research hypothesis here presented is that 1861 constitutes a turning point in Italian Literature, as the optimistic hopes of pre‑Unity patriotic-oriented authors turn into disillusion in the wake of the lack of sound achievements by the new Kingdom in the fields of the social and cultural advancement which should have followed political unification, but it did not.

    The article analyzes the relationship among the intervention of Italy in the Great War and the tradition of the Risorgimento. After the end of the Triplex Alliance, the irredentism, the “liberation” of Trento and Trieste, the memory of the Risorgimento became the fulcrum of the legitimation of the Italian war. It was an omnipresent thematic, that the propaganda developed until the end of the conflict. Among the many available sources, the writings of the soldiers (diaries and letters) are an observatory of great interest to verify the levels of penetration and the limits of this ambitious operation.
