Opis:
The subject of discussion in the article is the way the protagonist of Vladimir Nabokov’s short story Sounds perceives the world. The sense-forming function of the sound as a literary trick, serv-ing to conceptualize the image of the world and the descriptions of emotional states of Nabokov’s characters, is revealed. It is proved that due to the recollective strategy (reconstructing in his mem-ory the day of parting with the beloved) the protagonist-artist perceives the ubiquitous harmony of sounds in the surrounding reality and at the same time recognizes (Gadamer) his own feelings that once bound him with his beloved. The “rhythmic order” of nature experienced by the protagonist evokes associations with Pythagorean reflection on the existence of permanent dependencies be-tween the rhythm of the Cosmos and the rhythms of man. This finds its expression in Nabokov’s short story in showing the intermingling of the worlds: establishing a relationship (unity) between the internal (emotional) and external (nature) world, between micro and macrocosm. The act of rec-ollection itself inscribes in a strategy of tranforming memories: forming in imagination a different image of the lovers’ parting and creating another – a dreamed image of the beloved.

Opis:
This article examines Karol Wojtyła’s concept of participation and alienation by starting the discussion on his personalist anthropology, leading to his structure of the human community. Wojtyła’s personalist anthropology reveals to us the nature of the human person as a unique, unrepeatable personal subjectivity. According to Wojtyła, the human act takes us to the knowledge and understanding of the person’s interiority and simultaneously allows us to have a glimpse of the human person’s specific complexity. Then, I analyze the correlation between person-action in living and acting with other persons. Here, I attempt to demonstrate that if our existence has to acquire any human significance, it is that, rather than alienation, which makes such a unique experience possible. Finally, I explored the impact of the failure to grasp a genuine understanding of the human person and the capacity to participate in the humanity of other persons, setting a profound sense of alienation that dehumanizes us to our very core. This paper aims to answer the following questions: Given the actions that can be performed ‘together with others,’ how does the person’s acting with others affect the dynamic correlation of the action with the person? What is the significance of this participation for the personalistic value of the action? Why is alienation antithetical to participation?

Opis:
An attempt to compare the epistemological positions of two thinkers coming from different philosophical traditions requires turning to the sources of both philosophical programs. This will allow us to reveal the common and differentiating features of the described projects. On the one hand, we have Cassirer, the heir to neo-Kantianism and the creator of symbolism, on the other, we are rooted in the tradition of reflective philosophy and phenomenological hermeneutics, Ricoeur. Despite many differences in epistemological assumptions, we can find similar positions in both philosophers. The concurrence of the three Cassirerow base phenomena with three hermeneutic horizons manifests itself - as we will try to demonstrate - in the concept of the Work. The hermeneutic intuition of Cassirer turns into Ricoeur's reflection on self-understanding in the face of a work that affects our perception of the world and thinking about ourselves. In the article, we will consider how the contemporary philosophy of culture developed by Cassirer is taken up by contemporary hermeneutics. Is the convergence of the three base phenomena with the three horizons that combine with each other in the process of interpretation in the juxtaposition of the philosophy of culture with contemporary hermeneutics? Do we have the right to compare Cassirerow's base phenomena, I - You -Work is with hermeneutic communication which is presented on the line Author (Creator) -Text (Work) - Reader (Receiver)?

Opis:
The phrase “I love you” is usually associated with a description of the sender’s sentiment. As something that talks about the emotional state of the speaker. However, this is not always the case. There are cases of using this phrase that do not serve cognitive function, when “I love you” does not “inform” about the sender’s feelings state. These words have in these cases the driving force, they are the action. The formulation which is “the doing of a certain action”, John L. Austin calls a “performative utterance,” or a “performative”. “I love you” seems to meet the conditions for such classification in at least three cases, i.e. when this sentence is pronounced to create a relationship (this is usually its first formulation by the sender and the receiver, although the time elapsed between the two statements may be long). Second, when we have the situation of renewing such a commitment – to be in a relationship and take actions for its benefits. And finally, when other forms of showing love are impossible for a variety of reasons.

Opis:
This investigation of thanks to you in British and American usage was precipitated by a situation at an American university, in which a native Arabic speaker said thanks to you in isolation, making his intended meaning unclear. The study analyzes use of thanks to you in the Corpus of Contemporary American English and the British National Corpus to gain insights for English language instruction /assessment in the American context, as well as English-as-a-lingua-franca contexts where the majority of speakers are not native speakers of English or are speakers of different varieties of English but where American or British English are for educational purposes the standard varieties. Analysis of the two corpora revealed three functions for thanks to you common to British and American usage: expressing gratitude, communicating "because of you" positively, and communicating "because of you" negatively (as in sarcasm). A fourth use of thanks to you, thanking journalists/guests for being on news programs/talk shows, occurred in the American corpus only. Analysis indicates that felicitous use of thanks to you for each of these meanings depends on the presence of a range of factors, both linguistic and material, in the context of utterance.

A specific relationship that connects a person and a computer has provided the basis for writ-ing the present article. The author attempts to characterize classes conducted with use of the e-learning method at the Pedagogical Faculty of the Jan Długosz University in Czestochowa. The concept of transactional analysis constitutes the paradigm for these considerations. The study uses three complementary thematic areas of the concept – personality structure analysis, communica-tion analysis and transactional passivity concept.

Opis:
The phenomenon of providing support is a vital component of social life, assuming numerous and various forms. In the article, the author focuses on characterising the crucial condition of efficient psychological support provided on an individual basis for people facing difficulties surpassing their current adaptation capacities. The basis of efficient support is the creation of the so-called helping relationship that is a taskoriented, contains a specific emotional relation with the client, and facilitates support provision and acceptance. According to the author, the “I’m OK, you’re OK” attitude of the helper is an essential condition for the achievement of an effective helping relationship. The author advocated the Nonviolent Communication Model by Rosenberg as a specific tool not only for developing such social skills as empathy and assertiveness, but also as a tool for helping to develop the “I’m OK, you’re OK” approaches. Although the presentation concerns individual support, it can be supposed that this approach can be referred, at least partially, to other forms of support found in social and economic life.

Corrective Feedback (CF)
French learners of English
Opis:
The role of corrective feedback (CF) in L2 development has been the topic of much discussion in SLA literature (see for example Sheen and Ellis 2011 for a recent overview). Researchers have focused their attention on CF provided either by language teachers or by fellow L2 learners, whereas relatively little is known about phonetic feedback offered in a non-institutional setting during peer-to-peer native/non-native interactions as is the case with tandem language learning. Tandem language exchanges represent a special learning environment, as each participant takes turns being the native and the non-native side of the dialogue. Thus, in contrast to the typical L2 learning setting, the hierarchical structure between the participants is fluid: the expert-novice power relationship evolves as the meeting progresses and the conversation switches from one language to the other. In order to see how the distinguishing characteristics of tandem learning (such as solidarity and reciprocity) shape the process of L2 phonetic development in their own specific ways, we collected an English-French Tandem Corpus as part of the SITAF project (Spécificités des Interactions verbales dans le cadre de Tandems linguistiques Anglais-Français), launched at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3 in October 2012. We gathered linguistic data – both video and audio recorded – from face-to-face conversational exchanges held by 21 pairs of undergraduate students, with each ‘tandem’ consisting of a native speaker of English and a native speaker of French. The dialogues and reading passages were recorded on two occasions separated by a 3-month interval. The present paper offers a preliminary analysis of L2 pronunciation feedback on several renditions of the same text (The North Wind and the Sun), given to the French speakers by their English tandem partners. The passage was produced by each French participant three times: (1) during the ‘monitored’ reading, which was supervised by the English-speaking partner and which led to (2) the ‘second reading’ in the course of the first recording session, and then (3) the ‘final reading’ performed during the second recording session 3 months later. Data analysis will allow us to address the following questions relating to the study of phonetic corrective feedback: What is corrected by the native-speaking partner (henceforth NS)? Segmental or prosodic errors? Phonemic or allophonic deviations? What is the corrective strategy adopted by the NS? Is it explicit correction, recast, or elicitation? What is the learner’s uptake after receiving feedback? We hope that our data brings a valuable and fairly unique contribution to SLA research, helping to establish which errors get corrected and how it may have implications for setting priorities in L2 pronunciation teaching.

W artykule ponadto został zarysowany kształt współczesnego kina litewskiego, twórcy którego w swoich dziełach często odnoszą się do problematyki afektu i zmysłu. Niebagatelnym założeniem badawczym było również zwrócenie uwagi na kino litewskie jako takie, refleksja nad którym w Polsce jest rzadka i powierzchowna.
The author analyzes two Lithuanian films (The Collectress /dir. Kristina Buožytė, 2008/ and You Can’t Escape Lithuania /dir. Romas Zabarauskas, 2016/), exploring the possibilities of cinematic representations of affectivity from the perspective of media self-referentiality. Inspired by the psychoanalytical concepts of Jacques Lacan and the feminist reflection of Laura Mulvey and Mieke Bal, the author of the article used the example of the above-mentioned films to prove that affectivity is largely mediated, which is a peculiar sign of the our time. The article also outlines the shape of contemporary Lithuanian cinema, whose creators often refer to issues of affect and senses in their works. Another important research assumption is to draw attention to Lithuanian cinema, which is only rarely and superficially discussed in Poland.
