This paper describes the boundary element method (BEM) and the experimental and optimisation studies conducted to understand the potential of expansion chamber coupled micro-perforated cylindrical panel (MPCP) in enhancing the acoustic attenuation for in-duct noise control issues. Owing to the complex structure of the MPCP and to achieve the correct prediction of acoustic attenuation, BEM is adopted on the basis of the Simcenter 3D software to compute the sound transmission loss (TL), As the MPCP is cylindrical in shape with numbers of sub-milimeter holes, additive manufacturing-based 3D printing is utilised for the model prototyping to reduce current design limitation and enable fast fabrication. The TL measurement-based two-load method is adopted for model validation. Subsequently, parametric studies of the MPCP concerning the perforation hole diameter, perforation ratio and depth of air space are carried out to investigate the acoustic performance. Optimisation via response surface method is used as it allows for evaluating the effects of multiple parameters as required in this study. The model validation result shows that the error between the BEM and the measured values is relatively small and shows good agreement. The R-square value is 0.89. The finding from the parametric studies shows that a wider peak attenuation can be achieved by reducing the perforation hole diameter, and one way to increase the TL amplitude is by increasing the air cavity depth. Finally, the optimised MPCP model is adopted to the commercial vacuum cleaner for verification. The sound pressure level of the vacuum cleaner is significantly attenuated within the objective frequency of 1.7 kHz.

Opis:
The infrared emission of $Tm^{3+}//Ho^{3+}$-doped antimony-silicate optical fiber has been presented. Luminescence at 2.1 μm corresponding to ⁵I₇ → ⁵I₈ transition in holmium was obtained by energy transfer between $Tm^{3+}$ and $Ho^{3+}$ ions. According to the Förster-Dexter theory, the efficiency of energy transfer of the $\text{}^3 F_4 (Tm^{3+}) \rightarrow \text{}^5 text{|}_7 (Ho^{3+})$ transition was calculated. The optimization of the activator content and the donor $(Tm^{3+})$/acceptor $(Ho^{3+})$ ions concentration ratio were conducted with the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of energy transfer. It made possible to select best-suited glass which was used to manufacture double-clad optical fiber. Strong and narrow bands of amplified spontaneous emission which formed as a result of energy transfer between thulium and holmium ions were observed in the fiber under exciting with radiation at 795 nm wavelength.

Structure and transport properties have been studied for a series of La$\text{}_{0.75-x}$RE$\text{}_{x}$Ca$\text{}_{0.25}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ manganites with heavy rare earth ions of Gd, Dy, Ho substituting La with x=0, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75. Polycrystalline samples were prepared by the carbonate precipitation route. The oxygen content was determined by the iodometric titration. The X-ray investigations carried out by the powder method show that the unit cell volume gradually decreases and orthorhombic distortion of the lattice increases with rising RE content. Below the room temperature the electrical resistivity is of the semiconducting type for all the samples studied. Electrical resistivity vs. temperature dependences were analyzed within different models: simple thermal activation, Mott's variable range hopping, adiabatic, nonadiabatic, and bipolaron. The Curie temperatures of Gd, Dy, and Ho substituted manganites determined from magnetization measurements show that at 280 K all the samples are in the paramagnetic phase. The increasing RE fraction reduces magnetization at 4 K as compared to La$\text{}_{0.75}$Ca$\text{}_{0.25}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$.

Ternary $Ho_3Cu_4X_4$ compounds exhibit very complex magnetic phase diagrams. The rare earth ions occupy two non-equivalent crystal positions. Within both magnetic sublattices, magnetic moments exhibit different magnetic ordering temperatures. Moreover, in light of our results, it seems that both sublattices are weakly coupled between each other. This may be observed as independent changes of propagation vectors etc. The major difference of ordering temperatures between both compounds is likely related to substantial change of interatomic distances. Consequently, completely different crystalline electric field effects are observed.

A Commentary on the Book of Hosea
Opis:
In this article we included St. Jerome’s standpoint on Gomer - the prostitute and wife of Hosea. This topic was presented in two stages. First, we analysed an issue of ideal woman according to St. Jerome. Then we presented a picture of Gomer in St. Jerome’s comment on the Book of Hosea 1–3. The main point of this article was an attempt to answer a question how St. Jerome deals with conveying the biblical meaning, according to which the prophet on God’s command marries an adulterous woman. This issue is very interesting, because the author of Vulgate had rather unfavourable attitude towards the institution of marriage and Gomer was not only married, but also a prostitute.

Opis:
The effect of Ganoderma lucidum extract on glucose uptake was studied in L6 rat skeletal muscle cells. G. lucidum extract increased glucose uptake about 2-fold compared to control. The extract stimulated the activity of phosphatidylinositol (PI) 3-kinase which is a major regulatory molecule in the glucose uptake pathway. About 7-fold increased activity of a PI 3-kinase was observed after treatment with G. lucidum extract, whereas PI 3-kinase inhibitor, LY294002, blocked the G. lucidum extract-stimulated PI 3-kinase activity in L6 skeletal muscle cells. Protein kinase B, a downstream mediator of PI 3-kinase, was also activated by G. lucidum extract. We then assessed the activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), another regulatory molecule in the glucose uptake pathway. G. lucidum extract increased the phosphorylation level of both AMPK α1 and α2. Activity of p38 MAPK, a downstream mediator of AMPK, was also increased by G. lucidum extract. Taken together, these results suggest that G. lucidum extract may stimulate glucose uptake, through both PI 3-kinase and AMPK in L6 skeletal muscle cells thereby contributing to glucose homeostasis.

We synthesized the uniform monoclinic gallium oxide (Ga$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$) nanobelts by a simple thermal annealing of GaN powders. The as-syn-thesized nanobelts were rectangular in cross-sectional shape with width ranging from 100 to 700 nm. The length direction of the nanobelt was along [010]. Photoluminescence measurement under excitation at 325 nm showed that the Ga$\text{}_{ }$2O$\text{}_{3}$ nanobelts had a blue emission at around 454 nm.

The rare earths elements (REE) belong to the group of critical metals and they are achieving more and more interest due to their special properties. However, there occur some problems connected with their production. The most difficult phase is separation of REE. It includes a necessity to intensify currently applied processes and looking for new solutions. The present work introduces an idea to use differences in physical properties of the REE ions to get them separated. In the experimental part of the work some efforts were undertaken to analyse results presenting changes of holmium ions concentration under an influence of the magnetic field gradient. There was determined the gradient of magnetic field and concentration of Ho3+ ions depending on initial concentration of the solution and time. A simulation of changing the concentration of holmium ions in the solution under an influence of the magnetic field gradient was performed to compare the mathematical model with the obtained results.

Opis:
Dysregulated lipid metabolism in liver is an important hallmark of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which may be modulated by dietary polyphenols or microRNAs (miRNAs). However, the underlying epigenetic regulatory mechanism of polyphenols remain unclear. The current study aimed to address how miRNA mediates hepatic lipid metabolic control of curcumin, a polyphenolic food supplement. The results showed that 24 h treatment with 5 - 20 μM curcumin prevented free fatty acid-induced lipid accumulation by around 10 ~ 50% in HepG2 cells, which was attenuated by pre-transfection with 40 nM miR-22-3p mimic for 48 h. In consequence, transfection with 40 nM miR-22-3p inhibitor for 48 h significantly reduced lipid accumulation by around 10%. And 48 h overexpression of miR-22-3p targeting cardiolipin synthase 1 (CRLS1) gene, which encodes a mitochondrial phospholipid synthase, showed a similar regulatory effect. Thus, miR-22-3p and CRLS1 showed opposite effects in modulating lipid metabolism, which probably involved mitochondrial control. In summary, this study demonstrated that curcumin improved hepatic lipid metabolism via targeting the miR-22-3p/CRLS1 pathway. Identification of the epigenetic regulatory mechanism underlying lipid metabolism may thereby facilitate alleviation of metabolic disorders by natural polyphenols.

Brackish water populations of Pinacocoleps pulcher were collected from a lagoon in Korea. This species has never been described using silver impregnation and nuclear small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene. In the present study, we investigated the morphological and molecular attributes of P. pulcher using standard methods. The morphology was studied based on observations of live materials, silver-impregnated preparations, and scanning electron microscopy. The morphological characteristics are as follows: body size 80–90 × 40–50 µm in vivo, shape broadly ellipsoidal, body cross-section ellipsoidal, about seven anterior spines and about seven posterior spines, approximately 21 somatic ciliary rows, one macronucleus and one micronucleus, and a single caudal cilium. The SSU rRNA gene tree supports a sister relationship of P. pulcher to the genus Apocoleps, not P. tesselatus.

This study investigated the recovery behavior of valuable metals (Co, Ni, Cu and Mn) in spent lithium ion-batteries based on Al2O3-SiO2-CaO-Fe2O3 slag system via DC submerged arc smelting process. The valuable metals were recovered by 93.9% at the 1250°C for 30 min on the 20 Al2O3-40SiO2-20Cao-20Fe2O3 (mass%) slag system. From the analysis of the slag by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, it was considered that Fe2O2 and Al2O3 acted as basic oxides to depolymerize SiO4 and AlO4 under the addition of critical 20 mass% Fe2O3 in 20 Al2O3-40SiO2-Cao-Fe2O3 (Cao + Fe2O3 = 40 mass%). in addition, it was observed that the addition of Fe2O3 ranging between 20 and 30 mass% lowers the melting point of the slag system.
