Opis:: Ogrodzieniec commune is situated in the region, which is an integral part of the “Eagle Nests” Landscape Park. Almost half of the commune area is covered by forests. A rich flora consists of 700 species of vascular plants including 47 species which are preserved. The main touristic attraction of the commune are ruins of a castle from XIV century in Podzamcze. The ruins make great scenery for many tournaments, festivals and concerts which take place there every year. Besides castle ruins in Podzamcze, there are also worth to see the Holy Virgin on the Rock sanctuary, Birów Mountain – the most valuable Karst form in Poland and XVII-th century church in Ogrodzieniec. Moreover, in Gieble there are XVIII-th century church and a noble residence from the turn of 19th century. Six touristic trials run throughout the commune. It is easy to find a night’s lodging there, especially in private houses. The great interest make an ostrich farm and a horse-riding farm in Lachowiźno, however the touristic possibilities of Ogrodzieniec commune are not fully exploited.

Opis:: The aim of the study was to identify polymorphisms and mutations in the mitochondrial ND4 gene and to analyse the associations between the occurrence of molecular changes in mtDNA and phenotypic traits in tumours in German Shepherd dogs. Fifty samples obtained from blood and tumour tissues of German Shepherd dogs with diagnosed tumours were analysed. DNA extraction, amplification, and sequencing of the mtDNA ND4 gene, and bioinformatics, statistical, and in silico protein coding SNP analyses were performed. ND4 mutations and/or polymorphisms were noted in eleven nucleotide positions in nearly half of the examined dogs. All the changes were substitution mutations. A majority of the changes identified were homoplasmic. In one dog with osteosarcoma, blood heteroplasmy was detected. In two positions of the ND4 gene, presence of non-synonymous mutations leading to amino acid changes in the ND4 protein was reported. Analyses carried out to determine the deleterious effect of mutations indicated an almost 97 and 62% probability that a single amino acid substitution (p.G239V and p.I401T, respectively) in the protein has a negative impact on its function. The results of statistical analyses indicate a significant association between the occurrence of mutations in three loci of the ND4 gene and the location of tumours. The mutations identified may be a result of cell adaptation to the changes in the environment occurring during carcinogenesis. The high frequency of mutations in the tumours may indicate genetic instability of mtDNA, which may also play a role in carcinogenesis.

Opis:: Intermetallic REAuSn (RE = rare earth elements) compounds were studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetic measurements and 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy. It was shown that the majority of them exhibit complex antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperatures. The nature of hyperfine interactions has been discussed based on gamma-ray absorption spectroscopy together with magnetic and structural data. Lanthanide contraction is reflected in the lattice parameters and isomer shifts. Strong experimental arguments support correlation between crystallographic type of structure and magnetic disordering in investigated compounds.
