Despite the stereotype that an artistic stage of Cracow after World War 2 was dominated by Colourism, Surrealism, Tachisme and Matter Painting – distinctly present in the circle of the Second Krakow Group and its leader Tadeusz Kantor, and in the later period dominated by expressionistic figuration, we may also observe in the Cracow milieu a significant interest for cold Geometric Abstraction that is based on optical effects. Especially after 1960 we can follow in Cracow development of various tendencies in Geometric Abstraction to name only Op Art, Minimal Art or Post Painterly Abstraction. This development was undoubtedly affected by succeeding exhibitions of the International Print Biennial (at present Print Triennial) within which works from this artistic circle appeared next to popular in the 1960s Pop Art. Different versions of Geometric Abstraction were practised, for instance, by the following artists: Alina Kalczyńska, Ryszard Otręba and Jan Pamuła who, as one of the first artists in Poland, paid his attention to computer graphic art. The initiated in the 1960s trend for Geometric Abstraction in Cracow painting and graphics has been continued till today, being at the same time an alternative to figurative tendencies and multimedia art. The author discusses the succeeding generations of artists from Cracow dealing with Geometric Abstractionism, starting from emigrant artist Mieczysław Janikowski, who studied in Cracow as early as before the war and was a joint between inter-war and post-war avantgarde, and reaching at the Action of Abstraction Revaluation, undertaken by the Cracow gallery F.A.I.T in 2008–2009 with participation of the young- est artistic generation. Artists from Cracow, let it be Adam Marczyński and his apprentice Janusz Orbitowski, created geometric relief compositions. Jerzy Kałucki’s painterly Geometric Abstraction was accompanied by conceptual works and installations. The work of Adam Wsiołkowski is situated somewhere between abstraction and figuration and may be ascribed to the stream of Visualism. Nevertheless, what comes as characteristic for Polish artists focusing on Abstractionism is referring to the contents of a spiritual character, symbolic meanings of numbers and geometric figures. These tendencies may also be observed on the example of Cracow artists, to name but a few: Tadeusz Wiktor, Teresa Bujnowska, Andrzej Bednarczyk, Tamara Berdowska, Michał Misiak, and Beata Popławska.

In studies on Józef Czapski’s artistic work predominate discussions and analyses of his writings and of his social and political activity. As long as visual arts are concerned his critical oeuvre is much appreciated, a book on Pankiewicz and other remarks on art gathered in the volumes Oko [An Eye] and Patrząc [Looking]. Also his sketches are praised. Whereas his painting is not much described, as a negative though unjust opinion was shared with some of his fellow-artists Kapists who used to claim that Czapski lacked talent. In the following paper I have focused on formal, stylistic and aesthetic aspects of Czapski’s painting. Therefore, I act somehow against the main stream of studies on his artistic legacy. The Kapists came up with a very coherent painting doctrine, they stuck to it and made it a syllabus of artistic education in Poland after the WW2. One of the main theses of Polish Colourism was a belief that the value of an art piece is decided by its form and not contents, described disdainfully by the Kapists as “literature”. So did Czapski, in his writings he was rigid and uncompromising in tracing down weak points in form and colour in the then contemporary works of art, remaining unmoved in view of their pathetic symbols, he was for independence of art from the reality. When analysing Czapski’s paintings it is difficult not to notice that they differ significantly from ideal for the tendency works, especially those by Jan Cybis or Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa (the other Kapists also stood aside this norm, everyone in his own way). Only his early works meet the assumptions of the Kapist movement. In the later period, mainly after the WW2, during his emigration in Paris, he stopped being truthful to the rule of the picture’s autonomy, which was followed by the Kapists, and he moved rather towards subjects and art based upon observation of the surroundings, art which included some elements of magnified expression. Georges Rouault, Chaïm Soutine, Max Beckmann, as well as figurative works by Nicolas de Staël are listed, among others, as the sources of his inspiration. Some researchers trace analogies even between his works and Neo-Exspressionist “wild” new figuration in Germany in Czapski’s late period. However, in my opinion, Czapski was never entirely an Expressionist, remaining truthful to the traditions of École de Paris, in the first place being under a strong influence of Post-Impressionism of Pierre Bonnard, other Kapists alike. Czapski was therefore an artist focused on purely painterly values; he remained a colourist painter, by following his own individual version of Colourism, he treated it in a non-orthodox way.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper was to investigate in practice the possibility of using evolutionary algorithms to solve the traveling salesman problem on a real example. The goal was achieved by developing an original implementation of the evolutionary algorithm in Python, and by preparing an example of the traveling salesman problem in the form of a directed graph representing Polish voivodship cities. As part of the work an application in Python was written. It provides a user interface which allows to set selected parameters of the evolutionary algorithm and solve the prepared problem. The results are presented in both text and graphical form. The correctness of the evolutionary algorithm's operation and the implementation was confirmed by performed tests. A large number of tested solutions (2500) and the analysis of the obtained results allowed for a conclusion that an optimal (relatively suboptimal) solution was found.
