Human factor, often referred to in the literature as human resources, is an important type of resources in an enterprise in ensuring the highest possible quality of products and meeting the needs of customers. The paper presents the question of influence of human factor on the quality of manufacture of the finished product in individual stages of the production process. This problem was presented based on literature analysis and on observations in a production business. Due to the ever-increasing significance of human influence on product quality, this issue is not only very timely, but is constantly being developed.

W pracy przedstawiono podstawowe informacje dotyczące oceny efektywności procesu produkcyjnego. Zaprezentowano przykład kluczowych wskaźników efektywności (KPI) stosowanych przez producenta złączy stalowych. Zaprezentowano zestaw wskaźników finansowych i niefinansowych oraz sposób ich obliczania. Poddano analizie uzyskane wyniki. Podjęto próbę oceny zastosowania KPI do badania efektywności procesu produkcyjnego. Określono zalety i wady zastosowanego podejścia.
The paper presents basic information on the evaluation of the efficiency of the production process. An example of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used by the manufacturer of steel connectors is presented. A set of financial and non-financial indicators and how they are calculated are presented. The results were analyzed. An attempt was made to evaluate the use of KPIs to examination the efficiency of the manufacturing process. The advantages and disadvantages of the applied approach were determined.

Opis:
Polska jest "krajem - dużym emitorem rtęci" o rocznej wielkości emisji rtęci do atmosfery powyżej 10 Mg. Blisko 60% udział w tej emisji ma spalanie węgla w elektrowniach i elektrociepłowniach. W publikacji przedstawiona została koncepcja instalacji demonstracyjnej do monitorowania i redukcji emisji rtęci ze spalania węgla kamiennego w kotłach pyłowych. Instalacja ta będzie zlokalizowana przy kotle pyłowym o mocy 225 MW i wyposażonym w układ do katalitycznej selektywnej redukcji tlenków azotu. Instalacja demonstracyjna, zasilana surowymi gazami spalinowymi w ilości do 20 tys. m3 /godzinę, będzie się składać z następujących węzłów: elektrofiltra, płuczki do mokrego odsiarczania spalin, układu dozowania sorbentów pylistych, filtra workowego oraz aparatury kontrolno-pomiarowej do monitorowania m.in. zawartości rtęci i jej specjacji w gazach spalinowych. Badania, które zostaną przeprowadzone na instalacji demonstracyjnej obejmą m.in.: określenie dystrybucji rtęci pomiędzy poszczególne produkty procesu spalania węgla i oczyszczania gazów spalinowych, tj. żużel, popioły lotne wydzielane w elektrofiltrze, gips powstający w instalacji odsiarczania spalin oraz gazy spalinowe emitowane do atmosfery. Zostanie określona skuteczność redukcji emisji rtęci w metodach pasywnych, tj. SCR, ESP, WFGD. Zasadnicza część badań obejmować będzie usuwanie rtęci w wyniku iniekcji pylistych sorbentów do gazów spalinowych. Przedmiotem badań będą różne sorbenty: pyliste węgle aktywne oraz ich tanie substytuty oraz sorbenty mineralne, jak również miejsce dozowania sorbentów. Harmonogram przewiduje również badania nad utylizacją zużytych sorbentów. Istotnym elementem instalacji demonstracyjnej będzie możliwość pomiaru on line specjacji rtęci w gazach spalinowych, która jest jednym z najistotniejszych czynników decydujących o skuteczności redukcji emisji rtęci do atmosfery. Wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na tej instalacji pozwolą na opracowanie optymalnego układu usuwania rtęci z gazów spalinowych w aspekcie spełnienia wymagań tzw. Konwencji Rtęciowej.
Poland is a “Significant aggregate mercury emitter” with annual emissions to the atmosphere above 10 Mg. Almost 60% of this emission is caused by power plants and heating and power plants. This paper presents the conception of a demo installation for monitoring and reduction of mercury emissions from coal-fired boilers. The installation will be localized at a 225 MW boiler equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction system. The demo installation will be supplied with raw flue gases up to 20,000 m3 /h and will consist of the following nodes: an electrostatic precipitator, Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization, powdered sorbents dispensing system, fabric filter, and control and measuring equipment. Research conducted on the demo installation will include, among other things, the determination of mercury distribution between products of coal combustion and products of flue gases purification: slag, fly ashes, gypsum, and flue gases emitted to the atmosphere. The efficiency of reducing mercury emissions will be determined for passive methods such as: Selective Catalytic Reduction, Electrostatic Precipitator, and Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization. An essential part of the project will be focused on mercury removal via powdery sorbents injection into flue gases at different injection sites. Different sorbents such as powdered activated carbons, their cheap substitutes, and mineral sorbents will be tested. Research on the utilization of used sorbents will be carried out as well. Importantly, the demo installation will allow for the online monitoring of mercury speciation in flue gases. This speciation is a crucial factor determining the efficiency of reducing mercury emissions into the atmosphere. Research conducted on this installation will allow the development of an optimal system of mercury removal from flue gases under the terms of the Mercury Convention’s requirements.

The Japanese 5S method is the basis for optimizing processes in the enterprises. An example of the practices in the logistics enterprise is presented. These practices are an important prerequisite for successful work in the enterprise and have a positive impact on the implementation of the 5S system and other methods. 5S contributes to the development of the learning organization with employees. 5S practise is one of the techniques to improve quality and safety and health at the workplace. It was first popularized by Taiichi Ohno, who designed the Toyota Production System and Shigeo Shingo, who also put forward the concept of poka-yoke. The article presents Lean 5S methodology and selected results of research on performance and interference, before and after implementation of the 5S method in the logistic enterprise. The purpose of this paper is to implement the 5S and principles to assist manufacturing organisations to become more efficient and more productive. The case study presented in the paper will be useful to researchers, professionals and others concerned with this subject to understand the significance of 5S and Lean.

Przegląd Biblioteczny is the oldest Polish scientific periodical devoted to library science. The article recounts the activities of Józef Grycz with relation to the establishing of the journal in 1927, and next his professional engagement in the editorial works (through 1928). The author discusses Grycz’s undertakings chiefly on the basis of his articles published in Przegląd Biblioteczny, and the fragments of his correspondence with Adam Łysakowski published by Maria Dembowska. The matters which concerned Grycz the most were related to the organization and functioning of libraries in Poland.

Na współczesnym rynku usług turystycznych jednym z głównych elementów decydujących o sukcesie lub porażce przedsięwzięcia hotelarskiego jest jego lokalizacja. Szczególne znaczenie ma to na obszarach miejskich, gdzie konkurencja jest bardzo duża, a hotele często oferują podobny standard i jakość usług; tu dogodne usytuowanie może być kluczowym czynnikiem wyboru danego obiektu. Artykuł przedstawia najważniejsze aspekty lokalizacji hoteli. Problematyka rozpatrywana jest w dwóch płaszczyznach: ogólnej – dotyczącej wyboru kraju i regionu – oraz lokalnej – dotyczącej konkretnego miejsca, konkretnej lokalizacji danego hotelu. Na podstawie analizy literatury przedmiotu wskazano istotne tendencje odnoszące się do lokalizacji hoteli, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem dużych ośrodków miejskich. Rozważania teoretyczne potwierdziły potrzebę prowadzenia dalszych studiów, w tym w konkretnych przykładowych miastach, ze względu na fakt, że baza noclegowa ulega dość szybkim zmianom i pojawiają się nowe obszary koncentracji usług hotelarskich.
On today’s market of tourist services one of the main elements for the success or failure of a hotel is its location. This is of particular importance in urban areas where competition is very high, and hotels are often similar in terms of standard and quality of services, so convenient location may be a key factor in the selection of the object. This article presents the most important aspects of the location of accommodation facilities. The problem is considered in two dimensions – general – the choice of the country and the region, and – local – the choice of a particular place. Basing on the analysis of the literature, significant trends relating to the location of hotels were indicated, with special emphasis on the great centers of Polish sightseeing. Conducted theoretical research confirmed the need for further studies, including some case studies of the specific examples of cities, because accommodation establishments are changing fairly rapidly and new areas of concentration of hotel services are appearing.

Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) impairs working memory, but the exact nature of this deficit in terms of the underlying cognitive mechanisms is not well understood. In this study patients with mild clinical symptoms of PD were compared with matched healthy control subjects on a computerized battery of tests designed to assess spatial working memory and verbal working memory. In the spatial working memory task, subjects were required to recall a sequence of four locations. The verbal working memory task was methodologically identical except for the modality of the stimuli used, requiring subjects to orally recall a sequence of six digits. In either case, half of the sequences were structured in a way that allowed ‘chunking’, while others were unstructured. This manipulation was designed to dissociate the strategic component of task performance from the memory-load component. Mild medicated patients with PD were impaired only on the structured versions of the verbal working memory tasks. The analogous deficit in the spatial working memory was less pronounced. These findings are in agreement with the hypothesis that working memory deficits in PD reflect mainly the executive component of the tasks and that the deficits may be at least partly modality-independent.
