Opis:
In the paper, maximal values xe(τ) of the solutions x(t) of the linear differential equations excited by the Dirac delta function are determined. The analytical solutions of the equations and also the maximal positive values of these solutions are obtained. The analytical formulae enable the design of the system with prescribed properties. The complementary case to the earlier paper is presented. In an earlier paper it was assumed that the roots si are different, and now we consider the case when s1=s2=...=sn.

Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, one of the most renowned Polish composers, died on 12 November 2009. Athough he is no longer present among us, his music lives on. Sadly, many of contemporary musicians did not or did not want to notice the music composed by Professor Górecki. Some listeners got shocked, others were astonished by it. The music, aesthetic and philosophical values of his III Symphony were only discerned after 17 years. The triumphal return to Poland of the III Symphony’s scores arouse the great, unprecedented worldwide, interest in H. M. Górecki’s compositions. This unbelievably modest artist, both in life and in art, remained uncompromising until the end.Henryk Mikołaj Górecki created his compositions while being deeply rooted in the Polish tradition, particularly folk and religious, which was his source of inspiration. Before developing his own style he went a long artistic way. Always openly declared his origin that can be heard in his compositions and in his views of which he was never ashamed. He lived an austere life among his highlanders, disregarding his fame, solemn banquets and presents.During the last 20 years I have been privileged to perform Professor Górecki’s choral music with ten choirs, including 4 professional ones at the distinguished concerts, competitions and festivals. The choral music has been recorded on 12 CD records featuring various performers. With the assistance of the Choir of Polish Radio and as requested by the composer, I delivered several first performances of his works.I am a great debtor to the Professor for his teaching me humbleness towards music, humbleness towards every artist, co-performer and myself.

Opis:
The paper concerns the properties of linear dynamical systems described by linear differential equations, excited by the Dirac delta function. A differential equation of the form an x(n) (t) + ∙∙∙ a1 x’(t) + a0 x(t) = bm u (t) + ∙∙∙ + b1 u’(t) + b0 u(t) is considered with ai, bj >0. In the paper we assume that the polynomials Mn(s) = ansn + ∙∙∙ + a1s + a0 and Lm(s) = bmsm + ∙∙∙ + b1s + b0 partly interlace. The solution of the above equation is denoted by x(t, Lm, Mn). It is proved that the function x(t, Lm, Mn) is nonnegative for t ∊ (0, ∞) , and does not have more than one local extremum in the interval (0, ∞) (Theorems 1, 3 and 4). Besides, certain relationships are proved which occur between local extrema of the function x(t, Lm, Mn), depending on the degree of the polynomial Mn(s) or Lm(s) (Theorems 5 and 6).

Opis:
Henryk Górecki was a devout Polish Catholic composer. He testified that many of his compositions refer to Bogurodzica, a medieval Polish hymn pertaining to Marian devotion. Furthermore, Górecki himself wrote the first seven notes of Bogurodzica on a compositional sketch. This act strongly indicates that the first seven notes of Bogurodzica signify its sum. Consequently, the article has argued that Górecki derived three motives from the first seven notes of Bogurodzica and transformed them into musical signifiers of signified Polish Catholic Marian devotion in Totus Tuus. These motives include a descending fourth derived from Bogurodzica notes 3-6; a verticalization of the fourth; incomplete neighbor from Bogurodzica notes 1-2 and complete neighbor from Bogurodzica notes 5-7; and a voice exchange that visually depicts the Christian Cross as Augenmusik. The Bogurodzica-basei motives thoroughly saturate the crux of the composition. Within the sacred pitch space of Totus Tuus Górecki, the high priest of Holy Minimalism, delivers a profoundly moving autobiographical homily preaching the musical signification of Marian devotion.

Opis:
Henryk M. Gôrecki’s oeuvre is characteristic in its almost constant oscillation between meditation on the world, the universe, nature, and implication in history, tradition, culture; between the delight in the beauty of nature and the delight in culture. ‘We were no longer the centre of the universe, we became nothing.’This idea of the composer was fundamental for his creation of his II Symphony. Its two-movement form was a consequence of his own understanding of the Copernican revolution. Its Latin text was derived from the Book of Psalms; due to the circumstances of its commission, it also includes a fragment from Copernicus tractate. The distribution of tension in the first movement is non-trivial. Judging by the composer’s “cosmic” fascinations, the beginning is a “Big Bang”. The central climax of this movement appears in its finale, when the huge chorus sings and cries the words of the Psalms. In Movement Two we are ushered into a different, a lyrical world of contemplation. The soloists are singing in traditional and simplest possible way. The chorus, harmonized modally is singing the words of Nicolaus Copernicus about the “heaven” - “beauty” relation. Chorale-like, they place us in a transcendental dimension. The work is crowned with long-standing yet pulsating sonorities of the orchestral mass in pentatonic interval structure, resolved into an A flat major triad: in the tradition of Baroque rhetoric, depicts emotions of stillness, of the calm of the night; in late Romanticism - the emotion of mild and solemn. Perhaps these sonorities of the orchestral mass in the finale - that is exactly the sound of the Universe as Górecki has been expressed?

Opis:
The aim of the article is to analyse Three diagrams for solo flute Op. 15 by Henryk Mikołaj Gorecki in the light of compositional techniques used in the piece as well as placing the work in the context of the early output of the composer. In order to achieve the defined aims the score has been analysed as well as the statements of the composer and of people related to him. This research enabled the author to precise in what ways Gorecki uses techniques such as serialism, punctualism and aleatorism. In the paper composer’s individual and innovative approach to the avant-garde techniques is revealed. However, the idiomatic elements of the whole Gorecki’s style are also present in the analysed work. The article consists of two parts. The first part includes the problem of history and the style of Henryk Mikołaj Gorecki’s early works. The second part is devoted to the analysis and conclusions.
