Philosophical Posthumanism is a unique intellectual proposition – one in which Francesca Ferrando not only presents and expands but also celebrates posthumanist thought. The monograph is an open invitation to explore new horizons by de-familiarizing classical humanist thought embedded within the Western civilization. Explicitly deconstructing classical humanism, Ferrando offers her readership a versatile insight into the complexity of the polyphony of new voices including, but not limited to, Posthumanism, Transhumanism, and Antihumanism – contributing to the discourse, which, as the author affirms, is tantamount to the “philosophy of our time.”
Filozoficzny posthumanizm to wyjątkowa propozycja intelektualna – taka, w której Francesca Ferrando nie tylko prezentuje i rozwija, ale też celebruje myśl posthumanistyczną. Monografia jest otwartym zaproszeniem do odkrywania nowych horyzontów poprzez od-swajanie klasycznej myśli humanistycznej, osadzonej w cywilizacji zachodniej. Wyraźnie dekonstruując klasyczny humanizm, Ferrando oferuje swoim czytelnikom wszechstronny wgląd w złożoność polifonii nowych głosów, w tym m.in. posthumanizmu, transhumanizmu i antyhumanizmu – współtworząc dyskurs, który - jak twierdzi autorka - jest tożsamy z “filozofią naszych czasów”.

This article is an introduction to the accompanying translation of selected fragments of Piero della Francesca’s (1412?-1492) treatise De Prospectiva Pingendi (mid-1470s). Although Piero was rediscovered as a mathematician in the nineteenth century (his dissertation on perspective was first published in 1899), it was only in the second half of the twentieth century that his theories were systematically examined. As a result, Piero is now regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians of his time, who contributed to the development of studies on ancient geometry. From the point of view of art history, his most important treatise is De Prospectiva Pingendi, but this is only one part of Piero’s theoretical achievements, which also include Trattato d’Abaco (mid-1460s) and Libellus de Quinque Corporibus Regularibus (first half of the 1480s). All three works grew out of the same tradition of applied mathematics taught in schools for merchants and craftsmen (scuole d’abaco). At the same time, however, Piero was innovative in the way he greatly emphasised geometry. De Prospectiva Pingendi is a dissertation, which on the one hand shows painting as a craft, but on the other, offers a theory based on geometry, which according to Piero, was essential to painters. For this reason, the treatise is a unique example of a meeting point between art and science, craft and theory. Although not published during the Renaissance, it was well known as evidenced by the fact that later dissertations on perspective (eg. by A. Dürer) adopt definitions and issues introduced by Piero. Furthermore, some of his processes herald solutions that came to be known from more advanced and later-developed geometry (G. del Monte, G. Monge).

The article is a detailed review of ancient motifs and traces in Herbert's poetry. The author describes Herbert's classicising attitude as the poet's „archaeological” action. He removes from our vision of the Greco-Latin world „the patina and incrustations deposited by time and people” and shows not only its beauty, but also its grimness. This artistic attitude is a heroic attempt to touch the truth through touching „the trace”. The kind of perception accepted by the author allows revealing an epistemological perspective in these „classical motifs”. It also allows – which is especially significant – noticing both the „the classical character of art” and „the classical character of pain”. A number of questions essential for understanding Herbert's poems are also in the circle of the author's interests, like ancient philosophy and mythology, the relation between „art” and „life”, the consequences of artistic choices and gestures, and a reflection on poetics.

In the House and Space2 photographic series, Francesca Woodman captures the environments that may be considered disruptive; still, it is a female model-in her inconstant poses, always partially blurred or hidden-that holds the viewer’s attention. The pictures therefore evoke a twofold sense of obscurity, since their unfriendly interiors are occupied by the uncanny, semi-absent yet ceaselessly present, dis-appearing woman, who turns out to be Woodman herself. Woodman’s spectral presence and the unhomely locations she haunts-being simultaneously the photographer and the object of her photographs-are examined in this article by means of Bracha L. Ettinger’s matrixial theory. Ettingerian psychoanalysis, juxtaposed with Roland Barthes, Sigmund Freud, and Jacques Lacan, provides the tools to challenge the dominant non-affirmative understanding of Woodman’s self-portraits as works of disappearing and failing subjectivity: an understanding whose obvious point of support is found in the artist’s biography. Instead, Ettinger’s system makes it possible to look at this oeuvre through the prisms of fragility, homeliness, and the potential emergence of blurry, ghostly subjectivity. Moreover, the article examines the ways in which Woodman resists the divisions imposed on her and the medium she uses (such as the Barthesian triad of Operator, Spectator, and Spectrum, and the dichotomies of me / the Other and subject / object).

Le progrès industriel et commercial a permis le développement de deux catégories de technologies qui se divisent en technologies matérielles et en technologies immatériel- les. La science de l’économie nous enseigne que les technologies matérielles sont sou- mises à des retours économiques décroissants, tandis que les technologies immatérielles se caractérisent par des rendements croissants. La nouvelle technologie Internet (qui utilise le canal de l’information et le canal de la connaissance) est utilisée dans les différents secteurs des entreprises: logistique, marketing, promotion etc. Cette nouvelle technologie a permis à de nombreuses entreprises d’éviter de quitter le marché, d’améliorer et de surmonter de nombreuses limites territoriales et culturelles. L’utilité liée à la valeur de l’information et de la connaissance tend à être amplifiée en raison de l’effet des externalités positives, mais sommes-nous vraiment certain qu’il n’existe aucune limite à cette croissance? Que l’on n’arrive à un point où la technologie et Internet, au lieu d’apporter des marges positives, détruisent la richesse? Est-il possible de revenir au point de départ? Ce sont les questions que se posent les entrepreneurs qui désormais «sont dans le jeu».

The author of the sketch shows that the poem Piero della Francesca – during the first reading, seemingly an austere, restrained description of paintings by a 15th-century artist – is actually one of those Jastrun’s poems in which the poet creates the vision of his metaphysics, discussing such issues as time, human fate and the sacred. The analysis of a special way in which Jastrun describes Piero’s paintings leads the author of the article to a conclusion that the poet creates a reality in his poem, corresponding to the specifics of the artist’s paintings, characterized by immobility, essentiality, constancy, immortality. Such world (understood as the reality of art) is opposed in the works of the author of Punkty świecące, to the human reality, often shown as a space of permanent time flow, destruction of life, and loss of the loved ones, places and own identity, as well as hope to reach fulfillment, to reach the secret of existence, the sense. The article also interprets the religious meaning present in the poem. Metaphysical feelings arise in it – as in many other poems by Jastrun – resulting from the experience of delight, recognition of a Mystery given in a momentary glimpse of consciousness

This paper sustains that rhetoric can be a fruitful way of practicing philosophy of language. The starting point is a suggestion drawn from the work of the Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito. According to Esposito, one of the main characteristics of the Italian thought is the focus on the necessary connection between language and extra-linguistic world. I argue that rhetoric (intended in an Aristotelian sense), thanks to its extra-linguistic aim (persuasion), pays particular attention to this connection. This has important consequences: 1. considering speakers and listeners as essential components of speech and assigning a key position to the listener; 2. including the sphere of emotion in the fi eld of refl ection on language; 3. considering truth as a social practice; 4. considering the agonistic dimension as a constitutive element of the speech.

Piero della Francesca był artystą renesansu. Jego działalność twórcza oscylowała wokół naukowego rozumienia i zastosowania perspektywy w malarstwie oraz symboliki w przedstawieniach sakralnych. Obraz „Sen św. Hieronima”, znany także jako „Biczowanie Chrystusa”, został zamówiony przez rodzinę Montefeltro pomiędzy 1445 a 1460 rokiem. Przedstawienie jest powszechnie znane jako „Biczowanie” lub „Biczowanie Chrystusa” ze względu na scenę drugiego planu, która przedstawia akt chłosty unieruchomionej postaci. Tempera o wymiarach około 58 cm x 81 cm przemawia tematyką sacrum ujętą zgodnie z ideami epoki renesansu oraz naukową podstawą w kompozycji przedstawienia. Dialog pomiędzy tym, co empiryczne, a tym, co semantyczne, wytworzył dzieło, które współczesne interpretacje umieszczają jako jedno z kluczowych w rozwoju awangardy sztuki współczesnej. Tajemniczość przedstawienia przywodzi szereg interpretacji, nakreślając tak ważną w sacrum rolę symboliki. Na poziomie kompozycji malarskiej artysta zastosował kilka reguł geometrii, tworząc niejednoznaczną budowę perspektywy. Zabieg ten nadaje przedstawieniu cechy generatywne, których język jest charakterystyczny także dla twórczości nowoczesnej. Artykuł jest próbą analizy geometrycznej struktury kompozycji dzieła oraz podstaw naukowych towarzyszących jego powstawaniu. Przedstawiona zostanie także warstwa symboliczna, której odczytanie decyduje o wielowątkowości przedstawionego malarskiego doświadczenia sacrum. Wynikiem tych prac jest wirtualna, trójwymiarowa rekonstrukcja słynnego w historii sztuki obrazu.
Piero della Francesca was an artist of the Renaissance. His creative activity pointed at scientific understanding and application of perspective in painting and the symbolism of sacred performances. The painting “Dream of St. Jerome” also called as “The Flagellation of Christ” was commissioned by the Montefeltro family between 1445 and 1460 year. Presentation is commonly known as the “Flagellation” and “Flagellation of Christ”, due to the second stage of the plan, which represents the act of flogging immobilized form. Tempera measuring about 58 cm x 81 cm recognize the sacred ideas of the Renaissance and the scientific basis of the painting. The dialogue between what is empirical and what semantic produced work that contemporary interpretations put them as one of the key in the development of avant-garde contemporary art. Secrecy presentation brings a number of interpretations, outlining such an important role of the symbolism in the sacred art. At the level of a painting, artist applied a few rules of geometry to create an ambiguous construction of perspective. This treatment gives the presentation of the characteristics of generative whose dialect is also characteristic of modern creativity. The article is an attempt to analyze the geometric structure of the composition of the work. The paper will be presented the symbolic side of sacred art, which determines the reading of multi-threading presented painter’s experience of the sacred. The result is a virtual, three-dimensional reconstruction of painting famous in the history of art.

The article deals with the subject of the South Tyrol’s peculiarities in Francesca Melandri’s debut novel Eva dorme (Eve sleeps, 2011). The author presents the most important characteristics of the region – the multilingualism of province, lack of understanding between the different ethnic groups, relationships with newcomers, reciprocal stereotypes and the legal separation of italian- and german-speaking groups. The novel is an interesting and original position on italian publishing market (due to a subject of novel) but it represents a conservative attempt to the problem of local identity and didactics aspiration to approach a less well-known part of country to the italian reader.
Artykuł porusza zagadnienie obecności Południowego Tyrolu we współczesnej literaturze włoskojęzycznej. Autorka stara się pokazać, w jaki sposób poszczególne cechy charakterystyczne dla alpejskiej prowincji zostały zrealizowane w powieści Eva dorme Franceski Melandri (2011). Wśród omówionych problemów znalazły się: kwestia wielojęzyczności regionu, brak zrozumienia między poszczególnymi grupami etnicznymi oraz relacje z przybyszami spoza prowincji, stereotypy i wzajemne uprzedzenia oraz prawnie narzucone rozdzielenie grupy włosko- i niemieckojęzycznej. Powieść, ze względu na poruszaną tematykę, jest ciekawą i oryginalną pozycją na włoskim rynku wydawniczym, można w niej jednak dostrzec zachowawczy sposób przedstawiania lokalnej tożsamości regionalnej oraz aspiracje dydaktyczne, służące przybliżeniu włoskiemu czytelnikowi mało znanej części kraju.

This paper addresses sampling issues arising in the context of household-based child labour surveys. It presents some of the sampling strategies elaborated in the ILO book Sampling for Household-based Surveys of Child Labour (Verma, 2008). A typology of surveys of child labour is identified, and the fundamental distinction between two types with very different objectives - termed 'child labour surveys' and 'labouring children surveys', respectively - is clarified and emphasised. Following a broad survey of national practices in conducting surveys of child labour, linkages between different types of surveys and some specific sampling techniques are explained.

While the European Union is launching its main challenge through the next enlargement the co-operation between the EU member states and the Associated countries is becoming more and more critical. A closer collaboration is thus expected at economic and political level in terms of knowledge transfer, adoption of models of sustainable growth, increasing o f competitiveness and development of novel opportunities for the players. Under this framework e-commerce solutions can support the strategy towards the change but their adoption, mainly by the SMEs, should be well established and as a result of an informed decision. The BENEBUS project is in line with this approach being mainly focused to provide the Eastern and Western European SMEs with innovative assessment models and benchmarking tools aimed at improving their way to approach e-business implementation.

This article addresses the key role of performance space in mediating between cultural locations. It discusses two Portuguese performances of Shakespeare where audiences were invited to become part of the performance and the ways in which this dehierarchization of the performance space framed a cross-cultural encounter between a globalized text and a localized performance context. In Teatro Oficina’s 2012 King Lear, both audience and performers sat around a large table in a production which reflected upon questions of individual and collective responsibility in Shakespearean tragedy and in the wider political sphere. In the middle of this performance space hung a large cube onto which the translated text was projected, setting up a spatial tension between text and performance that also foregrounded the translocation of the Shakespearean text to a Portuguese performance context. In Tiago Rodrigues’ 2013 By Heart, ten members of the audience were invited onstage to learn Shakespeare’s Sonnet 30 “by heart and not by brain.”1 In doing so, Rodrigues emphasized the cultural embeddedness of Shakespearean texts in a wider European cultural context and operated a subtle shift from texts to performance as a privileged repository for the cultural memory of Shakespeare. The article explores how these spatial shifts signaled the possibility of enabling cross-cultural identifications with Shakespeare through performance.

The city has become a space of diversity. To be sustainable, inclusive and less unequal, urban policy and policies must therefore take these differences into account. In this moving film, the female component represents a fundamental aspect. For a heavy cultural question, in Italy there has been a delay in society with respect to the idea of equal opportunities between men and women. Italy remains far from the watchword - mainstreaming - which Europe, on the other hand, has begun to develop and disseminate. And it is a European document that for the first time introduces the theme of the “right to the city for women”. There is certainly no shortage of innovative cases also promoted by female figures in Italian local administrations. In practice, however, a systematic overview is lacking. Apart from the issue of sustainable mobility, temporal policies are particularly important for a gender sensitive territorial planning. The interesting and innovative aspect is the transversality of the temporal dimension, both in the lives of individuals and in the social organization of urban space. The lockdown canceled the diversification of the times of daily life and the use of urban space: “time” considered a certain fact, never questioned, has become a precious, quality asset; through new rhythms for a new urban livability and mostly for a better life of women. For this to happen, however, the city must change its skin, it must change its thinking and above all its rhythms. And this is precisely the perspective recalled in a document drawn up by the Municipality of Milan: “Milan 2020 - Adaptation strategy” (Municipality of Milan, 2020). Therefore, a new Territorial Schedule Plan, whose specificity is the transversality of the temporal dimension. A new city management tool through the organization of time, from timetables to accessibility with particolar attention to the prospect of a “city 15 minutes away”. Promoting women’s well-being satisfies collective and community interests and improves the quality of all: women and men.

This article investigates the phenomenon of Ukrainian migrant women employed in the domestic and care sector in Italy. The analysis is based on a broad doctoral research carried out both in Ukraine and in Italy between 2005 and 2007. In particular, I investigate the subjective perception of downward mobility and how migrant women face this process of social devaluation and respond to it, taking into account that, in the case of Ukrainian female migration, the social skidding produced by migration goes hand in hand with the erosion of social and professional identity as experienced in their origin country during the 1990s. Thus, in order to comprehend the complexity of migration experiences it is necessary to analyse the migrants' whole life trajectories. The main results of the article are that Ukrainian migrant women give meaning to the process of devaluation by viewing it as an interlude in their life and as a sacrifice that serves to improve their families’ upward social mobility. Furthermore, in order to mitigate the social skidding and the asymmetrical relationships that characterise domestic work, they prefer to personalise the relationship with their employers and to avoid working for low educated and working class people. Finally, Ukrainian domestic workers react to the homogenisation engendered by migration by differentiating themselves both from other foreign nationals employed in the same sector, and from the ‘rough mass’ of their fellow countrywomen.

Aim/purpose – This paper aims at investigating the existence of Consumer Social Responsibility (CSR), legally based on the second-generation EU consumerist legislation, which affects companies deeply in fulfilling socially responsible choices of business. Design/methodology/approach – The method followed-up of CSR is a bottom-up perspective inspired by matching corporate social responsibility with consumer social responsibility. Among consumers a strategic role is entrusted to the ‘state’ that is named in this paper ‘superconsumer’. Findings – It is argued that a juridical consumer responsibility may be affirmed as part of a European strategy to inspire voluntary sustainable choices by corporations, imposing a social responsibility for consumers from the bottom. Pieces of evidence are collected throughout three sectors of EU legislation: financial market, energy environment and public procurement. Research implication/limitation – The implication of this research consists in drawing a path of inference from the well-known rights of consumers to their duties including consumers’ social responsibilities. The most significant limitation of the study is its restriction on investigating only three sample domains among larger sectors within EU consumer law and preferably Italian law. A subsequent development of this research will fill this gap by broadening the investigation field. Originality/value/contribution – There are no previous studies in Italy and in European literature concerning the role of consumer law in affecting CSR and, more generally, in the European juridical literature on CSR about the influence of consumers’ legal responsibility on socially responsible choices of companies. In addition, it leads on to the original idea of the existence of juridical consumers’ duties inferred by consumers’ rights as the inseparable effect of consumers’ empowerment.

Around 1930, Martin Heidegger approached Hölderlin’s poetry, welcoming his solicitations and hints in order to redeem the experience of the usage of language after the linguistic interruption of Being and Time that showed him the poverty of metaphysical language. Linguistic poverty is closely linked to metaphysical poverty and to the historical and destiny-related impossibility to grasp Being. From the 1930s onwards, the issue concerning the sense of Being becomes for Heidegger an issue concerning the sense of language. Heidegger appears to be “employing” Hölderlin, subordinating his philosophical intuitions to the gears of ontology. Thus, in Heidegger’s meditations, Hölderlin’s merit is outlined as the intuition of the outcome of Western metaphysics in terms of the extreme oblivion of Being and the rambling of thinking, foreseeing the end of an era and introducing the dawn of a second beginning: the one of poetizing thinking.

We study eigenvalue problems with discontinuous terms. In particular we consider two problems: a nonlinear problem and a semilinear problem for elliptic equations. In order to study the existence of solutions we replace these two problems with their multivalued approximations and, for the first problem, we estabilish an existence result while for the second problem we prove the existence of multiple nontrivial solutions. The approach used is variational.

The Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro (ISCR) has always been involved in the diffusion of Cesare Brandi’s restoration theory and practice in the international panorama.Since 1950 Brandi’s theory has spread through model interventions, scientific advice and the tutoring of international students. Those factors lead also to an increase of trust and esteem towards the ISCR.In the 21st century, the ISCR started to be involved in the establishment of new conservation schools by foreign countries. Moreover, it promoted translations of the “Teoria del Restauro” (theory of conservation) book in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Serbian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Polish. This permitted a deepened understanding and integration in the local culture of Brandi’s theory, rather than the direct execution of the fifties.For those reasons, today the Italian conservator-restorers face the new opportunity and growing perspective: looking at Brandi’s theory in direct contact with the cultural context in which is being applied, through the dialogue with local, highly trained professionals.The importance of this dialogue has become particularly evident during collaborations with eastern countries, with a particular interest in which part of the theory can merge and which will diverge with the religious and cultural principles. Especially, the experience of the ISCR in Ajanta in India (2004-2018) and Kathmandu in Nepal (after the 2013 earthquake) will be discussed.

Il nome della rosa (1980) di Umberto Eco rappresenta uno degli esempi più perfetti di romanzo postmoderno italiano e unisce la tradizione storica con il molteplice della modernità. Proprio il labirinto-biblioteca nasce dalla combinazione tra storia, mito e immaginario letterario. Con questo oggetto romanzesco i costruttori del labirinto e i monaci dell’abbazia hanno creato un groviglio di spazi, libri e parole paragonabile ai labirinti di Joyce, Borges e Calvino. Il labirinto è un elemento fondamentale per l’avventura di Adso e Jorge anche perché diventa lo specchio di un secolo, il Novecento, e di una società ‘liquida’ e multiforme.
Imię róży (1980) Umberta Eco, łącząc w sobie elementy tradycji historycznej i złożoność nowoczesności, stanowi jeden z najbardziej reprezentatywnych przykładów postmodernistycznej powieści włoskiej.. Labirynt-biblioteka jest kombinacją historii, mitu i wyobraźni literackiej. Poprzez tę fikcjonalną konstrukcję budowniczowie labiryntu oraz mnisi z opactwa stworzyli plątaninę przestrzeni, tekstów i słów porównywalną do labiryntów Joyce’a, Borgesa i Calvina. Labirynt stanowi również kluczowy element wątku Adsa i Jorgego, ponieważ niczym w lustrze odbija się w nim historia XX wieku i społeczeństwo płynnej nowoczesności.

This paper focuses on Dante’s centrality in the Umberto Eco’s reflection about persistence over the centuries of the “way of thinking” defined “hermetic semiosis” by the author of The name of the rose, which has affected at considerable lenght many contemporary “reader-oriented” theories and practices. In fact Dante, by contravening the Thomist devaluation of the poetic genre, not only assigned a revealing and mystic-prophetical function to poetry, but also, at the same time, according to Eco, anticipated the “epistemological break” begun with florentine neoplatonism, namely “that mystic text trend which is still continuing today” (Eco 1985).

Following the proposal in Seiler and Heine, possession is defined in terms of relationship between two entities, called possessor and possessed. Linguistic possession can be of different types: permanent, physical, inalienable, abstract, etc. In Italian and Croatian, possession is expressed by adjectives, pronouns, and prepositional phrases. In Croatian, it can be expressed also by morphological cases. In Italian, possession is rendered with possessive adjectives and pronouns (mia sorella) and the complement of possessive specification (la sorella di Mira). In Croatian, it is expressed equally (moja sestra); with the dative of the personal pronouns (sestra mi); with the possessive adjectives (posvojni pridjev; Mirina sestra); with the double genitive (sestra mojega oca); with the complement of possessive specification in the substandard varieties (sestra od Mire). The contribution investigates the ways to express possession in Molise Croatian, a štokavo-ikavo variety in use in the linguistic island of the Croatian minority in Italy, in Molise, from a contact-linguistics and contrastive perspective. As at all linguistic levels, when indicating ownership, Molise Croatian has conservative, Croatian, and innovative uses and forms, derived from contact with Italian and the Abruzzo-Molisan variety. In Molise Croatian, one can express ownership by using possessive pronouns (posvojne zamjenice/pridjevi; moja sestra); the dative of personal pronouns (sestra mi); the possessive adjective (posvojni pridjev; sestra Mirina); the complement of possessive specification (sestra do Mire); the double genitive (sestra mojoga oca). The main objective of this corpus-based research is to analyse and describe the influence of Italian and of the Abruzzo-Molisan variety on the morphosyntax and the distribution of possessives in Molise Croatian.
Riprendendo l’idea di Seiler e di Heine, il possesso è la relazione che si instaura tra due costituenti, possessore (possessor) e posseduto (possessum). Il possesso linguistico può essere di diverso tipo: permanente, fisico, inalienabile, astratto ecc. Sia in italiano che in croato il possesso è reso con aggettivi, pronomi e sintagmi preposizionali, ma il croato possiede il caso morfologico per esprimere il possesso. In italiano il possesso è reso con gli aggettivi e i pronomi possessivi (mia sorella) e il complemento di specificazione possessiva (la sorella di Mira). In croato esso è espresso ugualmente (moja sestra); con il dativo dei pronomi personali (sestra mi); con l’aggettivo possessivo (cr. posvojni pridjev) (Mirina sestra); con il doppio genitivo possessivo (sestra mojega oca); con il complemento di specificazione possessiva nelle varietà substandard (sestra od Mire). Il contributo indaga i mezzi per esprimere il possesso nel croato molisano, varietà štokavo-ikava in uso nell’isola linguistica della minoranza croata in Italia, in Molise, da una prospettiva contattologica e contrastiva e in base ai dati del corpus. Come a tutti i livelli linguistici, si stabilisce che anche nei mezzi per esprimere il possesso il croato molisano presenta usi e forme conservativi, croati, e innovativi, derivati dal contatto con l’italiano e la varietà abruzzese-molisana. Il possesso nel croato molisano si esprime con i pronomi possessivi (cr. posvojne zamjenice/pridjevi) (moja sestra); il dativo dei pronomi personali (sestra mi); l’aggettivo possessivo (cr. posvojni pridjev) (sestra Mirina); il complemento di specificazione possessiva (sestra do Mire); il doppio genitivo possessivo (sestra mojoga oca). Lo scopo della presente ricerca corpus-based è l’analisi dell’influsso dell’italiano e della varietà abruzzese-molisana sulla morfosintassi e sulla distribuzione dei possessivi nel croato molisano.

Innerhalb des Beitrags wird am Beispiel zweier Werke mitteleuropäischer AutorInnen, die in ihrer „Nichtmuttersprache“ Deutsch schreiben, der Versuch unternommen, literarische Darstellungen von Migrationsdiskursen unter dem Fokus zweier extrem gegenläufiger aktueller, theoretischer Positionen zu betrachten: der „Move“ (Khanna 2021), wonach die Migration, als das „Normalitätserwartung“ und die Sesshaftigkeit als Ausnahme gilt. Zum anderen geht es um die Solastalgie als das „Heimweg ohne Exil“. Beide Werke machen darauf aufmerksam, dass in einer globalisierten und sich immer stärker vernetzenden Welt die eigene Umgebung selbst zur Fremde mutiert, sodass als einzige Möglichkeit bleibt, unterwegs. also on the move, zu bleiben.
Using the examples of two works of Central European authors (a female and a male) who write in German as in their „non-native-language“ the article tries to point out attempts to interpretate literary reprensentations of special miogration discourses under the focus oft two extremely opposing current theoretical positions: the „move“ (Khanna 2021) according to which migration as an expectation of normality and sedentary life would be he exception today. On the other hand the „solastalgy“ (Morizont 2019) as the way of „home with no exile“. Both works raise awareness for that in a globalized and increasinly world one´own environment is mutating into something foreign, so that the only oportunity would be to sty on the move.

In The Rhetoric of Empire (1993), David Spurr analyzes journalistic discourse on the Third World and isolates a nucleus of rhetorical figures around which representations of the colonial and post-colonial other are articulated. In this paper, I will borrow, in particular, three of these rhetorical figures (naturalization, idealization, appropriation) and I will adapt them to the context of contemporary Anglo-American representations of Italian culture in popular literature. I will argue that a substantial number of contemporary works on Italy retains the basic assumption of a world ordered around a dichotomy between modern cultures and pre-modern ones, and makes of this taxonomy the basic spatiotemporal context for its narratives.

Introduction Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by recurrent episodes of prolonged partial or complete obstruction of the upper airways. Several study groups studied the effect of snoring and OSAS on auditory function, showing an increase in the incidence of hearing loss in apneic patients, an earlier onset and/or a degree of hearing loss deeper than in peers. The aim of our study is to evaluate the audiological performance of a population of simple-snoring patients and patients suffering from mild OSAS, and the impact that such pathological condition can have on the auditory function, considering the significant levels of chronic noise. Materials and Methods Data was collected by analyzing audiometric exams on snoring patients and a control group of non-snoring patients. Our study included simple snoring patients without OSAS (AHI < 5) or with low level of OSAS (5< AHI < 15). Possible hearing loss was classified in a crescent scale (A-B-C-D-E), from greater to minor auditory performance, according to the indications of the national protocol of occupational medicine for evaluation of hearing loss in patients exposed to chronic noise. Results We have found independence between simple snorers, mild-OSAS snorers and non-snoring patients compared to the scale of hearing performance classification. Conclusions Our results show a distribution of hearing loss in the different groups that appear independent of the presence or absence of snoring, complicated or uncomplicated by mild OSAS.

Chapel 11 is one of the 45 chapels of the Sacro Monte di Varallo. It is decorated with 16th century polychrome terracotta statues and wall paintings representing the Massacre of the Innocents. Since 2015, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) is in charge of its conservation. Up-close examination of the wall paintings allowed to observe the presence of overpainting, which were evaluated to have no aesthetical and/or technical quality. During the study phase and with preliminary tests for treatment development, it became clear that the removal of this overpaint was risky for the underlying original decoration. Moreover, it was not possible to determine if under the overpainting there was the original layer and in what condition it was. Although IR Reflectography showed the presence of underdrawings, this information did not always coincided with the presence of a paint layer. Considering that the overpainting covers about 80% of the surface, SUPSI strongly advised against embarking on its removal. This conclusion was achieved after several removal attempts and through regular communication meeting with the stakeholders aimed at illustrating the situation and the results achieved. SUPSI considered more ethical to focus on the development of a ‚reversible’ stabilization intervention considering that in the future new technologies (to assess the presence of paintings below and to remove overpainting) could make the recovery of what remains of the original decoration easier. This paper describes the project in terms of the ethical challenges faced when conflicting expectations about the project arised.

Covid-19 pandemic is severely impacting worldwide. A line of research warned that facial occlusion may impair facial emotion recognition, whilst prior research highlighted the role of Trait Emotional Intelligence in the recognition of non-verbal social stimuli. The sample consisted of 102 emerging adults, aged 18-24 (M = 20.76; SD = 2.10; 84% females, 16% males) and were asked to recognize four different emotions (happiness, fear, anger, and sadness) in fully visible faces and in faces wearing a mask and to complete a questionnaire assessing Trait Emotional Intelligence. Results highlighted that individuals displayed lower accuracy in detecting happiness and fear in covered faces, while also being more inaccurate in reporting correct answers. The results show that subjects provide more correct answers when the photos show people without a mask than when they are wearing it. In addition, participants give more wrong answers when there are subjects wearing masks in the photos than when they are not wearing it. In addition, participants provide more correct answers regarding happiness and sadness when in the photos the subjects are not wearing the mask, compared to when they are wearing it. Implications are discussed.

Introduction. Several studies have dealt with the issue of professional risk factors and onset of knee osteoarthritis (OA). In particular, occupational epidemiological studies have provided evidence that activities resulting in biomechanical overload may be linked with an increased risk of knee OA – also among farmers. To our knowledge, no cases of knee OA among chestnut farmers have been reported in the literature. Case report. We report the case of a 70-year-old Caucasian male who has worked for more than 50 years on a chestnut farm. In 2007, an X-ray and a MRI, performed after a workplace accident to his left knee, showed the presence of knee OA. His job required a range of repetitive tasks, such as squatting, kneeling, climbing, walking on sloping terrain, assuming uncomfortable postures, and lifting and carrying heavy loads for the great majority of the working day. All the aforementioned tasks are known occupational risk factors for knee OA. Regarding individual risk factors, at the time of the first diagnosis of knee OA, the worker was 64-years-old with a body mass index of 26.5 kg/m2. He reported no cases of arthritis among his relatives and no sports playing on his part. In addition, his medical history revealed the presence of two minor lumbar disc herniations and tendinitis of the long head of the biceps. Conclusion. Considering the lack of major individual risk factors for knee OA, it is reasonable to suppose that five decades of exposure to biomechanical overload as a chestnut farmer was a relevant risk factor for the onset of the disease.

Wprowadzenie: Zespół obturacyjnego bezdechu sennego (Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome; OSAS) charakteryzuje się nawracającymi epizodami przedłużającej się, częściowej lub całkowitej obturacji górnych dróg oddechowych. Kilka grup badawczych analizowało wpływ chrapania i OSAS na funkcję słuchową, wykazując wzrost częstości występowania utraty słuchu u pacjentów z bezdechami oraz wcześniejszy początek i/lub głębszy stopień utraty słuchu w porównaniu z rówieśnikami. Celem niniejszego badania była ocena wyników audiologicznych populacji pacjentów chrapiących i chorych z łagodną postacią OSAS oraz wpływu tego patologicznego stanu na funkcję słuchową, z uwzględnieniem obecności istotnego poziomu przewlekłego hałasu. Aromatic plant species present in the natural Park of Tuscany Archipelago are used as flavoring agents and spices, as dietary supplements and in cosmetics and aromatherapy. The plants are usually collected from wild stands, inducing a depletion of the natural habitat. Therefore, micropropagation of these aromatic plants can play a role in the protection of the natural ecosystem, can guarantee a massive sustainable production and can provide standardized plant materials for diverse economical purposes. The aim of this study is to compare the volatile organic compounds produced by the wild plants with those from in vitro plantlets using headspace solid phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME) followed by capillary gas-chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Typical plants of this natural area selected for this work were Calamintha nepeta L., Crithmum maritimum L., Lavandula angustifolia L., Myrtus communis L., Rosmarinus officinalis L., Salvia officinalis L. and Satureja hortensis L. Different explants were used: microcuttings with vegetative apical parts, axillary buds and internodes. Sterilization percentage, multiplication rate and shoot length, as well as root formation were measured. The volatile aromatic profiles produced from in vitro plantlets were compared with those of the wild plants, in particular for C. maritimum, R. officinalis, S. officinalis and S. hortensis. This study indicated that the micropropagation technique can represent a valid alternative to produce massive and sterile plant material characterised by the same aromatic flavour as in the wild grown plants.

This article explores the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) migrants from Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union in Scotland. Drawing on interviews with 50 migrants, the article focuses on the experiences and aspirations which they articulate as being part of ‘a normal life’, and analyses them within broader conceptual understandings of security and ‘normality’. We first examine how normality is equated with an improved economic position in Scotland, and look at the ways in which this engenders feelings of emotional security and well-being. We then explore how more positive experiences around sexuality and gender identity are key to a sense of emotional security – i.e. of feeling accepted as ‘normal’, being visible as an LGBT person but ‘blending in’ rather than standing out because of it. Finally we look at the ways in which the institutional framework in Scotland, in particular the presence of LGBT-affirmative legislation, is seen by participants to have a normalising effect within society, leading to a broader sense of inclusion and equality – found, again, to directly impact upon participants’ own feelings of security and emotional well-being. The article engages with literatures on migration and sexuality and provides an original contribution to both: through its focus upon sexuality, which remains unexplored in debates on ‘normality’ and migration in the UK; and by bringing a migration perspective to the debates in sexuality studies around the normalising effect of the law across Europe. By bringing these two perspectives together, we reveal the inter-relationship between sexuality and other key spheres of our participants’ lives in order to better understand their experiences of migration and settlement.

This scrutiny shows meaningful contributions of the Authors to a new definition of subjectivity in a post-metaphysical age, and their consideration about which possibilities are still open for a non-predetermined history given outside of the presence domain. The future is neither a totalisation of history by its end, nor a simple continuation of the present. It is an eschatological event, where the relationship with the other plays a crucial role for the self-constitution. Such an interlacement is generated by the confession, where the link between past and future is not causally determined, but instead it is self-witness, as in Augustine’s masterpiece, essential reference for both the Authors

Contact dermatitis is a major problem in the healthcare environment and in other sectors. Healthcare professionals may be exposed to a large number of chemical agents, including the accelerators for rubber vulcanization process. The prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis among operators in the sector ranges 13–30%. This paper describes the case of a 46-year-old male cardiac surgeon affected by a severe skin reaction localized on the face in the absence of hand dermatitis, presumably resulting from the use of a surgical patch applied to the face. Patch tests were performed and the result was negative for latex and positive (+++) for thiuram mix. A thiuram-free tape was prescribed and the operator’s dermatitis improved significantly. Thus, it would be very important to pay attention to skin disorders in health workers and thiuram as an occupational allergen. Med Pr. 2019;70(1):121–4

The use of terms in discourse is characterized by the presence of definitions aimed at explaining and clarifying their meaning in a given field, both for specialists and for non-specialists. This defining activity associates with terminological units, thus considered in their textual dimension, over time since their appearance in the language as neologisms. Although the question of definitions can be explored from different angles for the general language and for specialized language, in this paper we are interested in the automatic identification and analysis of definitions in a diachronic corpus. We intend to reflect on the data offered by these definitions with the objective of offering a terminographic description focused on the diachronic aspect of terms. After automatic identification, we will observe the definitions in two phases of terms: the moment of their appearance in the French language and the moment of their dissemination and lexicalization. Our attention is focused on the definitions characterizing the French terms in the commercial field in a diachronic perspective, within the DIACOM corpus.

The main topic of the article is the analysis of the parody technique in the Mass Doctor bonus by Giovanni Francesco Anerio. The text consists of two parts: a historical presentation of the artist’s biography and an analytical study. The first part presents the composer’s life and musical achievements as well as the state of research on the history of the genre, while the second part describes the rules of the parody technique, in the light of treatises of the era, in comparison with equally entitled Palestrina’s motet. The parody technique allows Anerio to quote both entire polyphonic structures and single melodic lines. However, despite the strong convergence essential for the procedure of parody, the composer was able to present their own solutions while adhering to the rules of classical counterpoint and the style of his famous Roman predecessor. Thus, the piece is entirely based on Palestrina’s ideas, such as interweaving phrases with the equality of votes, shaping of phrases or use of intervals with Anerio’s own texture very alike. Therefore, the Mass, based on the perception of parody in the late Renaissance era, should be assessed as a perfect musical work.
