Celem artykułu jest pokazanie różnych podglądów na temat współczesnych użytkowników nowych technologii nazywanych digital nativ. Niektórzy autorzy określają dzisiejszych uczących się cyfrowymi ekspertami z racji permanentnego obcowania w sieci. Natomiast inni zauważają, iż przebywanie w wirtualnym świecie nie pretenduje do miana zaawansowanego użytkownika no-wych technologii. Temu przekonaniu towarzyszą wieloletnie spostrzeżenia autorki oraz wypowiedzi samych studentów, którzy często czują się osamotnieni w zetknięciu z akademicką rzeczywisto-ścią. Artykuł jest próbą pokazania, iż mimo ciągłych zmian, rozwoju technologii, zalewu informa-cji wciąż są pożądane relacje mistrz–uczeń.
The purpose of the article is to demonstrate various views on the contemporary users of new technologies, called Digital Natives. Today’s learners are called digital experts by some authors, because of their continuous existence on the Internet. In turn, others notice that existence in the virtual world does not elevate to the rank of an advanced user of new technologies. This belief is accompanied by long-standing observations made by the authors, as well as statements provided by the students them selves, who often feel lonely in their contact with the academic reality. The article is an attempt to show that despite constant changes, development of technology, inflow of information, the master-pupil relationship is still desired.

Celem artykułu jest porównanie narracji na temat zadowolenia u osób z różnych pokoleń, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem dwóch pokoleń digital natives, tj. digital natives 1.0 oraz digital natives 2.0. Pokoleniem digital natives określa się osoby urodzone i wychowane w erze cyfrowej, dla których nowoczesne technologie są nieodłącznym elementem życia. Odmienne warunki, w jakich dorastali przedstawiciele różnych pokoleń, warunkują odmienność ich funkcjonowania (w tym emocjonalnego) oraz różnice w zakresie treści i struktury konstruowanych przez nich reprezentacji emocji. Przeanalizowano wypowiedzi na temat zadowolenia 148 osób z różnych pokoleń. Na podstawie jakościowej i ilościowej analizy opisano specyfię treści narracji o zadowoleniu dwóch pokoleń digital natives. Wykazano, że narracje o zadowoleniu wśród digital natives zawierają liczne informacje na temat przedmiotów oraz małą liczbę odniesień do rodziny. Narracje o zadowoleniu przedstawicieli digital natives 1.0 są ubogie w informacje na temat zwierząt. Reprezentacja zadowolenia u osób z pokolenia digital natives 2.0 jest natomiast bogata w informacje dotyczące symptomów i synonimów oraz wartości materialnych i niematerialnych.
The purpose of the article is to compare the narratives about contentment (zadowolenie) in individuals from two different generations of digital natives, i.e. digital natives 1.0 and digital natives 2.0. The term “digital native” refers to an individual born and raised in the digital age, with modern technologies constituting an integral part of life. Different environments, in which people of various generations grew up, determine differences, for instance, in their emotional functioning, and in the contents and structure of emotion representations developed by them. The study took into account narratives related to contentment, produced by 148 individuals representing various generations. The specificity of the representation of contentment, identified in the two generations of digital natives, was described based on the qualitative and quantitative analyses. It was shown that the narratives about contentment allows identify in digital natives a lot of information on objects, and few references to family. The narrations about contentment observed in the participants from Generation digital natives 1.0 contains little information on animals. On the other hand, representation of contentment in individuals from Generation digital natives 2.0 contains a lot of information on symptoms and synonyms, tangible values and intangible values.

Regardless of how the contemporary young generation is described, there is no doubt that their permanent connection to the Internet and an incredible expertise in using information and communication technologies are one of the features that define those who grow up at the present time. Such strong involvement in digital media entails a number of health and development consequences for children and teenagers. In order to minimize the potential risks and negative effects of new media, it is essential to take action aimed at increasing awareness in terms of positive and negative aspects of using digital devices as well as at gaining abilities to use them in a way that is the most optimal and favourable for health. Currently, this issue constitutes a great challenge for teachers, parents, and carers for whom implementing health-seeking attitudes and behaviours of the young generation may be, taking into consideration the attractiveness of electronic media and virtual world, an enormously difficult task.

Mark Prensky created a specific division of society into digital immigrants and digital natives. The aim of this article is to reflect on the challenge posed to contemporary catechesis by generations of digital natives. Among the various conclusions should be distinguished: concern for the development of faith of young people from the generation of digital natives, remember to build the right human relationship, learn to communicate with God, care should be taken for a simple language of catechesis that will show a loving Christ, care about the right image of the human person, supported by testimony, care about kind and authentic dialogue with man and with God. Responsible for the religious education of young people are mainly adults, implicitly: parents, catechists, pastors.

The time perspective has been the subject of various studies aimed at understanding human behavior.Our goal was to extend the growing literature in this field by studying the role of time perspectives in shaping online behavior among digital natives. 569 digital natives at the tertiary education level completed self-report forms assessing two major processes: time perspectives and online behavior. Adverse time-perspective biases were found to be related to rude, harsh, and distrustful online behavior. Present-oriented people displayed a high amount of online activity, while future-oriented ones showed a more functional approach to Internet use. Pastpositive and past-negative orientations occurred concomitantly with different levels of affability online. We discuss the findings and their limitations, along with suggestions for future research in this field. As it is possible to modify time perspectives, this study may contribute to the development of methods aimed at preventing undesirable online behavior and improving individuals’ well-being.

Kompetencje cyfrowe, obejmujące odpowiedzialne i krytyczne wykorzystanie technologii informacyjnych i komunikacyjnych w różnych obszarach naszego życia, stanowią jedne z kluczowych kompetencji XXI wieku. Wobec postępującej rewolucji cyfrowej rośnie również ich znaczenie w rozmaitych dziedzinach kształcenia. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie roli kompetencji cyfrowych w edukacji językowej z perspektywy pokolenia aktywnych użytkowników nowoczesnych technologii. Opierając się na teoretycznych aspektach dyskutowanych zagadnień, przeprowadzono badania ankietowe, których głównym celem była analiza osobistych opinii uczących się (przedstawicieli społeczności digital natives) na temat roli kompetencji cyfrowych w różnorodnych działaniach procesu glottodydaktycznego. Grupę badawczą stanowili studenci specjalności neofilologicznych cyklu licencjackiego Uniwersytetu Śląskiego. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono zakresowi wykorzystania i ocenie użyteczności kompetencji cyfrowych w procesie nauczania – uczenia się języków obcych oraz definicji i samoocenie własnych e-umiejętności badanych. Analiza ilościowo-jakościowa materiału badawczego potwierdziła istotną, również z punktu widzenia uczących się, rolę e-umiejętności w rozwijaniu zarówno kompetencji komunikacyjnych i językowych, jak i strategii uczenia się. Biorąc pod uwagę wysoką użyteczność kompetencji cyfrowych w działaniach dydaktycznych, ich doskonalenie stanowi niewątpliwie jedno z priorytetowych zadań współczesnej edukacji.
Digital competences, involving the responsible and critical use of information and communication technologies in various areas of our lives, are today one of the key competences of the twenty-first century. In the face of the ongoing digital revolution, their importance in various fields of education is growing as well. The aim of the article is to show the role of digital competences in language education from the perspective of the modern generation – active users of modern technologies. Based on the theoretical aspects of the discussed issues, surveys were conducted the main goal of which was the analysis of personal opinions of learners (representatives of the digital natives community) on the role of digital competences in various activities of the glottodidactic process. The research was conducted among students of neophilological specialties of the bachelor’s programme at the University of Silesia. The scope of use and assessment of the usefulness of digital competences in the process of teaching-learning foreign languages and the definition and self-assessment of own e-skills was of particular interest. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the research material confirmed the important role of e-skills in developing both communication and language competences and learning strategies, also from the perspective of learners. Given the significant usefulness of digital competences in didactic activities, improving them is undoubtedly one of the priority tasks of modern education.

Liczne publikacje opisują funkcjonowanie cyfrowych tubylców w różnych obszarach i ujęciach. Niniejsze opracowanie poświecono scharakteryzowaniu współczesnych studentów studiów technicznych, którzy należą do pokolenia cyfrowych tubylców. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na ich przygotowanie w obszarze szeroko pojętej edukacji ogólnotechnicznej. Przeprowadzono przegląd form ich kształcenia i obserwowanych efektów. Współcześni studenci kształceni byli w zakresie techniki w ramach edukacji formalnej oraz nieformalnej. Zaobserwowano niekorzystne zmiany zarówno w obszarze kształcenia formalnego jak i nieformalnego. Braki te próbuje się wypełnić środkami edukacji medialnej, co prowadzi do powstania pokolenia, o upozorowanej wiedzy technicznej. Przedstawiciele pokolenia cyfrowych tubylców, którzy są studentami kierunków technicznych, można nazwać pokoleniem technicznych imigrantów.
Numerous publications describe the functioning of digital natives in various areas and shots. Hereby study describes current students of technical studies who belong to the generation of digital natives. Special attention was paid to their preparation in the area of general technology education. The forms of student education and the observed effects were reviewed. Contemporary students have been educated in the field of technology within formal and informal education, including the special role played by the media. Unfavourable changes were observed in both formal and informal education. These shortcomings are being filled with media education, which leads to the emergence of a generation with sham technology knowledge. It should be noted that the deficiencies in general technical education should be addressed by future engineers, either during the course of their studies with support of academic teachers or on their own. However, in order to do so, it is necessary to be aware of these deficiencies and strive for improving them. The representatives of the digital natives, who are students of technical majors, can be described as a generation of technical immigrants.

Within the rapid changes in communication techniques, culture, pedagogy, and developments in knowledge, it is vital that educators are familiar with new educational changes, mainly those changes which are connected to technology. Change can be accompanied by fear, and thus some teachers might resist changing (Fullan, 2006). In the digital age, some teachers might be reluctant to change because they feel they are immigrants in the digital world (Prensky, 2001). In developing countries, such as Algeria and Libya, teachers might feel more frustrated because of the digital gap in their countries and because of the digital gap with the students (Warschauer, 2003). This conceptual paper aims at exploring the main factors that inhibit teachers from change. This paper focuses on teachers from k- to college teachers in general. The rationale behind dealing with teachers in general, and not teachers of a specific discipline is to explore the way teachers in low technology areas could see their development from a digital perspective. It is also assumed that digital education is needed in all fields of education as there are already policies about the integration of technology in education (Hamdy, 2007). In the context of this paper, change is defined as switch from Mindset 1 to Mindset 2. Educators with Mindset 1 consider the digital age as an extension of the industrial world; whereas educators with Mindset 2 believe the digital age is a post-industrial era, and the changes that are happening should be approached as new.

In the study we present results of two research projects conducted simultaneously at the Faculty of Social Sciences, UWM in Olsztyn referring to the place digital technologies have in the learning processes in the opinions of Early Education students. The results show that the group of surveyed students might be situated on the borderline of digital natives and digital immigrants’ worlds. The conducted survey demonstrated limited trust to digital sources of knowledge amongst students and discrepancy between their personal experiences with using new technology, on a daily basis, and traditional ways of learning proposed by the University. The analysis of the case study indicated that for preparing future teachers to work with children (digital natives), it is important to organize a learning environment in which both worlds – digital and analogue – are connected.

Współcześnie dostęp do informacji jest właściwie nieograniczony, jednak problemem staje się „smog informacyjny”. Sytuacja taka powoduje, że współczesny uczeń, czy student znaczną część swojego czasu poświęca na przeskakiwanie z informacji na informacje, gromadząc je z różnym skutkiem i często nie analizując. Rozwiązania tego problemu można poszukiwać w nowych metodach nauczania wykorzystujących nowe technologie. Wśród metod takich na uwagę zasługuje metoda WebQuest. W pracy opisano niniejszą metodę wraz z jej założeniami oraz wytycznymi do przygotowania i prowadzenia w kształceniu technicznym.
Nowadays access to information is virtually unlimited, but the problem becomes "information smog". This implies that a contemporary pupil, or student significant part of his time spends on the jumping from information to information, gathering them with different results, and often without analyzing. In many cases, the learner will never move from information level on knowledge level, completely not noticing the difference between these issues and without seeing the problem. In addition, there is a problem that digital natives are taught by digital immigrants which don’t understand the learners’ problems. Solutions of this problem can be sought in new teaching methods using new technologies. Among such methods, WebQuest is worth noting method. The paper describes this method along with its assumptions and guidelines for preparing and carrying out at technical education.
