In linguistic papers on language change it is often stated that the Russian language since the 1990s has adapted to the new political, economical and social conditions by reacting in varied ways to the changes of the so-called extralinguistic environment. Linguists, however, usually concentrate on the description of phonetical/phonological, morphological, lexical or syntactic changes without paying attention to changes of text types. In the present article, by the example of a study of scientific texts I investigate the process of the democratization of written academic speech from the 1950s up to now. For this purpose, I concentrate on different linguistic means of expressing personalization. As a basis for my diachronic empirical investigation serves a homogeneous corpus of written texts of the type ‘academic article’ in well-known linguistic journals.

This paper attempts to bridge the gap between contemporary scholars of democratization and researchers studying the political history of Ancient Greece. Although these two subfields already share important commonalities, they have remained indifferent to each other’s work. I argue that the dēmos can serve as yet another area of convergence between them. The increased dialogue between these two research traditions should enrich scholarly debates in both subfields and it also offers an opportunity to address their methodological drawbacks. Specifically, contemporary democratization research tends to undervalue the significance of ordinary people in the democratization process. Conversely, scholars of the ancient Greek world have a tendency to be enigmatic about their use of research methods, which potentially perpetuates the perception that political theorists engage in anachronistic research. Thus, bridging these two camps offers a real opportunity to enrich them individually, as well as the democratization paradigm that underpins both of them.

Federico Donelli, Alessia Chiriatti, Manuel Férez), Mexico: Universidad Anahuac Mexico, 2016, pp. 299-310.The text presents the history of attempts at democratization of the political system in Turkey, where despite the nominal presence of democratic institutions, changes traditionally have come from the top. Following a brief presentation of the unsuccessful civil movements from the 1970s onwards, it focuses on the 2010s transition in approaches to building democratic culture, and in particular on the Gezi Park resistance, where a relatively minor local issue sparked a country-wide citizens’ protest against the conservative democracy of the ruling AK Party. The event is shown as an entirely new type of protest, a spontaneous civil movement with horizontal structure, inspired by the Occupy movements, and an expression of the new generation’s approach to politics. It also gave rise to a movement which contributed to rethinking the Turkish democratization process by breaking with the established thinking with a bottom-to-top approach.

In our age “without the emperor”, fascination with empires and with the emperor mystique continues. Take for witness Tolkien and his Return of the King, the third sequel of The Lord of the Rings, or the television serial Game of Thrones. In the background, of course, is the lingering memory of the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, “a revolution which is still felt by all nations of the world”, to quote Edward Gibbon. It comes as a surprise that in this dramatic moment of its history, in times marked by political, economic and spiritual crisis that shook the very foundations of the Empire during the 3rd century, historians and art historians have recognized the revival of plebeian culture (arte plebea, kleinbürgerliche Kultur). It was the Italian historian Santo Mazzarino, talking at the XI International Congress of the Historical Sciences in Stockholm in 1960, who introduced a new paradigm: the “democratization of culture”. In the light of the historical process in the late Roman Empire, when growing autocracy, bureaucracy, militarization and social tensions leave no doubt as to the real political character of the government, the new paradigm opened up fresh approaches to the phenomenon of decadence and decline of the Roman world. As such, it stands against traditional scenario of the “triumph of barbarism and Christianity”, which was made responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire and the eclipse of the classical civilization of ancient Greece and Rome. It is not by accident that the new paradigm appeared around the middle of the 20th century, at the time when European society itself underwent a kind of “democratization of culture”, faced with the phenomenon of mass culture and the need to find new ways of evaluating popular art. Today, more than anything else, the notion of “democratization of culture” in late Roman Empire forces us to acknowledge a disturbing correspondence between autocratic and populist forms of government. It may come as a shock to learn that the very emperors who went down in Roman history as villains and culprits (such as Caligula, Nero or Commodus), were sometimes considered the most “democratic” among Roman rulers. Do we need to feel certain unease at this historical parallel?

Artykuł opisuje zjawisko dogłębnej demokratyzacji – procesu, w wyniku którego demokracja przestaje być traktowana jako metoda umożliwiająca realizację określonych wartości, ale jako wartość sama w sobie. Drugim aspektem tego procesu jest rozpowszechnianie się demokratycznych procedur i wartości oraz przyjmowanie ich także w instytucjach tradycyjnie niedemokratycznych, takich jak szkoła, rodzina czy Kościół, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem szkoły i rodziny. Następnie analizowane są najważniejsze wychowawcze skutki tego procesu, takie jak np. spowodowane demokratyzacją lepsze poszanowanie podmiotowości wychowanka, ale także osłabianie hierarchii i autorytetów. Ogólnie rzecz ujmując, zarówno zalety, jak i słabości demokracji w wyniku demokratyzacji zostają przeniesione do instytucji wychowawczych, ale niektóre problemy w wychowaniu okazują się poważniejsze niż w organizacji państwa, gdyż wychowankowie są bardziej niedojrzali niż obywatele.
The article describes the process of profound democratization, resulting in changing the notion of democracy which is no longer understood as a means of achieving certain values, but rather as a value in itself. Moreover, democratic values and procedures are becoming increasingly popular and as such, accepted by traditionally non-democratic institutions such as school, family and Church. The process is particularly noticeable in school and family. The article also analyses the most important implications (both positive and negative) of this phenomenon in education. For example, respecting pupils' personal autonomy is connected with weakening of hierarchy and authority. In general, problems created by democracy (e.g. various forms of populism) are more acute in upbringing and education than on the state level, because pupils are not as mature as adult citizens.

Demokracja, demokratyczny, demokratyzm, demokratyzacja to pojęcia syndromatyczne. Zarówno same w sobie, gdy wskazujemy kryteria definicyjne, jak i w związkach pojęć – takich jak np. demokracja liberalna czy demokratyczne państwo prawa. Syndromatyczność tych pojęć polega na tym, że ich treść nie jest jednowymiarowa (w redukcji do sposobu wyłaniania i legitymizacji władzy, sposobu rządzenia, relacji między rządzącymi a rządzonymi), lecz określona jest przez splot charakterystyk ideologicznych, etycznych, socjoekonomicznych i prawnych. Demokracja „przymiotnikowa” to inna jakość niż „czysta” demokracja rozumiana dosłownie, lecz i blankietowo. Znajduje to wyraz w zróżnicowanych doktrynalnie modelach demokracji.
Democracy, democratic, democratism, democratization are syndromic terms. Both in themselves, as Simple terms, when we indicate the definition criteria, and in complex terms – such as, for example, liberal democracy or the democratic state of law. The syndromic nature of these concepts lies in the fact that their content is not one-dimensional (reduced to the method of the emergence and legitimation of power, the method of governing, the relationship between the ruling and the ruled), but is determined by a combination of ideological, ethical, socioeconomic and legal characteristics. “Adjectival” democracy is a different quality than “pure” democracy understood literally, but also in blank form. This is reflected in the doctrinally diverse models of democracy.

Autorzy położyli nacisk na teoretyczne uzasadnienie demokratyzacji życia szkolnego.
The article is an attempt on systematisation of the notions of democracy and democratisation. The authors present different approaches to democracy and describe the most important models of democracy with special regard to the procedural, material and deliberative understanding of democracy. The text emphasizes the ambiguity and multidimensionality of thinking about democracy. Furthermore, the article presents and explains the democratization process of various spheres of social life. The authors stressed the theoretical justification of the democratization of school life.

The authors of this article reiterate the question of the best holistic approach for democratising relationships in a learning community developing students’ social-emotional competence on the one hand, and developing students’ academic competence on the other. Democratization of education and Social and emotional learning are well-researched issues. They have been elements present in school curricula for several decades, yet it remains difficult to make them a reality. Rogers was focused on finding the components of interaction that facilitate authentic and meaningful interpersonal relationships. As a result of his research, he singled out the ‘cornerstones’ of the Person-Centered/Pupil-Centered Approach (PCA): inter alia non-directivity, classroom climate setting, congruence, empathy, and unconditional positive regard, among others. This psychologist also pointed out how to work with a group and in a group so that an environment for meaningful learning, well-being, and democratic relationships is created.

The article considers the role of democratic standards of governance, which imply the involvement of wide layers of the population in making administrative decisions to ensure regional and local development. The real transition to the implementation of democratization of power relations in Ukraine began with the decentralization reform. The main function of local governments amid decentralization processes is to improve the territorial socio-economic condition, which is the expanded economic recovery of the territory, using the real benefits of democratization and decentralized governance. This article analyzes the stages of decentralization and illustrates the main legislative and regulatory guarantees of this process. The determination of financial resources available to local governments plays a special role in the economic development of territorial communities. The article also scrutinizes changes in local budget revenues of Ukraine over the past six years. The formation of the participatory budget as a component of government democratization as well as the development of public confidence in government is typified. In conclusion, the importance of continuing the decentralization reform and maintaining the society’s progress towards democratization is determined.

The aim of this article is to analyse the impact of dual executive with the president elected by popular vote on the democratic transformation of post-communist countries of Europe and Eurasia. For this purpose following hypothesis was investigated: the system of government based on dual executive is a threat to democratization. Accepting that this process consists of three parallel transitions (political, economic and social), the author examined the impact of dual executive on the results of post-communist countries of Europe and Eurasia in two indexes: Revised Polity Score and Economic Freedom of the World. Thanks to this study some conclusions could be drawn pertaining to the impact of the system based on dual executive on the effects of the democratization of selected countries in political and economic areas. This allowed following question to be an-swered: is it a fact that a system of government based on dual executive with a president elected by popular vote is a threat to democratization?

The subject of participation has been gathering increasing interest from the various social disciplines: from politology to psychology, from urban sociology to evaluation, this concept carries a particular fascination and discussing participatory research has now become an absolute must. However, an adequate reflection on methodologies for analyzing research practices and evaluating hypotheses and effects when setting up actual research relationships has not followed on the tail of this new tendency. This paper arises from that need and aims, through discussion of the main debates that have interested science and sociology, to reevaluate a critical approach towards the analysis of the social relationships that are created during a research investigation. This study starts out as a reflection aimed at analyzing the impact that participation, in all its various forms, can have on the way research is carried out. The originality of this article lies in the proposal of a form of participation, and from this, the expression of a hope for the future of social sciences: that we can aspire towards a dialogical model and towards a new cooperative and emancipatory relationship with the public.
