Opis:
This paper describes LabVIEW based integrated measurement system to determine key parameters of DC-DC converters working in low-voltage photovoltaic (PV) systems. DC-DC converter should demonstrate high efficiency of energy conversion as well as sufficient voltage gain to yield as much energy from PV panel as it is possible. Efficiency and voltage gain can be measured across the number of parameters such as input voltage, output load, frequency and duty cycle of converter driving signals. The LabVIEW application works with both Hioki 8855 data recorder which carries out power measurements and a microcontroller Digital Driver who drives a converter tested. Measurement system allows to automate time consuming measurements as well as experimentally verify DC-DC converter design assumptions. The laboratory test results of selected DC-DC converter prototype as well as sources of error has been discussed in this paper.

Opis:
To yield energy from the low-voltage power source such as a photovoltaic panel or a fuel cell it is necessary to connect it with step-up DC/DC converter. Among many step-up topologies there are two basic types of converters: ones with and ones without galvanic isolation. Although both types provide voltage gain thanks to the turns ratio of transformer or coupled inductor, electrical isolation in some applications is essential. This paper presents an isolated DC/DC flyback converter using an active clamp and dual series resonance circuits. The converter operates as an isolated voltage amplifier with a voltage gain B dependent on duty cycle D and input voltage Vin. Through the use of transistors with low drain to source resistance RDS(on) conduction losses of main transistor switch can be reduced. The reverse recovery current of output rectifier can be omitted thanks to resonant tank consisted of transformer leakage inductance and voltage doubler capacitors. Active clamp circuit allows the energy transfer to the load in the two stages as in the forward converter. The 2-kW flyback converter simulation model was developed. Input voltage Vin varied from 12V to 48V and output voltage above 330V needed for 1-phase DC to AC conversion was achieved. Maximum converter efficiency was 92.3%.

Opis:
The energy storage system (ESS) is an important way to improve the power quality of renewable energy sources (such as solar energy and wind energy). A bi-directional DC/DC converter is an essential part of the ESS to achieve bi-directional energy transfer. According to the characteristics of the low-voltage gain and high-voltage stress of switches in the existing bi-directional DC/DC converter, this study proposes a novel two-phase interleaved parallel bi-directional DC/DC converter. The converter can effectively combine the advantages of a Z-source network and interleaved parallel structure. The working principle, the boost mode and buck mode of the converter are analyzed in detail. In addition, the voltage conversion ratios under the two modes are deduced. The control strategy of the two-phase interleaved parallel bi-directional DC/DC converter is introduced in detail. Furthermore, the main working waveforms of the system under each working mode are verified by building a simulation experiment model using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that the system has advantages of high-voltage gain, low-voltage stress of switches and automatic current sharing between inductors.

Opis:
Energy efficiency is one of most critical parameters in photovoltaic (PV) systems. Overall PV system efficiency improvement may be achieved by such means as topological changes, new generations of transistor switches and/or planar magnetic components use. But on the other hand whole system must follow the wheather changes such as solar energy delivery variation due to cloud shading as well as temperature fluctuations. In such conditions a driver should dynamically track maximum power point (MPPT) of a PV array. For the purposes of better understanding PV array performance the paper shows MatLab simulation of 3.2 kWp PV array. The driver discussed works with a range of different step up DC-DC converter topologies such as bridge based topologies as well as interleaved ones. The ASCII protocol which can be implemented in PC application is responsible for working parameters settings carrying and output data logging as well as current software status check. The paper presents practical implementation of the driver as a part of larger PV system where the interleaved DC-DC converter works with 3.2 kWp PV array of ten PV modules connected in parallel. Described MPPT algorithm takes advantage of modified Perturb and Observe (P&O) method. Presented are microcontroller hardware resources utilization, functional software architecture and developped MPPT algorithm which performance is shown on the plot.

The research for novel power conversion topologies and the development of cutting-edge power component technologies are driven by the demand for renewable and much more efficient electricity generation, delivery, and conversion. Simulation and Analysis High Voltage Gain DC-DC Converter with Double Voltage Booster Switched Inductor for PV Applications are analyzed in this paper. Multilevel boost converter topologies recently reintroduced, are gaining popularity as a solution for industrial and transportation power systems because they enable the use of innovative, efficient, but relatively low voltage low-voltage devices at greater voltage and power levels. there is only one power switch on the converter that is planned here, three diodes, two capacitors, and two inductors to achieve ultra-high gain with better efficiency. High voltage gain, minimal switch stress, and the ability to lessen input-current ripple and capacitor voltage ripple are all benefits of the topology. When it switches complementary, the capacitors' ripple is reduced, which lowers the size requirement for the capacitors. A 12V, 500 watts prototype was analyzed, simulated and designed. at a duty cycle of 0.75 it is achieved high DC-DC gain i.e 19 and efficiency 93%. The practicality of the converter will be demonstrated by the close agreement between the analysis and simulation findings.

Opis:
Solar energy has become one of the most potential alternative energies in the world. To convert solar energy into electricity, a photovoltaic (PV) system can be utilized. However, the fluctuation of sunlight intensity throughout the day greatly affects the generated energy in the PV system. A battery may be beneficial to store the generated energy for later use. A DC–DC converter is commonly exploited to produce a constant output voltage during the battery charging process. A Zeta converter is a DC–DC converter which can be used to produce output values above or below the input voltage without changing the polarity. To deal with the inherent non-linearity and time-varying properties of the converter, in this paper the sliding mode control (SMC) is first analyzed and exploited before being integrated with a proportional-integral (PI) control to regulate the output voltage of the PV system. Disturbances are given in the form of changes in input voltage, reference voltage, and load. Voltage deviation and recovery time to reach a steady-state condition of the output voltage after disturbances are investigated and compared to the results using a proportional-integral-differential (PID) controller. The results show that the proposed control design performs faster than the compared PID control method.

In this paper a computer aided design of snubber circuit for DC\DC converter is presented. Due to the presence of parasitic LC circuit in the power stage (inductance and capacitance), it is necessary to use an additional snubber circuit for voltage overshoot and oscillations reduction. A simulation model of the converter with parasitic circuit was designed. Three types of snubber circuits (C, RC, RCD) were investigated in simulation tests. Simulation model of the proposed system has been investigated in Matlab/Simulink/PLECS environment. Input signal parameters like voltage overshoot, rise time, fall time were compared for considered snubber circuits. Experimental tests were carried out for the best simulation result. It confirm the proper choice of snubber circuit.

In the recent times, lot of research work carried out in the field of fuel cells explicitly divulges that it has the potential to be an ultimate power source in upcoming years. The fuel cell has more storing capacity, which enables to use in heavy power applications. In these applications, power conditioning is more vital to regulate the output voltage. Hence, we need a dc-dc converter to provide a constant regulated output voltage for such high-power system. Currently, many new converters were designed and implemented as per the requirement. This paper has made comparative study on several topologies of the quadratic high gain dc-dc converter and the applications where these topologies can be used when the fuel cell is given as a source. Also, we have compared various parameters of all the converters considered and generated the results with steady-state and dynamic study. In this article, we briefed the types of analysis carried on the dc-dc converter to study its performance. Moreover, various application of fuel cell is presented and discussed. This paper will be a handbook to the researchers who start to work on high gain dc-dc converter topologies with quadratic boost converter as a base. This article will also guide the engineers to concentrate on the fuel cell components where it needs to be explored for optimizing its operation.

Opis:
The measurement of frequency characteristics, like magnitude and phase, related to a specific transfer function of DC–DC converters, can be a difficult task - especially when the measured signal approaches the boundary of a small-signal model validity (i.e. 1/3 of the switching frequency fS ). It is hard to find a paper where authors mention the measurement techniques they use to draw frequency characteristics. Meanwhile the presence of noise in the output signal does not enable to directly measure the gain and the phase shift between the input and output signals. In such situations additional analysis is required in order to achieve a reliable result. This paper contains a description of a few methods that can be used to analyse measured signals in order to determine the gain and the phase shift of a specific transfer function. They enable to verify mathematical models in a wide range of frequencies (up to 1/3 fS ). The methods use signals measured in the time domain and can be implemented in mathematical software such as Matlab or Scilab.
