Opis:
Soil and groundwater contamination by petroleum hydrocarbons and organic solvents has become a worldwide problem, which primarily faces high-technology countries. Soil vapor extraction (SVE) of volatile and some semivolatile compounds is rapidly being recognized as a technically and economically sound alternative to the available methods of cleaning chemically polluted soils. SVE entails the induction of an advective air phase through the contaminated vadose zone of the soil. In the unsaturated zone, the air flow can be established with combinations of withdrawal (extraction) and injection (if required) wells. Air laden with the contaminant vapors moves along the induced flow paths toward the withdrawing system, where it is subject to after-treatment. If the process is carried out for a sufficiently long time, it will be possible to remove all of the contaminants from the soil. The use of the SVE method provides continuous air flow through the vadose zone, which is a requisite for an efficient cleaning operation. A reliable assessment of the pressure distributions in the vicinity of the extraction wells, and a thorough analysis of the air flow conditions are of great importance to the design of an optimal SVE system, as well as to the determination of the major operating parameters. The present paper describes a three dimensional mathematical model which predicts the steady-state air flow through the unsaturated zone of the soil. The paper also includes the results of a computer simulation of air flow in soils, using the AIR3D software developed by loss and Baehr. With this software it was possible to examine how the properties of the soil (porosity, permeability and anisotropy) and the operating parameters of the SVE system (number and arrangement of the wells, depth and length of the filters, vacuum head in the wells) affect the pressure distribution, the mass and volumetric air flow rate, as well as the components of the air velocity vector in the soil.

Opis:
Defending against DoS (denial of service) attacks has become a great challenge, especially for institutions that provide access to their services in the public network. State-of-the-art identity concealing tools and vast number of computers connected to the network require ensuring appropriate means for entities at risk to enable defence from the particular type of threats. This article presents a concept of user authentication in IP communication. The concept consists in providing the receiver with the possibility to determine sender՚s identity at the Internet layer level. This provides both the capability of defence against DoS attacks and possibility of utilizing the presented model over existing Internet network, which is directly responsible for transmission. The authors hope that the concept is a significant step in the perception of public network data transmission.

Opis:
Due to favorable mechanical, tribological and biomedical properties the carbon coatings are of interest of many branches of the industry [1]. Growing interest in Ag doped DLC coatings is observed within the space of the last several years. Both, well known antibacterial properties [2] of silver as well as a good biocompatibility [3] of carbon coatings constitute the outstanding solution for a variety of applications, especially for medical implants. The aim of this study was the evaluation of influence of silver onto the mechanical and tribological properties of nanocomposite DLC coatings. Carbon coatings were produced using a hybrid RFPACVD/MS method and silver ions were incorporated into carbon matrix. The processes consist of followed stages: synthesis of nanocomposite carbon (CVD) doped titanium coatings (PVD)[4] and next stage carbon (CVD) and silver deposition (PVD)or Ag ion implantation into carbon coating. Carbon layers synthesis was performed with use of the classic RF PACVD process in methane atmosphere whereas as the titanium ions source the pulsed magnetron sputtering (MS) process was applied. Second stage was performed in the same reaction chamber but the PVD process was carried out using the silver cathode. The ion implantation process was carried out with the use of silver ions with energy of 15 keV. In order to determine the influence of silver ion implantation process onto overall physiochemical properties of carbon coatings four ion doses of 2,4,7 and 10×1016Ag+/cm2 were applied. Due to application of the gradient of chemical composition of Ti–C it is possible to manufacture thick and well adherent carbon layers with a very good mechanical, tribological parameters and corrosion resistive. Application of silver as a doping material allowed modification of the mechanical and biological properties of manufactured layers depending on the silver amount (C:Ag ratio).
