The Julio Estrada’s output is still the unexplored area, what creates the opportunity to study the phenomenon called discontinuum-continuum. During the last 36 years of the creative activity, Estrada has developed several aspects of the macro timbre that integrate several compounds of a composition. In his research, Estrada confronts two different situations in the compositional process: continuous transformation of the sound and chronographical method, using strictly defined re¬cording process in order to receive three-dimensional movements of the sound in the topological order. As a result of existing these two situations, a musical work is impossible to be defined by one technique or musical style. Examination of the theory of composition called discontinuum-continuum allows one to understand a new methodology of musical creation that involves scientific research of the physical phe¬nomenon of sound and introspection of the imagination of the sound.

In this paper a formal system called collection of dynamical systems with dimensional reduction is considered. This is a multiscale method of mathematical description which allows to consider molecular dynamics and continuum mechanics within one theoretical framework. Transition between molecular dynamics and continuum mechanics is realized by means of the dimensional reduction procedure. In order to realize such a procedure the formulation of continuum mechanics is modified. This modification consists in incorporation scale of averaging for properties of processes considered during modelling into this formulation. As a result we introduce finite-dimensional fields on continuum only. All fundamental terms of continuum mechanics are now joined with an elementary dynamical system. In such a case continuum mechanics can be obtained by means of the dimensional reduction procedure applied to the elementary dynamical system. A numerical example of vibrating chain of material points is realized in order to show how in practice the dimensional reduction can be carried out. In this example decomposition of processes into slowly and quickly varying parts is accomplished. To this end a finite element representation of averaged fields is applied. Solutions of equations of the elementary dynamical system and the dimensionally reduced dynamical system are compared.

In this piece I argue for posthumanism-based deliberation and education toward just global ecologies. I propose posthumanism’s nonanthropocentric ethical approach and conceptual framework enables a processual multiperspectival account of rich, variegated bionetworks and their organic and inorganic materials’ interrelationships and interdependencies. Among reciprocal studies and methodologies, I consider Mitchell’s (2004) integrative pluralism in tandem with a developmental systems paradigm of co-emergence to acknowldge the dynamic epistemological continuum of complex ecologies. In terms of specific embedded learning experiences, I briefly discuss Lind’s Konstanz Method of Dilemma Discussion (KMDD)® as one specific approach in which to cultivate democratic capacities whilst embracing the destabilizing-stabilizing tendencies of posthumanistic praxis for inclusive flourishing.

A homeomorphism f:X → X of a compactum X with metric d is expansive if there is c > 0 such that if x,y ∈ X and x ≠ y, then there is an integer n ∈ ℤ such that $d(f^n(x),f^n(y)) > c$. A homeomorphism f: X → X is continuum-wise expansive if there is c > 0 such that if A is a nondegenerate subcontinuum of X, then there is an integer n ∈ ℤ such that $diami f^n(A) > c$. Clearly, every expansive homeomorphism is continuum-wise expansive, but the converse assertion is not true. In [6], we defined the notion of chaotic continua of homeomorphisms and proved the existence of chaotic continua of continuum-wise expansive homeomorphisms. Also, we studied indecomposability of chaotic continua. In this paper, we investigate further more properties of indecomposability of chaotic continua and their composants. In particular, we prove that if f:X → X is a continuum-wise expansive homeomorphism of a plane compactum $X ⊂ ℝ^2$ with dim X > 0, then there exists a σ-chaotic continuum Z (σ = s or u) of f such that Z is an indecomposable subcontinuum of X and for each z ∈ Z the composant c(z) of Z containing z coincides with the continuum-wise σ-stable set $V^σ(z;Z)$.

Opis:
The paper presents specifics and assumptions included in games theory. Author made first attempt to create stock exchange model based on games theory, specific games with continuum of players. The article is the result of efforts to create an adequate mathematic model in order to investigate the specificity of the decision-making behavior of so-called individual stock market investors.
W artykule przedstawiono możliwość wykorzystania teorii gier z continuum graczy w modelowaniu zachowań graczy na giełdzie. Dokonano pierwszej próby opracowania modelu giełdy w oparciu o teorie gier z continuum graczy. Artykuł jest wynikiem prac nad opracowaniem matematycznego modelu pozwalającego badać specyfikę zachowań decyzyjnych tzw. giełdowych inwestorów masowych.

Opis:
A mathematical programming method to optimize the distribution field of a truss-like material is presented. The densities and angles of members are optimized in two separate procedures in each iteration. An explicit sub-problem in a variable separation form is established at every iteration procedure. At each sub-problem, the stress constraint function is expanded into a trigonometric series of the member angles. According to the extreme condition, the optimal orientations of members are determined. The member densities are optimized using the method of moving asymptotes (MMA). Two examples demonstrate that the optimal truss-like structures are very close to analytic solutions.

There are so many possibilities to the metric continuum from the Geometry to the Mathematical Analysis, with by the way the historical formulation from Pythagoras to Cantor or Dedekind to make up a new continuum’s theory. On this article I refer the possibilities to carry out where is a philosophical foundation to continuum that is a metric property of number, and the geometric space. Meanwhile, finally I propose to determine the philosophical foundations, gnoseological, and ontological to the continuum.

In this paper the essence of models of material continuum is examined and the construction of those models is presented on the example of Mechanics of Deformable Bodies. The definition of such models is formulated and the reasons for their effectiveness are discussed. The main directions of the developement of such models are indicated. The definitions of a material body, material fields and dynamic processes are formulated. Equivalent processes are considered as those which are representations of the same physical process relative to a different frame work of references. The motion of a material continuum is described. It is regarded as a one-parameter family of transformations of an abstract body into the euclidean space E. The evolutional equations of a material continuum are introduced as a local form of the principal conservation laws. General properties of constitutive equations are discussed. They result from the objectivity and stress localization assumptions. After introducing the concept of material isomorphism and isotropy group, classification of materials is carried ont.

This paper contains a game-theoretic model describing the behaviour of investors at a stock exchange. The model presented is developed to reflect the actual market microstructure. The players constitute a non-uniform continuum, differing, among others, by the planning horizon, the external flow of money which can be invested, formation of expectations about future prices, which, briefly, divides the investors into five substantially different groups. Prices are determined by orders and the equilibrating mechanism of the stock exchange. The mechanism presented is the actual single-price auction system used, in particular, at Warsaw Stock Exchange. One of the main issues are self-verifying beliefs. Results of numerical simulations of stock exchange based on the model are also included.

Opis:
The present work deals with continuum mechanical considerations for deformable and rigid solids as well as for fluids. A common finite element framework is used to approximate all systems under considerations. In particular, we present a standard displacement based formulation for the deformable solids and make use of this framework for the transition of the solid to a rigid body in the limit of infinite stiffness. At last, we demonstrate how to immerse a discretized solid into a fluid for fluid-structure interaction problems.
Przedstawiona praca dotyczy mechaniki continuum w zastosowaniu do ciał sztywnych i odkształcalnych oraz do płynów. W ramach wspólnego systemu elementów skończonych dokonano aproksymacji całego rozważanego systemu. W szczególności, przedstawiono standardowe, oparte na przemieszczeniach, sformułowanie FEM dla ciał deformowalnych i wykorzystano je przy przejściu granicznym do ciała o nieskończonej sztywności. W końcu, zademonstrowano problemy interakcji między płynem a strukturą na przykładzie zdyskretyzowanego ciała zanurzonego w cieczy.

Cet article est un suite d'une étude "Mémoire sur les multiplicités Cantoriennes" parus au tome VII des cet journal. Dans le troisième chapitre (le premier deux se trouvent dans la premier partie de ce mémoire) l'auteur montre la construction de quelques exemples des continus indécomposables. Dans le quatrième chapitre il établit plusieurs théorèmes concernant la dimension des ensembles fermés. Dans le cinquième chapitre l'auteur revient à l'étude de la dimension des ensembles situes dans des espaces Euclidiens E_n à un nombre quelconque de dimensions. Il généralise au cas de n quelconque les principaux résultats de chapitre II. Enfin, dans le sixième chapitre, il s'occupe du problème de la décomposition des ensembles en ensembles de dimension 0 qu'il propose d'étudier dans ce dernier chapitre.

A formulation is presented for optimal design in the setting of linear elastostatics for continuum structures, where the modulus tensor field is expressed as a decomposition into a set of independent tensors. For the linear case at hand, net material properties simply equal the sum of the constituent tensor fields. The design variables are comprised of one or more of the these fields, while the remaining ones in the "mix" are taken to be specified and fixed. The optimal continuum structure is designated to be such combination of designed and specified constituent fields that minimizes structural compliance. A set of unit energies is introduced to serve as a basis for the general expression of both unit cost in the isoperimetric (cost) constraint, and unit strain energy. The design problem is characterized in the form of a max-min problem, where the max applies to design and the (inner) min is w.r.t. the state variables. Partitioning of energies among constituents in the optimal mixture is identified directly from the govering equations.

A space Y is called a free space if for each compactum X the set of maps with hereditarily indecomposable fibers is a dense $G_δ$-subset of C(X,Y), the space of all continuous functions of X to Y. Levin proved that the interval I and the real line ℝ are free. Krasinkiewicz independently proved that each n-dimensional manifold M (n ≥ 1) is free and the product of any space with a free space is free. He also raised a number of questions about the extent of the class of free spaces. In this paper we will answer most of those questions. We prove that each cone is free. We introduce the notion of a locally free space and prove that a locally free ANR is free. It follows that every polyhedron is free. Hence, 1-dimensional Peano continua, Menger manifolds and many hereditarily unicoherent continua are free. We also give examples that show some limits to the extent of the class of free spaces.
