Opis:
This paper presents research results related to measurements of partial discharges (PD), which may occur in oil insulation systems of electric power transformers. Three measuring methods were considered: electrical (apparent charge - IEC60270), acoustic emission (AE) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) method. Research works have been proceeded under laboratory condition. PD were generated using special apparatus and spark gap configuration for surface PD modeling. Measurements were performed simultaneously for each of the regarded methods and were repeated for selected supply voltage levels. The electrical and UHF methods measurements were made using MPD measuring system from Omicron. The AE method measurements were made using a piezoelectric transducer, which was installed on the outer transformer tank wall. Comparative analysis of signals gathered during research works was made. Possibilities of application of the three considered PD detection methods for electric power systems with oil insulation were proposed in the paper.

Opis:
An alternative method for analysis of acoustic emission (AE) signals generated by partial discharges (PD), based on a correlation between voltage phase run and AE pulses, so called phase resolved PD pattern (PRPD), is presented in the paper. PRPD pattern is a well-known analysis tool commonly used in such PD diagnostic methods as conventional electrical and UHF ones. Moreover, it yields various signal analysis abilities and allows a direct correlation indication between measurement results achieved using different methods. An original PRPD measurement methodology applied for AE method as well as some exemplary measurement results and further data analysis capabilities are presented in the paper. Also a comparative analysis of PRPD patterns achieved using various measurement methods and different PD source configurations have been investigated. All presented experiments were done under laboratory conditions using PD model sources immersed in the insulation oil. The main purpose of the presented research is to indicate an all-embracing analytical tool that yields an ability to direct comparison (qualitative as well as quantitative) of the AE measurement results with other commonly applied PD measurement methods. The presented results give a solid fundamental for further research work concerning a direct correlation method for AE and other described in the paper diagnostic techniques, mainly in order to continue PD phenomena analysis and assessment in real life high voltage apparatus insulation systems under normal onsite operation conditions.

Wavelet transformation is one of the most popular tools for acoustic signal analysis. It provides good resolution both in time and frequency domains as well as wide choice of mother wavelets - this makes wavelet transformation a choice when flexible approach is required. However, selecting parameters of analysis can be difficult, especially regarding mother wavelet as different mother wavelets have various properties regarding number of vanishing moments and symmetry. This paper presents studies to determine the possibility of on-load tap changer wear detection by applying wavelet transformation. In research, different mother wavelets were selected and their usefulness was examined. Signals to be analyzed were obtained during on-load tap changer operation in different mechanical conditions - simulating devices wear in service. All measurements were performed on model very similar to real industrial on-load tap changer. Tests were conducted in controlled laboratory environment, reducing most of the possible disruptions.

The paper deals with mathematical modeling of acoustic emission signals which are generated in on load tap changers. In power engineering area acoustic emission method is commonly used for diagnosis purposes. Authors in their research works apply it for detection of defects occurring in on load tap changers, which are important elements of power transformers. The acoustic emission method is based on measurements performed by use of wideband piezoelectric transducers that are mounted on transformer tank surface. The registered signal is then analyzed in the time, frequency, and time-frequency domains or is evaluated with computer expert systems for diagnosis purposes. Depending on indicators device technical condition can be determined. The contribution given by the authors in this paper is proposal of a mathematical model, which describes envelope of the measured acoustic emission signal.

Opis:
Results of scientific research works considering selection of measuring transducer applied for registration of acoustic emission signals generated by on load tap changers are presented in the paper. During the coupling process acoustic emission signals are generated by: the mechanical setup of tap changer, contacts operation, and other phenomena. For most on load tap changers types, the working medium is insulation oil in which the acoustic wave being formed propagates to the steal tank. There exists a possibility to register acoustic emission signals with a piezoelectric transducer attached to the outer tank surface or with a hydrophone immersed in the oil. Acoustic emission signal obtained in such manner contains information which describes operation of the power tap changer and the selector. A comparative analysis of acoustic emission signals generated by on load tap changers working under laboratory conditions, with applied measuring transducers with different transmittances, is presented in the paper. The comparative analysis was performed in order to determine their suitability for on load tap changers technical condition diagnosis. Based on the results achieved, one transducer which allows the registration of acoustic events generated during on load tap changers operation was selected.

An acoustic emission method (AE) is widespread and often applied for partial discharge (PD) diagnostics, mainly due to its ease of application as well as noninvasiveness and relatively high sensitivity. This paper presents comparative analysis of AE signals measurement results archived under laboratory conditions as well as on-site actual AE signals generated by inside PDs in electrical power transformer during its normal service. Three different PD model sources are applied for laboratory research: point to point, multipoint to plate and surface type. A typical measuring set up commonly used for on-site transformer PD diagnostics is provided for the laboratory tasks: piezoelectric joint transducer, preamplifier, amplifier and measuring PC interface. During the on-site research there are three measuring tracks applied simultaneously. Time domain, time-frequency domain and statistical tools are used for registered AE signals analysis. A number of descriptors are proposed as a result of the analysis. In the paper, attempt of AE signals descriptors, archived under laboratory condition application possibilities for on-site PD diagnostics of power transformers during normal service is made.

Subject matter of this article concerns the results of research works on the development and use of the vibroacoustic method to evaluate technical state of transformer cores. The article presents obtained measurement results of transformer mechanical vibration for two cases of its operation: with twisted and loosened core. In order to demonstrate negative effects of operating a transformer with a loosened core, this publication presents thermographic images showing temperature distribution on its magnetic core. The article characterises the examined transformer, employed measurement system and methodology of the completed experiment. The vibroacoustic and thermographic measurements were carried out during idle work of the transformer. Core vibration was registered for three measurement axes: 0X, 0Y and 0Z. Completed tests have proven that loosened screws pressing the core cause evident increase in the value of magnetic core vibration acceleration. At the same time, the temperature rises by more than 25%.

Sygnały EA pozyskane z badań laboratoryjnych, w których symulowano cztery rodzaje defektów - typowych uszkodzeń PPZ, poddano wstępnej analizie z wykorzystaniem filtrów cyfrowych i transformaty Hilberta, a następnie poddano procesowi klasyfikacji. W artykule zawarto przykładowe przebiegi czasowe sygnałów EA oraz wyniki wstępnych badań dotyczących klasyfikacji defektów PPZ z wykorzystaniem siedmiu metod wraz z oceną ich skuteczności.
The subject of the article concerns recognition of defects of on load tap changers (OLTC) with the use of supervised learning. OLTC is a specialized device that is part of a power transformer, which allows for a step change of the gear and thus the voltage at the terminals of this transformer. The acoustic emission (AE) method was applied as diagnostic method. The advantage of this method lies in the possibility of its application during normal operation of the device without having to turn it off. EA signals were obtained from laboratory tests in which four types of defects - typical OLTC damages, were simulated. The gathered signals were pre-analyzed using digital filters and Hilbert transforms, and then subjected to the classification process. The article contains examples of EA signal waveforms and the results of preliminary research on the classification of OLTC defects with the use of seven methods together with an assessment of their effectiveness.

Reliable operation of an electric power system is connected with the necessity of maintenance of its particular elements for theirs good technical state. Important part of the electric power network is the high power transformer, which inherent elements are bushing isolators. Effective detection of PDs in inner part of the paper-oil isolation is one of the main conditions which assure safety operation of bushing isolators. Limited possibility for switching off the electric power devices is a reason for looking for new diagnostic methods enabling on-line measurements execution. Measurements results of AE signals generated in a bushing isolator: with defective inner paper-oil isolation, with presence of air blebs freely moving inside the isolation system, with forced motion of air blebs and with entered natural aging products of cellulose between the particular layers of the insulating system are presented in the paper. Results achieved in the scope of works performed confirmed the application possibility of AE method for technical state diagnosis of paper-oil insulation of bushing isolators in terms of PD appearance. During measurements of AE signals two kinds of PDs have been observed: electrical discharges in the inner part of paper-oil isolation and inside the air blebs. Time-frequency analysis has enabled to assign characteristic frequency bands to the particular PD types. This has created a basis for further works aiming development of research methodic enabling for AE signals measurement on bushing isolators under normal operation condition.
