Ecumenical dialogues that seek to bring all followers of Christ closer to unity face many difficulties. One of them is the wrong understanding of ecumenism (doctrinal, spiritual and practical). Also an obstacle is the lack of distinction between the unity of Christians and the unity of the Churches. This article undertakes the presentation of another such difficulty in the path of Christian unity, which is the Mariological (doctrinal) and Marian (worship/devotion) issues. Ecumenical meetings, therefore, do not avoid such difficult topics concerning the Mother of the Lord, such as her virginity, Immaculate Conception, Assumption or her role as Mother of the Church. Many Christian traditions have different interpretations of these truths. Catholic and Orthodox communities even consider them an inalienable part of their spiritual heritage, while most Protestant communities have a more nuanced approach and do not accept these truths as binding, but reject them. A compilation of the documents to date relating to the Mother of God proves to be a big, positive surprise. Of course, these are writings of varying degrees of validity, as they come as much from international mixed official commissions as from national bilateral bodies or local debates. Nevertheless, both their prominence and impact, as well as their quantity, make it clear that the person and action of the Mother of Jesus nevertheless animates and strengthens the difficult rapprochement of the followers of her Divine Son.

Following Jesus is not just a personal matter of the individual Christian. It's the matter of the community, a condition to the community of the Church continued steadfastly in the unity which is koinonia. This article proposes an interpretation to follow Jesus with the use of an ecumenical hermeneutics. Therefore, it has been shown in the biblical perspective, taking into account the analysis of the vocabulary relating to reality: as well as following as desire to know Jesus. Especially the teaching of St. Paul brings a lot of contents for understanding this issue. Following Jesus is a requirement of an authentic Christian life. It consists of a recognition of his own sin and the gift of the community - the Church. The consequence of following Jesus is personal adjusting to Himself. To describe the truth in theology following concepts were developed: chrystoformizacja and deification, referred to Christians of the various denominations. Following Jesus should be regarded as a fundamental dimension of the spiritual roots of ecumenism, appeal to all His students, regardless of denomination which they identify. It is therefore necessary to form Christian communities in such a way that each individual Christian wants to take the imitation of Jesus and thus contribute to the unity of the Church.

The first part of the article describes signs of a crisis of Christianity in the contemporary world. One can distinguished both the deepening of a crisis of faith and various threats, which have been very dangerous for Christians. Among many causes of the modern crisis of faith it should be pointed out the tolerance for pathologies, the triumph of atheistic philosophies, the anthropological reductionism, and the relativisation of personal evil. Apart from that in some countries in the world Christians have been persecuted and even put to death. It is necessary to take into account this general context if one would like to take into consideration the problem of the necessity of common witness on Christ and the cause of the lack of Christian Unity. Today, as the Author ascertain in the second part of his text, it is impossible to deal with ecumenical matters without relating them to various factors influencing on the situation of Christianity in the world. As it is evident, so far the full Eucharistic Fellowship has not been reached by the ecumenical dialogue. Practically, a greater part of agreements of theological dialogues have not got reception on the parish level. There is no common Christian language, which could be commonly used, what it points out to a deep disagreement about the Truth. From the Orthodox point of view unity is to be understood not as a mere administrative arrangement and a human achievement, but as a manifestation of grace and as the fullness of the new life which renews the earth-born and the whole of their world. In order to understand why the Christian unity is so difficult to acquire it is necessary to look at the Church of Christ as a personal community in resemblance of the Holy Trinity as the community of the Divine Persons. The Author in the third part of the article underlines that the Trinitarian relations between God the Father, the Son of God and the Holy Spirit consist the most perfect pattern for relations between human persons in the fellowship of the Church. From such a point of view the Church is not an occasional ‘happening’, where the Word of God is preached and listened to and the sacraments are performed, but as the reality of sonship in the Spirit, that is, as a constant movement of filial grace from the Father, giving his Son to us in the Spirit, and as a return of this by us, ‘giving grace’ to him by offering back to him his Son in his incarnate, sacrificial and risen state as the head of a body comprising all of us and all that exists. The fourth part of the article refers to a question of the unity of the Church and understanding of truth. The problem of understanding of truth in the Church may be expressed in the following question: How can we hold at the same time to the historical nature of truth and the presence of ultimate truth here and now? For an answer to this question it can be very helpful to look at the Greek Fathers, both their failures and their success, in arriving at an understanding of truth which might have meaning for a person of Greek mentality, without betraying or distorting the message of the Bible. Their spiritual and intellectual contribution has been essential for a reflection on the relation between truth and salvation. They underlined that human person as the whole (not only his reason, but all functions of his intellect in connection to soul and body) was committed into the process of learning truth. Therefore bodily ascetism in the Church is one of essential conditions of approach to truth, the supreme road to theological knowledge. It is not possible for human being to come to know the truth of life, the truth of God and the truth of his own existence purely through intellectual categories, relative analogies and conventional expressions, because they give only a relative and conventional knowledge. Knowing God is possible only in Christ, who as the personal Truth has been the source of all truths. In order to know Christ as Truth it requires opening for His presence not only on the level of reason, but approaching Him in ones intellect, soul and body. Particularly, the change of the intellect (Gr. μετάνοια) is very important on the way toward the uniting Truth. There are some important conclusions, indicated in the final part of the article, resulting from the Christian understanding of the uniting Truth for ecumenical endeavors. Particularly important is not to treat the doctrinal ecumenism solely as an intellectual convergence process in separation from all that, what constitute the life of the Church of Christ. One has to remember that notions taken from kataphatic theology should be supplemented by notions from apophatic theology, because the knowledge of God is knowing the Unknowable. Striving for the unity of Christians, similarly to striving for the unity of a human person in relation to God, requires the change of intellect, by the attention (Gr. προσοχή), watchfulness (Gr. νῆψις), prayer, the Liturgy and ascetism.

A careful examination of the text of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical Ut unum sint allows us to see, first of all, the fact that His Holiness was closely acquainted with the ecclesiological doctrine of the Second Vatican Council, in which he, in fact, played an active part, including by drafting some synodal documents, such as the decree on ecumenism Unitatis redintegratio. Moreover, in his ecumenical approach, Pope John Paul II aptly advocated for the participation of the Catholic Church in the work of the Ecumenical Council of Churches and for the restoration of the unity of Christians, hence his full ecumenical commitment to engage in ecumenical dialogue with all the Churches, and particularly with the Eastern Church, which he suggestively called “sister Church”. In fact, both his pastoral-practical activity of ecumenical commitment, as well as his encyclicals, abundantly confirm that the Supreme Pontiff has indeed made a praiseworthy contribution to the cause of Christian unity, which the Founder of the Church himself wanted (cf. John 17:21), and which must remain an example for us Christians of today and tomorrow.

4 grudnia 2020 Papieska Rada dla Popierania Jedności Chrześcijan opublikowała liczący ok. 50 stron dokument pt. Biskup i jedność chrześcijan: vademecum ekumeniczne. Ma on być przewodnikiem „w ekumenicznej drodze” biskupa wraz z jego diecezją. Vademecum bazuje na istniejących już dokumentach Kościoła katolickiego na temat ekumenizmu, ale wybiera z nich treści najbardziej praktyczne, uwzględniając najnowsze osiągnięcia ruchu ekumenicznego. Opisuje jaka powinna być ekumeniczna postawa wiernych Kościoła katolickiego, których w tym zakresie powinna cechować prawda, miłość, pokora, cierpliwość i wytrwałość. Vademecum ukazuje, że biskup powinien być człowiekiem jedności, dialogu i kultury spotkania. Jego posługa jedności jest głęboko związana z synodalnością, gdyż zarówno synodalność i jak ekumenizm są procesami wspólnej drogi. Dokument opisuje służące ekumenizmowi struktury Kościoła i sposoby działania: ekumenizm duchowy, dialog miłości, dialog prawdy i dialog życia, który zawiera w sobie ekumenizm duszpasterski, ekumenizm praktyczny i ekumenizm kulturowy. Vademecum przypomina dotychczasowe zasady communicatio in sacris, nic w nich nie zmieniając, choć przyjmuje perspektywę biskupa i dlatego współuczestnictwo w życiu sakramentalnym pojmuje raczej jako część ekumenizmu duszpasterskiego niż aspekt ekumenizmu duchowego. Niezwykle cenną rzeczą Vademecum są jego zalecenia praktyczne, które w sposób prosty i konkretny przekładają wyłożoną wcześniej treść na język czynów. Do dokumentu dołączono niezwykle użyteczny aneks, który zawiera syntetyczny opis partnerów Kościoła katolickiego w ekumenicznym dialogu międzynarodowym. Vademecum jest tekstem na tyle praktycznym, że skorzystają z niego nie tylko biskupi; może stanowić pomoc dla wszystkich osób zaangażowanych w ekumenizm.
The 4 December 2020, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity published a document of about 50 pages, entitled The Bishop and Christian unity: an ecumenical vademecum. It is to be a guide “on the ecumenical path” of the bishop and his diocese. The Vademecum is based on the existing documents of the Catholic Church on ecumenism, but selects the most practical content from them, taking into account the latest achievements of the ecumenical movement. It describes what should be the ecumenical attitude of the faithful of the Catholic Church, who should be characterized by truth, love, humility, patience, and persistence. The Vademecum shows that a bishop should be a man of unity, dialogue, and a culture of encounter. His ministry of unity is deeply linked to synodality since both synodality and ecumenism are processes of the common path. The document describes the structures of the Church and the modes of operation that serve ecumenism: spiritual ecumenism, the dialogue of love, the dialogue of truth, and dialogue of life. The last includes pastoral ecumenism, practical ecumenism, and cultural ecumenism. The Vademecum resembles previous rules of communicatio in sacris, without changing them, although it adopts the bishop's perspective and therefore understands participation in sacramental life as a part of the pastoral ecumenism rather than an aspect of spiritual ecumenism. The practical recommendations that translate the previously laid out content into the language of actions in a simple and concrete way are very valuable. The document is accompanied by a very useful appendix that contains a synthetic description of the partners of the Catholic Church in ecumenical international dialogue. The Vademecum is a text so practical that not only bishops will use it; it can help all those involved in ecumenism.

In the Christian theological language, the term “ecumenism” was put in circulation by the Ecumenical Movement initiated by the Christians after the First World War. But, in the language of the Catholic Church, the term “ecumenism,” used with the meaning of the “ecumenical movement,” was introduced by the renowned theologian Yves Congar in 1937. And, then, it was taken over by the Second Vatican Council for the text of the decree on ecumenism Unitatis redintegratio. The Roman Catholic Church joined the Ecumenical Movement in 1961, when its delegates were presents at the Session — held in New Delhi — of the Ecumenical Council. Among other things, from the text of the Encyclical Ut unum sint published by Pope John Paul II in the year 1995, we could notice that His Holiness asserted that an ecumenical dialogue — that remains in fact one of the main instruments for the reestablishment of the ecumenical unity — has to fulfill the requirements stipulated by the Second Vatican Council, adopted however to the ecumenical realities of the present times.

Każdy ze świętych ogłoszonych przez Kościół jest jedyny i niepowtarzalny w życiu i przesłaniu. Święty Andrzej Bobola błyszczy wśród nich wyjątkowością, gdyż inicjatywa wyniesienia na ołtarze nie wyszła od wiernego ludu, ale od niego, przebywającego już w królestwie Bożym. Jego prośba o kanonizację potwierdzona była skuteczną pomocą jezuitom w Pińsku, a potem w wyzwoleniu Polski z niewoli okupantów. Został także patronem Polski. Wobec tych znaków ludzie uwierzyli mu, dlatego z szacunkiem czcili jego ciało, które nie ulegało rozkładowi. Pomimo tylu nieszczęść nikt nie potrafił go zniszczyć. Do dziś leży w sanktuarium ku jego czci w Warszawie. Także w obecnych czasach św. Andrzej jest potrzebny do duchowego zmartwychwstania Polski. Przypomniał o tym w Strachocinie, objawiając się po raz trzeci i nakazując, aby go czcić.
Every saint canonized by the Church is unique through their life and message. St. Andrew Bobola is a shining example among them since the initiative for his canonization process did not stem from the faithful in as much as from the saint himself appearing after his death and asking for it. His request was confirmed thanks to his efficacious aid of the Jesuits in Pińsk, and later during Poland’s liberation from the occupying forces. In light of these signs, people believed him and greatly honored his body which miraculously did not decay and remained intact even after unsucceful attempts to destroy it. The body lies to this day in the Warsaw Shrine dedicated to him. St. Andrew Bobola’s powerful intersession is still very much needed now for Poland’s spiritual resurrection.

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest prezentacja kluczowych aspektów ekumenicznej wizji papieża Franciszka w perspektywie ewangelizacji. Na początku zwrócono uwagę na współzależność ruchu ekumenicznego i ewangelizacyjnej misji Kościoła. Następnie przedstawiono w kluczu misyjnym wybrane elementy ekumenicznej wizji papieża Franciszka: naturę i cel dążeń ekumenicznych, model jedności oraz podstawowe wymiary dynamiki dążenia do jej urzeczywistnienia. W końcowej części sformułowano wnioski i wskazano na zagadnienia domagające się dalszych badań. Z przeprowadzonych analiz wynika, że postrzeganie ekumenizmu w optyce ewangelizacji stanowi ważny klucz do lepszego zrozumienia ekumenicznej myśli i aktywności papieża Franciszka.
The present essay aims at presenting key aspects of the ecumenical vision of Pope Francis in the perspective of evangelization. First, the author focused upon the interdependence of the ecumenical movement and the evangelizing mission of the Church. Next, the author presented selected elements of the ecumenical vision of Pope Francis: the nature and aim of ecumenical efforts, the model of unity and basic dimensions of the dynamics of striving to realize it. Finally, the author formulated his conclusions and pointed to some issues which must be investigated further. It follows from the analysis made that perceiving ecumenism in the perspective of evangelization is an important key to a better understanding of the ecumenical thought and activity of Pope Francis.

Opis:
Sociologists often deal with issues such as religion, spirituality, Church institutions’ functioning and theirs relationships with social environment or religious based conflicts. There are specific disciplins (e.g. sociology of religion, sociology of Church, sociology of parish), which are specialized in research, trends examining and creating concepts and theories within this spheres of social life. However, the issue of interconfessional relationships, which are focused on cooperation and unity, is taken by sociologists relatively seldom. In the article I try to reply on this deficiency by presenting the problem of ecumenism from sociological perspective. Based on own research, I discuss following issues: declarative Christians’ attitude to ecumenism, their personal commitment in ecumenical movement, knowledge about ecumenism, respondents’ opinions on ecumenical institutions (e.g. The World Council of Churches) and on ecumenical commitment of their own confessional groups. The main conclusions concern discrepancies between declarations of positive attitudeto idea of ecumenism and low level of knowledge and personal activity in this field. The article – besides attempt of showing ‘ecumenical situation’ among secular Christians – try to invite for the debate on justification of dealing with ‘ecumenism issue’ by sociologists.
Socjologowie często podejmują problematykę religii, duchowości, funkcjonowania instytucji religijnych, ich relacji z otoczeniem społecznym czy konfliktów na tle religijnym. Niektóre z dyscyplin szczegółowych, np. socjologia religii, socjologia Kościoła, socjologia parafii, wyspecjalizowały się w badaniach, obserwacji trendów oraz tworzeniu koncepcji i teorii dotyczących zjawiska religii i religijności. Jednak problem relacji międzywyznaniowych, które są nastawione na współpracę i pojednanie, podejmowany jest stosunkowo rzadko na gruncie socjologii. Niniejszym tekstem, ukazującym kwestię ekumenizmu z perspektywy socjologicznej, staram się odpowiedzieć na te niedobory. Na podstawie badań własnych omawiam zagadnienia deklaratywnego stosunku chrześcijan do ekumenizmu, ich osobistego zaangażowania w ruch ekumeniczny, wiedzy na jego temat, a także ocen respondentów dotyczących instytucji ekumenicznych i działań własnego Kościoła w tym zakresie. Główne spostrzeżenia dotyczą rozbieżności postaw ankietowanych chrześcijan: istnieje dysproporcja pomiędzy deklaratywnym poparciem dla idei i działań ekumenicznycha osobistym zaangażowaniem w ruch i wiedzą na jego temat. Poza próbą nakreślenia „sytuacji ekumenicznej” wśród świeckich chrześcijan celem artykułu jest zaproszenie do debaty nad zasadnością zajmowania się kwestią ekumenizmu przez socjologów.

The Marian sanctuary in Święta Lipka, in the Masurian Lakeland macroregion, is one of the most famous sacred places in Poland. Pilgrims from Poland and from abroad have been coming here since the Middle Ages. People pray to Our Lady of the miraculous painting. They also listen to music that is played on a baroque pipe organ. In 2018, the sanctuary celebrated important jubilees: the 400th anniversary of the protection of the Polish king Sigismund III Waza over the sanctuary; the 125th anniversary of the music school graduation of the composer Feliks Nowowiejski; the 50th anniversary of the crowning of the image of Our Lady by the Polish Primate, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński and the Archbishop of Kraków, Cardinal Karol Wojtyła. The festive jubilee gave the opportunity to summarize scientific research on the church and monastery of the Jesuits. The author of the bibliography presents what we already know about the sanctuary, and also suggests research areas that have not yet been analyzed by historians.
Sanktuarium maryjne w Świętej Lipce na Mazurach to jedno z najbardziej znanych miejsc pielgrzymkowych w Polsce. Od czasów średniowiecza przybywają tu pielgrzymi z Polski i z krajów sąsiednich, aby modlić się przed słynącym łaskami wizerunkiem Matki Bożej oraz słuchać koncertów muzycznych, które wykonywane są na imponujących organach barokowych. W 2018 roku sanktuarium przeżywało trzy ważne rocznice: 400-lecie oddania Świętej Lipki pod opiekę króla polskiego Zygmunta III Wazy i jego następców, 125-lecie ukończenia świętolipskiej szkoły muzycznej przez Feliksa Nowowiejskiego oraz 50-lecie koronacji obrazu Matki Bożej Świętolipskiej przez prymasa Polski kard. Stefana Wyszyńskiego oraz metropolitę krakowskiego kard. Karola Wojtyłę. Uroczysty jubileusz stworzył okazję do wielu podsumowań w zakresie stanu badań historycznych nad dziejami kościoła i klasztoru jezuitów. Prezentowana bibliografia usiłuje zebrać to, co już wiadomo na temat sanktuarium, oraz próbuje zasugerować obszary badawcze, które jeszcze oczekują na swoich dziejopisów.

This article focuses on catechetical meaning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity inthe diocese of Opole based on pastoral letters of bishop A. They consist of valuable teachings on the Catechismas well as invitation to get involved in the ecumenical movement. In those pastoral lettersare presented especially issues that are derived from particular goals of the catechesis like:growth in understanding of the faith, introduction to the mission, formation in prayer, aswell as fostering life within the community.
Artykuł podejmuje problematykę katechetycznego znaczenia Tygodnia Powszechnej Modlitwyo Jedność Chrześcijan w diecezji opolskiej w oparciu o listy pasterskie z lat 2016–2018, jakie bp A. Czaja skierował do wiernych w związku z obchodami tego tygodnia.Są one ważne z punktu widzenia współczesnej katechezy ukierunkowanej ekumenicznie.Zawierają cenne pouczenia katechizmowe oraz zaproszenie do włączenia się w ruch ekumeniczny.W sposób szczególny w listach pasterskich bpa A. Czai obecne są zagadnienia,które wynikają z realizacji takich zadań katechezy, jak: rozwój poznania wiary, wprowadzeniedo misji, wychowanie do modlitwy oraz wychowanie do życia wspólnotowego.

This present study aims to familiarise the Reader with some of the ideas contained in speeches of Benedict XVI – given at ecumenical meetings, chiefly with Protestants, but also during the general audiences on the Weeks of Prayer for Christian Unity and during the vespers for the conclusion of those Weeks. In his speeches, Benedict XVI indicates the positives that he sees in Martin Luther's teachings, emphasises the significance of the Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, whilst also pointing out what still needs to be refined together. He states that one must not disregard theological issues in the ecumenical dialogue. The warnings of Benedict XVI against making mistakes in the ecumenical dialogue and in the interpretation of unity itself are significant. In each of his speeches, he encourages to deepen one's spiritual ecumenism, invites to pray for unity, demonstrates that complete and visible unity is, above all, the work of God. His encouragements to bear witness to God's priority in the Christian life together to the world, to oppose secularisation together, to defend the human dignity and life and their associated ethical values together are also important.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie, przy zastosowaniu metody diachronicznej i porównawczej, w jaki sposób ewoluowało i rozwijało się pojęcie jedności Kościoła w twórczości teologicznej ks. Stanisława Nagiego SCJ, późniejszego kardynała. W pierwszym paragrafie zostały ukazane jego poglądy na jedność Kościoła z apologetycznego okresu jego twórczości, który trwał jeszcze kilka lat po zakończeniu Soboru Watykańskiego II. Paragraf drugi prezentuje nowe ujęcie jedności Kościoła w myśli ks. S. Nagiego, które pojawiło się w związku z eklezjologią Soboru Watykańskiego II i włączeniem się Kościoła katolickiego do ruchu ekumenicznego. Nowość ta wyrażała się w odnajdywaniu wspólnej płaszczyzny eklezjologii katolickiej i protestanckiej w postaci uznawania niewidzialnego i widzialnego wymiaru Kościoła oraz w wyjaśnieniu możliwości pozytywnej oceny ruchu ekumenicznego w dokumentach soborowych poprzez zastosowanie rozróżnienia na „jedność chrześcijan” i „jedność Kościoła” obecnego w dekrecie o ekumenizmie Unitatis redintegratio. Eklezjologia jedności Kościoła obecna w pismach ks. Stanisława Nagiego SCJ, późniejszego kardynała, wpisuje się w nurt „hermeneutyki ciągłości”, o której pisał Joseph Ratzinger/Benedykt XVI, wskazując na trwałość tożsamości Kościoła.
The topic of Church unity is one of the most important issues in both ecclesiology and ecumenical theology. The aim of the article is to show, using a diachronic and comparative method, how the concept of Church unity evolved and developed in the theological work of Stanisław Nagy, S.C.J., later a Cardinal. The first paragraph presents the Nagy’s views on Church unity from his apologetic period, which lasted some years after the end of the Vatican Council. The second paragraph presents a new approach to Church unity in Nagy’s thought, which emerged in connection with the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council and the inclusion of the Catholic Church into the ecumenical movement. This novelty was expressed in finding common ground between Catholic and Protestant ecclesiology in the recognition of the invisible and visible dimensions of the Church and in clarifying the possibility of a positive assessment of the ecumenical movement in the conciliar documents by applying the distinction between “Christian unity” and “Church unity” present in the decree on ecumenism Unitatis Redintegratio. The ecclesiology of the Church unity present in the writings of Stanisław Nagy, S.C.J., later a Cardinal, is a part of the current of the “hermeneutics of continuity” of which Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI wrote, pointing to the permanence of the identity of the Church.

Papież Pius XII popierał ideę jedności europejskiej, ale przypomniał Europejczykom o zasadach, na których należy budować sprawiedliwe i trwałe współistnienie Europy: „prawo moralne, które Stwórca objawił przez prawo naturalne” w odniesieniu do godności osoby ludzkiej i wszystkich społeczności naturalnych. Był przekonany, że Europa nie powinna być superpaństwem, nieszanującym kultur narodowych, ale syntezą narodów zachowujących swoją tożsamość i ponadnarodową solidarność, opartą nie na zbiegu interesów gospodarczych i politycznych, ale na jedności ducha chrześcijańskiego.
Pope Pius XII supported the idea of unifying Europe, but reminded Europeans of the principles on which a just and durable European convivence had to be based: on the “moral law that the Creator revealed by means of natural law”, in respect of the dignity of human persons and of all natural communities. He was convinced that Europe should not be a super state disrespecting national cultures, but a synthesis of national identities and transnational solidarity based not on a coincidence of economic or political interests, but on the unity of Christian spirit.

Ojciec św. Franciszek w Adhortacji Amoris laetitia poświęca sporo miejsca sprawie dojrzewania małżonków chrześcijańskich. W punkcie 122, w którym wprowadza powyższe zagadnienie, przywołuje porównanie chrześcijańskich relacji małżeńskich do związku Chrystusa z Kościołem. Nawiązuje w ten sposób do Listu św. Pawła do Efe-zjan (5,21-33). Papież spostrzega, że analogia ta opisuje dojrzały stan chrześcijańskiego małżeństwa. W artykule dokonano przeglądu egzegetycznego Ef 5,21-33 eksponując jego istotne teologicznie punkty. Zwrócono przy tym uwagę na te fragmenty, które wskazują na dynamiczną koncepcję chrześcijańskiego małżeństwa. Stanowią je: parenetyczny kontekst i chrzcielny fundament małżeństwa. Oba są związane z praktyką życia chrześcijańskiego, które w chrzcie ma swój początek i aktualizuje w konkretnych postawach, zwłaszcza tych zmierzających do zachowania jedności, która jest jednym z fundamentalnych dzieł Jezusa. Szczególnym miejscem jej doświadczania jest chrześcijańskie małżeństwo.
The Holy Father Francis in the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris laetitia devotes quite a lot of space to the issue of maturing of Christian spouses. In point 122, which introduces the matter mentioned above, he makes reference to a comparison of Christian marital relations to the relationship of Christ to the Church. He thus refers to the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians (5:21-33). The Pope observes that this analogy describes the mature state of a Christian marriage. The article gives an exegetical overview of Eph 5: 21-33, exposing its significant theological points. Special attention was drawn to these passages, which point to a dynamic concept of Christian marriage. These are: verses referring to the parenetic context and containing references to the baptismal foundation of marriage. Both are related to the practice of Christian life, which has its beginning in baptism and is actualised in concrete attitudes, especially those aimed at preserving unity, which is one of Jesus’ fundamental deeds. A special place to experience this unity is a Christian marriage.

The author examines Gilson’s development of the term “theologism” from his 1937 The Unity of Philosophical Experience and his 1938 Reason and Revelation in the Middle Ages. This term is important for understanding Gilson’s developing doctrine on Christian philosophy. The treatment of it helps to show how Gilson’s understanding of Christian philosophy does not entail the formal conflation of philosophy with Christianity—as some have accused. In fact, the knowledge of what theologism is—referring primarily to the misuse of philosophy by the theologian—helps to set the stage for seeking an understanding of the proper relationship of Christianity to philosophy, a unity which maintains formal distinction. This knowledge also provides a hermeneutical tool for the proper interpretation of Gilson’s later writings on Christian philosophy.

Pan Jezus założył swój Kościół na fundamencie apostołów, a sam jest kamieniem węgielnym. Jednak wskutek podziałów dokonujących się w Jego Mistycznym Ciele pojawiło się wiele Kościołów oraz Wspólnot kościelnych. Odwołując się do pierwszych źródeł, jakimi są dokumenty soborów powszechnych Kościoła katolickiego, autorka niniejszego artykułu podejmuje próbę odnalezienia, w dzisiejszej złożonej sytuacji, Kościoła Chrystusowego. W swoich rozważaniach o Kościele autorka porusza kilka tematów. Najpierw przypomina źródło pojawienia się Kościoła, którym był odwieczny zamysł Boga Ojca, zrealizowany przez naszego Pana Jezusa Chrystusa wypełniającego Jego wolę. Kontynuację swojej misji Pan Jezus zlecił wybranym przez siebie apostołom. Odwołuje się do tradycji dogmatycznej, która zaświadcza o jedyności i katolickości Kościoła założonego przez Jezusa Chrystusa. Przypomina, że od początku katolickość była w tym Kościele, w którym apostoł Piotr został ustanowiony pierwszym spośród wybranych. Natomiast podziały w Mistycznym Ciele Chrystusa pojawiły się wskutek grzechu pychy. Te rany podziałów można zaleczyć jedynie poprzez poddanie się Duchowi Świętemu, który jest Duchem jednoczenia, którego tchnienie najbardziej uwidacznia się w Kościele katolickim, który szczerze szuka jedności w dialogu ekumenicznym z Kościołami odłączonymi. Ukazując jedność w wielości, autorka przypomina, iż Kościoły lokalne nie są niczym innym, jak tylko córkami Kościoła powszechnego, a ich łączność z następcą świętego Piotra poprzez biskupa miejsca zaświadcza o różnorodności w jedności.
Jesus Christ built His Church up upon the foundation of the Apostles. And He is himself as the chief cornerstone. Still, in result of divisions made in His mystical body, there is a lot of Churches and Christian communities. The author of this statement tries to find the Christ’s Church in the complicated situation of today, analysing the first sources – the documents of the Ecumenical Councils of the Catholic Church. In statement author concentrates on a few questions. At the beginning she recalls the Source of Church, the eternal God’s concept. Fulfilled by Jesus Christ, who was obedient to his will. Jesus asked the apostles he’d chosen to continue his mission. Here we recall dogmatic tradition, which tells about the unity and Catholicism of the Chuch created by Jesus. She recollects that from the beginning there was Catholicism in Church, in which Apostle Peter was chosen to be the first among those chosen. Divisions in the Mystical Christ Body appeared as the result of pride. These wounds may be cured only by obedience to the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of unity, and whose impact is the most visible in the Catholic Church which sincerely searches for the unity in the ecumenical dialog with disconnected churches. Showing unity in plurality author recalls that local churches are the daughters of General Church, and their unity with the pope through local bishops and shows the variety in unity.

The author of this article presents Benedict XVI’s ecumenical dialogue with the Eastern Orthodox Church as a whole through the speeches, declarations, and homilies that he delivered to representatives of the Eastern Church. This dialogue is undoubtedly significant. As a pope, Benedict XVI fostered and authoritatively promoted this interchange by initiating meetings, participating in communal prayer, teaching, treating those who he encountered with fraternal friendship and charity, and overcoming various obstacles. The Holy Father emphasized the theological studies that the two Churches share in common, because complete and visible communion cannot exist without unity of faith. As always – and particularly as the theologian and as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith – he taught that both Churches could celebrate the Eucharist together only when they are fully united. When would this happen? According to Benedict XVI, such union is a gift from God for which the faithful must pray and toward which they must work by: evangelizing together, mutually resisting ideologies hostile to Christianity and humanity, ensuring peace and justice among Christians and those who follow other religions, and cooperating in charitable care of the poor, the sick, and the needy.

W pierwszej części artykułu autor prezentuje sylwetkę pomysłodawcy i założyciela Globalnego Forum Chrześcijańskiego, a zarazem Sekretarza Generalnego Światowej Rady Kościołów (1993-2003), dr. Konrada Raisera. W drugiej części opracowania naświetlone zostały okoliczności powstania jak i szeroki kontekst pluralizmu konfesyjnego uczestników tej inicjatywy ekumenicznej. Autor ukazał główne zasady i metody jej działania, poddając analizie przebieg i dorobek światowych zgromadzeń Forum. Trzecia część pracy obrazuje proces powstania i działanie inicjatywy ekumenicznej o zasięgu lokalnym, jaką jest – powołane na wzór Globalnego Forum Chrześcijańskiego – Polskie Forum Chrześcijańskie. W podsumowaniu zawarto krótką charakterystykę porównawczą działań platformy globalnej i jej  polskiego odpowiednika.
In the first part of the article author presents the profile of dr Konrad Raiser the originator and founder of the Global Christian Forum and General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (1993-2003) as well. In the second part of the work there are related circumstances and wide context in which the idea of the Forum came into existence. Author approximates the confessional pluralism of whole spectrum of contributors in this ecumenical initiative. There are also presented principles on which the Forum is based and main lines of its activity. The supplement consists in the analysis of the course and achievements of the global gatherings of GChF. The third part of the work shows the development and work of the Polish Christian Forum, which is a local ecumenical initiative on the patterned of the global Forum. In the summary reader can find a short comparative characterisation of the activities of the global platform and its Polish equivalent.

The writings of Corpus Dionysiacum present a concept of life which is different from the one that we profess nowadays. Its view is backed up mainly by the Platonic tradition, which since the times of Plato has tended to see life as an intellectual principle. Therefore, in the Neoplatonic system we can find the conviction that life, in its fullest sense, is intellectual and at its peak is a vision of the One. In the system of Proclus, life, apart from being a principle, is also a god and the main principle of the whole world of intellectual and intellective gods. Pseudo-Dionysius in his writings exploits the concept of the unparticipable and participable principle, and since God is for him Trinity completely beyond participation and knowledge, the divine names play the role of participable henads. However, for Dionysius, names are neither hypostases nor living gods, which is clearly visible in case of the name of Life. All things participate in the name of life and in this name God is the only principle of life in the universe. However, life is not a property to own, but rather a constant struggle to approach the Trinity. Therefore, by committing a sin, an angel or a man loses life, which in the case of a man can be regained through sacramental activity. An analysis of the thoughts of Pseudo-Dionysius reveals a conception of life which is unified contrary to its shattered modern understanding. While biological, mental, moral lives fundamentally differ for us, for Dionysius those are merely aspects of the same thing, and therefore in his view life can be lost and regained not only in the metaphorical, but also the ontological sense.

The author argues that dialogue between Islam and Christianity is necessary to avoid intolerance and politicization of both religions. However, a real dialogue must be based not only on achieving easy approval resulting from the real similarities, but also – and perhaps primarily – on becoming aware of the differences. Such a dialogue can lead to unity in diversity, in which there will be no place for domination of a party, but rather a competition in faith and investigation towards achieving holiness. The article discusses three problems that largely divide Christians and Muslims: Muhammad as a prophet, the role of Abraham in the Islamic revelation and the question of divine filiation of Jesus. The author, relying on the Qur’an, presents mainly the standpoint of Islam (supplemented for comparison with relevant excerpts from the book of Genesis and the New Testament) that sees Mohammed and his revelation as the crowning of a long series of prophets. Although Jesus also is considered a prophet and is one of the most important ones, but suras of the Qur’an strongly emphasize that he cannot be God’s son, because it would impair the perfection and self-sufficiency of the one God, and thus would deny His divinity. The Koran also performs the “Islamization” of Abraham, seeing him as a fully conscious follower of the monotheistic, universalistic religion and a kind of prefiguration of Muhammad – the only just one struggling with pagan (and even more broadly – un-Islamic) environment.
Autor dowodzi, że dialog pomiędzy islamem a chrześcijaństwem jest warunkiem uniknięcia nietolerancji i polityzacji tych religii. Jednak rzeczywisty dialog musi opierać się nie tylko na osiągnięciu łatwej zgody wynikającej z realnych podobieństw, lecz również – a może przede wszystkim – na uświadomieniu sobie różnic. Taki dialog może doprowadzić do jedności w różnorodności, w której nie będzie miejsca na dominację którejś ze stron, lecz raczej na współzawodnictwo w wierze i w dochodzeniu do świętości. W artykule zostały omówione trzy problemy, które w znacznym stopniu dzielą chrześcijan i muzułmanów: Mahomet jako prorok, rola Abrahama w muzułmańskim objawieniu i kwestia Bożego synostwa Jezusa. Autor, opierając się na Koranie, przedstawia głównie stanowisko islamu (uzupełnione dla porównania odpowiednimi fragmentami z księgi Rodzaju i Nowego Testamentu), które widzi w Mahomecie i jego objawieniu ukoronowanie długiego szeregu proroków. Chociaż Jezus również uznany został za proroka i to jednego z najważniejszych, jednak sury Koranu mocno podkreślają, że nie może on być Bożym synem, ponieważ umniejszałoby to doskonałość i samowystarczalność jedynego Boga, a tym samym zaprzeczałoby Jego boskości. Koran dokonuje również „islamizacji” Abrahama, widząc w nim w pełni świadomego wyznawcę monoteistycznej, uniwersalistycznej religii i swego rodzaju prefigurację Mahometa – jedynego sprawiedliwego zmagającego się z pogańskim (a nawet szerzej – nieislamskim) otoczeniem.

Podczas gdy Pius XII był prawie egzystencjalnie związany z ideą europejską i obroną przed antychrześcijańskimi ideologiami, jego dwóch następców próbowało otworzyć „zachodnioeuropejską cytadelę” dialogu ze światem zewnętrznym. Jan Paweł II, zamiast iść na kompromis w sprawie sekularyzmu i marksizmu, zapoczątkował nową ewangelizację, ale zachował fundamentalny europejski optymizm. Benedykt XVI, wręcz przeciwnie, nie wahał się przyznać, że nawet kultura europejska, przekształcona w laicystyczną utopię, która zastępuje Boga wolą człowieka, może zaniknąć.
While Pius XII was almost existentially bound up with European thought and with the defence against anti-Christian ideologies, his two successors initiated a tentative of opening of the “Western European citadel” towards a dialogue with the outer world. John Paul II relaunched a new evangelisation instead of compromises with secularism and Marxism, but maintained a fundamental European optimism, whereas Benedict XVI did not hesitate to admit that the European culture, transformed into a laicist utopia which substitutes God by the obstinate self-will of man, could disappear, too.

Autor artykułu, wykorzystując teksty przemówień, które Benedykt XVI kierował do Europejczyków podczas swego pontyfikatu, starał się ukazać, jaki wkład wniosło chrześcijaństwo, a zwłaszcza Kościół katolicki w budowę cywilizacji europejskiej. Otóż – według papieża – chrześcijaństwo przyniosło przede wszystkim religię monoteistyczną – objawioną wiarę w Boga w Trójcy Osób, a wyeliminowało politeizm i bałwochwalstwo; wniosło religię racjonalną, a uwolniło od irracjonalnych mitów i zabobonów; wniosło kulturę słowa, a przez wieki likwidowało analfabetyzm; wprowadziło ethos pracy, rozwinęło kulturę artystyczną: muzyczną, teatralną i malarską, powołało dzieła miłosierdzia, ukształtowało tożsamość narodów oraz tożsamość Europy. Autor przedstawił też oceny papieża odnośnie do  sytuacji politycznej, społecznej i ideologicznej we współczesnej Europie oraz jego opinie w kwestii jej zjednoczenia, uwzględniające plusy i minusy tego procesu, jak: zapewnienie pokoju na kontynencie i w świecie, rozwój gospodarczy i cywilizacyjny, dążenie do jedności, a nie do jednolitości; zdrową świeckość i poszanowanie autonomii Kościoła. Uwzględnił wreszcie wezwania, aby podstawą pomyślnej przyszłości Europy stało się respektowanie wartości uniwersalnych i chrześcijańskich. Chrześcijaństwo służy bowiem  „oczyszczaniu rozumu”, przyczynia się do formowania sumień i kształtowania humanizmu integralnego, a cześć oddawana Bogu oznacza zarazem troskę o człowieka.
The author of the article tried to show – based on the speeches of Benedict XVI to Europeans – what the Christianity, especially the Catholic Church, has brought to the European civilization. Well, the Christianity brought the monotheistic religion – the revealed faith in God in the Trinity of Persons. It cleansed of polytheism and idolatry; it brought rational religion and freed from irrational myths and superstitions; it brought a culture of word, and, over the centuries, it eliminated illiteracy; it introduced the ethos of work, musical culture and a number of its other kinds, the works of charity. It shaped the identity of nations and the identity of Europe. The author also presents the Pope’s assessment of the contemporary political, social and ideological situation in Europe. He pointed out that the union of Europe ensures peace on the continent and in the world, as well as economic and civilization development. This union is to lead, according to the original assumptions, to unity, not to uniformity; wholesome secularism must respect the autonomy of the  Church. The respect of universal and Christian values is the base of a successful future. Christianity serves “purification of the reason”, contributes to the formation of conscience and an integral humanism. Worshiping God means caring for man.

Autor analizuje zauważane przez niektórych duszpasterzy napięcie pomiędzy celebrowaniem Eucharystii w małych wspólnotach istniejących w parafiach a jednością parafii jako całości oraz teologiczne zasady tej jedności w świetle wybranych wypowiedzi Magisterium Kościoła XX i XXI wieku. Analiza tekstów Magisterium wskazała, że jedność parafii ma wymiar najpierw duchowy, niewidzialny, a następnie także zewnętrzny, widzialny. Konstytuują ją przede wszystkim więzy wyznania wiary, sakramentów, kościelnej hierarchii oraz komunii. Jedność między parafianami buduje się poprzez wtajemniczanie ich w Misterium paschalne oraz w codzienne obcowanie ze Słowem Bożym. W myśl nauczania papieży Jana Pawła II i Benedykta XVI małe wspólnoty zamiast zagrażać jedności parafii, mogą przyczynić się do umocnienia jej jedności poprzez prowadzenie parafian do zjednoczenia z Misterium paschalnym. Wnioski teologiczne autor uzupełnił wynikami badań socjologicznych stanu religijności osób świeckich w parafiach, które sygnalizują poważny kryzys życia wiary i moralności oraz potrzebę sięgania po małe wspólnoty jako środowisko formacyjne i narzędzie wtajemniczenia chrześcijańskiego dorosłych.
The author analyses the problem of parish unity faced with separate Eucharistic celebrations organised by small communities existing in a parish. He tries to formulate theological principles of that unity in the light of the Magisterial documents of 20th and 21st century. The unity of a parish is most importantly connected with the spiritual, invisible dimension, which is also expressed in the external, visible way by bonds of profession of faith, sacraments, Church hierarchy, and communion. Unity between parishioners is built by initiating them into the Paschal Mystery and into daily meditation of the Word of God. Instead of seeing in them a threat to unity, both John Paul II and Benedict XVI indicate that small communities participate in the process of strengthening the unity of the parish by leading people along the mystagogical way towards the initiation into the Paschal Mystery. The author also refers to sociological data about religiosity in contemporary Polish parishes indicating that there is a serious crisis in the life of faith and a dire need for the communities as a means of Christian initiation.
