This paper focuses on a Christian philosophy grounded in the experience of truth. To better understand this, it will explore: (1) the kind of philosophical approach that provides a space for people to preoccupy themselves with truth and draws them to further probe into the fundamental questions; (2) a return to the basics: philosophy as love of wisdom and for love of wisdom is personal, an experiential journey; (3) finally, a vision of Christian philosophy that is not purely theoretical but teaches one how to incarnate every truth and virtue. Christian philosophy provides us with an experience in, with, and of the truth in terms of understanding and developing certain traits and virtues such as prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance. The shaping and molding of these good habits within each person are important in maintaining a Christian worldview to keep one grounded while being immersed in the world and its realities, allowing the Christian to become a reality within oneself and for others.

The article analyses the anthropology of the theology of marriage and the family, presents the foundations of the Christian anthropology of gender, describes the concept of marital love, and introduces the foundations of the theology of indissolubility of marriage and the meaning and mission of marriage using philosophical and theological scientific literature, the writings of John Paul II, the Holy Scripture and the documents of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. The following lines of further research are anticipated: the family as a small domestic church, the principles of the religious education of children in the family, and the family as a place of vocational disclosure. The conclusions of this theoretical study are presented.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie specyfiki chrześcijańskiego modelu krytyki inaczej myślących i postępujących oraz wskazanie jego podstawowych wyznaczników i kontekstów. Punkt odniesienia dla podjęcia tegoż zagadnienia stanowi współczesne wyzwanie wobec głoszenia prawdy Ewangelii, płynące z faktu silnego dowartościowania pluralistycznego charakteru „rynku idei”, które określa wyjątkowość dzisiejszej sytuacji kulturowej. Najpierw zostanie ukazana chrystocentryczno-trynitologiczna optyka, będąca podstawą oryginalnie chrześcijańskiego spojrzenia na rzeczywistość, w tym rzeczywistość krytyki, ześrodkowana ostatecznie na Osobie Jezusa Chrystusa. Następnie zostaną podjęte trzy kluczowe kwestie związane z chrześcijańską wizją krytyki: rozróżnienie między krytyką człowieka a krytyką jego poglądów i postaw, miłość jako ostateczne ufundowanie krytyki oraz powszechne wezwanie do nawrócenia. W podsumowaniu zostanie podkreślone, że u podstaw specyfiki chrześcijańskiego ujęcia krytyki znajduje się Bóg objawiony w Jezusie Chrystusie, będący Prawdą i Miłością i to On stanowi optykę, miarę oraz różnicujące kryterium chrześcijańskiej postawy krytycznej wobec inaczej myślących i postępujących, a zarazem autokrytyki.
The aim of the article is to show the specifi city of the Christian model of criticism of those who think differently and act differently, and to indicate its basic determinants and contexts. The point of reference for considering this issue is the contemporary challenge to proclaiming the truth of the Gospel, resulting from the fact of strong appreciation of the pluralistic nature of the “market of ideas”, which determines the uniqueness of today’s cultural situation. First, the Christocentric-Trinitological perspective will be shown, which is the basis of the originally Christian view of reality, including the reality of criticism, ultimately centered on the Person of Jesus Christ. Then, three key issues related to the Christian vision of criticism will be addressed: the distinction between criticism of man and criticism of his views and attitudes, love as the ultimate foundation of criticism, and the universal call to conversion. In the summary, it will be emphasized that at the basis of the specificity of the Christian approach to criticism there is God revealed in Jesus Christ, who is Truth and Love, and it is He who is the optics, measure and differentiating criterion of the Christian critical attitude towards those who think and act differently, and at the same time of self-criticism.

Artykuł koncentruje się na medytacyjnym aspekcie duchowej przemiany Juliusza Słowackiego i omawia owoce jego medytacyjnej postawy. Głównym materiałem badawczym w przeprowadzanych rozważaniach i ustaleniach stała się korespondencja poety. W pracy poddane analizie zostały kolejno takie jakości i pochodne medytacyjnego stylu życia poety jak: wewnętrzna radość i zachwycenie, poddanie się przyciągającemu działaniu Boga, duchowa obojętność, ale także takie działanie i aktywność, których specyfika i istota okazują się wypadkową aktu medytacyjnego. Wyodrębnienie i przyjrzenie się owym poszczególnym skutkom aktu medytacji pozwala po raz kolejny przychylić się do badawczej opinii Ewy Szczeglackiej-Pawłowskiej, że poeta ów w pełni zasługuje na miano homo meditans. Transgresja duchowa poety była już po wielokroć opisywana jednakże ustawienie jej w świetle medytacji pozwala wydobyć z zagadnienia nowe sensy.
The article focuses on the meditative aspect of Juliusz Słowacki's spiritual transformation and discusses the fruits of his meditative attitude. The poet's correspondence became the main research material in the deliberations and findings. The work analyzes successively such qualities and derivatives of the poet's meditative lifestyle as: inner joy and delight, submission to God's drawing action, spiritual indifference, but also such actions and activities, the specificity and essence of which turn out to be the result of a meditative act. By isolating and examining these particular effects of the act of meditation, we once again agree to the research opinion of Ewa Szczeglacka-Pawłowska that the poet fully deserves to be called homo meditans. The poet's spiritual transgression has been described many times, however, placing it in the light of meditation allows us to extract new meanings from the issue.

Artykuł jest próbą poznania, określenia i wytłumaczenia związków przebaczenia ze sprawiedliwością w perspektywie praktyki chrześcijańskiego powołania. Wszelkie przejawy niesprawiedliwości ludzkiej implikują konieczność przebaczenia. Przebaczenie chrześcijańskie jest wezwaniem do konkretnego działania, ale jest też permanentnym stanem serca. W chrześcijaństwie przebaczenie jest nierozłącznie związane ze sprawiedliwością i dopełnia je, przemieniając zarówno przebaczającego, jak i osobę, której się przebacza. Sprawdzianem prawdziwości przebaczenia chrześcijańskiego jest to, że wyzwala ono człowieka z egoistycznie pojętej miłości samego siebie. Do przebaczenia chrześcijańskiego zdolny jest każdy człowiek, gdyż ma w sercu dar miłości od Boga i uczy się kochać innych ludzi bezinteresownie i bezwarunkowo. Dlatego najbardziej wymownym obrazem przebaczenia jest miłość matki, ponieważ idzie za każdym dzieckiem, które po ludzku nie zasługuje na przebaczenie i miłość.
This article is attempt to explore, define and explain the relationship of forgiveness to justice in the perspective of the practice of Christian vocation. All manifestations of human injustice imply the need for forgiveness. Christian forgiveness is a call to concrete action, but it is also a permanent state of heart. In Christianity, forgiveness is inseparable from and complements justice, transforming both the forgiver and the person being forgiven. The test of the genuineness of Christian forgiveness is that it liberate a person from selfish self-love. Every person is capable of Christian forgiveness because they have the gift of love from God in their heart and learn to love other people selflessly and unconditionally. Therefore, the most eloquent image of forgiveness is a mother’s love, as she goes after every child who is humanly undeserving of forgiveness and love.

W artykule przedstawiam wychowawczy wymiar pracy na przykładzie twórczości trzech polskich filozofów chrześcijańskich – kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego, Karola Wojtyły (późniejszego papieża Jana Pawła II) i Józefa Tischnera. Każdy z nich uwypuklał rolę pracy, jako czynnika determinującego wychowanie, ale też każdy przedstawiał pracę i związany z nią system wychowania z innej perspektywy. Wszystkie te punkty widzenia ogniskowały się jednak na człowieku postrzeganym przez pryzmat Bożego stworzenia. Człowieka, dla którego praca stała w rzędzie cnót, podobnie jak lenistwo w rzędzie grzechów. W tekście udowadniam, że wychowawcza funkcja pracy, postrzegana w kontekście cnót, u kardynała Wyszyńskiego przedstawiana była w optyce miłości, u Jana Pawła II w przestrzeni wiary, zaś Józef Tischner głosił ją z przesłaniem nadziei.
In this article I present the educational dimension of work on the example of three Christian philosophers – Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, Karol Wojtyła (later Pope John Paul II) and Józef Tischner. Each of them emphasized the role of work as a factor determining upbringing, but also each of them presented work and the system of upbringing connected with it from a different perspective. All these points of view, however, focused on man perceived through the prism of God’s creation. Man, for whom work stood in the row of virtues, just as laziness stood in the row of sins. In the text I prove that the educational function of work, seen in the context of virtues, for Cardinal Wyszyński it was presented in the optic of love, for John Paul II in the space of faith, while Joseph Tischner preached it with a message of hope.

The first premise of J. L. Schellenberg’s Hiddenness Argument equates God’s love with a positive relationship to human beings. To illustrate this relationship, the human model of parental love is used, based on the standards of the modern American liberal world, not on the biblical standard. As a result, we attribute to God a narrowly understood horizontal relationship towards people, which is completely alien to the understanding of love developed in the Christian tradition. When we refer to the classical theism that recognized love as the central attribute of God, we will see that it should be understood in a vertical model, consisting in the offering of good and mercy. This understanding undermines the benevolent theism and replaces it with the merciful theism or theism of mercy. Ultimately, this makes the first premise of the Hiddenness Argument very questionable and the whole argument calls for a significant revision.
Pierwsza przesłanka J. L. Schellenberga argumentu z ukrytości zrównuje miłość Boga z pozytywnym stosunkiem do człowieka. Aby zilustrować tę relację, posłużono się ludzkim modelem miłości rodzicielskiej, opartym na standardach współczesnego amerykańskiego liberalnego świata, a nie na standardach biblijnych. W rezultacie przypisujemy Bogu wąsko rozumiany horyzontalny stosunek do ludzi, który jest zupełnie obcy pojmowaniu miłości wypracowanemu w tradycji chrześcijańskiej. Kiedy odwołamy się do klasycznego teizmu, który uznawał miłość za centralny przymiot Boga, zobaczymy, że należy ją rozumieć w modelu wertykalnym, polegającym na ofiarowaniu dobra i miłosierdzia (łaski). Takie rozumienie podważa teizm dobroczynności i zastępuje go teizmem miłosierdzia (łaski). Dzięki temu okazuje się, że pierwsza przesłanka argumentu z ukrytości jest bardzo wątpliwa, a cały argument wymaga znaczącej rewizji.

The analysis carried out in the article indicates the truths about the Church contained in Benedict XVI’s encyclicals, which at the same time constitute specific inspirations for the missionary work of the Church ad gentes. The Pope does not distinguish between generally separate „missionary situations” and speaks rather of a single, fundamental, inalienable mission that still stands before the Church. Sometimes, however, he evokes the activity of the Church in mission areas. He reminds and points out that the Church’s ever-present task, including the mission ad gentes, is to remind and proclaim to the contemporary world the truth about God who is love. Missionary activity is also supposed to restore hope to modern man that goes beyond the temporal order. Finally, the Church’s mission, especially in the framework of her mission ad gentes, is to care for the true progress and development of every person and of the whole human society in truth and love. The missionary activity of the community Christ’s disciples remains a special area of such presence and witness of the Church in a world which is constantly globalizing.

The aim of this paper was to analyze a motivating aspect of love in Buddhism. As the most comprehensive analysis of the Buddhist love in the Polish literature is the work of H.deLubac, hence the focus on his research, supplemented by observations of contemporary theologians. First shown understanding of the term „love” in Buddhism, referenced in order to analyze the three terms: majtri (kindness), dana (excellence based on the generosity and assistance), karuna (pity, compassion). Then the paper analyzed the relationship of Buddhist love to the love of Christianity and drew attention to the fact that Buddhism has been switched relationship between love and compassion (in Buddhism, compassion is born of love, in Christianity it is inversely). Buddhist charity does not have also a community dimension, so characteristic of Christianity. Results of this study was that supernatural love in Buddhism is present in the same extent that it is the divine revelation in the creatures and by creatures, and in the same way it lends credibility. Love in Buddhism does not have full incentive asset due to alack in her the aspect of the Trinity, the ecclesial and sacramental (they strictly specify the Christianity). As a result of this has been demonstrated that Christianity offers the deepest shot of motivating aspect. Love in Christianity is in fact linked to the full and most perfect revelation of Christ.

In the paper it is argued that the conceptual resources of Christianity topple the hiddenness argument. According to the author, the variability of the divine love cast doubt on the soundness of Schellenberg’s reasoning. If we understood a perfect love as a maximal and equal concern and identification with all and for all, then a divine love would entail divine impartiality, but because of conflicts of interest between human beings the perfect, divine love cannot be maximal.
W artykule argumentuje się, że konceptualne zasoby chrześcijaństwa obalają argument z ukryciu. Według autora zróżnicowanie Bożej miłości poddaje w wątpliwość słuszność rozumowania Schellenberga. Gdybyśmy rozumieli doskonałą miłość jako maksymalną i równą troskę oraz utożsamianie się ze wszystkimi i dla wszystkich, wtedy Boża miłość pociągałaby za sobą Bożą bezstronność, ale z powodu konfliktu interesów między ludźmi doskonała Boża miłość nie może być maksymalna.

In the article, the author discusses the “path of love” and “the path of the cave,” using selected works by Hans Christian Andersen. The Danish fairy tale writer masterfully shows how heroes anchored in a sensual world go a long way to find a world that escapes rational cognition. Most of his characters can easily be described as dynamic, because they change under the influence of powerful experiences. Those who attach more importance to beauty closed in a form devoid of deeper content are condemned. Andersen’s fairy tales have two audiences, children and adults. The former will understand the anecdote and the latter will see the metaphor. The works of the fairy tale writer show autobiographical threads, including his attitude to the Christian religion, in which the triad of truth, good, and beauty turns out to be extremely important.
W artykule autor omawia „drogę miłości” oraz „drogę jaskini”, posługując się wybranymi dziełami Hansa Christiana Andersena. Duński baśniopisarz w mistrzowski sposób ukazuje, jak bohaterowie zakotwiczeni w świecie zmysłowym przebywają długą drogę, by odnaleźć świat, który wymyka się racjonalnemu poznaniu. Większość jego bohaterów śmiało można określić mianem dynamicznych, ponieważ pod wpływem silnych doświadczeń się zmieniają. W sposób dosadny szydzi z tych, którzy większą wagę przywiązują do piękna zamkniętego w formie pozbawionej głębszej treści. Baśnie Andersena mają podwójnego adresata, są nim zarówno dzieci, jak i dorośli. Ci pierwsi zrozumieją anegdotę, natomiast ostatni – zauważą głębsze przesłanie. W dziełach baśniopisarza można dostrzec wątki autobiograficzne, m.in. jego stosunek do religii chrześcijańskiej, w której niezmiernie istotna okazuje się triada prawdy, dobra i piękna.

„Poza Wschodem i Zachodem” – jakiej „drabiny” użył John Wu do osiągnięcia tego celu? John Wu Jingxiong (1899-1986) był dyplomatą, uczonym i autorytetem w dziedzinie prawa międzynarodowego. Był także wybitnym chińskim katolikiem. Jego duchowa autobiografia Beyond East and West (1951) przypomina Wyznania św. Augustyna poprzez poruszający opis nawrócenia Johna Wu na katolicyzm w 1937 r. i jego wczesne lata jako katolika. Sam tytuł autobiografii Wu wskazuje na jego duchowy ideał, który pozwala ludziom wykraczać poza kulturowe osobliwości (czy to zachodnie, chińskie czy inne). John Wu znalazł mądrość w wielkich chińskich tradycjach, tj. w konfucjanizmie, daoizmie i buddyzmie, wskazując na ich uniwersalne prawdy, które ostatecznie pochodzą od Chrystusa i w nim się wypełniają. Autor tego artykułu szukał uniwersalnych cech Johna Wu, które wykraczają poza jakąkolwiek kulturę i które metaforycznie nazwał „drabiną”. Znalazł potrójną drabinę, tj. wiarę chrześcijańską, przyjaźń wraz ludzką i boską miłością i prawo naturalne.
John Wu Jingxiong (1899-1986) was a diplomat, scholar, and authority on international law. He was also a prominent Chinese Catholic convert. His spiritual autobiography Beyond East and West (1951) reminds us of the Confessiones of St. Augustine for its moving description of John Wu’s conversion to Catholicism in 1937 and his early years as a Catholic. The very title of Wu’s autobiography points to his spiritual ideal which let humanity go beyond cultural particularities (be they Western, Chinese or other). John Wu found wisdom in China’s great traditions, i.e. Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism, pointing to their universal truths that come ultimately from, and are fulfilled in, Christ. The author of this contribution has searched for John Wu’s universal traits which go beyond any culture and which he called, metaphorically, a “ladder”. He has found a threefold ladder, i.e. that of Christian faith, that of human friendship and human and divine love, and that of natural law.

Opis:
Renata Gadamska-Serafin’s book entitled Imago Dei. Człowiek w myśli i twórczości Cypriana Norwida [Imago Dei. The Man in Cyprian Kamil Norwid’s Thought and Works] is devoted to anthropological issues in the poet’s works. She focuses her studies on two anthropological issues: the essence of the man and the human condition; or in other words, the essence and the existence. These two issues are analyzed in the context of both the 19th century anthropological thought with all its base of theological and philosophical tradition, as well as of selected trends in modern anthropology. As a source context for Norwid’s reflections Biblical and patristic tradition, especially Paul’s theology, as well as Socratic philosophy and Thomism are referred to. The first chapters of the book are devoted to analysis and reconstruction of ontological aspects of Norwid’s anthropology. A lot of space is given to Norwid’s long and fervent polemic with Darwin’s evolutionism. The issue of Christian personalism in the poet’s works is especially meticulously presented. The second part of the deliberations on Norwid’s anthropology is devoted to the poet’s Christian existentialism recognized by the author. Quite a lot of space is taken up by three existential issues: suffering, sorrow and happiness. Another extensive part of the book, entitled Aetates hominum, is devoted to the periods in a human being’s life, from childhood to old age, in the poet’s works. And the final, short subsections deal with inter-human relations, such as love, friendship, politeness and dialogue. Looking for a formula that would describe Norwid’s whole thought about the man, in the conclusion the author reminds Hanna Malewska’s accurate definition: she called Norwid’s anthropology theocentric humanism.

Przeżywanie miłości jest najbardziej ludzkim i powszechnym doświadczeniem. Miłość jest rzeczywistością złożoną, wieloaspektową, psychiczną i duchową. To wartość uniwersalna i ponadczasowa. Związana jest z największą potrzebą ludzką bycia kochanym i pragnieniem miłowania. Dlatego też w integralnym rozwoju osoby jest ona najważniejszym czynnikiem, który kształtuje i scala jej osobowość. Istota miłości jest niezmienna, natomiast sposoby jej przeżywania i wyrażania są bardzo różne. Rozwój miłości małżeńskiej wymaga rozwoju więzi małżeńskiej. To dzięki niej możliwe jest integralne połączenie się dwóch osób w miłości. Więź małżeńska jest podstawowym elementem, który scala i wyraża wielopłaszczyznowy obszar małżeńskich relacji, interakcji i komunikacji.Obecnie, w dobie konsumpcjonizmu oraz rozpowszechniania się stylu życia w związkach partnerskich, można zauważyć, że miłość i więź małżeńska nie są wartościami, często wręcz mówi się o nich wstydliwie. W związku z tym, celem artykułu jest przedstawienie w ujęciu chrześcijańskim teoretycznych zagadnień odnoszących się do doświadczania miłości szczególnie w perspektywie więzi małżeńskiej. Uwzględniając złożoność tej problematyki, zostaną ukazane tylko wybrane jej aspekty. Omówione zostaną różnorodne konteksty miłości oraz doświadczanie i przeżywanie miłości małżeńskiej. Ukazana będzie istota i wartość więzi małżeńskiej, a także kwestia rozwijania zdolności do miłości w procesie wychowania człowieka.
Living love is the most human and universal experience. Love is a complex, multi‐faceted, psychological and spiritual reality. It is a universal and timeless value. It is associated with the greatest human need to be loved and the desire to love. Therefore, in the integral development of a person, love is the most important factor that shapes and integrates his/her personality. The essence of love is unchangeable, but the ways of experiencing and expressing it are very different. The development of conjugal love requires the growth of a marital bond. It is thanks to it that it is possible for two people to be united in love. A marital bond constitutes an essential element which integrates and shapes the multifaceted area of marital relationship, interaction and communication.Nowadays, in an era of consumerism and a lifestyle based more on civil partnerships, it can be seen that love and marriage are not treated as the values, they are often even spoken of with shame. Therefore, the aim of the article is to present theoretical issues related to the experience of love in a Christian perspective, especially from the perspective of a marital bond. Taking into account the complexity of this issue, only selected aspects will be shown. The various contexts of love and the experience of marital love will be discussed. The essence and value of the marital bond will be shown, as well as the aspect of developing the ability to love in the process of human education.

Troska o wychowanie młodego pokolenia jest zawsze sprawą kluczową. Aby człowiek mógł przetrwać w świecie, potrzebuje nieustannie się rozwijać. Chęć inwestowania w siebie jednocześnie pokrywa się z zaangażowaniem na polu edukacji i wychowania. Współpraca międzypokoleniowa wytwarza bowiem odpowiedni potencjał, który służy całemu społeczeństwu. Działalnością pedagogiczną na różnych szczeblach przestrzeni edukacyjnej zajmował się o. Leon Dehon. On to w wyniku okoliczności społecznych i kulturowych oraz za przyczyną zawierzenia Sercu Jezusa wynikającego z łaski wiary zorganizował w Saint-Quentin apostolat wychowawczy. Biorąc pod uwagę trudne czasy, w których żył, z odwagą podejmował inicjatywy, które miały szczególny wpływ na ukształtowanie się nowego porządku społecznego, kulturalnego i religijnego. Dzięki swojemu wykształceniu i dobrym relacjom interpersonalnym założył szkołę, w której kształciły się przyszłe elity społeczne Francji, oraz dał początek nowemu zgromadzeniu zakonnemu organizującemu głównie formację kapłańską. Celem tego artykułu jest przedstawienie modelu dehoniańskiej pedagogiki, która dała nowy impuls zarówno środowisku kościelnemu, jak i robotniczej społeczności francuskiej żyjącej w XIX wieku. Ze względu na owocność tego dzieła, które propagowało ideał miłości i sprawiedliwości społecznej, również dziś warto czerpać ze skarbca doświadczeń o. Leona Dehona. Próba odwołania się do jego myśli pozwala odnaleźć współczesne zapotrzebowanie na wychowanie i formację mające na celu prowadzenie człowieka ku świętości.
Care for the upbringing of youth has always been a key issue. For people to survive in the world, they need to constantly develop. The inclination to invest in oneself coincides at the same time with the commitment in the field of education and upbringing. The inter-generational co-operation creates an adequate potential, which serves the whole society. One of those who devoted themselves to pedagogical activity was Father Leon Dehon. He, due to social and cultural circumstances, as well as motivated to confide in the Heart of Jesus brought forth by his faith, organised an educational apostolate in Saint-Quentin. Considering the difficult times in which he lived, he undertook with courage initiatives that particularly influenced the shaping of new social, cultural and religious order. Thanks to his education and good interpersonal skills he established a school which trained France’s future social elites, as well as gave rise to a new religious congregation, organising mainly priestly formation. The aim of this article is to present a model of Dehonian education, which gave a new impulse to both the ecclesial environment and the working-class society of the 19th-century France. Due to the fruitfulness of his work, which promulgated an ideal of charity and social equality, today we also want to peruse the treasures of Father Dehon’s experiences. An attempt to invoke his thought allows us to rediscover the contemporary demand for education and formation aiming to guide humanity to holiness.
