Opis:
In the shatter regime of a Whipple shield, a large central fragment makes a significant contribution to the damage-causing capacity of the debris cloud. Herein we present a feasibleschemefor theidentification and measurement of this large central fragment and propose an alternative approach to the ballistic limit equation (BLE) for the Whipple shield, deducing an alternative ballistic limit in the shatter regime based on the large central fragment’s characteristics. This alternative BLE is compared with the phenomenological Whipple BLE, the JSC Whipple BLE and the Ryan curve. Our alternative BLE, modified at the incipient fragmentation and completed fragmentation point, is shown to agree well with experimental results.
W tzw. trybie „roztrzaskania” tarczy Whipple'a, duży centralny fragment obiektu zderzeniowego odpowiada za znaczną część ogólnej zdolności chmury odłamków do powodowania zniszczeń. W niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono realny schemat identyfikacji i pomiaru tego dużego centralnego fragmentu i na tej podstawie zaproponowano alternatywne podejście do balistycznego równania granicznego (BLE) dla tarczy Whipple'a. Wyznaczono alternatywną graniczną wartość balistyczną w reżimie roztrzaskania na podstawie charakterystyki centralnego fragmentu.Takie alternatywne podejście jest porównane z fenomenologicznym równaniem dla tarczy Whipple'a, z równaniem JSC Whipple oraz i z tzw. krzywą Ryana. Proponowane alternatywne równanie BLE, zmodyfikowane w punkcie początkowej i końcowej fragmentacji, wykazuje dobry poziom spójności z wynikami eksperymentalnymi.

Opis:
Through silicon via (TSV) has become one of the key emerging trends of three-dimensional (3D) packages, as it can realize vertically interconnect between stacked-dies. Due to large mismatch in thermal expansion coefficients (CTE) between the copper via and the silicon, significant mechanical stresses are induced at the interfaces when TSV structure is subjected to thermal stresses, which would greatly affect the reliability and electrical performance of TSV 3D device. In this paper, the relationship between the state of stresses and failure of TSV had been explored by combining finite element model simulation (FEM) and failure physical analysis. The position of the maximum stress of the TSV structure was obtained by FEM analysis. The relationship of stress and displacement change with temperature was also studied. And a thermal cycling experiment was conducted to validate the simulation results. Physical failure analysis after thermal cycling experiment was used to verify the degradation mechanism predicted by thermo-mechanical simulation.

Opis:
Red mud is a kind of solid waste produced during alumina extraction from bauxite. To extraction valuable iron from red mud, the technology of adding sodium sulfate-segregation roasting-magnetic separation to treat red mud was developed. During the paper, the effects of various process parameters on the extraction of iron by segregation roasting-magnetic separation were studied, and the phase transformation behavior and microstructure of iron are explored. Repeated test results showed that magnetic concentrate (mass percent), TFe of 80.29 % and overall iron recovery of 92.08 %was obtained. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated that after the segregation roasting, the hematite was transformed into a new metal phase consisting mainly of metallic iron and magnetite. The addition of sodium sulfate during the segregation roasting can obviously improve the efficiency of segregation roasting-magnetic separation for iron extraction.

Caspase-8 is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family which plays a central role in apoptosis and development. We screened caspase-8 interacting proteins from mouse T-cell lymphoma and 7.5-day embryo cDNA libraries by yeast two-hybrid system and obtained eleven positive clones, including Vacuolar protein sorting 41 (Vps41), a protein involved in trafficking of proteins from the late Golgi to the vacuole. The interaction of Vps41 with caspase-8 was confirmed by co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP) and co-localization studies in HEK293T cells. Co-IP experiments also showed that Vps41 binds to the p18 subunit of caspase-8 through its WD40 region and RING-finger motif. Furthermore, we found that overexpression of Vps41 promotes Fas-induced apoptosis in A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cells. The cleavage of caspase-3, a caspase-8 downstream effector, was increased when cells were transfected with Vps41-overexpressing plasmid. Together, these results suggest a novel interaction of caspase-8 with Vps41 and provide a potential role of Vps41 beyond lysosomal trafficking.

In this paper, sodium oleate, polyacrylamide, soluble starch and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose were used as flocculants to study the flocculation and sedimentation behavior of microfine ilmenite. Sedimentation test shows that sodium oleate and polyacrylamide have good flocculation effect on ultrafine ilmenite. The flocculation rate of ilmenite can be further improved by the combination of sodium oleate and polyacrylamide. It was found that both flocculants could generate chemical adsorption with ilmenite surface, and they all react with $Fe^{3+}$ on ilmenite surface. However, sodium oleate reacts with $Fe^{3+}$ to form a water-insoluble iron oleate precipitate which coats the surface of the ilmenite and hinders the action of polyacrylamide and the remaining $Fe^{3+}$. This problem can be avoided by adding polyacrylamide followed by sodium oleate, and the flotation recovery can be increased significantly.

The optical band positions and the spin-Hamiltonian parameters (g factors g_{∥}, g_{⊥}, and zero-field splitting parameter D) of alum α-RbAl(SO₄)₂·12H₂O:Cr³⁺ are calculated by diagonalizing the 120× 120 complete energy matrix based on the two-spin-orbit-coupling-parameter model. The model takes into account not only the contributions due to the spin-orbit-coupling parameter of central d^{n} ion in the conventional crystal field theory, but also those due to ligands via covalence effect. The calculation indicates that the fourteen observed spectral data (eleven optical band positions and three spin-Hamiltonian parameters) can be reasonably and uniformly explained with four adjustable parameters (the Racah parameters B, C, intrinsic parameter A̅₄(R) in the superposition model, and the trigonal distortion angle β). The calculations also suggest that contrary to the previous findings, the trigonal distortion of Cr³⁺ (entering the Al³⁺ site in the host crystal) center in α-RbAl(SO₄)₂·12H₂O is induced mainly by the oxygen (or water) octahedron around the Cr³⁺ ion rather than the more distant neighbors.
