Opis:
Diafenthiuron, an insecticide widely used in the management of pests of cardamom and cotton, was assessed for its toxicityeffect on beneficials commonly found in these ecosystems. Diafenthiuron was found to be toxic to honey bees, the prime pollinators of crop plants. Diafenthiuron at the highest tested dose caused 40% mortality to the coccinelid grubs at 48 h after treatment so, diafenthiuron was found to be slightly harmful. Monocrotophos, on the other hand has been found to be a highly toxic pesticide. Diafenthiuron is moderately harmful to the adults of Chelonus blackburni L. The testing was done using the insecticide diafenthiuron. An insecticidecoated vial (scintillation) bioassay was performed. It was found that there was 86.67% mortality in 48 h, at the recommended dose. Diafenthiuron is highly toxic to the silkworm, killing more than 80% of the caterpillars in 24 h, at all the doses tested. Diafenthiuron, even in the highest dose tested, is non-toxic to the earthworm, Perionyx excavatus, which was found to have a 3.33% mortality. As far as fish are concerned, the common carp, Cyprinus carpio L., is found to be highly susceptible to diafenthiuron and even doses 10 times lower than the field dose can kill the fish within 6 h.

Opis:
The present study was conducted to evaluate the antibacterial activity of different organic solvent increasing polarity viz., hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone and methanol extracts of Ulva fasciata (Chlorophyceae) were collected from Kanniyakummari, Gulf of Mannar biosphere Reserve, Tamilnadu, India. Marine green algae extracts of U. fasciata against multi-drug resistant standard and clinical bacterial strains viz., Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella flexneri, Proteus mirabilis and P. vulgaris. The ethyl acetate extracts of U. fasciata showed highest antibacterial activity against all the bacterial strains tested. The mean zone of inhibition produced by the extracts in disc diffusion assays were ranged from 7.1 mm to 15.0 mm. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) were between 125 μg/ml and 500 μg/ml, while the Minimum Bactericidal Concentrations (MBC) were between 250 μg/ml and 1000 μg/ml. The highest mean of zone inhibition (15.0 mm) and lowest MIC (125 μg/ml) and MBC (250 μg/ml) values were observed in ethyl acetate extract of U. fasciata against B. subtilis. The ethyl acetate extract of the U. fasciata showed the presence of phytochemicals, terpenoids, tannins and phenolic compounds in U. fasciata than the other solvents extracts. The present results of the ethyl acetate extract of U. fasciata can be used as an antibacterial substance for the treatment of multi drug resistant bacterial infections.

Opis:
This article deals with a Markovian queuing-inventory system (MQIS) under the stochastic modeling technique. The arrival stream of this system is dependent on the present stock level at an instant. Meanwhile, the system focuses on reducing the waiting time of a unit by assuming a queue-dependent service policy (QDSP). The system consists of an infinite waiting hall to receive an arriving unit. The MQIS assumes that no unit of arrival is allowed when the stock level of the system is empty. The discussion of this MQIS runs over the two types of ordering principles named 1) (s, Q) 2) (s, S). According to both ordering principles, the assumed arrival and service patterns have been considered separately and classified as Model-I (M-I) and Model-II (M-II) respectively. The steady state of the system for both M-I and M-II is analysed and resolved under the Neuts matrix-geometric technique. The system performance measures of the system are also computed. The expected cost function of both M-I and M-II are constructed as well. Further, the necessary numerical illustrations are provided and distinguished for M-I and M-II to explore the proposed model. This paper finds the optimum ordering policy to execute the stock-dependent arrival and queue-dependent service strategies.

Opis:
In this work, the pilling behaviour of polyester blended fabrics was studied and analysed statistically. Two different groups of blends were selected, namely polyester/cotton (P/C) and polyester/viscose blends (P/V). All the fabrics were assessed for pilling performance using ICI pill box, and two-way ANOVA was conducted to analyse the effect of the number of revolutions and type of fibres on the pilling behaviour of the fabrics. The analysis was further narrowed down by conducting a series of ANOVA, by segregating the number of revolutions into two stages and blend proportions into three stages for group I fabrics. Similarly for group II fabrics, both the, number of revolutions and blend proportions were segregated into two stages each. It was found that the type of component fibre used to produce the fabric loses its significance as the number of revolutions increases.
W pracy zbadano statystycznie przebieg pilingu tkanin mieszanych. Wybrano dwie różne grupy mieszanek, a mianowicie: poliester/bawełna (P/C) i poliester/wiskoza (P/V).
