Opis:
Although Sri Lanka was a site of colonization of the Portuguese, Dutch and (under the treaty of Amiens in 1802) British, it was the English language that had the strongest infl uence on the indigenous population of the island as the earlier colonizers were less interested in disseminating their culture. Taking into consideration the fact that English was established in Sri Lanka by missionaries and British officers, it can be assumed that the language brought to the island of Ceylon was the Standard English of the turn of the 19th century. Exploiting data from International Corpus of English – Sri Lanka and articles on Sri Lankan English, the present study contains a comparison of contemporary Sri Lankan English and the English of the period when the language was brought to the Island (early 19th century). Thus, an effort is made to show the conservative features of the language of the first British settlers, which survive in English spoken in contemporary Sri Lanka.

Opis:
The paper aims to present the structure of weather types at two meteorological stations Galle and Nuwara Eliya (Sri Lanka). The weather type is determined as a generalized characteristic of the weather by features and gradation of selected meteorological elements. All available data on daily average, maximum and minimum air temperature, the average daily total cloud amount and the daily precipitation amount come from OGIMET database and have been used to designate weather types. The analysis was performed for the period April 2002 - March 2012. The weather types were designated based on the modified A. Woś (2010) classification of weather types. The frequency of groups, subgroups, classes, and types of weather were determined. Additionally, determined frequency of sequences of days with the same weather type. The analysis allows to conclude, that the structure of weather types at both stations was poorly differentiated. There were very stable weather conditions. In Galle, the most frequent was very warm, partly cloudy weather, without precipitation (920) and in Nuwara Eliya warm, partly cloudy weather without precipitation (820).

Opis:
This research is a case study based on Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC, Biyagama, which is a famous beer company and the market leader in Sri Lanka. Researcher identifies that, currently Company outbound logistics is consisted with a decentralized distribution and a redistribution process for bottles and cans in Colombo region, and an extra cost is being spent for that unnecessarily. The main objective of this research is to build a cost minimized model for distributing Bottles and Cans for the region. For that, all demand regions in Colombo region was divided in to main 6 sub clusters. Then a centralized Warehouse and an optimal path which joins each sub cluster has been determined. The gravity model (By using excel solver) was used to find a centralized warehouse that can easily be connected with each sub cluster. The optimal path was determined through Hamiltanian cycle by using the lingo software. Finally, the milk run was completed with determining a cost optimized truck allocation system through linear programming model. At the end result proved that, the proposed model saves the monthly cost of bottles distribution by 17.2% and monthly cost of cans distribution by 11.6%.
