Opis:
The present article is a result of a research on the poetics of Boris Poplavsky and the observation accomplished in the subsequent poetic work of Boris Poplavsky.of the development of his poetics in time. The subjects of this research were two volumes of verse: From a Garland of Wax, containing the earliest poems of the poet written in the years 1922-1930 and Flags containing poems written in the years 1923-1930. During the research on both volumes of verse a quantitative-qualitative method of analysis was used, thanks to which we defined the parameters of Boris Poplavsky’s poetics „in its pure form”, i.e. without taking into account his biography. Furthermore, we showed similarities between both texts and marked out the way of the evolution accomplished in the subsequent poetic work of Boris Poplavsky.

Opis:
The presented interpretation of the poetry collection V venke iz voska (In the Wax Wreath) by Boris Poplavsky, based on a known George Kingsley Zipf’s law, is an example approach to a literary text from the point of view of words statistics, which reflects Poplavsky’s semantic and stylistic preferences. Thanks to the applied method, the following thesis concerning the poet’s idiolect were formulated: 1) Boris Poplavsky’s poetic world is of a definitely substantive structure; 2) the most important role in the specification of the presented world is played by senses - visual impressions and colours; 3) the lyrical subject acts mainly as a reporter of current events; 4) the used adverbs reveal the poet’s inclination to “stretching” time and space; 5) high frequency of the “I” pronoun testifies significant egocentrism of Poplavsky’s. *

Opis:
The foregoing article constitutes an attempt at analyzing the principal idea of Boris Poplavskij’s artistic output, i.e. the so-called “romance with God”. The subject of our scientific investigations is mainly the contents of that talented poet’sdiaries, as well as of his critical articles and letters, on the basis of which we tried to outline the spiritual silhouette of the author of Флаги (Flags), showing his attitude to God and religion. Analysis of the listed sources revealed the poet’s internal – spiritual and existential drama, mainly resulting from his religious syncretism (the Orthodox faith, esotericism, mysticism). It was established that the writer, after his Gnostic mentors, rejects the principle of the good God, who, in his consciousness undergoes a sort of involution – transferring from the object of desire into a bad demiurge, responsible for the evil and its spreading around the world.

Christ’s mission
surrealistic miniature
Opis:
The author analyzes the surrealistic miniature At great depth... by Boris Poplavsky and believes that the poem may be understood as the shortest history of Christ’s mission. This hypo- thesis is supported both by the form and the content of the work. Potentially religious meanings are hidden behind symbolic objects and actions. Sleep, for instance, takes the place of Advent, on the one hand, and, on the other, symbolizes mental doze of the Jews who were completely unprepared for the lessons Jesus taught. The author believes that Poplavsky’s text allows to state that neither the Israelites then nor the Christians now use the unique chance given to the humanity by the new commandment of Christ, the commandment to love one’s neighbor. That fact arouses poet’s pity. That state crowns the analyzed miniature and implies the evaluation of Jesus’ earthly mission.

Opis:
Vladimir Nabokov’s unfavourable review of Boris Poplavsky’s volume of poetry Flags becomes a starting point of presenting different ways of perceiving the world by the two artists. Their poetry reflects the vision of the world of each author. The article not only explains reasons of differences in percepting the world, which result from the authors’ youthful experiences and vicissitudes, but also states why Vladimir Nabokov, after 20 years, changed his opinion about artistic works of Boris Poplavsky.
