Opis:
The problem of estimation of finite population mean on the current occasion based on the samples selected over two occasions has been considered. In this paper, first a chain ratio-to-regression estimator was proposed to estimate the population mean on the current occasion in two-occasion successive (rotation) sampling using only the matched part and one auxiliary variable, which is available in both the occasions. The bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator is obtained. We proposed another estimator, which is a linear combination of the means of the matched and unmatched portion of the sample on the second occasion. The bias and mean square error of this combined estimator is also obtained. The optimum mean square error of this combined estimator was compared with (i) the optimum mean square error of the estimator proposed by Singh (2005) (ii) mean per unit estimator and (iii) combined estimator suggested by Cochran (1977) when no auxiliary information is used on any occasion. Comparisons are made both analytically as well as empirically by using real life data.

Opis:
The present paper deals with a class of modified ratio estimators for estimation of population mean of the study variable when the population deciles of the auxiliary variable are known. The biases and the mean squared errors of the proposed estimators are derived and compared with that of existing modified ratio estimators for certain known populations. Further, we have also derived the conditions for which the proposed estimators perform better than the existing modified ratio estimators. From the numerical study it is also observed that the proposed modified ratio estimators perform better than the existing modified ratio estimators.

Opis:
Estimation of the population average in a finite population by means of sampling strategies dependent on an auxiliary variable highly correlated with a variable under study is considered. The sample is drawn with replacement on the basis of the probability distribution of an order statistic of the auxiliary variable. Observations of the variable under study are the values of the concomitant of the order statistic. The mean of the concomitant values is the estimator of a population mean of the variable under study. The expected value and the variance of the estimator are derived. The limit distributions of the considered estimators were considered. Finally, on the basis of simulation analysis, the accuracy of the estimator is considered.

Estimation of the population average in a finite population by means of sampling strategies dependent on sample quantiles of an auxiliary variable are considered. The sampling design proportional to an order statistic of an auxiliary variable was defined by Wywiał (2007, 2008). It was generalized into case of the sampling design proportional to the difference of two order statistics by Wywiał (2009), too. In this paper those results are generalized on the case of a conditional sampling design. Several strategies including the Horvitz-Thompson statistic and regression estimators are considered. Their accuracy is analyzed on the basis of computer simulation experiments.

Continuous distribution of variables under study and auxiliary variables are considered. The purpose of the paper is to estimate the mean of the variable under study using a sampling design which is dependent on the observation of a continuous auxiliary variable in the whole population. Auxiliary variable values observed in this population allow to estimate the inclusion density function of the sampling design. The variance of the continuous version of the Horvitz-Thompson estimator under the proposed sampling design is compared with the variance of the mean of a simple random sample. The accuracy of the estimation strategies is analysed by means of simulation experiments.

In surveying finite populations, the simplest strategy to estimate a population total without bias is to employ Simple Random Sampling (SRS) with replacement (SRSWR) and the expansion estimator based on it. Anything other than that including SRS Without Replacement (SRSWOR) and usage of the expansion estimator is a complex strategy. We examine here (1) if from a complex sample at hand a gain in efficiency may be unbiasedly estimated comparing the ”rival population total-estimators” for the competing strategies and (2) how suitable model-expected variances of rival estimators compete in magnitude as examined numerically through simulations.

Opis:
Synthetic estimators are known to produce estimates of population mean in areas where no sampled data are available, but such estimates are usually highly biased with invalid confidence statements. This paper presents a calibrated synthetic estimator of the population mean which addresses these problematic issues. Two known special cases of this estimator were obtained in the form of combined ratio and combined regression synthetic estimators, using selected tuning parameters under stratified sampling. In result, their biases and variance estimators were derived. The empirical demonstration of the usage involving the proposed calibrated estimators shows that they provide better estimates of the population mean than the existing estimators discussed in this study. In particular, the estimators were examined through simulation under three distributional assumptions, namely the normal, gamma and exponential distributions. The results show that they provide estimates of the mean displaying less relative bias and greater efficiency. Moreover, they prove more consistent than the existing classical synthetic estimator. The further evaluation carried out using the coefficient of variation provides additional confirmation of the calibrated estimator's advantage over the existing ones in relation to small area estimation.

This paper deals some linear regression type ratio exponential estimators for estimating the population mean using the known values of quartile deviation and deciles of an auxiliary variable in survey sampling. The expressions of the bias and the mean square error of the suggested estimators have been derived. It was compared with the usual mean, usual ratio (Cochran (1977)), Kadilar and Cingi (2004, 2006) and Subzar et al. (2017) estimators. After comparison, the condition which makes the suggested estimators more efficient than others is found. To verify the theoretical results, numerical results are performed on two natural population data sets.

A class of linear regression models has been proposed for the estimation of population mean and total when information regarding auxiliary variate is available in survey sampling using regression method of estimation by introducing a new auxiliary variable z, which may also be a function of the auxiliary variable x. The proposed model leads to reduction in mean squared error as compared to ordinary regression method of estimation. The improvement has been demonstrated over ordinary regression estimator and also on ratio estimator with the help of an empirical example.

Ranked set sampling (RSS) was first suggested by McIntyre (1952) to increase the efficiency of estimate of the population mean. It has been shown that this method is highly beneficial to the estimation based on simple random sampling (SRS). There has been considerable development and many modifications were done on this method. This paper presents a modified ratio estimator using prior value of coefficient of kurtosis of an auxiliary variable x, with the intention to improve the efficiency of ratio estimator in ranked set sampling. The first order approximation to the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the proposed estimator are obtained. A generalized version of the suggested estimator by applying the Power transformation is also presented.

In this paper, we have described the development of an effective two-phase stratified random sampling estimation procedure in a scrambled response situation. Two different exponential, regression-type estimators were formed separately for different structures of two-phase stratified sampling schemes. We have studied the properties of the suggested strategy. The performance of the proposed strategy has been demonstrated through numerical evidence based on a data set of a natural population and a population generated through simulation studies. Taking into consideration the encouraging findings, suitable recommendations for survey statisticians are prepared for the application of the proposed strategy in real-life conditions.

Survey sampling conditional methods are usually connected with poststratification estimators for domains and with inference on the basis of regression models or contingency tables. These problems were considered e.g. by Rao (1985), Tillé (1998), Williams (1962). The problem of stratification of a population on the basis of observations on the variable under study in a sample was considered by e.g. Dalenius (1957). We deal with the problem of appropriate division of a simple sample into sub-samples of equal sizes. This partition of the sample leads to clustering a population into sub-populations. Each of these sub-populations includes one and only one previously created sub-sample. The linear combinations of statistics from the sub-samples are used for estimation of a population mean. The coefficients of this linear combination are proportionate to the sizes of the sub-populations. This statistic is the unbiased estimator of the population mean. The variance of the estimator has been derived. The example of determining of the estimator parameters is presented. Moreover, some generalisations of proposed estimators are suggested.
Udziały tych liczebności stanowią współczynniki kombinacji liniowej, m.in. średnich z podprób. Taki warunkowy estymator daje nieobciążone (warunkowo i bezwarunkowo) oceny wartości średniej w populacji. Pokazano przykład oceny wartości średniej w populacji z wyznaczeniem wartości wariancji warunkowych i bezwarunkowych estymatora.
