This article analyses the stories of Andrey Fiedarenko and Michas Androsiuk, in which the problems of alienation, isolation and loneliness of representatives of a large part of Belarusian society were raised. They resulted from the migration of country dwellers to the city and their failure to adapt to new living conditions and civilization requirements. The writers show the reality of the world through the inner experiences of an ordinary man and constant forced choices, which only deepen the isolation of people from social life, increasing marginalization, loneliness in the crowd, the environment, the surrounding and even in the family. In the story The Chain (1994), A. Fiedarenko shows the illusory creation of life’s priorities of his heroes. The colourful and complex family relations, differences in the characters of the heroes of the story The White Horse (2006) became the basis for M. Androsiuk’s reflective and lyrical discussions on the passing world of the old social system. Both writers, through their heroes, confirm the reader in the belief that the problem of alienating man in rapidly developing societies is becoming a dramatically increasing issue and brings dramatic or even tragic solutions – escaping into illness, into the world of dreams / illusion / fantasy and finally into suicide.

Własna biografia jest podstawowym źródłem tematów utworów Bazylego Pietruczuka. W artykule dokonano analizy jego autobiograficznej książki „Okruchy”. Pisarz powraca w niej do wspomnień dzieciństwa, pełnego bólu, krzywd i niesprawiedliwości. Andrey Fiedarenka (born in 1959) – author of the books: History of the disease (1989), Misery (1994), Afghan casket (2002), No one’s (2009), The Chain (2012), Silence (2014) and others, winner of many awards, including Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award. The writer is considered a classic of Belarusian literature. In his artistic work, three basic types of heroes can be distinguished: inhabitants of villages, city dwellers and writers. The presentation of often difficult family relations, differences in characters and life priorities of the heroes become for A. Fiedarenka a pretext for deliberations on the subject of contemporary man’s life, his attitude towards people and nature. In his stories, the writer presents primarily people disappointed with life, lonely, seeking the sense of existence in contact with nature. Only hero-writers can be distinguished from the gallery of poor wretches.

This article focuses on the relationship between Yanka Bryl and Poland, showing the influence of Polish classics on his literary legacy. Stories such as Orphan’s Bread by Yanka Bryl, Orphan’s Plight by Bolesław Prus and the novel Sisyphean Labours by Stefan Żeromski were subjected to comparative analysis. Prus concentrated on the fate of the orphan and his unequal struggle for a better tomorrow. Żeromski showed the image of the school in the Russian Congress Kingdom of Poland and the struggle of young people against Russification. J. Bryl, in his story, raised the topics of the orphanage and the struggle for linguistic, cultural and national identity.

Opis:
The article analyses Zamyatin’s novel We (1921) and Hihiewicz’s story Martian Journey (1990). Zamyatin is considered to be the father of the anti-utopian genre, and We became a source of inspiration for many writers, including George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. Hihiewicz, in his works, repeatedly portrayed the society of the future, completely subordinated to the system of state power. Similar issues and kinds of narration are the main features that link both analysed works. However, the transformation of Zamyatin’s protagonist is only temporary, as a consequence of which he returns to the initial situation, to the life absolutely subordinated to the state power. On the other hand, Hihiewicz’s protagonists solve existential problems by choosing between life in captivity and death.
